FROM THE
President
Terry Officer
WELCOME TO LIBERTYFEST 2022 EDMOND, OKLAHOMA’S FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATION. It is with a great sense of pride and humility that I welcome all to join me in celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of “Edmond Fourth of July Festivals” known today as “LibertyFest”. In 1972 a handful of Edmond leaders came together with an idea to recognize the Fourth of July and include the citizens of Edmond. A small parade, a rodeo and a downtown dance were the first events for the celebration in 1972. I am proud to be a small part of the many volunteers that assemble each year to continue the traditions started by so few 50 years ago. Attend and enjoy. We are more than ready for healthy, fun and safe LibertyFest for 2022. It is my pleasure to thank the hundreds of volunteers that make LibertyFest a successful Fourth of July celebration. I must express gratitude to all our generous and loyal sponsors. THANK YOU, we could not continue without you. I would be remiss not to extend our gratitude to all who attend our events. While I have the opportunity, as KiteFest chairman, I want to personally invite one and all to join me outdoors and “go fly a kite.” I want to conclude with an invitation to you, your family and friends to join our Semi-Centennial celebration and experience family fun, freedom and patriotism during LibertyFest 2022.
P.S. Go fly a kite!

FROM THE
50TH ANNIVERSARY OF LIBERTYFEST
Ray Hibbard
Our Edmond community is thrilled to host the biggest and best 4th of July festival here in Edmond, Oklahoma. It is the 50th Anniversary of LibertyFest. It is an honor that Edmond Life & Leisure has once again been selected to produce this official program for LibertyFest. We look forward to seeing you at all the magnificent events for this fantastic 50th year of celebration. We also owe a giant thank you to Citizen’s Bank of Edmond for being the Premiere sponsor for this big event. "LibertyFest is truly one of the best line-up of celebrations in Oklahoma. For 50 years it has encouraged participation of everyone in our community - from businesses to residents. It shines a light on why Edmond is such a wonderful place to live. Citizens Bank of Edmond is proud to be a headlining sponsor of LibertyFest and we look forward to seeing our friends and neighbors at the events throughout our community, celebrating our great nation,” said Citizens Bank of Edmond CEO, Jill Castilla. Edmond’s July 4th Festival is a non-profit 501(c)3 operation made up of individual volunteers from the Edmond area. Its purpose is to produce a series of family-oriented events around the 4th of July to celebrate the birthday of this great nation and the heritage of Oklahoma. As the host city of LibertyFest, Edmond highlights a series of events that help enhance the quality of life in Edmond, show pride in the community, support for non-profit and civic organizations, and provide educational opportunities. The big heroes for LibertyFest are all the volunteers. They contribute hundreds of hours to making this week long celebration easy for Edmond to enjoy. The work and planning for LibertyFest events goes on year-round. Volunteers take time away from their families and other responsibilities to make sure we all have a pleasant and safe experience at these events. They are all folks who love their community and our country. It is truly a labor of love for our LibertyFest volunteers. We wish you and your family a safe and happy Fourth of July and hope you will join us in our Edmond LibertyFest Celebration. It is certainly a fitting tribute to our fine nation. It is one of the best celebrations in our great United States. Our family looks forward to seeing you along the parade route and at all the other events.

Candy drops from a large kite will occur several times Saturday for the kids. Several Master Class kiters will demonstrate new kites and flying techniques. Some traction kiters will pull their buggies with kites. Everyone is welcome to bring their own kite. Small sled kites will be given to every child so each child can fly a kite. Other kites of various sizes, colors, etc. will be sold by our vendor,” Wings of the Wind Kites and Toys.” Some of the largest kites made will be at KiteFest. All are invited to come and fly a kite or just watch. Homemade kites are welcome. We will ask for donations to support KiteFest and the kite giveaway. Patti NeuholdRavikumar
WELCOME TO LIBERTYFEST! Welcome to Liberty Fest! Cities across our nation are celebrating another year of freedom and democracy envisioned more than two hundred years ago by our country’s founding fathers and held precious still today. As the state’s first higher education institution, we live and work in the glory of those early ideals and educate our citizens to understand the value of the democratic process that nurtures them. We are committed to contributing to our country’s future by helping our students become engaged citizens who think critically and understand the power their voices can have in shaping our destiny. As an integral part of the Edmond community, the University of Central Oklahoma has been a proud contributor to the citizenry of this great state for 132 years and we look forward to the next century together. The parade will wind its way through our city today, launching from our campus heralding the exciting activities of the day. Through the sounds of the patriotic anthems played by the musicians in the concert on the campus lawn and the delight of the brightly colored fireworks bursting in the air above, we wish you a safe and happy Independence Day with your friends and family. May you be filled with pride of this great country and all for which it stands.

The Express Clydesdales 2nd appearance in the LibertyFest parade. They serve as the Goodwill Ambassadors for Express Employment Professionals. A staffing company built upon faith and helping people succeed, Express utilizes these gentle giants not just as goodwill ambassadors but as a neighborhood marketing tool traveling across North America helping raise funds for Children’s Miracle Network and other charitable organizations. These rare black and white Clydesdales weigh in at 2,000 pounds each. They stand between 18 and 19 hands high. The Express Clydesdales eat about 12 pounds of grain and 15 pounds of hay each day. Each horse is wearing a handcrafted set of English Leather Show harness. The harness weighs around 180 pounds per horse and costs an average of $10,000 per horse. The Show Wagon: The wagon is a replica of a turn-of-the-century Studebakerdelivery wagon. Such wagons were used to deliver freight to and from the cities. The wagon is equipped with a fifth-wheel design, which allows the wagon to make very sharp turns. The wagon also features roller bearing wheels, brakes, and lights, and weighs over 3,000 pounds! The Stagecoach: The stagecoach is a beautiful, handcrafted
replica of an 1880 Abbott Downing Hotel Coach. Commissioned by Express the coach is capable of seating 24 people, weighs over 4,000 pounds and is 12 feet high. The gold leaf trim and hand painted mural makes this truly a work of art. With the eight-horse hitch the length of the unit is about 54 feet They were crowned the 2015 World Champion Eight-Horse hitch in London, Ontario at the World Clydesdale Show. In addition, they won Best in Show, Supreme Champion Clydesdale at the World Champion competition at the Calgary Stampede. This team of Clydesdales has made appearances all over the United States and Canadaincluding such notable events as the Calgary Stampede, The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, The Tournament of Roses Parade and numerous other events across the nation. The Express Clydesdale Barn is located just north of Interstate 40 in Yukon, Oklahoma. The Express Clydesdales are housed in a specially reconstructed barn originally built in 1936. A group of Amish barn specialists came from Indiana to rebuild the barn's structure. Now the barn is a welcome center for visitors from around the world, featured with pine wood and walnut trim and brass fixtures throughout. Please visit their website www. expressclydesdales.com for more information.
We have some exciting new entries in the 50th Annual LibertyFest Parade this year including the Bag Pipe Band.Nearly half a century ago, there were no bagpipe bands in Oklahoma. The nearest was in Chicago and most US bands were on the coasts. Colonel Cliff MacLean Hansen founded our band in 1957 to bring this inspiring music to the people of Oklahoma. Col. Hansen, the dean of Oklahoma pipers, continued to play regularly with The Highlanders until his death in 2006. Since its initial public appearance in 1958, the band has performed for a diverse company of groups and individuals including government officials, foreign dignitaries, local churches, universities, and schools. We
strive to continue Col. Hansen's mission to provide the people of Oklahoma with quality and inspirational bagpipe music!

Fireworks Safety
« Only use fireworks if they are legal in your area. Shooting fireworks illegally will likely result in fireworks confiscation by authorities (a waste of your money), fines or even jail time. « Follow the instructions for fireworks usage on the packaging. Use them only as intended. Do not try to combine fireworks to get a bigger bang or light display. « Sparklers can be beautiful but also dangerous. Do not let children under the age of 12 handle sparklers. « Fireworks should be operated solely by an adult. This adult should wear safety glasses. Spectators should keep a safe distance.
« Never throw or point fireworks at someone, even in jest.
« Fireworks are for outdoor use only. Do not light them indoors and then carry them outside. « Keep water in a bucket and a hose nearby for safety reasons. « Don't hold fireworks in your hand or have any part of your body over them while lighting.

Letter
FROM THE
Mayor
Darrell A. Davis
WELCOME TO EDMOND LIBERTYFEST It's my honor to welcome you to the 2022 LibertyFest celebration. For 50 years now, LibertyFest has been Edmond's joyous appreciation of our nation's freedom and independence. Once again, LibertyFest will offer Edmond and our region a week of events with something for everyone of every age to enjoy. Many great family activities, including an exciting rodeo and a variety of outdoor activities, will culminate with our nationally recognized parade and spectacular fireworks display on July 4. For all the fun, it also is a chance for us to pause and reflect on those before us who made all the freedoms we enjoy possible, and look to not just where we have come from as a nation, but also where we are going. Still, an event like this doesn't happen without the dedicated work of so many in our community, hundreds of committed volunteers who work year-round to plan and coordinate so many moving parts in the background. Their hard work is testimony to our community's spirit and its pride in freedom and opportunity we are blessed to enjoy as Americans. So, along with a welcome, I also offer words of thanks to all those who make this event possible. Your commitment is a reflection of our community, and it's a vision we all can take pride in. I hope you will join us for LibertyFest 2022 and enjoy all our celebration has to offer, and cherish this time of fellowship with your family, friends and neighbors. Happy Birthday America!
