THE GAME

CALL OF DUTY: GHOSTS CALL OF DUTY is one of the biggest gaming franchises on the planet and for the last half decade every new title has blown the competition out of the water in sales. As a consequence publisher Activision has ensured that each new Call of Duty doesn’t stray too far from the series’ core run and gun gameplay. Because of this, in recent years Call of Duty games have at times come close to seeming a little stagnant. Aware of this, Activision teamed up with developer Infinity Ward for its latest Call of Duty: Ghosts title to add a host of new features that build on the series’ core strengths. However, even with these additions, many of Call of Duty’s core mechanics remain the same, meaning that, while fun, playing can at times feel a little rehashed. This is particularly true in Call of Duty: Ghosts’ single player campaign. The campaign tells the tale of two brothers, Logan and Hesh, as they fight the evil South American Federation forces invading their homeland. Not giving away any spoilers, Call of Duty: Ghosts’ story is exactly what you’d expect from any Call of Duty game, featuring countless hours of ham-fisted dialogue that only serves to explain why Logan and Hesh are in each area of the world, between each of the game’s segmented high intensity gun fighting sections. Call of Duty: Ghosts’ single player gameplay is close to identical to that of most recent Call of Duty games, tasking you to run from one end of the level to the other, occasionally clicking the X button to achieve a specific goal, like planting a bomb or sabotaging a vehicle along the way. Call of Duty: Ghosts also has the same squad mechanic, ensuring you always have at least one AI buddy coming with you on the mission. As well as providing help in firefights, the buddy also ensures that you’re never unclear what you’re doing, and will shout out commands and advice about what you’re meant to do next. While this worked in previous games, given the arrival of numerous more open and expansive shooters, it at times can make Call of Duty: Ghosts’ single player campaign feel like little more than an interactive movie that you’re being pulled through.

WADE’S WINTER

ADVENTURE

Since January is my slowest month of the year, I normally take a winter adventure for the bulk of the month. In years past I’d go down south to the Florida Keys seeking warmer weather. This year I switched it up and went north. I first went up to West Virginia for a couple days. I have some friends up there who spend the summer in Ocracoke, so they got me a show at their local bar and I came to visit them for a bit. It snowed on my last night there but the roads were clear enouh the next day so I then headed over to Alexandria, Virigina for another show on the following Saturday. Another friend of mine lives across the bridge in Ft. Washington, Maryland so I decided to spend a few days up there. Monday came along and we took the Metro into Washington D.C. to visit some of the Smithsonian museums. After sucesfully visiting Washington D.C. with out being mugged, we rolled back up to Maryland to preprare for the upcoming snow. By prepare, I mean we stopped at the Liquor store. Though we were forecasted to get several inches of snow, we truthfully only got about 4 inches. Normally I hate snow, but since I’ve got no where I have to be for a week, I figured I’ll just sit back and relax by the warm fireplace for the next couple days till this clears up. Then I’m off to my next adventure.

Affordable Date Ideas for College Students Everybody wants to go out on elaborate and exciting dates in college. College is a time for trying new things and for expanding your comfort zone. So why shouldn’t we be going on dates that involve casinos, skydiving, fancy dinners downtown, hot air balloon rides or going to see a traveling Broadway play? I’ll give you the one and only reason why these are not the typical college dates-- money. In college, having some extra money to spend is an extreme luxury, and normally this luxury is spent on things like splurging at the grocery store for the brand name potato chips. It is NOT spent on taking the girl you like on a hot air balloon ride for your first date. Mostly because a hot air balloon ride, while being unbelievably romantic and exciting and is sure to book you that second date, costs about $200 per person. Yikes. Do not fear. If you are looking for something fun to do with that special someone while not being out a months worth of rent, I have got just the suggestions for you. Read on for some unique (and cheap) date ideas for college students.

Go stargazing This date is awesome because it is absolutely free. Stargazing is about romantic as it gets so you can not go wrong. Just grab a blanket and head out to a grassy spot on campus and lay down and enjoy the phenomenon that is the starry sky. You can impress your date by preparing ahead of time and learning to identify the big dipper and other constellations.

Go to the movies with your campus ID Normally, most movie theaters located near a college campus offer discounted movie tickets with proof of your student ID. Here at Ohio State, the movie theater Gateway, which is located right across from campus, offers student movie tickets for $3. If a movie theater near your campus offers this same deal, it would make a cheap and fun date.

Make a themed dinner

Go to a school sporting event

Going out to dinner is obviously much more expensive than cooking at home. However, simply cooking dinner for your date can be kind of boring. To spice it up and make it a special experience, have a themed dinner date. Pick a romantic place, such as Italy, and together cook an Italian dinner complete with an Italian set table (candles and Italian hors d’oeuvres). Play some classic Italian music in the background and create an atmosphere that will make you and your date feel as if you just landed in Rome. After dinner if the mood is feeling right, you could watch a romantic Italian movie together, my personal suggestion would be Letters to Juliet, the perfect Italian romance. After the movie, surprise your date with a classic Italian dessert, such as Gelato.

Attending most sporting events in college is 100% free to students. Take your date to a swimming meet or a lacrosse game. This is a great way to take advantage of being a student. However, if you wanted to take your date to a football game, which usually does costs money, student tickets are relatively cheap so this still could be a fun idea if it is in your bud-

get. But if not, there are plenty of other sporting events going on weekly at your college and they are free.

Study together We all have to do it, so why not make a date out of it! Studying doesn’t have to mean spending hours at the quiet library all by yourself. Get creative and invite your date over for a study session complete with some junk food from the vending machine and popcorn.

Have a movie marathon A great way to get to know someone is to watch movies with them. After you watch a movie the best thing to do is to discuss it. Renting movies is relatively cheap, so rent a whole stack of movies and invite that special someone over for a movie marathon. This time of year, you could think about renting scary movies. Or, you could rent classic movies, your favorite movies, their favorite movies, silly movies, or bad movies so that way you can talk through them about how dumb they are. Any type of movie you decide to rent, you are sure to have a good time with good conversation.

STREET CHIC DAILY 1 - “I am absolutely obsessed with this French Connection sweater. I’ve always had a complicated relationship with anything that glitters (and animal prints, for that matter) but this one has exactly the right amount of sparkle and is officeappropriate. I paired it with a black flare skirt (always good to have one in your closet) to give my silhouette a little shape. It’s a classic outfit that I can take from the office to a restaurant.” 2 - “One time I saw Jenna Lyons wear a jean jacket buttoned all the way to the top, so I wore a jean jacket buttoned all the way to the top. Mean Girls references aside, I love the downtown edge this old school Gap number gives primmer pieces—like a beaded Derek Lam mini I scored for a song at a consignment shop and this cozy sweater from The Row. The glasses are Oliver Peoples; the barely-visible peach tips on my hair are courtesy of Hot Huez, a chalking product marketed to tweens; the tights are Falke; and the boots are my go-to Tod’s. They are comfortable and durable, which are mandatory adjectives during this vortex nonsense. NONSENSE. (Not pictured: A jacket by Allegri Milano that, according to the tag, is made of a technical satin that is ‘soft to the touch and with a glossy and silky appearance.’ It’s all so true.)”

3 - Today, Ralph Lauren debuted this year’s Olympic uniforms for #teamUSA. Sadly, I will not be attending the games as it conflicts with New York Fashion Week, and have graciously given my spot to Ashley Wagner. I think the best thing to do if you cannot compete as an Olympian, is to dress like one. And that’s what I did today. I am wearing a men’s sweater from J.Crew, a Zara skirt with leggings underneath and two pairs of socks, which you can’t see but I thought you should know. It’s 10 degrees.
