Hybrid Dual Diploma Program: Washington Academy Online

Program Objective The objective of the Dual Diploma Program is to enable the participant to obtain an American Diploma with the Washington Academy, a diploma that certifies the completion of high school in the United States, at the same time as graduating from high school in the home country. Local high school credits (subjects) are combined with credits from the U.S. high school J1/F1 study abroad program plus online courses to enable the student to earn the U.S. diploma.

Program Details • Washington Academy requires students to take a total of 6 credits in addition to local high school completion to be eligible for the

Washington Academy Diploma. • Students earn up to 2 “credits” from their study abroad program in the USA that can accredited towards the Dual Diploma. • The other 4 “credits” (or classes) required for the Dual Diploma will be acquired through distance/ online courses, through the private college-preparatory high school, Washington Academy located in the state of Maine, USA. • Online course format includes: digital curriculum with email support, grading, and feedback on assignments from teachers. • For each course, students obtain access to the learning platform for 40 weeks and study at their own pace. They can complete a course anytime within the 40-week period. • Students completing courses within 40 weeks with a grade of D or above will obtain 1 high school credit through Washington Academy per course. • Students successfully earning all 6 credits (including at least 4 online courses plus 2 courses while studying abroad) will be awarded a high school diploma from Washington Academy. • Washington Academy transcripts may be requested to be sent directly to colleges/universities on behalf of the student. Transcripts will list courses/credits/grades taken with Washington Academy. Students submitting transcripts for application to colleges/universities will need to present transcripts from all high schools attended.

Program Includes • Student access for 40 weeks to the Washington Academy Online platform for designated asynchronous courses. • Teacher support provided through up to 3 student-teacher video conferences. Teachers are also available Monday to Friday through the platform or via e-mail to assist or guide students. • “Monitor” (parent) access to the platform is also provided if desired to follow the progress of the student, the test results, and the judgements of the professors. • Support of a counselor who will monitor the students’ progress on the platform to help ensure they complete the course within the 40-week time period. • Optional live lectures (lessons) are available for select core courses with the American professors of Washington Academy Online every two weeks by subject during the academic year. Attendance at live lectures is NOT required. Recordings may be available. Courses offering live lectures are subject to change. Courses offering live lecture sessions for the 2022-23 school year are: English 11, English 12, US History,

Psychology, Marketing and Entrepreneurship, and Marine Biology.

Complimentary Course Add-ons: • Individual college/university counseling and application assistance is offered free through the College Advisement Program (CAP) for students interested in applying to universities in the USA, UK,

• Tutorme – free 24/7 one-on-one online academic tutoring is available to all students and includes access to the Writing Lab.

Washington Hybrid Dual Diploma Requirements • All students must take U.S. History and English 11 or English 12, PLUS 4 electives. • Age requirements: All students must complete the program before the student turns 20 years old. • All students must complete the program before or at the same time as they graduate from their home school. • English Level - At least B1-B2 recommended. No official English test is required by Washington Academy. • Students must complete each online course with a grade of D or above to receive credit. • To get credit for courses taken on the J1/F1 program, students must earn at least a “C” in the designated course. Students can only get apply J1/F1 credits for courses that are on the Washington Academy course list. • Students must graduate from their local school and maintain a C average with their local school. • Students cannot get credit for an online course that they’ve also taken at home. Online courses need to be different than local school courses.

Required Documents Local school transcript and copy of identification showing date of birth.

Program Length Program can be completed in 1 – 4 years. Counselors are available to assist students in planning their program length and courses. Students must confirm their intended length of study prior to invoicing.

Payment schedule Students will pay annually based on the following structure. Payment must be received in full for that year prior to the student receiving access to the learning platform.

Enrollment Fees A one-time enrollment fee is due upon initial enrollment.

Tuition • 1-year Program: If program is to be completed in one year, full tuition is due prior to course start. • 2-year Program: If program is to be completed in two years, 50% is due each year. • 3-year Program: If program is to be completed in three years, 33% is due each year. • 4-year Program: If program is to be completed in four years: 25% each year.

Cancellation and Refund Policy • Cancellation prior to course start = 100% refund excluding the

Program Objective The objective of the Dual Diploma Program is to enable the participant to obtain an American Diploma with the Thornton Academy, a diploma that certifies the completion of high school in the United States, at the same time as graduating from high school in the home country. Local high school credits (subjects) are combined with 6 online courses to enable the student to earn the U.S. diploma.

Program Details • The 6 online high school courses will be provided through asynchronous distance/ online classes, through the fully-accredited, highly reputable private high school Thornton Academy located in the state of Maine, USA. • Online course format includes: digital curriculum with email support, grading, and feedback on assignments from teachers. • For each course, students obtain access to the learning platform for 40 weeks and study at their own pace. They can complete a course anytime within the 40-week period. • Students completing courses within 40 weeks with a grade of D or above will obtain 1 high school credit through Thornton Academy per course. • Students meeting the requirements and successfully completing all 6 online courses will be awarded a high school diploma from

Thornton Academy. • Thornton Academy transcripts may be requested to be sent directly to colleges/universities on behalf of the student. Transcripts will list courses/credits/grades taken with Thornton Academy. Live lectures are NOT required. Timing of the lectures may be difficult for the student.
