ABOUT THE SPEAKERS AND PANELISTS

Edward Kieswetter

Edward Kieswetter, the newly appointed Commissioner for the South African Revenue Service has a distinguished executive track record in public service, international financial services, as an independent board director including for audit ethics, and as President of the Da Vinci Institute - a School of Business Leadership. In a special keynote under our conference theme of Values, Ethics & Leadership, Edward will explore the 'nonnegotiables' if Africa is to achieve its vision for growth, trade and people-development.

Dr Ken Dubin

Dr Ken Dubin is an adjunct professor of Human Resources and Strategy at IE Business School. He is also the Managing Partner at Medius Capital, a London-based investment partnership focused on technology companies in Southern Europe, and the Executive Director at Kinimara, a Madrid-based developer of ecosystems for the Internet of Things.

Rapelang Rabana

Internationally renowned technology entrepreneur, Rapelang Rabana has amassed over 13 years’ experience innovative technologies. She is the Founder of learningtech startup Rekindle Learning and a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum. She is also a Partner at private equity firm, Nisela Capital.

Kenyan-born Carol Abade is the Group CEO of Exp., a Pan African marketing and sponsorship agency. After cofounding a company called Direct Marketing Communications, Abade joined forces with Group Africa Marketing to form Exp, which now has operations in more than 17 African countries. Since first becoming interested in experiential marketing, Abade has been actively involved in the launch of Exp in 12 countries over the last 20 years.

Tracey Swanepoel, Director at THINKspiration, is also the former Internal Strategy Executive for Harmony Gold and a member of the Creative Skills Council; an international forum of experts drawn from academia, the arts, and business who collaborate and share ideas on creativity and business leadership. Furthermore, she lectures extensively on strategic alignment, strategy execution, and internal marketing/communication.

Jim holds a Bachelor of Arts in Leadership and Influence from Jones International University, an Associates in Airway Science and a Professional Managers Certification from the Community College of the Air Force. Before joining N2Growth, Jim served as the eleventh Command Chief Master Sergeant of the Air National Guard. As the highest ranking enlisted person and the principal advisor to the Director of the Air National Guard, he was responsible for all matters influencing the health, morale, welfare and professional development of more than 100,000 Air Guard Member. Jim has served in executive positions with subsequent responsibility for personnel, resources, and institutional focus directly affecting programs aimed at driving business result.

Lisa is the Associate Director at THINKspiration, and as a facilitator and coach with a background in psychology, she thrives on connection with people, on creating catalytic learning environments, and on making what she knows accessible and profoundly useful for them. Lisa is an accredited SDI facilitator, and trains, coaches, and empowers people to find solutions and strategies for success and fulfilment - personally, relationally, and in their work.

Prof. Shirley Zinn, Council Member of the University of Cape Town, is the former Group Head of Human Resources at Woolworths Holdings Limited. She is also an Extraordinary Professor at the University of Pretoria’s Department of Human Resource Management, and recently been appointed as Adjunct Professor at the University of Cape Town.

Ian Paterson is Head of Strategy and Digitisation at N2Growth Africa EMEAA and is a consultant and facilitator in the fields of strategy, organisational design, and change management. He consults to many of South Africa’s corporates as well as leading organisations in the public sector. Recent work has focused on the future of education as well as safety/security.

Dr Jerry Gule

Dr Jerry Gule is CEO of the IPM, a professional business coach registered with International Coaching Federation (ICF) following completion of coach training at Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS). He is also chairman of two non-profit organizations that he is passionate about for the difference they make in society in general, namely, the SAE4D and The Love Trust.

Ian Russell is the CEO and Founder of Disrupting Consultancy Pty, a boutique advisory company focused on the power of positive disruption and digital tools. As the previous CEO of BCX, with a turnover of around $2bn and a workforce numbering 10,000 employees, Ian embarked on an ambitious programme to re-invent the business as a major digital, cloud and software services provider.

Sandra Burmeister

Sandra Burmeister serves as the Regional President of N2Growth Africa and oversees all N2Growth operations on the continent with locations in South Africa, Kenya, and Nigeria. Based in Johannesburg, Sandra has more than 20 years’ experience in Executive Search, working with blue chip companies across sub-Saharan Africa. Prior to the merger with N2Growth she was a founding member of the Landelahni Group and Landelahni Business Leaders, was the former Amrop partner for Africa, and also chaired Amrop’s Global Mining, Energy and Infrastructure practice.

Dr Olayiwola Oladapo

Dr Oladapo is the Ag. CEO and Registrar at Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), as well as a Nigerian Organizational Development Professional and thought leader with over 20 years of experience spanning all the major sectors of Nigerian economy. Thirteen years of this experience have been at very senior management level managing and developing Organizational and Human Capital Development solutions for different public and private sector organizations in Nigeria. He has deep understanding of the Nigerian business landscape and its delicate workings, having managed and provided strategic and professional advisory services to C-Suite level executives.

Sandile E. Hlophe

Sandile is an experienced corporate finance and management consulting Partner at EY. He is the Market Segment Leader (MSL) for the Africa Region, Government & Public Sector (GPS). In this role he leads a core team of partners across Africa in executing a cross Service Line, key accounts services growth strategy. He has extensive corporate finance, business turnaround, management consulting and business development experience. Sandile specializes in key account executive leadership, client service delivery executive oversight and enabling engagement delivery alignment with the c-suite and the board of directors.

Dr Mariheca Otto

Dr Mariheca Otto has been the owner and manager of Motto Business Consulting since 2005. She consults in the field of organisation development and internal marketing (creating buy-in into vision) for a variety of clients in different industries. She works in association with independent OD consultants and other credible service providers.

Brand Pretorius

In 2011, Brand Pretorius retired as CEO of McCarthy at the end of a term that saw massive change and turnaround for the company, and also stepped down as an executive director of its controlling shareholder Bidvest. Thereafter, Brand published his book entitled “In the driving seat – lessons in leadership� in 2013, and he currently serves on several boards, both as trustee and non-executive board member. Drawing on his extensive business background, Brand will be discussing the key lessons he learnt regarding effective leadership. In his session, he will cover ethics as a prerequisite for effective leadership, as well as the importance of radiating hope.

Alison Gitelson, CEO and Founder of CanBeeDone is a maximizer, facilitator, and speaker. She combines over thirty years of technical and management experience in a broad range of businesses, with a deep understanding of human behaviour. Alison brings clarity and mastery to the art of effective people management. She focuses on the key areas of communication, individualized management, engagement, embracing diversity, and conflict resolution, with the intention of enabling both people and businesses to thrive.

Naina Desai

Naina's experience across Coca-Cola, spanning almost 20years, brings deep insights to our Indaba Day. Recently promoted to lead Revenue Growth Management strategy and deployment for Arca Continental’s US operations, Naina previously led Commercial and Customer for Africa. Naina will be speaking with her colleague Lungile Mbatha, Head of Customer & Channel Strategy at Coca-Cola Southern and East Africa, particularly about the road to success for women in large companies.

Dr Mariam Sha

As the CEO of Investors in People South Africa, the international best practice Standard, Dr Mariam Sha has worked with 100’s of organisations, small and large on implementing best practice. The impact of work with clients has seen positive culture change, 90% staff retention and increased employee engagement. Author of ‘An Engaged Workforce – 6 practical steps to creating a coaching culture”, Dr Sha brings over 14 years of knowledge, experience and insight to the engagement sector.

Janet du Preez

Janet du Preez is the founder of Engagement Dynamics, the developer of the Dynamic Engagement Framework© and of the Art of Greatness Guide©. Her background in health sciences, psychology and business, qualifies Janet uniquely to support other bold adventurers in their quest to create thriving 21st century organisations and to understand engagement in new ways.

Susan Williams

Susan Williams, Founder and MD of Prose&Coms is a people development consultant, facilitator, storyteller and speaker. She combines her theoretical grounding in the complexities of language, decision- making and the understanding of knowledge/power, with over 30 years of practical management skill and discipline. She focuses on the subject areas of communication, inclusivity and diversity, engagement, cognitive development and problem-solving. Her interactive, experiential and practical workshops consistently deliver on expectations and provide a high return on investment. As an Attorney, Thandi's legal and business career of over 30 years spans the Legal Resources Centre, the Independent Mediation Service of SA (IMSSA), the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) and senior partner at the commercial law firm, Routledge Modise (presently known as Hogan Lovells SA). Presently an Executive Director and Shareholder at Peotona Group Holdings, Thandi also chairs the Board of BP Southern Africa and Tokiso Dispute Settlement. She is a non-Executive Director on the Boards of Toyota SA, Toyota Financial Services (South Africa) Ltd, Reunert Ltd, Ceramic Industries Ltd and the IDC.
