JLC Kaiserslautern

About JLC Kaiserslautern ABOUT JLC Kaiserslautern: EESTEC Kaiserslautern was founded by a group of students from the Technical University of Kaiserslautern in April 2013. Shortly after the initial meetings, an application to EESTEC international was submitted and Kaiserslautern was accepted as an Observer. Recently, Kaiserslautern has been promoted to JLC. We frequently organize local workshops and social activities like e.g. a Lego Mindstorms workshop, Game Designing workshop, Android workshop, Peace day celebration, Android Day, Barbeques, etc. The members from Kaiserslatuern also frequently attend EESTEC international events. In addition to that, we are planning to organize an international workshop in the near future. —————————————————————————————————— ————————– About the City of Kaiserslautern: Our picturesque city of Kaiserslautern is located in the middle of one of the largest contiguous forests in Germany, called Palatinate Forest (aka. the Tuscany of Germany). It is known to be a great region for spending your holidays. Kaiserslautern or the kings (Kaiser) Lautern (name of a river) received its name from the holy Roman Emperor Frederick Barbarossa, who ruled the holy Roman Empire from 1155 until 1190, being his favorite hunting retreat. It is a city full of history: Emperor Barbarossa had his Imperial Palace (Kaiserpfalz) built here. Even Napoleon had breakfast here once. In addition, there are many forts, castles and fountains in and around the city. Kaiserslautern offers the opportunity to gain international and multicultural experiences. The internationality of the city is known by its nickname ’K-Town’ affected by the Americans, who form the largest U.S. population centre outside the territory of the United States in the district of Kaiserslautern. The concept of the world as a "global village" has long since been a reality here. Kaiserslautern offers multicultural recreational spots like the japanese garden and international cuisines. Kaiserslautern is also home to the Bundesliga football-team, 1.FCK and has the Fritz-Walter-Stadium which was used to host one of the matches during FIFA’s worldcup of 2006. Kaiserslautern is also a modern IT and technological center. The City connects nature and the environment with an impressive infrastructure. The science

JLC Kaiserslautern hub of Kaiserslautern is one of the largest IT clusters in Europe. Yearly, around 12,000 students choose the former Barbarossa city to study in. Ever since the establishment of the scientifically- and technically-oriented TU Kaiserslautern in 1970, Kaiserslautern has become an important university town within the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, with a focus on research. TU Kaiserslautern’s "Excellence in Teaching" award - as one of six winning universities nationwide - is the living proof of the importance of teaching at the university. It is a campus university with around 14,200 national and international students, offering over 100 future-oriented courses across 12 subject areas.. In addition to the Technische Universität (TU), Kaiserslautern also has an University of Applied Sciences (FH KL) whose origin dates back to 1833. In addition, students and (up-and-coming) scientists benefit from the many internationally renowned research institutions, including two Fraunhofer Institutes, a Max-Planck Institute, the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence which also work in close cooperation with the TU Kaiserslautern.

LC Aachen

About LC Aachen We are one of the elder Local Committees and one of the foundation members of EESTEC in 1986. Our members are students of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at the RWTH Aachen University and of the University of Applied Sciences Aachen. EESTEC Aachen is a working group of the Electrical Engineering Student Association of the RWTH Aachen. We have a cooperation with the IEEE Student Branch Aachen especially concerning one day excursions. Regularly we organize the Aachen - St. Petersburg/Moscow Exchange in summer and we will try to keep this tradition. We organise a lot of local events like excursions to companies and research institutes to get a wider recognition among our students.

AIXTREME: 3 for 30 From October, 20th 2016 to October, 23rd 2016 Organisers’ report Aixtreme: 3 for 30 is an IMW which took place from 20.10.2016 to 23.10.2016. LC Aachen celebrated its 30th Birthday. From around 10 Commitments the EESTECers had joined the fun travelling between 3 countries in only of 4 days; Germany, Belgium and France. As the name says it was a lot of travelling and "express" sightseeing. We have spent more than 12 hours either in a train or a train sta-

On Friday, 21.10, the day after the INTERNATIONAL NIGHT, we had to be at the European Parliament before 10:00 in the morning. So we did and learned a lot about the European Parliament and EU Institutions. They were even able to discuss the Europe’s current situation. All three days has different stories, more like three different events with the same people in one package.

Regional Exchange for Cooperation 2 From November, 22nd 2016 to November, 25th 2016 Participants’ report What can you do when EESTEC shows you the world, gives you new friends and memories that shall last a lifetime? Well, you have to give back, of course! That was going through my head as I applied for this years Regional Exchange, taking place in Aachen from the 21st to the 25th of November, 2016. I knew it was like a mini Congres for our Region and that entails a lot of work and knowing about our LCs. I gotta say, I was a bit afraid. I am relatively new to EESTEC, with my track record of 6 months and not that many events as also not that many cooperation with the more international side of EESTEC. So needless to say, I felt like a fish on the dry at first. Sitting in the train, working on my laptop, exchanging ideas with my fellow friends at 5 in the morning... Starting something new is not rarely scary. You feel like you are not gonna fit it. Like you already are set to fail, like you are alone in your thoughts. Wow, I wish I could just yell at my past self in that train. Wake up! Do you really think that EESTEC is not gonna be behind you 100% ? Do you really think that there is a place to feel alone in the majestic world of our family?. EESTEC was always with me, with us. Arriving in Aachen, we were greeted by cheerfull people who had even less sleep than us, but were so enthusiastic and willing to make us feel welcome. Going through the well known Christmas market, visiting Chocolate shops, carrying 10 kilo of chocalate through the city while having a city rally and everybody looking at you like you are something they will never dare to be! We are EESTEC! We are a family! Aachen provided us with many lectures about trendy topics like Inno Energy and Mobility of Tomorrow, while also giving us a chance to work together to improve our region during multiple trainings by EESTEC trainers and working sessions on various topics, covering Teams and Groups, Persuasion, Sharing our Resources and Cooperation with our own University. Enough to tickle everyones imagination. Imagine having a clear head and will for work after crazy Aachen parties every evening ending with the legen- wait for it, -dary International night. Well, not everyone can be an EESTECer! :P

LC Aachen In the name of my LC and I can safely say, our region, we want to thank Aachen for giving us the opportunity to have a peak in the beautiful city and make our EESTEC family even greater. There will come a time when you shall say: I wanna go visit that city of Europe and think: No, not visit the city. Go meet my friends! What is a city if not filled space. Why see construction, when you can see people? Why just study when you can experience the world? Improve yourself, be an engineer, travel, go crazy, meet crazier people and make memories. Or should I say, just let EESTEC show you all the colours of the world!

Organisers’ report An Exchange for the West Region organized by LC Aachen, took place from 21st till 25th November. Hamburg, Kaiserslautern, Karlsruhe, Munich, Delft, Antwerpen, Lille and Zurich. These (J)/LCs have similar cultures and environments and they are having many similar problems and advantages, with this event we offered a platform for mutual exchange, develop ideas for regional cooperation and foster strong bonds on both a personal and organizational level. We achieved this by providing working sessions on selected topics but there were also soft Skilss on schedule. Just like the name says there was a lot of exchanges between 13 participants and organizers, such as unforgettable memories.

LC Ankara

About LC Ankara EESTEC LC Ankara, is founded on 2006 as the first Local Committee of EESTEC in Asia. Even though it is a relatively young LC, with more than 200 members and successful events, EESTEC LC Ankara is one of the most successful local committees through the Europe. In 8 years, EESTEC LC Ankara hosted over 150 European students for 15 international events, 13 of which just for EESTEC members, and more than 150 students from Ankara are given the opportunity to attend international workshops. Moreover, local events in different scopes are started to be organized by LC Ankara, in order to present career, education and development opportunities to its members.

occupyMarmaris Level 4 From August, 27th 2016 to September, 2nd 2016 Participants’ report Marmaris event of LC Ankara still rocks. This is my second marmaris event and I had a lot of unforgetable memories. Generally the food is great, they have balanced the menu and never repeat themselves. All of the activites are well planned and joyful. Water fights in safa, amazing marmaris bays which we see in our boat trip, are just fex examples. Days have passed with swimming in beautiful beaches, nights have passed with incredible parties in several night clubs in marmaris. All the partcipants and LC Ankara created a strong friendship bonds. I hope we will gather again soon. (Mert Karacelebi -Participant of occupyMarmaris Level 4)

LC Ankara

Organisers’ report LC Ankara organized its fourth exchange in Marmaris, one of the touristic centers of Turkish Riviera. With many members of LC Izmir and LC Ankara, we’ve made a great regional event and had a week full of fun! There were too many different activities during this awesome week. As an example, we danced on the boat and swam in 5 different bays during boat trip. In another day, jeeps brought us from the hostel for safari tours, and we had a war with water guns on the way to Waterfall. After jumping from the rocks in waterfall, we went to Jesus Beach and walked on the water from one side to another. We also had Foam Parties in the clubs and beaches, aqua parks, Turkish Night with Turkish Music and bellydancer etc. all week. Besides, two soft skill trainings were given to participants. All in all, everyone thought that it was a great holiday for an EESTECer full of EESTEC spirit!

LC Antwerp

About LC Antwerp In 2016, we organized our third international event called ’AntwerPi 2.0’, which was a huge success. Our (unplanned) motivational weekend attracted a lot of attention from surrounding LCs! We’re continuing our other activities such as lunch lectures and a system for student jobs in IT companies. We’re continuing to grow, and this year our board was almost completely renewed. We’re also in the process of spreading to another institution (KdG) and upgrading our website to provide better info on what we offer to our members.

AntwerPi 2.0 From June, 26th 2016 to July, 3rd 2016 Participants’ report Event: AntwerPi 2.0, LC Antwerp. Participant: Buddhika Priyashantha Kandamulla, LC Bucharest. This is the story about four EESTECers who gathered another 16 EESTECers to an amazing city called Antwerp. It was a awesome combination of northern, southern, eastern, western and central Europe. The main orientation of the event was to develop a Python code and to construct an autonomous drone. Even though final stage of the code was bit of advance programming, all of us could enjoy rest of academic and practical sessions. It is an interesting fact that whole Antwerp University was advised to be cautious because we do drone experiments. It was a great opportunity, that we

26

Yearbook 2016-2017

LC Antwerp could visit Nokia fixed network center in Antwerp. We realized that Nokia is an enormous company rather than just a mobile phone company. At night we were always advised to "go crazy". To ensure it happens every night we were given free beers almost every night. The drinking game which I most-enjoyed ever was in Antwerp. It is called "Cantus" which is a different game. Normally people drink while listening to songs, but in Cantus should drink while singing. Also we had an unforgettable party inside a tunnel which belongs to 2nd world war era. We didn’t forget watch Eurocup football matches as well. In some matches it was bit difficult because we got supporters from both teams. Saturday night was the international night. It was such a wonderful moment to see group of EESTECers coming from different countries just for the international night. Last but not least organizers were really amazing. They were just 4 people but amazingly everything was well organized. There was nothing could escape from their attention and care. I wonder why that week felt a lot faster than it usually is. Otherwise I could have enjoyed more and more. LC Antwerp, Thank you for everything. We can’t wait to welcome you here in Bucharest.

Organisers’ report We organised the event right after our exams and it was the first time organising an event for 3 out of the 4 organisers. Maybe not an optimal combination in hindsight but we managed to pull it off despite the requisite amount of stressful moments and problems. We started planning and brainstorming about possible ideas at the end of the former academic year but the bulk of the work was done in the last months before the event itself. The biggest problem we had was getting permission to fly the drone. Due to an overzealous new law which was finally (in a bad way) passed in April it wasn’t easy to get permission to fly our drone anywhere even though we were ready to satisfy the stringent law requirements. Eventually, after a sit-down with our rector, we got permission with a set of extra requirements on top of the law’s.

Yearbook 2016-2017

27

LC Antwerp This meant we couldn’t execute all our planned use-cases like using the air quality sensor but luckily we could at least fly the drone. The event itself went quite smoothly despite some last-minute schedule changes. We did have some difficulty finding a location for the international night but in the end we got to do it in of the most famous and old bars in Antwerp right next to the city hall. The schedule was mostly lectures in the morning, practice sessions in the afternoon and parties in the evening. All in all the participants were awesome and we had a great time, we think they had a great time as well!

LC Athens

About LC Athens LC Athens was founded in 2004 by a handful of students in the National Technical University of Athens. Athens became officially an EESTEC Local Committee in Congress 2005 in Madrid. During these eleven years, more than 900 members have joined our local committee, and the number is still increasing. At this point, we have around 100 active members, willing to help our LC make a step further. Having organized nine successful international workshops, with more than 460 participants from all over Europe, LC Athens deserves the title of "must go" EESTEC LC. We are, also, very active in our faculty, organizing many interesting local activities, not only for our members, but also for the rest of the students. In this way, a lot of students gain interest in EESTEC, and we keep on spreading around the "EESTEC Spirit"!

GreeceMeUp 4U From July, 26th 2016 to July, 31st 2016 Participants’ report Summer in Antiparos Okay, first let me start by mentioning that 5 days has passed since my departure, but every night I still feel like I’m falling asleep in my sandy sleeping bag and my imaginary pillow made of towels - I don’t care I loved it. So, how did it all start? Once upon a time during an exam week, instead of you know ... studying, I thought it would be nice to look up some ideas for

30

Yearbook 2016-2017

LC Athens the summer vacation. Then, I remembered that a lot of EESTECers have told me about this awesome event that takes place in the summer in Greece and as every normal human being nowadays, I started my "research" by scrolling on Facebook and trying to find everything I can about it. Later, I got my info: it’s Greece Me Up 4U and it’s going to be camping in Antiparos (definitely googled it back then). The adventurous spirit of this exchange immediately caught my eye, I sent the motivational letter and somehow I just had the feeling that it would be Legen...wait for it... DARY, Legendary. And it was, but more on that later. So, starting from the happy and curious faces of the organizing team to the enthusiasm and excitement that all of us had, I believe I have the right to say that we - as participants, as adventurous souls and mostly as true EESTECers, all together we gave the effort to have and experience this amazing opportunity. And no, I’m not talking about glamour or luxury, but it’s the little things that mattered! I know I sound like a Facebook motivational quote, but it’s all trueJ We were more than 50 people out there, but somehow I had the chance to meet and talk to everyone, and as I was exploring more different and interesting personalities, I was getting this positive vibe that I’m at the right place, at the right time. Each one of us came there to enjoy, to dance, to twerk, to lyp sync (hats off to the amazing and dramatic performance of Orestis and Janna) and to simply have a good time ... and the most beautiful part of all was that there was no tension at all (except when I turned into a Nazi during the Island Rally) and everybody had the freedom to experience this event in its own way - which was really hard to achieve, since we were an army of crazy people. So, organizing team, LC Athens, I am really grateful for that, the Oscar goes to you! J If you ask me, since I am more or less "an always hungry" type of person, I must point out that the food and the service were absolutely flawless, it was clean, on time, there was diversity and we had the chance to taste some traditional plates (okay, my meatless and tzatziki -less Souvlaki doesn’t count) and don’t get me started on the feta cheese, now that is delicious! Also, during our nights out and the Island Rally - which had one of the funniest challenges ever, we visited the Chora, which is the heart of the island, with all of the beautiful little, white houses, narrow streets and how can you not be fascinated by the distinctive, amazing smell of the traditional Greek coffee or the laughter of tourists all in one place, from all over the world, trying to experience the beauty of this island, despite of age, culture, traditions.

LC Athens And organizers, I only have the best of words for you. I think I can speak in the name of all the participants and say that we were lucky to meet a team of wonderful, hardworking people, that accepted us with a big smile and that worked so hard to give us this amazing experience, not just before we arrived, but during the whole event, despite the fact that you were exhausted and had many many sleepless nights. And last, but not least - because I’m sure that we will all do our best to relive this adventure once again, let me say that this trip was worth so much more than any other regular summer exchange, because it was meaningful, fun, fulfilling and it made us really happy and thankful that we were a part of it and really sad to leave and deal with the fact that it was only a couple of days. Finally, in my own Greek-ish way I have the honor to say that "Malakas, eichame to chrono tis zois mas"... Yes, we definitely had the time of our lives! J Miss you all so much and I’m really looking forward to our next adventure, Loves, Dorina (Queen of Sand) Filova, LC Skopje

Organisers’ report Generally speaking, the event ran pretty smoothly for the organizing board and the volunteers. Some minor problems came up and most of them derived from the fact that we hadn’t been ourselves to the location of the exchange before. Firstly, our tents at the camping were not all at the same spot, as we had been promised, due to the lack of a big enough continuous space for all of us. Apart from that, we had to change the order of some activities in our schedule. For example, our "island rally" was supposed to take place in the morning and we pushed it back to the afternoon to avoid walking in the sun for too long. Of course, our participants were informed in time

32

Yearbook 2016-2017

LC Athens about all the changes. Lastly, we had planned a visit to Antiparos Cave but our reservation was cancelled last minute from their side for unknown reasons. After that, we had to rearrange the visit for another day for those participants who really wanted to see the cave. In spite of these occasions of minor turbulence, we believe the organizing committee and the volunteers were highly motivated and accomplished everything they should, effectively and in a good mood, doing their best to improve our participants’ experience in Greece.

Dr. roBot From November, 26th 2016 to December, 1st 2016 Participants’ report Report by Adrian Wedlikowski: At the turn of November and December, EESTEC LC Athens had organized an International Workshop called "Dr Robot" in which I had the pleasure to participate. In this brief essay I will share my point of view, personal thoughts and will describe all organizing aspects that were maintained during that event. At the beginning I must say, that being accepted for this workshop was a great opportunity for me to visit Athens and Greece overall for the first time, so I was very excited about participating. Shortly after being officially accepted as a participant, Orestis (Contact Person) contacted us via facebook and e-mail, providing information and answering all our questions for the sake of making a proper preparation for us. The communication was very nice and he was responding very quickly and assured that everything was clear for us, so we could, without any worries, arrive to Athens. We also received a proper Survival Guide, so everyone knew what to bring and what to expect. Besides organizing stuff, Organizers came up with the idea to make a kind of internet ice-breaking game so we could know each other a little better just before the event. When finally the long-awaited moment had come and I arrived to Athens a day before the official event, I was welcomed really nicely with Peter(LC Budapest) by Marilena at the airport and then they took good care of us; they showed us some of the city, we could have a taste of Gyros and so on :) . Since we arrived before the event organizers hosted us in their place so we were safe and sound. The Main Event Beginssssss... During the first day we were given the keys to the Awesome 3-star hotel where we were staying. We had plenty of free time to rest, adapt and prepare for the first-day activities. The first activities were of course the Ice-Breaking Games and I must say that those were the most crazy, awesome and fun Ice-Breaking Games that I have participated in my life, They really did a great job and we all got super close to each other and that made the whole week a lot better. After Ice-Breaking Games we had a really good dinner consisting of tradi-

34

Yearbook 2016-2017

LC Athens tional delicious Greek dishes. It’s worth mentioning that the organizers thought of everyone, and participants that don’t eat gluten, don’t eat meat, don’t eat pork were provided with suitable food, and so they were till the end of the event. After the dinner we had some free time to prepare for the first party called "Traffic light party", which means that everyone wears the color that indicates his/hers relationship status: red - in relationship, yellow - it depends on mood/ it’s complicated, green free. That was my first encounter with this kind of party, and I can admit that’s a very good idea, especially for the first day, cause you can get to know people even better . The second day, as well as the rest of the week, we went to the Academy where we had lectures in the morning. The lectures were quite interesting and during the first ones we acknowledged the actual situation on the marked and need for the technical improvement in the field of medicine. After the lectures in the second day, we had a good soft-skill training provided by LC Athens trainers: Konstantinos and Serafeim. Training was about teamwork and time management which was very useful for the workshop. After all meals and day activities in the evening it was party time, as every night, but I would like mention that organizers had a really kind approach, and they understood when someone was tired and wanted to take a nap instead of participating in party, so there where no "you must go" but everyone almost wanted to go all the time. :D The third day was very special in my opinion cause we had an opening ceremony in the university, where we were shown the university campus, we participated in the lectures provided by Athen’s professors and where amused while visiting a biomedical-mechanical-electronic laboratory at the University, that was the coolest place on earth, I mean you could do there everything from welding a go-cart, programming a robotic-arm , CNC , making electronics to measuring and cutting tissues for the field of biomedicine and all that in one place! This day was also special because we had an International Night that particular day. So as everyone knows international night means presenting your country’s traditional dishes/snacks and alcohol, but there was one special think about this I.N. One of participants, Geiv from LC Tirana, had his birthday. Therefore the

LC Athens organizers came up with the super sweet idea of making a surprise party for him, with cake, singing a birthday song, and sharing EESTEC spirit love. That was a very nice gesture that I think Geiv will remember for a long time especially since this was his first EESTEC event. Next day our lectures where focused on teaching us the bases of programming in C with the special chatbot framework. At the beginning we created an Azure account and we were trying to merge a web account with our Visual Studio, which didn’t work very well, there were some bugs that couldn’t allow us to connect, but after that, we focused more on coding and understanding the new functionality and syntax. For me it was quite interesting since I had previous encounters with C and the new framework seemed really nice, but for people that haven’t programmed a lot before, the lecture might have been a little bit fast. After the academic part we had the City Rally ! The tasks on the city rally were very creative, crazy and were nicely adapted to the environment. We had a lot of fun and the opportunity to visit a big part of Athens, monuments, historical places and to get really tired but in the good way. At the end of the day, I had an unpleasant surprise, my wallet was stolen! Probably in the metro with all my ID cards, money and other documents. It was real disaster cause I had flight in less than two days, so I needed to make a temporary passport really fast. In all that mess the organizers helped me greatly and despite the fact that they had plenty of work, tasks in organizing everything, there was always someone to help me with doing all the procedures (like going to police, making passport photo, going to polish embassy) in order to get temporary passport as fast as possible. Thanks to them I got a document just in time to make it back home safely. Because of that incident and all the actions I had to perform, I skipped the 80’s party that I heard was epic, and everyone had a great time and also I skipped some of the last lectures. On the last lectures we were divided in teams depending if we had programming skills or not, which was a great idea cause everyone could take an even part in the project. Both teams had the same task; to make a ChatBot - "Dr Robot" that was supposed to diagnose diseases based on symptoms that he was asking you about. The programming team was coding a "AI" of the ChatBot, which meant making him ask the right questions about symptoms and coming up with accurate diseases. The other team was developing the ChatBot on the

36

Yearbook 2016-2017

LC Athens existing workspace. They were making the best way/system of looking for the right disease based on the database of the disease and linked symptoms. After the last lectures, we had a very emotional Farewell Party on which we had the chance to sum up the whole workshop and give a proper feedback/thanks to organizer for their outstanding work. Beside all the fun in traditional meaning (drinking, dancing, having fun), organizers came up with making a Lip-Sync battle (they informed us at the beginning so we had plenty of time to prepare). This was an ideal idea to sum up the entire event and I feel really bad that I didn’t volunteered in that battle. The Departure day began with visiting the Acropolis, taking the last tastes of Greece and then we had to finally return home, which was of course very sad since everyone got so close and the event was so great. We all agreed that it was THE TIME OF OUR LIVES !!! I spent one of the best weeks of my life, made plenty of new friends, had a never ending chain of laughter, explored a city that I always wanted to visit. To sum up this event, I can say that I’m not even mad about being robbed, this event was so good that I could get robbed just to experienced Dr Robot again :)

Organisers’ report As the organizing committee of the workshop "Dr. roBot" we had an amazing time. Most of our participants were new members of EESTEC, so we had also the challenge to raise awareness about the association and its traditions. We believe that they all felt the EESTEC Spirit and we all lived it to the fullest. We had no problem organizing the event and we think that our participants really enjoyed food, accommodation, activities and parties, which we provided. We had a problem with the weather, since it was raining a lot (something really strange for Athens,

Yearbook 2016-2017

LC Athens because Greece is mostly sunny of course!). This made our City Rally a little bit hard, but we were all together and we had as much fun as possible. Another problem was the transportation, because we live in a big city and some distances are really long from one place to another. Nevertheless, we did our for the participants and we think that they totally understood the situation. Moreover, the academical part was not that interesting for everyone, but our participants got to know our university, our professors and our laboratories. They also had the chance to work on their special chatbot, as we promised, but the time was not enough so that they can present a complete project. In general, we believe that we were well-organized and we always had a plan B. Most of our participants were participating in every part of our schedule and we were always with them, we learnt a lot from this experience and we had fun every single moment, despite the tiredness. We also raised our sense of responsibility and got a lot of motivation to continue offering our services in the association.

Live Your Myth In Delphi From December, 2nd 2016 to December, 4th 2016 Participants’ report Live your Myth in Delphi ( Marko Barisic) This is my report for the International Motivation Week held in Delphi, Greece, from 2nd to 4th of December named Live your Myth in Delphi. When I first came to Greece I was welcomed by Tita, EESTEC LC Athens member, at the airport. Instantly I met a lot of people who were just finishing their Dr. Robot workshop. Then I met Orestis, the man whom I spoke initially and who guided me through all the questions I’ve had before coming to Greece, also people like Marilena and Jason, Joanna and many more made me feel welcomed at that time and through the whole stay in Greece. There were a lot of workshop international participants I met, and couple of them stayed for the IMW, from all over the Europe, including Finland, Montenegro, Spain and Germany. There are a lot of words that come to my mind now that I’m writing this in my room in Zagreb, Croatia, 1000 kilometers away from Delphi, away from Greece. And if I had to put it in three words I’d say: new, beautiful and fun. But those words don’t say enough about the weekend I spent in the mountains of Delphi, a place once known as centre of the world in the ancient times. I would have to say more, to show my gratitude and to actually say thanks to people that made it happen. I would have to say that I was very happy about the view we had from the balconies of the welcoming hotel where we stayed. I would have to say that I really liked the food and the effort put into finding great restaurants where we’ve been to. I would have to say that we had a great bus driver Stamatis who got us through narrow streets when it was needed. I would have to say that the whole sightseeing tour we had was great and that I really enjoyed learning about ancient Greece and seeing things that I’ve seen in my history and literature books and also seeing some of the "new" Greece in a place like Arachova. And finally I would have to say that I really enjoyed people from LC Athens who were welcoming, fun and I wish it lasted longer so I could spend more time with them and have one more party lasting beyond sunrise. Hope to see you again Delphi, hope to see you again (LC) Athens!

Organisers’ report On the 2nd of December, right after the workshop Dr. RoBot ended, the fun was transferred on the slope of Mount Parnassus, in Delphi, an ancient Greek city famous for its Oracle. Some of the workshop’s participants followed, along with a couple of other foreigner participants and the new and old members of LC Athens. We arrived in the afternoon where we went straight to the city’s square for some outdoors ice-breaking games. Despite the "cold" we managed to "break the ice" easily (that’s what I call cold humor, right?). Right after, we went for dinner to a local restaurant and then straight to the hotel for the party. The next day, as soon as we had breakfast, we went to visit the museum of Delphi along with the archaeological site. One of the organizers played the role of the guide, informing the participants about the history of the city and the monuments. Then, after we had lunch to another restaurant, we got back to the hotel where the trainers were waiting for us. They had organized a training for the new members concerning working in a team and time management. In the meantime, the more experienced EESTEC members were spread through a couple of working sessions trying to find suggestions for the LC’s development. When it ended, the participants tasted the worldwide famous "souvlaki" and it was party time again. Both of the parties took place in the hotel with our own specially selected music. The next morning, everybody packed their things and we visited Arachova, a famous winter resort nearby, with awesome places to eat (I personally guarantee it). After that, half dead from the lack of sleep, we hopped in the bus and arrived back to Athens. It was time to say goodbye and hold all these amazing memories close to our hearts.

About LC Banja Luka Local committee of Banja Luka has been accepted in a full membership on EESTEC congress in Belgrade, in April 2004. In June 2004 Local committee is registered in Banja Luka court as a nonprofit, student’s organization with a headquarters on Faculty of electrical engineering, Patre 5 street. Today, local committee counts over 200 members. Year in year out, many activities are occurring, with the goal of popularizing student volunteering and gather more members. By participating in the Local committee, students of electrical engineering are gathering organizational skills which are surely important in later professional career. Through 10 years we helped 120 students of Electrical engineering in Banja Luka, to participate in some of the EESTEC events. Local committee has organized 6 international workshops, 3 students exchanges, and hosted more then 100 students from all over the Europe. Significant fact is that, besides opportunity for professional development, considering that students have 59 different destinations to visit, by participating in workshop, students are able to represent our culture, our customs and break possible prejudices. In April 2012, Local committee organized first Soft Skills Academy for 30 students of Banja Luka University. Students were able to work on development of their personal and professional skills necessary for purchasing successful career in their field. Having got great feedback considering our first Soft Skills Academy, in April 2013 we decided to organize it again, and we are organizing it again in 2014 because apparently, students find it very useful and interesting. EESTEC Banja Luka’s SSA is slowly becoming a tradition, and our LC is getting recognized as one of the most important student organisations of the city. 2014 will be a huge year for EESTEC LC Banja Luka, considering that this year we are hosting one of EESTEC’s biggest events - the annual EESTEC Chairperson’s Meeting.

LC Belgrade

About LC Belgrade LC Belgrade is a member of the Association of Students of Electrical Engineering Europe EESTEC since 2000 and is currently, with more than 300 members, one of the largest and best organized local committees in Europe. During sixteen years of its existence, over 1000 students of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade, participated in professional seminars and cultural exchanges in cities all over Europe. Since establishment, we organized more than 50 international and local events, aimed at domestic and international students, to provide them with an opportunity for personal and professional development, and encourage exploring different cultures. Everything we do we believe in outstanding individuals, therefore motivating students for self- improvement and thinking differently is how we contribute to the university community in our country. We are proud to be part of this association, which provides young people with a kind of utopia and open them a new perspective on life, technology, engineering, communications, travel, new cultures, new experiences and meaning of successful projects. How we do it? It is through organising free local projects for students at our University, like "Soft Skills Academy" that was held for the seventh time in 2016, then we provide young people with the opportunity to get the job in our country through organizing the biggest student voluntarily project "JobFair - Kreiraj svoju buduÄ‥nost" which lasts for twelve years, and third local project, with tradition in our committee, is "Brand new engineers" which gives our students insights in current engineering subjects on scientific way with help from professors of our faculty. We all know that international workshops and cultural exchanges are the core of our eestec spirit, and we are always happy and willing to provide you the

LC Belgrade best experience ever in Belgrade. What we get through volunteering in our local committee are the soft skills, discovering ourselves and others through the work on local and international projects, and the greatest gift of all is happiness that is inevitable when you know that you have a great number of outstanding individuals for friends and whichever eestec place you go you will be welcomed with a smile and genuine hospitality.

1st Autumn Congress From December, 11th 2016 to December, 18th 2016 Participants’ report 1st Autumn Congress, 2nd Congress in a row organized by LC Belgrade, announced 3 months before the event, 4th time in this city for me, 5 days with Congress’ activities. These 5 numbers are only hinting what is the subject of the following text. Therefore, in October the International Board announced that LC Belgrade, after the 30th Congress in April, will organize the 1st Autumn Congress. Everyone was really excited about the fact that the 1st Autumn Congress will take place. Belgrade had the experience thus they have decided to save EESTEC frοm the situation to not have an Autumn Congress. After the announcement, I have started to prepare my application as BATCAM and after some days, the Board has informed me that I am accepted and that I will be a scrutinizer during the GMs. So the Congress has begun! We started with the first GM in which everyone welcomed LC Karlsruhe to the EESTEC family. The following day we had the really useful "LC Hangouts" for knowledge transfer between the (J)LCs and Observers and consequently amazing training sessions (Commitment Management and How to influence people). Next days again GMs speaking about serious stuff for the future of EESTEC but the highlight except them was EESTEC Game and Improve EESTEC. Both amazing sessions in which many ideas and outputs came out and I hope soon all these will be implemented. Besides all these, we had a lot of free time to see the city (city rally, city tour, visit Tesla’s Museum and St Sava’s temple) and of course parties! Parties in Kafanas, clubs and in a tram! As I told you 4th time there and always I find something new. On the weekend we had the IMW with a visit to Avala Tower and to the Monument of the Unknown Soldier and of course parties. Definitely, I met many people from almost all the commitments and the experiences we lived there will become unforgettable memories for sure and ACOC made really good job considering the short time in which they had to prepare an

LC Belgrade event for 80 participants.

Organisers’ report After many speculations about organizing of the First Autumn Congress, LC Belgrade recognized the importance of the event and has decided to step up and doit. Even though organizing two Congresses during the same year might seem a little bit over the top, we have managed to do it. Eager to work, even with near deadlines we were giving our best to meet all the needs both from the International Board and the participants. Altogether, there were 42 participants for the official part of the First Autumn Congress who came from thirty-two different country. The core of the event is the improvement of our association which happened throughout General Meetings, LC Hangouts, Training Sessions, EESTEC Game and Improve EESTEC-OST. In each part, all the participants were actively involved in the further development of EESTEC. Considering that these activities were mainly organized in the mornings, the rest of the days were devoted to exploration of Belgrade which consisted of many interesting activities such as city rally, visits to some museums, city tour and many others. Since Belgrade is famous for its nightlife, parties were an unavoidable part of every day. Many participants considered some of them as one of the best in their life. As soon as the official part had ended the IMW began. The essence of it was the celebration of the 16th birthday of LC Belgrade. The party made our participants and the members or the local committee even closer, and was a wonderful ending for the First Autumn Congress. In conclusion, the First Autumn Congress was an incredible journey which has only strengthened EESTEC. We are all incredibly grateful for the opportunity

LC Bucharest

About LC Bucharest Hello, awesome EESTECers! We are in EESTEC for 13 years, since the Congress in Cosenza, which was organized between 9th and 16th April 2003. EESTEC LC Bucharest activates in Politehnica University of Bucharest, thus placing itself in the ideal environment for accomplishing its academic goals. Our mission is to help students build their future. In order to do that, we organize local workshops and conferences and international workshops and exchanges. The events are based on personal and professional development. Our workshops are based on electrical engineering subjects, information technology, renewable energies and embedded technologies. We organize motivational weekends at the end of each workshop. Our first workshop was in 2003 and it became a traditional workshop. It was called "Energy Always a Challenge" and we pride ourselves with 5 great editions. Alongside the technical aspect of the event, last year EESTEC included a social cause into the event, namely MagiCAMP. We also organized two exchanges so far, one called ROSummer Spirit which was held during the summer of 2009 and the second one in the summer of 2015 called EUROtrip. Besides visiting Bucharest, the participants got the chance to visit one of Romania’s most admired medieval towns, Brasov and other stunning mountain resorts in the Southern Carpathians. LC Bucharest is very active locally. We have local events such as contests, soft skills trainings, conferences, charitable parties. The most popular are: EESTEC Olympics and Soft Skills Academy. EESTEC Olympics is a well-known 24 hour programming marathon that we organize in our university. Last year we organised with success the 6th edition as Google was our main partner. Soft Skills Academy is a 5 days soft skills training made for students and so far we

54

Yearbook 2016-2017

LC Bucharest held 3 editions. Each year we organize ICE (Inner Circle of EESTEC), 3 days training made for new members, so that they can acquire the knowledge they need to work in our projects. During that weekend, participants take part in soft skills trainings. The trainings are about body language, team building, project management and they are held by EESTEC trainers of our organization. Our latest international workshop was organised in May 2016 and it was called ’Embedded Minds’. During this workshop the participants had the chance to learn more about embedded systems and automatic control of trains. Experienced lectures from Intel helped them to achieve all the information they needed. Stay tuned for our events that we will organize soon! ;). Greetings from LC Bucharest!

Embedded Minds From May, 8th 2016 to May, 15th 2016 Participants’ report Embedded Minds Marina Vemmou - LC Athens When I got accepted for Embedded Minds and our HR gave me the usual briefing, I was told I couldn’t have made a better choice for my first event. He himself started from an LC Bucharest event, and described the LC as one of the most organized and passionate ones. Anxiety took me over as soon as we landed, as I had no idea how I was expected to meet up with the effort they put into the event. Fortunately, it took only a couple of minutes with the participants to relax. Although we were among the last to arrive, it felt like we’ve been there forever, and bonds quickly started to form. Our welcome-pajama-party was a surprise for me: although we barely knew each other, no one felt constrained in any way, and all of us were talking, joking and dancing as if we were good old friends. LC Bucharest people really made an effort to make us feel welcomed (with a nice personal photo-message for each of us), and I must admit they did a pretty good job. It was just a small taste of what was coming.

Yearbook 2016-2017

55

LC Bucharest The part that worried me the most, the workshop, was also a surprise. I’m used to more theory than practice, and those five days were really a gamechanger for me. Everything was perfectly organized. The workshop theme itself was (at least to my eyes) extremely interesting and well-thought, all local participants were from the start willing to cooperate and discuss ideas, and all necessary materials were there before we even needed them. I even caught myself thinking on how to elaborate on the tasks we were given (even though we didn’t finish them all), which I believe is the main goal of every workshop, give your brain the spark that will ignite new ideas. Though someone would expect us to be tired from our full academic schedule, that wasn’t the case. Bucharest is a beautiful city, full of contrasts between the old and the new, were you’ll find huge parks and lakes next to glass skyscrapers, images that will stay with me forever. The organizers managed to give us a good all-around-Bucharest experience, day and night, accompanied with some of the best photographs I’ve seen (God bless those City Rally tasks!). As we closed up to the IMW, and more people were arriving (Greeks mostly, I think we really took over Bucharest), I was wondering if there really was anything else LC Bucharest could do to make us have a good time. I mean, parties (and pre-parties, and after-parties) were already great, activities too, had they reached their maximum? Luckily for us, of course not. That bus party was probably one of the best I’ve ever attended (and I’m Greek, partying is our specialty), and International Night and Wolves vs Vampires Party scored quite high. The place we stayed was located next to a breathtaking river, with the beauty of the setting literally giving me chills, and our Training Session just wrapped up perfectly an already constructive week. I left the most special part of this event for the end. The people. It may sound over the top, and most will think it’s because this was my first event, but this group of participants and organizers showed me that EESTEC is in the end a very big family. Never before have I felt comfortable around strangers so easily, never before have strangers become close friends so quickly. All locals were doing to please us, and they succeeded. Their unique hospitality and craziness made me feel like home, and they all managed to participate and give their absolute best despite their academic work load and overall exhastion. Within this group I met so many different personalities, discussed so many topics, heard so many languages and came in contact with so many ideas, that I can truly say I came

56

Yearbook 2016-2017

LC Bucharest back a different person. When I came to Bucharest, I had no idea what was coming. And being an overly-meticulous, introverted, non-emotional person, I wasn’t expecting much. But i think this perfectly sums up my whole week: When we were to return, I nearly lost my flight. Those minutes that I was running through the airport, I kept wishing with all my heart that the plane leaves without me. A big thank you for the most memorable and touching week of my life.

Organisers’ report Embedded Minds Board Report Organizing Embedded Minds was such fun. We met some difficulties because of the timing of the event, with all the exams and the Easter. It was one week after Easter, so we had a dead period for offline promoting and we were worried about not getting enough applications from Romanian students. However, we had more applications than we’ve expected and we end up with the most awesome team of participants. For the academic part, we had as trainers engineers from Intel company. The participants had to do some tasks regarding automatic control of trains. For example, control the train with the help of a remote (using IR commands), implement a system which generates sound alerts when the train exceeds the maximum speed allowed in particular areas etc. The non-academic part was full of EESTEC Spirit: karaoke/ board games/ parties every night, fun City Rally in Bucharest, visiting the Palace of Parlament, Laser Tag. One of our planned activities was Bubble Football, but we were informed with one day before that the place where we should have gone had some problems. Overall, everytthing was good with our event and consider we managed to teach and entertain our participants.

International Minds go Wild From May, 13th 2016 to May, 15th 2016 Participants’ report International Minds gone Wild - Participants Report Alen Mujkanovic - LC Zurich This being my first visit to Romania, I wasn’t fully aware what I was getting into. My arrival was a day before the official start of the IMW, but me and a further participant were picked up from the airport by our hosts nonetheless. The ride to the accommodation in the student dorms on campus turned into a spontaneous sightseeing trip through Bucharest and we immediately felt welcomed. We met the Workshop participants and the other newly arrived IMW participants and hit the clubs in Lipscani, the old part of Bucharest and nowadays an exciting entertainment district. I was not disappointed by the Romanian hospitality, outgoingness and dance moves. We also met a few LC Craiova members which happened to be in town. The following day we had a wonderful lunch and afterwards got into the bus which was to take us to Brasov, where the IMW actually took place. The surprise bus-party which was planned for us made the 4-hour trip pass by in a flash. It was especially cool to see that several Alumni also joined in for the trip, which made for interesting conversations that took us all the way back to the founding of LC Bucharest. This is a role model LC that preserves its history and keeps good Alumni connections. In the evening we had dinner, which was crucial to prepare us for the International Night. After a rather short sleep we had a great time in Aventura Park, climbing through trees, zip-lining across lakes, bungee-jumping and generally pushing us to our physical limits. Due to bad weather, our sightseeing trip to the historic center of Brasov sadly had to be cancelled. We had a soft-skills training in the evening, which also got a tad emotional since the farewell party was soon to follow. We had a farewell ceremony and then started the Vampires vs. Werewolves Party with a small and fun ritual which set the mood for the night. The last day we packed up and rode back to Bucharest, mostly sleeping from exhaustion. We had a short stop at Bran castle, where Vlad the Impaler

LC Bucharest resided in the past and which served as inspiration for the legend of Dracula. The IMW was over, but several participants stayed longer in order to do more sightseeing in Bucharest, eat traditional Romanian food, like the legendary Mici <3 The organizers were able to host us all for free even after the event and even took valuable study time during their exam session to stay with us! Thank you LC Bucharest for everything, multumesc! Regards from a very thankful EESTECer, Alen

Organisers’ report International Minds Go Wild Board Report Organizing "International Minds Go Wild" IMW brought us delights from 12 (J)LCs for the International Night and everything was amazing. The next day we went to Aventura Park in Brasov (one of the wild parts of our event). There we climbed in trees, a zipline transported us across a lake and so on. There was a sight-seeing planned for Brasov, but we skipped it because of the rainny weather. On Saturday night, our themed party was Vampires vs Werewolves. Most of the drinks were red, of course, but one was a little bit different because it was "blood" in a syringe. We realised how good and wild was the party when we tried to wake up our participants. It took us almost two hours. We also had an academic part. It was supposed to be on Sunday morning, but we moved it on Saturday evening because of the rain. Two trainers from T4T, Ana-Maria Mironica (LC Bucharest) and Mihailo-Michael Tosic (JLC Karlsruhe) delivered an awesome training about time management. Overall, it was a pleasure for us to organise this event because the participants were so nice and everything was fine. Although we were the organisers, we also have the post-event depression now.

LC Budapest

About LC Budapest MAVE (Electrical Engineering Students’ Hungarian Association) EESTEC LC Budapest was founded in 1986 with the aim of broadening the knowledge and horizons of engineering students. Our association has been a founding member of EESTEC. At the beginning our non-profit student organization arranged shortterm exchange programmes for foreign students in Hungary. Since then our profile has changed fundamentally, it is difficult to list all of our activities and events: International events: -Challenge 24 Exchange -Ethical Hacking workshop -Constant presence on other events Not EESTEC-related events: -Challenge24 - International 24-hour Programming Contest (since 2000) -BeeSmarter - 24-hour Mobile Programmer and App Designer Team Contest (since 2013) -Seminar and lab courses (SAP, GE, etc.) Motivational events and trainings With recent years’ high-profile events our local reputation has grown as well, permitting us to be supported by not only the best academic professionals, but by members of the market sector, professionally, financially and with ideas. Our principles are unchanged though: LC Budapest is determined to offer unique experience to young people, no matter if it is a summer rowing trip, a 24 hours programming competition or an international conference. But all mentioned above would not worth anything if the organization didn’t remain a community of friends. Being a member of LC Budapest comes not only

Challenge24 From June, 22nd 2016 to June, 27th 2016 Participants’ report As a task writer we challenged the difficulties connected to the task creations. The main problem was to satisfy the imagination of the participants. Atmosphere and dedication of the participants was the greatest reward. - Michal‚ Suwala, LC Krakow I had an opportunity to help the organizing team of Challenge24 in 2016. Turns out that perceiving an IT event from a perspective of an organizer is much different than taking part in it! Creating tasks for the participants as well as helping them throughout the event was a fresh and exciting experience for me. Difficult - but cool! And of course, LC Budapest is a group of really awesome and kind people, who will take the best possible care of you and won’t leave you bored. Totally recommend! - Antek Grzanka, LC Krakow

Organisers’ report LC Budapest organised the Challenge24 international programing contest for the 16th time in 2016. This year meant great changes in the life of the competition as we had task writers from all over Europe. The main purpose of this event was to introduce the task writing option for the EESTEC family. Here you can challenge the best programmers around the world from Germany to China and the USA. We had many options for participants, as this wasn’t a regular event. We had applications only for the Task writer option meaning that participants had to bring their self-developed problem sets to the competition. They stayed in the hotel with contestants but had social program in Budapest beforehand. We explored the beauties of Budapest together during the week, and finished calibration of the rating system as well.

LC Budapest During the 24 hours of the contest, task writer participants provided information on some questions to contestants and had fun on the premises. As organisers of the whole event, LC Budapest can confirm that we received great help from our task writers and would like to express our thanks for you.

LC Craiova

About LC Craiova LC Craiova is a member of the EESTEC family since 2006 and has organized numerous workshops and has involved itself heavily in the local student life. In the spring of 2013 EESTEC LC Craiova hosted a web programming workshop based on well-known easy-to-use Python from 24th to 30th of March 2013. Its aim was to teach the 13 participants gathered in our city from no more and no less than five countries the most simple and yet powerful scripting and programming language out there in order to create a working cloud application. The participants were greeted in a pure traditional Romanian style we all met and became friends, thus predicting the good collaboration days that were to come as well as the best parties we attended in a while. Besides the learning part, Pythonia also meant parties in the city’s clubs and pubs, preceded by billiards and bowling, a viewing of a selection of best all time commercials, a beer drinking contest where the winner was awarded with, what else, a python toy and a trip to an old well-known nearby wine cellar where we all had the occasion to see the wine manufacturing process and got to taste the wine obtained. Pythonia meant the opportunity to learn Python and to meet new people and their culture. At the end a working Twitter-like application has come to life and new friendships were born. The big EESTEC family has added to the record a new fruitful experience which the members that participated in and made it possible will surely never forget and hope to live again soon. A lot of time has passed since our last event(Pythonia), but now we are prepared with new forces and new ideeas, and we are going to host a new event soon. During the past 2 years we organised a lot of local events one more sucsesful than the other. One of the great events that we would like to mention is "How to: Electronics", an event that helped a lot of students improve their electronical skills and learn how to use Protheus.

About LC Delft LC Delft goes by many names. As the Electrotechnische Vereeniging, it is the oldest electrical engineering student society in Europe. As LC Delft, it is one of the founding members of EESTEC. The history of EESTEC can be unclear at times, but there’s one thing that’s for sure; Delft was there! Nowadays, we still organise great workshops every year and send our members (instantly recognisable by their ties) across Europe for EESTEC events.

LC East Sarajevo

About LC East Sarajevo Our local committee, LC East Sarajevo, based at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in East Sarajevo, bacame a part of EESTEC in 2004. at the Congress in Belgrade, after the elementary conditions for establishment were granted. The committee had 15 members. That’s when we earned a status of Observer. A year after that, after we organized the first international event «Jahorina Winter Exchange 2005», we were promoted to Local Committee. That was in Madrid, 2005. In following years we organised several events and welcomed our participants at the olympic beauty of Jahorina. We used to traditionally organize our event in March. The name of our project was Jahorina Spring Break. During the workshop we hosted in avarage about 20 participants. Main event of the workshop is the scientific conference "Infotech", which at the time maintained on our Olympic Mountain Jahorina. Last year we took a break of international activities and we were focused more on local activities and recruiting new members. After JSB 2015 and our 10th birthday we decided to break tradition and to organize our brand new exchange called "Mountain Mania 2017". Concept is similar to JSB but with more free time and fun. Exchange will take place from 27th March to 2nd April. Two last days of our exchange, 31st March1st April 2017, IMW "12 nICE Ages" will take place on mountain Jahorina and we are expecting no less then 100 people to come and celebrate our 12th birthday

LC Gliwice

About LC Gliwice LC Gliwice has been founded in 2013, but even though we’re very young and still learning and settling the EESTEC name on the local level, some of our individuals have become well-known across EESTEC Local Committees thanks to their unique personality, strong motivation and one of its kind sense of humor. Being small doesn’t mean being weak, Unity, Consistency, Trust and Friendship, those attributes combined with optimistic attitude and dream of constantly hungry young hearts combine into who we really are, a family. Because in order to succeed, you must always stay hungry, this is what we believe in, and this is what we do. In our short career we’ve organized 3 workshops: - flight simulator workshop called "Simple As That", - two programming workshops "The Meaning of Python" and "Polish Up Your Java". All of our workshops were organized both for EESTEC participants and local students, who applied for the workshops. Apart from workshops, we organize Language Exchange Courses locally for interested students from both our own and other Universities as well as for Erasmus students, to create bonds between them and us. We will continue the hard work of our "ancestors" and use it to grow on the local level (i.e. cooperation with different student’s organizations, EESTech Challenge initiative, Soft Skill Academy and so on). Stay Positive & Hungry!

Polish Up Your JAVA From May, 8th 2016 to May, 15th 2016 Participants’ report Hi guys! First of all thank you soooo much for all the effort you put into making this week so incredible for us. I appreciate it so much because not only did I have fun and some unforgettable memories but also because it gives me motivation to give more to EESTEC and engage even more in the work in my LC. I want to give you HUGEEE thumbs up for the choice of activities - Jump World, the brewery, Guido, the Parade - oh so awesome! The schedule was really tight. Like Thursday - City Rally, the Parade and a theme party in Katowice... When it comes to food - it was delicious! Lunch was my favorite! Oh, not to forget the City Rally. You had some really interesting and fun ideas, and I was really keen on doing them all, because they were...well, INGENIOUS! I enjoyed my stay sooo much, and the people I met were just amazing! Everyone was so unique in their own way and really made the atmosphere in this workshop :D I know the others feel the same way because I have talked to them to make sure this feedback is not just my subjective view of this week. We loved every minute of our stay with LC Gliwice and will definitely come back again in future for some IGRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE AND MISS YOU ALL!!! Tamara <3

Organisers’ report Our workshop "Polish Up Your Java" took place between May 8th and 15th, 2016. Its theme was the use of Java programming language and create simple applications. We had the pleasure to host 10 international participants and 20 local students, ranging from amateurs to enthusiasts of the C programming language. The workshop consisted of an academic part as well as sightseeing and entertainment.

LC Gliwice During academic part, students had the opportunity to master their programming skills and get some advice from a qualified employee and respected teacher, Mr. Tomasz Jastrzab. Teaching consisted of a total of 15 hours spent in front of the monitors, but this did not mean any health complications to our participants, as later they had the opportunity to actively spend time together with our LC’s members, exploring various venues both in Gliwice (pubs, the "room escape" or the sports center). They also had enjoyed two trips past Gliwice’s borderline, which included visiting a brewery and a coal mine. There were outdoor events as well. Workshop’s date was specifically chosen so that our guests have the opportunity to see how the students of our university celebrate sport’s days in Gliwice, take part in the student rally, sports activities and concerts in the open air.

Mindfaction From March, 19th 2016 to March, 25th 2016 Participants’ report In the description of the event organizers promised that Mindfaction would blow our minds. What can I say, LC Istanbul keeps their promises! This workshop certainly went beyond my highest expectations - it was a week full of unforgettable memories, new friendships and an expression of what EESTEC spirit really means. I came to Istanbul one day before start of the workshop and since the beginning I had a pleasure to experience genuine Turkish hospitality and cuisine. I found out how real kebap should taste and look like - it’s so different to Polish kebab :D The first day of the event started with terrorist attack in the main street of Istanbul - it was surprising and sad situation for all of us, but thanks to OC’s exceptional organising skills we felt safe and secure the whole time. We all gathered in the ITU campus to officially start the event and get to know each other thanks to various ice breaking games. On the next day LC Istanbul prepared for

LC Istanbul us an unusual surprise: one of the founders of LC Istanbul, Chairman of International Board and one of the first EESTEC trainers visited us and shared with participants his amazing, "ancient" stories. It was truly inspiring! Right after that we had a chance to participate in Online Communication Training delivered by brand new EESTEC trainer and chairwoman of LC Istanbul - extraordinary Burcu <3 It was a successful day for me - my team won a Campus Rally and we managed to steal LC Istanbul flag! We could celebrate our accomplishments in the evening during Turkish night - we were eating traditional food, dancing and drinking Raki. On Monday academic part of the workshop kicked off - during the week we had a Creative Thinking session, a presentation about artificial intelligence and also one more EESTEC training about the power of feedback. The most fun part was a gaming session - we were using our brains to the limits trying to come up with the best strategies to win. After a practical games, the theoretical lecture about game theory started. The lecturer explained us basic rules of games we were playing before - it was astonishing! Apart from lectures, we have plenty of time to explore the city and Turkish culture as well. We joined the forces with Promo EESTEC participants and started sightseeing from Sapphire, the highest building in the city - the view was breathtaking. Then we visited the most remarkable monuments of Istanbul as Galata Tower, Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Dolmabahce Palace and we were bargaining with local sellers on Grand Bazaar. The boat trip through the Bosphorus Strait enabled us to enjoy the European and Asian parts of the city. After all these adventure days, there were some marvellous theme parties waiting for us in nights: Satisfaction/Mindfacion Party, Marvel and DC karaoke night, Nargile + Pyjama Party and of course the essence of the event: International Night - some super memories were made and forgotten during those crazy nights XD Mindfaction workshop was about to end and we had to say goodbye to some of our friends but it still wasn’t over! The rest of us packed our stuff and left to the next adventure: Into the Wild IMW with LC Istanbul members :P

I believe that this week in Istanbul was one of the best in my life and I’m looking forward to see all the people I met once again. I’m sure that we all would agree that the simplest way to explain the awesomeness of this event is the fact that LCIstanbulRocks!

In the light of this lectures, they played Game Theory games and used their newly learned skills. Because of security problems, unfortenately LC Istanbul changed the some parts of event such as City Rally. Participants did Campus Rally which is a kind of City Rally simulation in the biggest campus of Istanbul Technical University. Promo EESTEC From March, 19th 2016 to March, 25th 2016 Participants’ report Last month I had the opportunity to take part in Promo EESTEC, first PR based operational event organised in EESTEC. And because, Istanbul was one of the cities that I really wanted to visit, I can truly say that this event was a double win for me. First days of the event were focused on the accumulation of knowledge in fields as PR, marketing, online communication, creative thinking and video editing. I would rate the "Online communication" training as the most efficient one, because it was very well delivered and it engaged the participants in a very active participation, helping us gain a lot of knowledge on this topic. Also, the "Creative Thinking" training made us realize that we are all creative persons, in our manner, and that we can easily stimulate our creativity. Last day was, in my opinion, the most productive one, because we had the opportunity to apply the knowledge we acquired during trainings by working on EESTEC projects. We were divided into teams and we had to develop PR strategies for EESTEC. We discussed about both the ways in which we can promote our association and how we can promote the projects developed by EESTEC at the International level. I think that these working sessions were very efficient, because each of the participants came up with a lot of creative ideas on how we can improve the image of EESTEC and how we can raise the awareness about our association. A lot of brainstorming and a lot of ideas that will hopefully be implemented in the future. Regarding the social activities, I can only say that LC Istanbul surprised us everyday with something different. In the first day, I’ve experienced something different: Campus Rally. We had to search the most important tourist attractions from Istanbul...in their university campus! That was a great challenge and we had a lot of fun! After the campus rally, a crazy turkish night was waiting for us: traditional food, traditional music, and a lot of turkish passion. What was next? The most breathtaking experience: with 248 meters of greatness and supremacy , Sapphire Tower offerred us an amazing view over beautiful Istanbul. Thousands of lights, an amazing view and few words that can describe the feeling. The boat trip is by far my favourite activity. Bosphorus is amazing, it offers you the possi-

LC Istanbul bility to be between two continents at the same time and it gives you the opportunity to admire the beautiful architecture of Istanbul. The visit at the Dolmabahce palace only confirmed us that the stories we’ve heard about turkish sultans were true. I would describe the parties exactly how I would describe people from LC Istanbul: crazy and amazing. Every night a different place, every night a different theme for the party, every night a reason to have fun! Amazing by day, amazing by night, that’s how Istanbul is. After one amazing week, I left Istanbul with a lot of beautiful memories, many bonded friendships with amazing LC Istanbul people, a lot of useful PR knowledge that I intend to apply at locallevel and also with an incredible desire to go back there someday. And my EESTEC spirit tells me that one day, I will fulfill my desire. LCIstanbulRocks

Organisers’ report EESTEC’s new operational event Promo EESTEC was organised by LC Istanbul. For the first time, participants learnt how effective they would be in specially PR and other teams. During this event, participants had lectures about Online Communication, Social Media Marketing, Video Editing, Creative Thinking and Content Marketing. After that, on the management of PR Coordinator Cemile Besirova they split into groups and built strategies for EESTEC on their working sessions. For EESTEC future, they used their new skills which they learnt in lectures, to add something new. Unfortunately, LC Istanbul had to change some traditional rituals for this event, because of security problems. Participants did campus rally instead of city rally and they saw how big a campus LC Istanbul has. And then, they had a chance to visit Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Galata Tower, Halic Bridge and to shop in

LC Istanbul Grand Bazaar. To see amazing Turkish culture, in the full of fun Turkish Night they tasted Turkish foods and raki in company with Darbuka’s rhytm and seascape. Parties which all showed participants how crazy LC Istanbul is, organised again LC Istanbul. Participants of both Mindfaction and Promo EESTEC became together and had fun together in this unforgettable parties like Pyjama, Satisfaction and Marvel vs DC. And also, participants showed their singing abilities on Karaoke Night.

10th Year IMW: Into The Wild From March, 25th 2016 to March, 27th 2016 Participants’ report Hello EESTECers, My name is Diana, I am a student of Computer science at Faculty of Automation, Computers and Electronics in Craiova, and I joined EESTEC LC Craiova in November 2015. Turkey is one of the most amazing countries I can think of. I had the opportunity to apply for the "Into The Wild" event and therefore, I went to Istanbul. In other words, my dream came true. Of all the field trips I have been on, my trip to Istanbul was the most exciting one. EESTEC LC Istanbul is an awesome committee. I was involved in plenty of extracurricular activities. Being able to use the Turkish language that I had learned completely on my own was extremely rewarding, especially when the people not only understood what you were saying but also replied back to you in Turkish. I had also picked up a lot more Turkish while being there just from talking to the people which had helped me not only practice my Turkish, but also improve it greatly. The IMW was an amazing experience and I am glad that I had the opportunity to go. I made a lot of new friends and some unforgettable memories.

Organisers’ report Between 25-27th of March, LC Istanbul organised their first IMW to celebrate their 10th year. After two events: Promo EESTEC and Mindfaction, 10th Year IMW: Into the Wild got chilled participants and members. However, Wheater was not able to swim, crazy EESTECers swam and enjoy on the seaside. They went to Go-Kart and race and showed who is faster! Even It was raining, they played some mental and physical games to raise their EESTEC Spirit. Turkish classical BBQ: Mangal was delicious and fed EESTECers. Whole participants felt really wild life. At nights, with lots of drinks EESTECers gone wild and they had (un)forgettable experiences. And every bungallows became a after party cabin. Bodies were chilled but brains got damaged.

V for Reality From November, 27th 2016 to December, 4th 2016 Participants’ report The workshop in general was great. The topic was really good, virtual reality is currently one of the top departments in the IT industry, it brings a lot of money and a lot of experience, and it’s fun. So, from this workshop I found out the basics with what to start if I ever plan to start working with VR. I’m very grateful for this to LC Istanbul since I’m in the IT industry and I have an idea which is somehow connected with VR. Do I really need to talk about Istanbul? That’s one of the best and most historical cities in the world, so much history, so much places, so much people. Istanbul has always been one of the most visited cities. In Istanbul, you can find everything, it connects two continents Europe and Asia, you can find a mix from the secular to modern, western to Balkan, catholic and orthodox to Islamic, you can hear so many languages and you start to wonder are you really in Turkey. Istanbul is so old but so modern. It has different spirit, no matter how much is populated it is it doesn’t give you a reason not to love it. Some things cannot be described, it’s so good and amazing that you have to experience it. I’ll just say when in Istanbul... The lectures were nice. Our instructor Ahmet was preety good in what he was doing. He really has experience in Unity and game development. I’m satisfied in general i what we’ve achieved in those 6 days. I learned how fast I can create a simple 3D game and run it on a GearVR equipment. I also learned that besides what you are studying at the University thanks to the Internet you can become expert in everything if you want to which is actually Ahmet’s case. Our schedule was so intense that we barely had time to sleep. The organizers really put a great effort to make us see as much as possible of Istanbul and their university life. Great job, guys. Loved it, sleep can always be restored, experiences cannot. I really like every second spent over there. Ah, parties in Istanbul. The Turks are so great in organizing parties that that’s unbelievable. We had a great time, especially on the International night as well as the Turkish night. I also liked very much the Lip Sync party where we had a chance to show ourselves how we sing funny songs in front of people and then

100

Yearbook 2016-2017

LC Istanbul went to a karaoke bar and tried to sing really hard songs for singing and gain points. Really nice idea. I didn’t like the Farewell party not because it was not good, it was perfect, we signed to each other shirts, I didn’t like it because it was the last one, we had to leave the next day. LC Istanbul members are great, so many of them were involved in the event organization. I met so many of them, they were so interested and happy to be our organizers. We had a lot of fun, lots of talks. Very lovely people. I’m not very much in EESTEC, but for now one of the the best LC’s. We were 9 participants, me and Emilija from my LC, Dafni from LC Patras, Kostas and Maria from LC Xanthi, Giannis from LC Athens, Marko from LC Novi Sad, Marija from LC Nis and Julian from LC Munich. They are all great people and during the event we became friends and will continue to be. They are so amazing and fun people, you just have to enjoy when hanging around with them. We promised each other that we’ll make a reunion as soon as possible and laugh again about what we did at the event. Love them all. At the end, I’d just like to say LC ISTANBUL ROCKS!!! Damjan Miloshevski, participant

Organisers’ report V for Reality was held on between 27th November and 4th December. Its topic was Virtual Reality and we aimed to show our participants new features of the technology, provided them to try on some VR glasses. However, our first aim was to teach them how to create a virtual world by coding. End of the workshop, our participants had their project done. The workshop classrooms were at Istanbul Technical University, Electrical-Electronics Faculty. We planned, and delivered fortunately 15 hours

LC Istanbul of project session and 3 hours of presentation about VR. The number of participants were 10. However, one of our participants couldn’t get visa in time. It was one of the least number of participants attended an event in Istanbul. The accommodation was provided in the center of Istanbul, Taksim. They stayed for 3 or 4 people rooms, bathroom at every floor (1 floor had 3 rooms). They had 3 meals, which are breakfast at the hostel, lunch and dinner at the faculty. In addition, lunch and dinner were always hot dish. The parties were unstable. For example there were only 30 people at some parties, however; we had 70 people at Turkish night, 140 people at International night. One thing was stable, everyone who came to the parties were sooo satisfied with joy and fun.

LC Izmir

About LC Izmir LC Izmir is one of the four LCs in Turkey and the newest one. Our first contact with EESTEC is dates back to 2009. Our first workshop "Don’t hate it just do it " was organised between the dates 5-11.09.2011 and than we get LC status. After that we organised "Brain Trainer" with ESTIEM (Local Group Izmir) between the dates 1-7.12.2013 . Also last summer we organised "Rolling into deep" in Foca/Izmir. LC Izmir located within the Engineering Faculty of Dokuz Eylul University. There are 9 universities in Izmir and we have some other members from those universities. We’re growing day by day and keep spreading the spirit of EESTEC. :)

Win’ewYear From December, 23rd 2016 to December, 25th 2016 Participants’ report Izmir is one of the most beautiful city in Turkey. We went there one day earlier and their members and organizers showed their great hospitality to us.The event took place in Sirince which is a small and cozy village. We got there by bus and the trip was so fun.Our accomodation was placed in a hotel which was comfortable and had a unique historical atmosphere. The food provided by OC was satisfying.Since Sirince is a famous place with it’s specific wines,we tasted lots of different types of wines but was delicious in common.

LC Izmir The event started with ice-breaking games that needs to be improved some and we were not sufficient to break the ices.Anyway, sightseeing was wonderful. We visited Mathematic Village and Ephesus. These trips were amazing and satisfying. At that night we had a crazy party. We loved their music taste. Thanks to LC Izmir! This IMW was a great opportunity to take a break of our exams and have a great time together.Although, all the effort they’ve spent on the event they still have to gain some experience and I believe that the following event will make this possible.

Organisers’ report The 2nd IMW of LC Izmir was again a magnificent weekend. We were happy due to number of participants from Greece and Turkey. Our IMW consisted of three days.In general, first day was about arrivals and then international night, second day was about historical tours and our specific wine party, and the last day was about hiking to King Temple then departures. Naturally,we started with international night. The International Night was a great success,a perfect ending for the first night,in our opinion. We partied until the sunrise and had lots of fun. Second day, after having a very short sleep, the program continued with historical Ephesus tour and local wine house. After the dinner,we started with Icebreaking games and wine party right after. Last day,we visited King Temple after a grueling hiking, placed EESTEC flag onto top. To sum up,apart from some issues we had about organization, that are quite common,we can say that the participants were satisfied and us too! A week full of memories, and that of course we will remember forever!

LC Karlsruhe

About LC Karlsruhe EESTEC LC Karlsruhe is consisted of a group of highly motivated students always ready to make something special in Karlsruhe. As of February 2017, we number 151 members. We have already done our first international workshop "Electrify: Mobility of Tomorrow" with our IMW "International Motivation of Tomorrow". It was a huge success and made us even more motivated. At the moment we are organizing some smaller local projects with companies like Rohde &Schwarz and Porsche. Our first "Skill Academy - more than engineering" in May will offer Karlsruhes’ students to excel. Stay tuned which international event is coming next! The city of Karlsruhe is the second-largest city in the state of Baden-Wurttemberg, in southwest Germany, near the Franco-German border. The city is one of the warmest and sunniest in Germany. It was planned with the palace tower (Schloss) at the center and 32 streets radiating out from it like the spokes of a wheel, or the ribs of a folding fan, so that one nickname for Karlsruhe in German is the "fan city" (Facherstadt). Our group is seated at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). KIT is one of the largest and most prestigious research and education institutions in Germany known for the high quality of research work around the world. In the 2011 performance ranking of scientific papers, Karlsruhe ranked first in Germany and among the top ten universities in Europe in engineering and natural sciences. Karl Benz studied mechanical engineering at this University and it was here that Heinrich Hertz proved the existence of electromagnetic waves in the late 1880s.

International Motivation of Tomorrow From June, 10th 2016 to June, 12th 2016 Participants’ report I was very excited when I went to Karlsruhe, to join the IMW after the electrify workshop in Summer 2016, as it was my first EESTEC event. The weather was amazing for a german summer, so we spent the first afternoon in the gardens around the Karlsruhe palace, waiting for the other participants to arrive. The same evening the international night was organized and I must assume, having more EESTEC-experience now, it has been awesome. On Saturday the pools and water-slides of the "Europabad" waited for us and we had a very good mix of fun- and relaxing time as well as a nice evening in Karlsruhe. Although Sunday was departure day, the Bavarian breakfast with "Weiswurst, Brezeln, susem Senf und Weisbier", was a perfect way to wake up and have a few more hours of EESTEC spirit. Although I was very tired arriving at home, I had wished for the following Monday to be an IMW day too. It has been a great first event to join. Adrien, LC Aachen

Organisers’ report The weekend (10th to 12th June) after the Electrify Workshop was joined by an additional 18 participants of the IMW. The International Night on Friday was unforgettable and took place in the largest self-managed student dorm in Germany. The next day we had bad weather but improvised by taking the participants to a swimming pool instead of the lake. We spent the evening together at a student’s pub and went to a party at our university. The last day started with a typical Bavarian breakfast and all participants who didn’t have to leave too early watched the first football match of Germany at the European Championship with the whole EESTEC Team of JLC Karlsruhe.

Electrify: Mobility of Tomorrow From June, 6th 2016 to June, 12th 2016 Participants’ report Oh, wonderful JLC Karlsruhe. Where shall we begin? Maybe we should first mention the amazing academic part of our workshop? Great lecturers, lots of useful information, outstanding faculty equipment and facilities. A week full of surprise, from the awesome E-mobility lecture, Tesla S test drive, Soft Skills training, regenerative braking and battery systems lab visit to the KaRaceing track practice. They even took us to a whole another city, Stuttgart, just to show us the Mercedes-Benz Museum! Or, we can start with all the fun parties we attended? The Red EESTEC party, the International night, the German night, the Agostea club night. So many nights with an exceptional atmosphere and some great vibes. & Beer, beer, beer! Also, we may touch on the brilliant City rally, Running dinner or Hoepfner brewery visit. Most of these things I have done and seen for the first time in my life and oh boy did they leave a good impression on me! The organizers took us to the city of Esslingen. So we visited three cities in only one workshop! Not only were we introduced to every interesting aspect of student life at KIT, but we also got a good glaze of the German culture and famous city sights. BadenWurttemberg sure is one of the sunniest and prettiest regions I’ve ever travelled to. It doesn’t really matter which one of these things we bring up first because it was all of them together that made my life incredible for the past week. The hospitality and effort of our hosts were tremendous. Clearly, they wanted to show us everything that excites them the most in this city and that has yielded some pretty intense schedule and a little bit of fatigue between us participants. Nevertheless, the general mood was outstanding and I don’t think it’s just because this is my first workshop. In my opinion, should I attend any future workshops, they will have a tough job to outreach this one! Dejana Krsmanovic, LC East Sarajevo

LC Karlsruhe

Organisers’ report Most of the participants arrived on Monday the 6th of June and were welcomed with a casual grill night in the courtyard of the Institute of Electrical Engineering (ETI). The first day of the academic schedule started with a presentation by Selina, the VC about EESTEC in Karlsruhe and a motivational speech by Michael, the Chairperson in the main hall of the Presidency building at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. They then enjoyed a lecture from one of the most-renown expert on E-Mobility in Germany following visits to the various institutes of the KIT dealing with everything about electric vehicles, from electric motors and power electronics, to batteries and fast charging. The participants had a chance to ride in a Tesla, accelerating to 100km/h in less than 3 seconds! They also spent a morning with the KaRaceIng Formula Student Team and had a trip to the Mercedes Museum in Stuttgart. The cultural program was plentiful as well, starting with a causal Karaoke night in one of the most famous bars. The next evening was German Night representing the German cuisine in the best possible way. On Thursday we have the one and only karlsruherunningdinner. The participants and organizers were split into pairs of two and enjoyed a dinner in three parts, in three different apartments, meeting and dining with in total 12 people! We also had a trip to Esslingen, a historic city, just outside of Stuttgart. The most amazing part of the organization of this event was the teamwork that the members of JLC Karlsruhe displayed. We had 17 organizers and more than 10 helpers, most of which were partying with the participants every single night. The organizers did their part well and responsible and we didn’t have problem with them not showing up or not fulfilling their tasks. We are happy to have had such a team and are looking forward to the bright future of EESTEC JLC Karlsruhe. Mihailo-Michael Tosic & Selina Eckel

LC Krakow

About LC Krakow LC Krakow, first Local Committee of EESTEC in Poland, is a students’ organization at AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow. We are working mostly with Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Automatics, Computer Science and Biomedical Engineering and Faculty of Computer Science, Electronics and Telecommunications. LC Krakow is dated back to 1998. At the beginning we were part of the Science Club of Electronics, but in 2007 we separated and became independent students’ organization, registered in 2009. EESTEC is making us have more motivation, more will to get up every day (sometimes early in the morning) and do more than the day before. Our EESTECers get motivation through different trainings, part of them during Motivational Weekends. There we have opportunity to get to know each other better, and find ourselves to act in EESTEC with more engagement and power. We make a very cheerful team, composed of many people always willing to contribute and work really hard towards our projects success. Our committee is organizing both international and local events. Last year on local level we had our 7th editions of KrakYourNet and Soft Skills Academy and 3rd edition of Academic Projects Fair. Last KYN was five days of technical workshops and lectures that focus on web security, web development and Internet of Things. SSA in Krakow is a week of trainings devoted to perfect communication and interpersonal skills which are widely desired both in and outside the workplace. Academic Projects Fair is where students, companies and university professors can exchange ideas and offers, which will help students in developing their academic ideas and projects. As to international events we have organized the GoldenEve IMW. We gathered together with 130 EESTECers for 4 days of New Year’s Eve celebration in

LC Krakow the James Bond style. Only a month later we had a pleasure to host International Board in Krakow for their Winter Board Meeting. This year we have even more events planned! Starting with our magical international workshop Web Platform 9 which is going to change Krakow into the Hogwarts for one week and young, talented EESTECers into professional Web Wizards. Right after that it’s time for our very first 24h hackathon that combines electronics and programming skills: Hacknarok - it’s gonna be quite a battle! March will end with first in the history EESTech Challenge local round in Krakow. We have already started preparations for 4th edition of Academic Projects Fair and 5th edition of our Advanced Skills Workshop made in cooperation with ABB Corporate Research Centre located in Krakow - "Smart Energy for a Better World". Stay tuned! LC Krakow explores and develops our own leadership potential and introduces students to the corporate world. It is the most important that our goal is not only to work but also to have a great deal of joy together. Our members are full of new creative ideas and ready for new challenges and it is sure that this potential will be used in the best way possible!

IMW GoldenEve From December, 29th 2016 to January, 1st 2017 Participants’ report Dear Agents of EESTEC, I’m Vadim Nagornov, Codename: 0815, Agent of LC Hamburg. I had the honour of being selected for Mission "GoldenEve", which took place in Wegierska Gorka from 29th December 2016 until 1stJanuary 2017. Packed with EESTEC Spirit, the target of killing boredom and with the weapon of Jaggermeister, I arrived in Krakow two days earlier to start researching the best way to fulfil my mission. On arrival I immediately realised that this task is going to be the most enjoyable of my EESTEC career so far. After arriving at our target destination each agent was given personally designed tasks. These tasks were having different priorities, in order to make sure that the agents get to know each other a

LC Krakow little more than they expected. 29thDecember’s mission was to raise awareness about our local agencies weapons. After successfully accomplishing that contract, the next day agents were divided into two groups: those whose task was to get familiar with local contractgiver Zywiec and those whose task was to get familiar how to escape dangerous explosions in the mountains. Back at headquarter we gathered to share our experiences and celebrated our achievements. The next day agents were divided into new agencies, in order to compete with each other. First competition was focusing on our knowledge. We were tested upon who knows most about the most famous and inspiring agent of all. Bond. James Bond. After that each agency selected one representative who had the mission to win the agents’ favourite game: Texas Hold’em Poker. This was a test of our manipulation and persuasion skills, as well as our mathematical genius. Moving on, we all got dressed up formally and focused on achieving the main mission of the whole event: Celebrating New Year’s Eve together! The hosting agency did an extraordinary job in suiting us the best possible environment for this challenge and I believe every participating agent would agree that we fulfilled the mission. Beloved agents of EESTEC who were not with us, I feel for you and I pray for you to get the possibility to experience LC Krakow’s training camp ever in your life. 0815 out.

Organisers’ report This year LC Krakow made an IMW A.K.A. "GoldenEve" to spend together with 126 from 22 LC’s EESTEC’ers from all around Europe. Some of them came 3 days before actual event, some of them left Krakow 3 days after so they had even more time for integration with one another and the people from LC Krakow. The actual event took place between 29.12.2016 and 01.01.2017 in Wegierska Gorka. We arrived for a dinner where participants were able to try a polish speciality called "pierogi" and after which the International Night with a "Crazy hat" theme began. During the next day, EESTECers were able to choose between going to a ski slope, visiting the nearby town Zywiec with it’s famous brewery or take their time in the hotel to gather some strength before upcoming nights. In

118

LC Krakow the evening there was a campfire which was preceded by a sleigh ride. After all those attractions, everybody spent the following night partying together. The day before New Year" Eve after breakfast participants were competing in a quiz about the famous James Bond agent. Representatives of every secret agency group were competing in a big poker encounter. Then everybody had some time to prepare for the final party themed "Casino Royal" during which we celebrated the beginning of the 2017 year. The last day, after breakfast and packing, we left W3gierska Gorka heading to Krakow to cap the event with a group EESTEC haka.

About LC Lille Our committee was promoted officially as an LC in 2012. Since then, we worked on promoting EESTEC in our engineering school Polytech Lille. First thing you need to know about us: LC Lille is one of the various students’ council associations not an independent entity. This year, we first focused on getting more members and strengthening the commitment. Currently, we are about 20 and we made EESTEC shine even brighter through events we organized in our school. One of the most important one was "the international culture day". We presented EESTEC through several materials such as pictures, some typical European meals, and dancing on Magnifico. Also, thanks to members who travelled, we had the opportunity to help some countries present their culture. This year we organized with LC Aachen the IMW Aixtreme 3 for 30. The last day was in Lille and our member higly appreciated this day with the participants. Participants on their side really liked discovering the french culture and gastronomy. LC Lisbon

About LC Lisbon EESTEC LC Lisbon was officially founded in 2006 and became an LC during the congress in Athens, in 2010. Our members come from 3 different universities: Universidade de Lisboa (IST/UL), Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FCT/UNL) and Instituto Universitario de Lisboa (ISCTE-IUL). Historically, LC Lisbon was founded by students from IST but in order for this local committee to become even greater, it became a joint venture of 3 universities. In June 2014, we created a partnership with IEEE-IST, which lasted 1 year. Throughout the year, we gathered in some local activities such as EESTEC Hour and EESTEC Dinner, where we were able to motivate each other and enjoy a good meal. In the end of November, another EESTEC dinner was held, with 10 LC Lisbon members and the chairman of Observer Aveiro. In the meanwhile, we created some promotional material, such as posters and flyers. We also motivated and supported students from Aveiro, a city of Portugal, and they became officially an EESTEC Observer. Between 30th of April and 7th of May, 2015, an international engineering workshop was organized by us, with 12 participants, which main topics were Arduino and Drones. In the beginning of June 2015, another EESTEC Hour was held. Later that month, a new board was elected and we got a new office at Instituto Superior Tecnico (IST, Campus Alameda), where the academic part of our workshop took place. We are about 20 members, of which 10 are active. Greetings from Lisbon, LC Lisbon

LC Ljubljana

About LC Ljubljana LC Ljubljana, one of the founding LCs of EESTEC, has been active for more than 30 years, and since then our members have been setting high standards with their enthusiasm and ingenuity. Our home institution is the University of Ljubljana, with our members studying at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and the Faculty of Computer and Information Science. In our local environment we organise different lectures, soft skills trainings, promote interesting events. The biggest and most important annual local project is JobFair, which we first organised in 2007. It’s an event where companies can meet their potential employees and students can take their first steps of building a career. The fair consists of booth presentations of numerous companies as well as interesting lectures, moderated discussions and speed dating with employers. With such actions we try to help students get the most out of their study years. On the international level, we regularly organise workshops for foreign students, which traditionally conclude with one of our legendary International Motivational Weekends situated in our beautiful countryside. We also have experience with handling bigger events: we organised the 1987 and 1999 Congress and jointly with LC Rijeka the 2008 Congress. In 2014 we prepared our first Advanced Skills Workshop, followed by another two in 2015 and 2016.In 2017 we are organizing a spring congress, as well as another ASW. We always welcome our international guests with awesome parties and one of the most desirable drinks in EESTEC - Borovnicke. We have big plans for the future, as we never run out of highly motivated members, eager to try something new, improve their skills and of course spread EESTEC Spirit!

ASW - Bytes of Banking: Sharing Ideas, Creating Knowledge From July, 14th 2016 to July, 24th 2016 Organisers’ report This year we took our Advanced Skills Workshop a bit further and invited the biggest shopping centre BTC City to be our partner, which not only provided financial aid but also hosted final event, where representative from the BTC board was present as well as CEO of Halcom and Secretary of minister of science, culture and sports of Slovenia. Halcom, on the other hand, hosted us during academic part of the workshop. LC Ljubljana organised all the logistics of the event. We were also cooperating a lot in the preparation of academic part, considering our experience from last years which helped us to make event even better. Since some of the LC Ljubljana members became Halcom employees, they helped with the academic part a lot. We had rehearsal of all the lectures where lecturers (employees of Halcom and BTC) really considered our feedback and made their lectures even better for the best participants. ;) Besides 12 EESTEC participants, we also had 12 local students. They worked a lot and even though we prepared a night out everyday and were prepared to have many social activities, the participants got so interested in their work, they decided to go back to the hostel and work some more. But that doesn’t mean we didn’t have much fun. The academic part of the workshop started on Friday, when students attended lectures for the whole day. Main themes and the case were presented. Those

LC Ljubljana were the most important lectures for prototype development during whole week. During the week we continued with lectures from fields of user experience, design, sales, security, etc. On days from Saturday to Wednesday there was a little bit of lectures in the morning and then idea and prototype development through the day. Because Friday was the deadline, we scheduled Thursday for development only and we also organised Hackathon for the whole day, where students had until 4 am to finalize their presentations and prototypes. This way participants had time to work on their products from 8 am until 4 am the next day without breaks (with exception of meals). On Friday there was technical pitch at Halcom and later business pitch at BTC’s ABC Accelarator. Just as last years, this year’s overall winners got paid internship at Halcom in Ljubljana. The best business pitch was awarded with free international MBA Business Summer School held by IEDC business school in the summer of 2017. Fun part was of course part of the workshop as well. We started with city rally on Thursday afternoon (before the academic part of the workshop), continued with games to get to know each other as well as with team-building games. On Sunday evening we had international dinner and we were visiting clubs all over Ljubljana whole week. We also visited the bank of Ljubljanica and hung out at the Hostel Simbol. After the academic part we had one last party in Ljubljana and on Saturday morning we left to Bled where we swam and after relaxed and partied in Kranjska Gora after a week of hard work. LC Ljubljana proved itself to be a very capable organiser which only made already existing connection with Halcom stronger and formed new connections and with it, opportunities with BTC, just as it did last year. We would like to encourage EESTEC committees to organize more advanced skills workshops with high quality of academic part and strong cooperation with companies, but they should never forget on the team-building part and to keep the EESTEC spirit up for the whole week. :)

THE IMW From October, 20th 2016 to October, 23rd 2016 Participants’ report The first participants of the IMW arrived in the night to Thursday. It was dark, cold and rainy, but Ljubljana gave us right from the beginning an impression what their student life is about: Party hard, regardless of any circumstances. Therefore most of the next day was needed to recover and to prepare the sleeping rhythm for the coming IMW. We met the other participants who had booked an extra day in the late afternoon at Campus, because there they have the cheapest beer, but best pizza in town. Later we headed to the hostel for checking in and for some predrinking in our rooms. Then we changed the location to a small, but cute bar, where EESTEC took over control over the music and danced to EESTEC-Songs all night long. On Friday, we did some sightseeing in smaller groups. Some of us walked up the hill to visit the castle and to have a look above the town, while the others decided to go for a beer to a cosy bar. A third group made a short trip to a lake outside of Ljubljana. We reunited in the afternoon at Campus to board the (party)bus which took us to Kranjska Gora. The ride took us two hours and led through a stunning autumn countryside. At the accommodation, we were welcomed with some beer and a nice meal. We moved into our rooms, while the organizers prepared everything for the 80s/90s party in the evening. So we danced the whole evening to some old, but still good music. The party had a revival at 3 o’clock in the morning, when most of the participants went to bed. During Saturday morning, we had to choose between some games in the garden, some improvisation theatre exercises and a soft skill training about conflict management. Tough decision! After a nice meal cooked by the house owner we went for a walk to Lake Jasna . On our way, we did a funny and perfectly organized game. At the lake, some of us proved how brave they are and had a swim in the cold water. Others hung out on a float, but they lost control drifted away, so they had to paddle all the way across the lake to reach solid ground again. In the evening took the unforgettable glow party place in our house. The room, the bar, the participants and even the drinks were decorated with some

LC Ljubljana glowing colours. The next morning, we had to recover from the previous night and to pack our things because the IMW Ljubljana was nearly over. We exchanged numbers with our new friends, took some last group fotos, and then it was time to say good bye.

LC Madrid

About LC Madrid Hola everyone! LC Madrid is one of the committees which founded EESTEC back in the 80s, being a former member of the old association which lead to the formation of EESTEC: Eurielec. Since we are very lazy, we have kept this old name, Eurielec, for decades, and it has become now part of our identity. We are located at the Telecommunication School of the Technical University of Madrid (ETSIT UPM), and so far, we are the only LC in Spain. At local level, we work on different Electrical Engineering and Computer Science projects, such as the organisation of Linux and open software courses or the organisation of small workshops on electronics projects. We also work in project about soft skills, working and travelling in Europe. We are the LC responsible for taking care of the International Bureau and getting this Yearbook done! If you want to meet us, don’t hesitate to apply for one of our events!

Smart Wars From April, 24th 2016 to May, 1st 2016 Participants’ report Smart Wars was definitely the event that will be remembered for its unique atmosphere, amazing location, professional organisation, inspiring people and many many more... Speaking of unique atmosphere, after barely a week I could already consider as a family all people involved - all participants, all members

LC Madrid of LC Madrid and finally all of the coordinators of this international workshop. They were open, they were friendly, they were helpful and, most importantly, they shared a lot of their knowledge and their experience. They also shared their emotions and ideas. This had the biggest impact on me. During only a week I was able to widen my knowledge about Big Data and Cyber security, during only a week I was able to meet people with strong beliefs and ideas. One of things that also impressed me a lot was the variety of activities and involvement of all the people from LC Madrid. Whenever we needed them they were always near by. In other words, if the EESTEC spirit has to be described as one of the events it organizes, SMART WARS is the most accurate definition. If you are seeking a model workshop organisation, seek no more, just look at LC Madrid. Sebastian Skoczen LC Krakow

Organisers’ report Being part of the LC Madrid’s board and the organizing board of Smart Wars as well has been a new challenge in my life and game changing experience in it. After organizing congress many of the most implicated members finished their journey, so we didn’t have a simple job. During the event, almost everything went as planned and if not we found a solution in a very short period of time.We had some unexpected situations as is logical, but thanks to our team we were always able to handle it in a smooth way. The participants were such a great group of people, with the help of the organizers and their open personality, they quickly built a family atmosphere that made all the inexperienced ones fall in love with EESTEC. There were some participants that at first found some obstacles to join the group, but as the days happened they got very integrated and enjoyed their time with the rest. During

LC Madrid the lectures and the rest of the activities most of them showed a lot of interest and tried their hardest to learn from it, even though some of the lectures weren’t very attractive. During the week the organizers and participants tried to have the best of our lives and a week to remember, and my impression as board is that it was reached from both sides, participants felt like home and organizers got filled up with EESTEC Spirit. About LC Nis Currently, EESTEC Local Committee Nis counts about 15 active members who are totally committed to maintain the EESTEC atmosphere at the Faculty Of Electronics in Nis, as well as the city in general. We, in the Local committee Nis, believe that being a good engineer does not only involve possessing technical knowledge, but rather good social skills as well. In light of that, we devote a lot of attention to that kind of knowledge. Moreover, we know that acquiring knowledge is nothing without having fun! That’s why we try to combine both components equally during our events. Last year we managed to organize 3 big local events: "Code Craft" programming competition (1st edition in September 2016), "IEEESTEC Student Conference" (9th edition in November 2016) and now we are preparing to organize "Smart technologies’ power for your future" (5th edition in March 2017). This way we are trying to raise academical level in EESTEC. We are looking forward to continue all these projects and of course to organize a new ones and we would be honored if you participate in our future events! Your EESTEC LC Nis.

LC Novi Sad

About LC Novi Sad EESTEC LC Novi Sad is a local committee established in 2001. at the conference in London. Our association brings together students from the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad with the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science,Mechatronics, Biomedical Engieneering, Software Engineering and Graphical Design. Since membership in EESTEC carries the responsibility and obligation, not just membership "on paper", EESTEC LC Novi Sad, with over 320 members, is one of the largest and most active local committees. We organized 13 exchanges and 8 professional seminars so far, and hosted more than 260 colleagues from European technical universities, while nearly 300 of our students are sent on the road to Europe. EESTEC LC Novi Sad in 2010. received a great honor to organize the ECM (EESTEC Chairpersons’ Meeting), one of the most important events within the organization. On the occasion of the Presidential Conference of electrical engineering students we have hosted over 70 participants who were actively working during the event to create a new development EESTEC strategy, involving numerous projects in the coming years. For the last eight years EESTEC LC Novi Sad has extended the domain of their activities, and become very active at the local level. With the excellent cooperation with companies and universities, we organized four major competitions in programming, several presentations and seminars for local students and a job fair KONTEH 06, KONTEH 07, KONTEH08, KONTEH10, KONTEH11, KONTEH 12, KONTEH 13 and KONTEH 14. In 2014 our committee had the honor to organize HoBOM and host our dear new Internacional Board as well as the old one. We were given the privilege to provide them with a unforgettable time in our city and in doing so made their work, which was pretty harsh and tiring, a little bit less tedious. For several years, EESTEC LC Novi Sad has a full support from the University of Novi Sad, Faculty of Engineering, Provincial Department of Sport and Youth, Provincial Department of Education and Culture, and most recently by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Serbia.

LC Patras

About LC Patras EESTEC Patras was founded in 2006. After a few years EESTEC Patras was JLC and then LC. During those years, two international events took place. In 2011, all members of EESTEC LC Patras graduated and during the ECM of 2012 EESTEC Patras was downgraded to Observer. At that point, some students of our University discovered EESTEC and they started making it popular to the students of our department. After two years of being Observer, we managed to motivate enough people to join EESTEC through presentations and local activities, which resulted in a core of members who is highly motivated to organise and participate in EESTEC events and keep the local committee of EESTEC Patras active during the next years. Because of our intense activity of the last months, in December 2014, we got upgraded from Observer to JLC and later at the 29th EESTEC Congress we got promoted to our recent status of an LC. Today, our local committee is counting about 189 members which are students of the University of Patras. Since last year we have organised the following events: -IT Sprint, an operational event with 11 participants from all around Europe, 7 local participants from the University of Patras and Moritz Knuppel as Board Representative and lecturer. -Operation:S.U.N., our first exchange event with 16 international and 27 local participants. -We organized set of workshops for the students of our University in order to empower their knowledge and guide them from theory to practical skills. -Winter Motivational Weekend in the mountain near to our city for our members to know better each other and become motivated and active. -Soft skills trainings for the local members (leadership, project management, motivation and international awareness)

LC Patras -A paintball day for our old and new members.

2nd IT Sprint From March, 20th 2016 to March, 27th 2016 Participants’ report Work hard, play hard. This is one way of describing my time spent at the 2nd IT Sprint. Being an operational event, the schedule was designed to keep the academic part in focus during the day while also providing well earned parties afterwards. The first day started with a bit of time traveling, from Antiquity up to the present day. Over the course of three working sessions, the participants took the raw idea of a customer and realized a detailed plan of a software solution to be implemented during the 12 hour hackathon. But the event wasn’t all about work. We were in Greece after all and the organizers didn’t miss the chance to give us a peek into both the greek nightlife and the greek culture. After a short warm up, the international night, the city rally and a trip followed in quick succession. We took part in traditional dances, tasted homemade greek dishes and went to a club, all of this on the international night. Patras and Naupaktos proved to be rich places for those who enjoy sightseeing. As this was my first EESTEC event, I feel that even though the IT Sprint is now finished, this is just the beginning of an epic journey as an EESTECer, accompanied by new and amazing friends. Participant Mihai Babiac, LC Munich

Organisers’ report 21-27 of March IT Sprint took place in Patras. It was a special week for all the participants and the organizers too. After four months of intensive work, with the support of the University of Patras and our sponsors, EESTEC LC Patras was able to organize an operational event with 11 participants from all around Europe, 7 local participants from the University of Patras and Moritz Knuppel, as Board Representative and lecturer. In this amazing week the participants attended seminars, lectures and workshops in Engineering Software, Process

Through Soft Skill Training Sessions (Project Management or Communication Skills) they have been taught how to improve their organizational and communication skills. However the workshop had even more aspects, as the participants had the opportunity to make a tour in the city with an extraordinary City-Rally game. Also they had the opportunity to know the surrounding areas after a trip to the Rio-Antirio-Nafpaktos and see the magnificent construction of Rio-Antirio Bridge (Charilaos Trikoupis). They also had plenty of time to know each other and take a taste of new cultures and exchanging ideas, knowledge and experiences, making new friendships and giving appointments in other countries.

Operation: S.U.N. From July, 11th 2016 to July, 16th 2016 Participants’ report From the moment I arrived at Patras, I was warmly welcomed by the organizers. Therefore, I knew this was going to be an unforgettable experience. The schedule was full of beach time, different types of funny and interesting games, time for relaxing and parties. The organizers made sure we wouldn’t leave Kourouta without getting to know the people, the traditional dances, the night life and, of course, the cuisine. Furthermore, during the trip to Ancient Olympia we could learn the history of the largest Greek sanctuary and we had the opportunity to feel the Olympic spirit while we were running around the Olympic Game’s stadium. It goes without saying that the parties were legendary, specially the ones at Kourouta village. In the end, we felt that words like "kalimera", " kalinigta", "efharisto", " chilagra" and "halara" were everything we were going to need in order to have a unique and one-in-lifetime Greek experience. The exchange concluded with the closing ceremony and the10th Anniversary Party full of EESTEC spirit. There is not any objective description that can reflect what I have lived in Patras, you just need to be an agent to see how incredible is. Definitely, the experiences we lived here will become unforgettable memories. Participant Elena Batanero GarcÃia, LC Madrid

Organisers’ report The first exchange of LC Patras Operation:S.U.N. took place from 11th till 16th of July. 16 international and 27 local participants travelled from Patras to Kourouta to spend 5 days of camping, relaxing moments and funny activities. The participants had the chance to be next to the nature, swim, play beach games and participate to the 1st EESTEC Olympic Games. During the Treasure Hunt that was organised the last day they learned how to dance syrtaki, how to make the traditional Greek coffee Frape and participated in the remake of "Baywatch". Apart from the above activities a one day trip to Ancient Olympia was organised.

LC Podgorica

About LC Podgorica

Local Committee Podgorica was officially accepted into full membership on EESTEC Congress in Delft, in 2000th year and it is the only local committee in Montenegro.

It currently has about 120 members. We are aware of the seriousness of our future calls as well as quality of knowledge we adopt at our university, but we believe that knowledge acquired by doing something practical is a big plus for future engineers, and it’s much easier to acquire knowledge through fun so we try to procure that to our members. Most of our members are active, and few of them are alumni members who helped us a lot in organizing our events. We organized different kind of events till now. Some events were with educational character - seminars about energetics and telecommunications, course of web programming, yearly charity events - charity action of collecting clothes, candies and school tools for children with disabilities from a local school, summer exchanges, motivational weekends and a workshop this summer.

EESTEC LC Podgorica is one of the most active student’s organization in Montenegro and has very good cooperation with similar organizations. We are planning to organize more projects which, we hope will be very interesting for our and students from other colleges.

Error 404: Boredom Not Found! From August, 15th 2016 to August, 22nd 2016 Participants’ report As a participant of exchange 404 Boredom Not Found, I can say that I had really awesome time in Kotor with great people. We had a lot of fun, the beach was beautiful. I am very satisfied with sightseeing and all places that we visited. Also accommodation was good. I was impressed with how the organizers cared about as, with history of Montenegro, and also how Montenegrians are friendly people. We visited Lovcen, famous Montenegrian mountain where we saw monument of the most important man in Montenegrian history, then cities Budva, Cetinje, Tivat... Organizers had a great surprise for us. It was a cruise around Boka Bay. I enjoyed watching the beautiful landscapes. I’ve never cruised the bay before, so this was really great experience for me! The most beautiful part of every EESTEC event is meeting new people and hangouts. We were like a big family for these 7 days. We had a chance to see what EESTEC spirit really is. I warmly recommend to all EESTECers to visit fascinating Kotor.

Organisers’ report "Error 404: Boredom Not Found!is an exchange organized by LC Podgorica. During the exchange participants had the chance to visit some of the most beautiful cities in Montenegro. Starting with Kotor! Kotor is a beautiful UNESCO town, with a charming old town and a bustling harbor. During City Rally, which was full of interesting challenges and tasks, participants felt the spirit of this charm-

The participants got to enjoy the beauties of this bay on a special cruise we prepared for them. Then there is Budva, known as the metropolis of Montenegrian tourism thanks to the great number of beaches. Next is the luxurious Porto Montenegro and Plavi Horizonti, beach with crystal clear water which they definitely liked. And last but not least Cetinje, Lovćen. Lovćen montain range is natural, historical, cultural and spiritual symbol for all Montenegrins. Now it’s party time! Most of the parties were in old town of Kotor. We are sure participants were impressed with Kotor’s night life. Also, we had different theme parties so there was something for everyone’s taste. One night was specially reserved for "Bokeljska noc" or "Boka night". This is a tradition longer than three centuries and it is held in Kotor every year in mid-August. At the end of the night the most beautifully decorated boat is chosen and Boka night ends with amazing fireworks. Hope this gives you enough reason to believe: Boredom CAN NOT be found in Kotor!

About LC Riga First of all we are super proud to be from the North, well to be honest it is cold here most of the year and that is why we enjoy so much traveling around Europe and meeting all the amazing EESTEC people. And when we do, we tend to get a little bit crazy and maybe unpredictable, but that is only because in our regular lives we work, we study and for that we get inspiration from EESTEC. Our LC has had both good and bad times, however we remain positive that this thing a couple of computer engineering students started back in 2008 with an idea about workshop here in Riga will keep on bringing good times for our fellow Electrical Engineering students and we really hope to see you sometime soon in our amazing city Riga! LC Sarajevo

About LC Sarajevo In the summer of 2006, a group of young and motivated students came together, combined their ideas, and focused all their effort into forming EESTEC LC Sarajevo, and with that joined the unique EESTEC family. No one was surprised when then, the small LC Sarajevo grew into a large and powerful organization that gathers a big number of enthusiastic students full of positive energy, eager to meet new people and broaden their horizons. EESTEC Sarajevo is now a mosaic of 400 active and alumni members, and with each new piece, it becomes more diverse. Each individual contributes with their creativity, ideas and knowledge, making it possible for LC Sarajevo, as a team, to achieve big things! Our mission is to promote electrical engineering students, and to make it possible for them to travel to major European cities in order to improve their technical knowledge, foreign languages, but also to acquire unique values, lifelong memories, to learn to appreciate different cultures and become richer with every friend they make. Thanks to our motivation and teamwork we have successfully organized many educational, as well as fun projects, on local and international level such as: - Our yearly JobFAIR for students and graduates of technical and technological faculties; - Local event "Soft Skills Academy Sarajevo" for all students studying in Sarajevo, organized in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017; - International student exchange "EESTEC Winter Olympic Games Sarajevo", organized in 2009 and 2011; - International workshop about film making "eMovie Academy", organized in 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2016;

LC Sarajevo intereting people along the way. As for organizers they were always there when we needed them, supportive and helpful, providing instructions and taking care of problems if necessary. They also had a good sense of humor and had fun with participants carrying not to forget about english language even when they outnumbered participans 5 to 1. LC Sarajevo members were accompaning us on most parties and nights out we were on, which gave us more possibilities in terms of meeting new interesting characters and share both expierience and thoughts about EESTEC, life, future plans, studies, etc. Lectures were entertaining and we could get a fresh look at movie industry and movie making process itself from a new perspective. Lecturers were well educated in their field of interest/study and were very open minded and inspiring us to always think outside the box, to try new ideas, to experiment and put our hearts and souls into everything we make, to make it trully ours and unique. Accomodation provided by LC Sarajevo was good, beds were comfortable and bathrooms big enough. People who worked there were very positive and friendly. We also had one big guest room in which we as participants spent good amount of time in between activities or in the evenings together, playing games together and getting to know each other. Overall I think that this event is worth attending, I highly recommend it to anyone that is interested but not sure, believe me, the scenery is beautifull, the city unique, people

LC Sarajevo awesome, and the view from the mountains surrounding the city breathtaking, even on the lower levels! :D One thing I’m very sad about is that I got a slight fever at the end when I was supposed to stay 1 day longer to climb those mountains and I spent half the day in bed. But since they say that if you drink water from Sarajevo, you’ll get back to Sarajevo one day, then I’m sure I will get on top of those mountains one day and add some pictures to my collection! :D Pawel Rybicki

Organisers’ report From 13th to 20th of August 2016, LC Sarajevo has successfully organised 13th international workshop. Fifteen participants, members of EESTEC from all around the Europe, had the chance to be a part of eMovie Academy 2016. During the workshop participants had the opportunity to learn some basic things about movies, movie making, history, scenario writing, movie editing using powerful software tools and using the latest technology such as GoPro camera or a drone. The participants were divided into 3 teams at the beginning of the event. Each group wrote a scenario and shot their own short documentary. The movies that they made were about the past, present and the future of Sarajevo the way they see it and were presented during the closing ceremony of the event. After the exhausting hours of lectures and work, the participants experienced nightlife during Sarajevo Film Festival where they also attended a movie premiere, learned a lot about local cuisine and music during Bosnian night and hopefully felt the hospitality and cultural diversity that Sarajevo is famous for. LC Tampere

About LC Tampere LC Tampere is one of the founding members of EESTEC and has been in EESTEC since its very beginning in 1986. At the beginning of 2000 LC Tampere became an independent club to serve Computer Science and Electrical Engineering students alike. Since 2013 our university has renewed the structure of the degree programmes and now we have a common bachelor programme with Computing and Electrical Engineering. In the beginning of May 2016 LC Tampere had a big coffee buffet in the center of our Campus Arena building to celebrate our 30th birthday! This year LC Linkoping was invited to our summer gathering "Wokshop" because we wanted our neighbour LC to experience true finnish summer cottage. We are sure our friends left Funland happy after whole weekend of sauna, swimming and other activities. Other cool local event was Pre-Christmas sauna on the rooftop of the tallest building in Hervanta, where our University is also located. We made sure every participant had their share of food and mulled wine. Of course everybody had to try out the special Mongolians we made!

LC Trieste

About LC Trieste EESTEC LC Trieste was born in our city from an idea based on the drive to socialize, to strive for knowledge and internationalization and EESTEC International delivers those values to all its members. Let’s travel back in time to the year 2000, when the new millennium started. In the reports of the EESTEC Congress in Delft of that year is hidden our "certificate of birth": Observer Trieste was born on 22nd march 2000 thanks to Danko Tomasic and Marko Nikolic, creating the first core of our group, officially presented by LC Rijeka. The next year the EESTEC Congress in London gave us the rank of "LC" and we officially joined the big family: it was the beginning of a big but not easy adventure. The first years were the most difficult, as may happen to any students’ association: we had to create the "brand" of our LC, make us known in the university ambient, to the students (initially just electronic engineering and computer science) and the municipality. All of that while organizing some events, increasing the number of participants on each event, gathering LC members and meeting with other EESTECers in the international area. The year 2006 was a year of change, when a new board decided to insert the organization even more in the academic ambient, creating closer networks with professors, the IEEE local organization and making the basic international part of EESTEC happen. It was the group led by Arling Doberdolani, which in the three years following, brought "Wake up for Bavisela" to life, the first locally organized international event. It was somehow a heroic event for the adaptability, initiative and will of realizing something important with very limited budgets. The shared ideal of getting in contact with other ambients, cultures and making international friends was the driving force for all the organizers.

172

Yearbook 2016-2017

LC Trieste Another big year was 2012 when Erni Durdevic and his very active group were hungry for action and experience, so they performed a burocratic change in the statutes of our association: we switched from a simple student group to a fully legally accepted Cultural Association. Some big workshops on the computer science topic were made and the first really big locally organized international event took place (1st EESTEC Summer School - 2012) with the support of some big regional companies. All those successes were the first big result of years of students believing in our work and in what EESTEC could bring to them. But we didn’t stop there, since the next year EESTEC LC Trieste expanded its world by becoming officially an Association of Social Promotion, breaking the record of 15 members, organizing another international technical event (2nd EESTEC Summer School - 2013) and organizing and participating to more local events like the Mini Maker Faire Trieste, the first Arduino workshops and a workshop about the EFT technique to reduce the stress of the exam sessions. The last international event was a big news for us since it was not technical (Game of Teams) but about Soft Skills, the necessary and never taught set of abilities to understand how humans work together and how to do it without creating conflicts and maximizing the team efficiency. Two years ago we have broken into some difficulties: a lot of our active EESTECers had left the LC and for this reason our hopeful event EESTEChef had failed. Nevertheless this situation don’t make us discourage and thanks to a heavy and well organised work of engagement we bacame stronger than before. Actually our Board is the youngest ever seen in LC Trieste and we hope this would be a powerful resourse for the LC. In the last year we had organised some projects, among which there is the season 2 of our successful event:Game of Teams and now we are focusing to solve our strenghtless points and to organising a new technical event. Here’s our story, that’s how we become who we are. Now... we are waiting for you! If you’re interested in meeting us and enjoing our city applicate applicate applicate to our exiting events!

Game of Teams season 2 From July, 25th 2016 to July, 31st 2016 Participants’ report Through the papers that all the participants write to express their feedback we can say that in general the event was well organised. The participants were enthusiastic of both the activities with the trainer and the lecture of the teacher. Everything was considered absolutely not foregone and really helpful. The activities organised by us were seen at the same time funny and exhausting. Everyone appreciate that the International night and the other nights were organised each one in a different place! Everything shared was magic and fantastic! We remember the party on the boat, the karaoke at International night, the big "I have never ever..." in our office. We can say that the participants had learned a lot of thanks to the trainers and they enjoyed very much our beautiful city in various ways.;D We hope we can do even better with our next event!

Organisers’ report Last year we organised the second season of Game of Teams, that in the 2014 had had so many positive feedbacks. Actually the success of the first season can be seen in the big number of applications. The main topic, the structure of the event and the related activities were quite the same, but the organisers are totaly different. Moreover two of us saw the event at the first season as participants and at the second season as organisers. One of them was the head organiser. The lectures taken place in six mornings and two afternoons and are given by three trainers from EESTEC Training Team and by a teacher of our University. The lectures mixed soft skills and the practise of english in presentation. The other afternoons we organised some games to challenge the four groups in which the participants were divided: City Rally, Cluedo Live, Coup d’etat and

LC Trieste so on. All the activities gain a lot of success! The International night and the other nights gave the possibility to the participants to socialize and have fun after the challenging lectures and all the participants appreciate them a lot. Summing up this week help everyone both participants and organisers to improve ourselves!

LC Tuzla

About LC Tuzla

While they were on International Electrical Engineering Students Gathering, widely known as Elektrijada, which had taken place in Ohrid in 2006 , Jasmina Nalic and Hajrija Jahic have come across to an idea for establishing EESTEC in Tuzla .Members of the LC Rijeka had big part in planting that idea. After that, "The Observer Team Tuzla", which was led by Jasmina Nalic and Marina Benes, has been registered. We became Junior LC on the Congress in Budapest in 2007 , where we were represented by Hajrija Jahic. The members of the first board were: Hajrija Jahic-Chairwoman, Mirza Becirbasic - Vice-Chairman, Laris Maglic - Treasurer, Jasmina Nalic - Contact Person, Samir Mecic -Fundraising, Irvin Hot -Web Designer, with the help of our most active members: Marina Benes, Kresic Igor, Zlatko Alomerovic, Senad Karic, Sandra Hasanovic, Semir Karic, Admir Mujkic, Nadin Dizdarevic, Mirza Nakicevic, Jahic Jasmin , Amela Begic, Amer Bosnjic, Anida Mumic etc. Thanks to their dedication and hard work, the EESTEC spirit and idea has been spread among new generations, and we have become full-fledged local committee. The first workshop, organised by LC Tuzla, was held on 3rd to 10th July 2007, under the name "Linux as an alternative". This is followed by "GIS & GPS" in 2009, "IPTV-The Next Generation TV" in 2011, "EESTEChnology" in 2013 and "SmarTech - Android Projects" in 2016. Today EESTEC LC Tuzla counts about 40 members, and with each day, this number is growing, alongside with EESTEC spirit..

SmarTech - Android Projects From July, 24th 2016 to July, 29th 2016 Participants’ report Being in the "city of salt", was such an extraordinary experience, and unforgettable seven days of my life. Even though the organizers have had a problem with finding a lecturer, everything turned out just fine. Our lecturer Mr. Alen, is an experienced Android programmer, although he is not a teacher in his free time, his lectures were easy to understand, and interesting to listen to. Subjectively speaking, I learned more than I expected for this 5 days in the work shop. Besides all the academic moments, I must mention the good tourist time I had during these seven days. I met new friends, and hopefully lifelong international friendships. We had the pleasure to swim in the salty lakes, play some beach football, volleyball and of course get painful sunburns during the time being. The activity made by or hosts, also known as City Rally, helped us meet Tuzla, meet some of her "famous" people, learn the symbol, and the most important sentence of the city "Cjela Tuzla, jednu kozu muzla". In total, I will never regret spending a week in Tuzla, I will never forget the awesome moments with my new friends, and most important I am very thankful to the LC Tuzla comity for letting me be part of this workshop, and give me intro to Android Programing. Jane Lameski, LC Skopje Macedonia.

Organisers’ report During the period of 24.07. until 29.07. LC Tuzla has organized the international workshop "SmarTech Android project". The first day was about getting to know eachother, playing ice-breaking games and the welcome party. The next five days were filled with workshops, learning the basics of android programming and working on their own alarm clock app. Our participants have not only learned how to make an app in Andoid Studio, they have tried their luck with being an app designer and make their app look attractive to users.

LC Tuzla Work, work, work ... not only. The participants have explored Tuzla doing a city rally and tried bosnian traditional food. Not to forget all the amazing LC Tuzla parties. The best party was the international night, trying all the different food and drinks, dancing to songs from different countries and having so much fun. The workshop was a success, everyone has made new friends and amazing memories, learned about Android programming and had a great time in Tuzla.

ParTuzla From July, 29th 2016 to July, 31st 2016 Participants’ report International motivational weekend - time to have fun, be crazy, rest a bit, meet new people, charge your batteries and get motivated! ParTuzla was a place where we did exactly that. First of all, the organizers did a great job in communicating with us before the event. Because we (Katarina and I) had to switch buses during our traveling we didn’t know the exact arrival time and it made it difficult for the organizers to make plans for that day, but they were always in contact with us and ready to welcome us whenever we arrive. Secondly, the accommodation was awesome. We were in a hotel with big, comfortable beds and air conditioning, a perfect place for resting when you needed it. The hotel was near the city center, lake, party places, just about everything. Food was also good. Some participants didn’t like it, I guess I’m not that picky, but we did have everything: all meals, hot dishes and of course cevapi. We were at the lake, most of the time, talking, chilling, swimming, sightseeing, having fun in the sun. Parties during the night were fun, however people got drunk really fast and wanted to go to another club or back to the hotel. The biggest problem at this event was that the organizers didn’t know how to dance "Hi raj kam, hir aj go" and they never did Haka during the IMW! Other than that, everything was okay. The organizers we’re talking with everyone, making sure we have everything we need and that no one was feeling left out. I came back more motivated and relaxed, I’ve met awesome people and had a lot of fun. They are an amazing LC and I’m glad I had the opportunity to spend time with them. Milica Stankovic, LC Novi Sad

Organisers’ report The IMW lasted for 2 days and was filled with fun and lots of liquid courage. The first day was spent lying on the beach, swimming and playing volleyball, at night

LC Tuzla we partied in a retirement home where we held our International Night. After the circle of death, out Chairman (our hero), tried to pass on to the afterlife but was stopped by two angels (or perhaps demons). The whole next day was spent on the beach, sleeping, chilling, swimming, showing off our godly bodies. At night we partied our hearts out because tomorrow would mean farewell, or so we thought... However, our two participants had so much fun that they decided to miss their last bus home and stay for another day. And so our hero, again, didn’t get any sleep. And so ends the tale of ParTuzla, with questions unanswered. Did we ever justify the name? Did the demons ever leave? Will our hero ever get any sleep? You’ll just have to come and find out for yourself.

LC Xanthi

About LC Xanthi Initially, LC Xanthi was founded by two graduated students from Democritus University of Thrace studying Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2010. Since then, new members have joined our LC. By organizing or taking part in seminars and events, they have managed to develop themselves, as well as learn useful and practical things for their lives. We have organized three International Workshops ever since and one Exchange. Also, at a local level, we have organized three "UniDay", one "CareerDay" and one "Soft Skills Academy (SSA)", all of them with great success! Apart from that, in EESTEC we have become a family where love, solidarity and mutual contribution have created a miniature of an ideal world

House of Apps From May, 15th 2016 to May, 22nd 2016 Participants’ report Organisers’ report In our third international workshop that took place from the 15th to the 22nd of May 2016, our participants had the chance to create their own "House of Apps", a Smart House that would help them save energy and time, something that we lack nowadays. To achieve that, they used the Internet of Things with the help of our "friends", Arduino and Raspberry Pi.

LC Xanthi Moreover, they created different applications step-by-step that gave them the1 power to control some electronic devices. At the end of our workshop, they had the opportunity to install their inventions in a picturesque house of the Old town of Xanthi! here was no need to be an expert in order to join our event, since we were going to start from scratch! We had the time of our lives as organizers of the event! We had the chance to wander through the streets of the stunning Old Town, which offers many exciting options either for a morning coffee or a memorable nightout! We met new people, made new friends and had some amazing new experiences. We would definitely join the organizing team of our International Workshop. The friendships you make and the time you have are also indispensable. We thank all of our participants that made our workshop even more Xanthastic!

TOOL - 3rd Leaders of Tomorrow From May, 22nd 2016 to May, 29th 2016 Participants’ report One week full of knowledge, one week full of emotions. I am really grateful for being accepted in such a constructive and beneficial event. "Leaders of Tomorrow" was not only about leadership. During the training sessions, we understood how important is to be self-aware, how to give and receive feedback, how to make the most out of a conflict, how to figure out the most fisible and suitable solution for a problem, how to implement a change. All this information and skills were practiced through activities. We all understood how crucial it is to know who you are exactly, why you make any particular choice in your life in order to comprehend their feelings and needs, motivate them and, finally, inspire them. Furthermore, it was an honor for us that LC Zagreb hosted T.O.O.L. The city is beautiful, full of captivating places and secret spots to visit, as well as plenty of

LC Zagreb verdant parks, squares with fountains and smiling people. We had the chance to meet adorable people from Zagreb. The organizing committee had prepared every detail for us perfectly. Not only the OC, but also the volunteers were always there for us, eager to satisfy our needs, helpful and caring. They were socializing with us, despite our tough schedule, they motivated us to explore the city, party, have fun, accomplish daily challenges. The most notable thing was the smile in their faces, even during the hardest task: waking us up in the morning. It wasn’t just about the basics. Those people made a remarkable effort to offer us a unique experience. We made friends for life, we created strong bonds. All in all, we became better persons. This event defined our next goals, increased our expectations and provide us with the tools to make meaningful changes in our personal lives and in EESTEC. Elena Xanthi Athens

Organisers’ report The event TOOL: Leaders of Tomorrow 3 took place in Zagreb from 22.05 to 29.05. We are very proud of LC Zagreb and effort that all members have put into organizing this event. Without them, this event wouldn’t be so great. We spend a lot of time organizing this event and we believe that both participants and trainers were satisfied with it. The event started on Sunday when participants had organized barbecue with members of LC Zagreb. During the week, participants had trainings and reflection groups in the evening, except for the Wednesday afternoon when City Rally took place. During City

LC Zagreb Rally participants and trainers were divided into 5 groups and they had to do various tasks as swimming in fountain or doing Haka dance. We were really satisfied seeing how much participants connected with each other and how they didn’t split into groups but did everything together. Also, their commitment to trainings was seen during every other activity in which they used knowledge they adopted during trainings. They also talked about trainings in their free time so we believe they really enjoyed trainings and event. Meeting so many different people, great trainers and amazing people was amazing experience for OC and if we had a chance to turn back time, we would definitely organize this event all over again.

IMW: Drinkers of Tomorrow From May, 27th 2016 to May, 29th 2016 Participants’ report TOOL: Drinkers of Tomorrow Following the event TOOL: Leaders of Tomorrow organized and hosted by LC Zagreb was an international motivational weekend cleverly named as TOOL: Drinkers of Tomorrow. I participated in this IMW along with many others who just wanted to see Zagreb and have a good time. Having said that, I am certain that people were not disappointed to have come. General timeline: Shortly after my arrival in Zagreb (by plane) I was greeted by Nika, who made sure I arrived at my hostel safely. Having situated myself appropriately, the organizers (of whom Iva and Magi spent the most time with us) took us on a little field trip around Zagreb showing us around. Until the evening we had seen a large part of the city and even had time to rest. The important bit to point out is that we were never left alone and there was always someone keeping us company. In the evening we had a party at a club which name I don’t remember, but what I do know is that I absolutely loved the music there! The following day was a bit more of a chill-out type of day (at our request) due to the fact that most of us were kind of tired from having traveled long distances. Regardless, we were kept busy all day exploring Zagreb and spending time with the official (Leaders of Tomorrow) participants. In the evening we went to the farewell party in which the good atmosphere lasted for hours. On our departure day we started leaving one by one, even though I’m sure all of us were very sorry to say goodbye to LC Zagreb so soon. The city: Zagreb is truly one of the most beautiful cities I’ve been in so far. It gives you a feeling of tranquility as well as admiration of the architecture. There is a lot to see and it definitely can’t be done in just one day, however it’s well worth it in the end. In addition to the friendly locals there are also many breweries providing delicious beers to help you catch your breath after walking all day. It is definitely a place anyone would want to visit and see.

LC Zagreb Accommodation: The hostel where I was staying was one of my favorite parts of Zagreb actually. My Way Hostel is situated relatively close to the city centre and the atmosphere just makes you feel like home. The rooms were spotless and toilets were spotless, the beds were great and the staff was very friendly and professional. I also enjoyed the music choices of whoever was choosing the lobby music a lot. The parties: In my opinion, the parties organized for the IMW were amazing, especially the music. I do realize that music is a very subjective thing when it comes to people but I also think that the welcoming and friendly attitude of the organizers would have made anyone have incredible amounts of fun. Unlimited alcohol was also provided as promised, which basically fulfills the entire purpose of the event! Summary: I am personally very glad I decided to come to this IMW, as I had second thoughts beforehand due to the huge distance I had to travel. I believe that it was very well organized and very well coordinated by the people involved. There wasn’t a moment when the participants felt bored, alone or unwelcome (to that extent that some of the organizers even slept in the hostel with us! ) and these are some things that mean a lot to people coming to motivational weekends. It goes without saying that I would recommend LC Zagreb to any member of EESTEC that wants to have a good time. So without further ado, well done guys, I thoroughly enjoyed it! Ivan Sekovanic, LC Skopje

Organisers’ report IMW: drinkers of tomorrow took place in Zagreb from May 27 thill 29 2016. There were 10 participants. The participants were accommodated in Hostel "My Way" in the center of Zagreb. They were provided with 3 meals per day, two of which were a hot meal. On the first day we organised a sightseeing during the afternoon and in the evening both imw and tool participants went to the night club. We had provided them with free drinks before going to the club. On the second day, participants had free time during the morning and then lunch and picnic, also together with the tool participants, in the park in the center of Zagreb where they

LC Zagreb had the chance to see some cultural monuments and bathe in the fountains. In the evening we had a farewell party which included open bar and dancing the whole night. On the last day we provided breakfast and made sure all the participants made it to their ride home on time. Participants bonded with each other and also with tool participants. We received positive critics from most of them. Spoken language was English.

About LC Zurich EESTEC LC Zurich is legally and practically a part of the AMIV; the students guild representing mechanical and electrical engineering students at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zurich). The members of our LC are mechanical and electrical engineering students at ETH. The external representative of EESTEC LC Zurich is the chairperson, while contact with other LC’s in Europe and EESTEC International is kept by the Contact Person (CP). Depending on the task, workgroups are formed to take care of events and workshop. Our chairperson calls for a member meeting at least every two weeks where we cook and eat dinner together and talk about news and projects. That way, there are always interesting challenges for everybody interested in joining EESTEC LC Zurich! In the last year, we organised two international Workshops: The first one was "Startup Labs: Upcoming Technologies" from 1st till 8th of May, where we introduced the 15 participants to the startup scene in Zurich. In cooperation with the ETH Entrepreneur Club and EESTEC in Entrepreneurship, we showed them the essential skills needed to found a startup and make it successful. From 30th of October till 6th of November we hosted the third edition of our "Women in Engineering and Technology" workshops. The workshop addressed a variety of topics concerning women working and studying in engineering and related fields, with a particular focus on developing leadership skills, confronting the "leaky pipeline" issue as well as gender stereotyping in engineering. Of course, both workshops also offered a diverse cultural and evening program. Besides the almost mandatory city rally, tram party and International Night they also got to enjoy various parties and other activities. Furthermore, the subsequent weekend in the Alps is a must for all LC Zurich workshops - participants and organisers have to recover after a very exhausting week.

LC Zurich Our local events during the past year included the visit of LC Ljubljana’s IMW, a training delivered by one of our trainers and of course our two traditional events: the motivational BBQ at the lake of Zurich and the EESTEC LC Zurich skiing weekend. Even if it was planned to only be an MW, more and more people wanted to join - and we let them. Eventually, we enjoyed an amazing weekend with participants from 8 LCs - plus LC Zurich. All in all, another successful year! Cheers from LC Zurich

Startup Lab: Upcoming Technologies From May, 1st 2016 to May, 8th 2016 Participants’ report From 1st until 8th of May, EESTEC LC Zurich organised their workshop Startup Lab: Upcoming Technologies. I had the opportunity to be one of the participants during this workshop and I spend an amazing week in Switzerland. During the event, we had the chance to experience Zurich’s startup scene. The program started through with an introduction to upcoming technologies followed by an ideation session where we discussed in groups everyday problems and thought about possible solutions. We visited co-working spaces and saw how Swisscom and Impact Hub work. IBM invited us and introduced us to Watson, their cognitive intelligence system. ETH and the ieLAB gave a presentation about their startup support and afterwards, we had the opportunity to meet, talk and network with startup founders at a grilling evening arranged by the ETH Entrepreneur Club. Soft skill training was also part of the program: Leadership and Passion, and Communication. Besides the academic part, LC Zurich prepared for us a lot of other attractions. We were staying in a fantastic bunker, where we could lose the sense of reality, not knowing what the weather or time of day is. As a welcome party, we had a mask party, there was also SitSit (traditional Finnish meal with a lot of singing and drinking), karaoke and the unforgettable tram party. We also had the opportunity to explore beautiful Zurich and swim in fountains and the lake during

LC Zurich city rally and we had a guided tour through ETH. For IMW we went to the mountains. On our way there we crossed a lake by boat, from which we had beautiful views. We stayed in cottage placed at the entrance of a narrow, paradisiac valley. Over there we had Swiss-Night with a lot of cheese fondue, an LC Zurich Band performance and ABC (Anything But Clothes) Party, which all happened on Friday night. On Saturday we went hiking, on our way back we had tasks to do. For the farewell party, we had aloha party with a private baby swimming pool. LC Zurich organised an incredible workshop, with delicious meals, fantastic drinks and a great atmosphere. I had a really good time in Zurich, met amazing people and made a lot of memories with them. Malgorzata Szulc

Organisers’ report Start-up Lab Upcoming Technologies After a warm welcome with champagne and the LC Zurich flag, we brought our participants to one of the safest places in Switzerland. A place where even internet and phone calls could not disturb them, to our accommodation, the bunker. The academic program started on Monday after the welcome mask party on a rooftop terrace at ETH, where our barman proofed his skills for the first time. Our young entrepreneurs were introduced to the start-up movement in Zurich, by visiting coo-working places and accelerators, getting introduced to the start-up programs of ETH and joining a grilling session with ETH entrepreneur club. The most inspiring moment was straight after international night. During a coaching session, one-third of the participants started noting down what the coach was telling them. The week ended with an MW in the snow-covered Swiss Alps with drinking tequila the Swiss way and an open air kiddie pool party.

Women in Engineering and Technology 3 From October, 30th 2016 to November, 6th 2016 Participants’ report Women in Engineering and Technology was my first EESTEC workshop and for sure the one that I will be talking about for a long time. It exceeded all my expectations in every possible way. I mean the city of Zurich, where everything is in its place, and the participants who just want to have a good time and explore something new. Who could wish for more? It all started with a famous welcoming gift at the airport. After that, one of the first things that we all have the chance to see when we come to LC Zurich’s event is the famous bunker. I didn’t have a lot of expectations for it (since it is called bunker) but turns out it is a real cozy and warm place. The first day I remember going inside, then spending some time there, and later going outside thinking it must be 9 or 10 pm, so I got dressed in some warm clothes. But actually, it was 2 pm and the sun was shining. What a confusion! Later I simply got used to it. Now, when it’s all over, I kinda miss it. When it comes to the academic part, I was very surprised when the second day we went to all that labs where people were working on exactly what I hope I will be working on one day. Those were mostly things connected to automation and pattern recognition. The drones dance that we saw was pretty awesome and I was just fascinated with the equipment of all the labs. I also had the chance to hear the experiences of other women engineers that will hopefully help me if I ever come across some gender inequality. Apart from that, every company visit was really inspirational and the topics were diverse. When the time comes, I will definitely be searching for that kind of environment for my workspace. For me, no EESTEC workshop is awesome without a city rally and an International Night. This time, they were both on the same day with a break of one hour. Imagine how challenging that must be for any participant. So, at the beginning of a rally, I remember all of us being shy to even ask a stranger a question. But after some time, we wanted to do everything multiple times and even started making up our own challenges. I can’t say which party was the best, but these two were definitely the real party initiators.

LC Zurich The thing that I really liked was that the whole workshop was filled with constant activities and very little time to sleep. That way we were just jumping from one place to another and didn’t have time to get bored or think about tiredness. A good example of that would be the Tram Party where first, we were rushing to make our hats, then jumping from one train to the other, dancing Haka from time to time and doing all kind of crazy challenges. People around were most likely thinking we were drunk. They were probably right. Our last day in Zurich was really spectacular. It was completely organised by Zurich’s tourism entity, so both participants and organisers could just chill throughout the day while enjoying the city view, famous Swiss chocolates and some good champagne. We even had a chance to learn how to yodel and slowly prepare for what was coming next. It was, of course, the IMW. We sat on the train, and in no time we found ourselves in this, in my opinion, very fancy village. There, we explored the nature, had a typical Swiss dinner and when the night came, just partied till the Sun was up. Now, when it’s all over, I can say that the most valuable thing this workshop has brought me is some new friendships. I’m planning on sticking to them for a long time and hope to make some reunion as soon as possible, hopefully in Zurich. After all, that’s what EESTEC is all about: making new friends, travelling and simply having fun. Marija Milanovic, LC Belgrade

Organisers’ report No workshop is like the one before - even if you organise a series of workshops like "Women in Engineering". The idea stays but the implementation changes and even after the two previous editions there were some surprises. This edition started with lab visits to some of the most famous labs at ETH like the Flying Machine Arena. After enjoying the mesmerising dance of the drones, our participants got the chance to talk to two female professors at ETH and got some very personal insights into their life as female engineers and professionals. At company visits to Zuhlke, ABB and IBM we got the chance to hear from female engineers in the industry how they made their way to the top and how they experienced it. Two great soft skills trainings completed the academical part.

LC Zurich So far - not too many surprises. The biggest surprises, even for the organisers, came right before we left to the mountains for the weekend. The tourism entity of Zurich organised a whole day for us. The day started with an iPad city rally and after an extremely fancy lunch, with traditional Zurcher Geschnetzeltem and Rosti, they surprised us with a professional yodel coach. The Swissness intensified in all of us. After a macarons tasting, at one of the most renowned cafes in Zurich, they took us to a public square in the city centre. They spared the biggest surprise for the end: a wine fountain. Yes, you read that right. A fountain with wine. Since it’s only used very few times per year, so even most organisers didn’t know about it. Together with the weekend in the Alps, great people, all the parties and activities, this day made it a very enjoyable event - for organisers and participants.

International Board Dear EESTECers, EESTEC has changed and been restructured a lot since its establishment 31 years ago. Now we are a well-known student association across Europe with wide range of activities, members, teams and projects. And still, there is much left to learn, do and achieve. As we look back at our mandate, we have started new steps of improving our beloved Association, along with working on new ideas and projects. EESTech Challenge is for sure one of our most important projects, having a completely new structure and showing the technical part of our Association. A regional structure was initiated, bringing together for the first time Commitments to help each other grow, by focusing on the improvement of the network. Moreover, with the implementation of Team Boards, we managed to see a huge improvement in the activity and the results of our international teams. Last but not least, we would like to thank all of our Leaders, Coordinators, team members for their time invested in working on the international level and their devotion towards EESTEC. The love that we all share for this Association is what makes EESTEC what it is! Think BIG, Think HUGE, Think EESTEC! The 31st International Board, Maria, Alexander, Dalia, Nenad, Ruxandra

Yearbook Team

Hey EESTECers, we are the group of people that got this Yearbook done!. Throughout the year we have had been working on how to improve the platform and fixing a lot of bugs that it had inside. As we didn’t have much experience on coding it wasn’t an easy job, but we can totally say it was very positive and we learned a lot. The people in this picture are Álvaro Escribano, the actual yearbook manager, and his two little helpers, Nacho Alonso and Alba Delgado. For Álvaro, it was his second year working in the yearbook and the first as yearbook manager, taking over the great ancestor Andrés Jimenez Nanhekhan. For Alba and Nacho it was their first year in EESTEC, yaaay active newbies, and it was a great start for
