A Note from the Director...
On a Saturday in early May, 51 students, among them 24 incom ing freshmen, auditioned for a show that wouldn’t start rehearsing until the far-off land of August, seemingly four lifetimes away. This amazing and relatively-new piece of comedic parody was chosen for a number of reasons, one of which was the expandability of the cast size. As a result, today we present to you one of the largest casts in the history of Episcopal High School and I could not be more im pressed with them. They are funny and fun-loving, conscientious and talented. They bring amazing energy and joy to the stage and have made this show a pleasure to direct. All in all, including the Stagecraft classes who built and lit the show during class time, Puffs has a group of nearly 100 EHS students directly involved in production. Their work encompasses more than 6000 student hours of commitment to the play.
For fans of the Harry Potter books or movies, Puffs is full of throw backs, easter eggs and sideways references that will add new life and love to the works. For those less familiar with the Wizarding World, Puffs is a fast and furious comedic juggernaut full of sight gags and crazy characters. We have had a blast putting it together and are excited to share it with you!
Welcome to Puffs! The show about that whole magical universe span ning 7 books and that has children who learn magic and fight an evil wizard! You know the one….yeah, that one!
No show goes up without a true army of help and support. Special thanks to George Brock, Garmon Ashby, Jay Berckley, Katherine Weigand, John Herda, Robin Bowman, Peter Hutcheson, Tessa Twi ford, Kristina Burgess for their enduring support of the show and the theatre program. Thank you to the parents who volunteer to feed us and assist with production, and to all of the parents for the inevitable adjustments to family routine the production process involves. And a special thanks to Student Assistant Director Taliana Stoy for regularly going above and beyond throughout the process.
