A Note From the Director of The Cave... We are so happy to show you what months of learning lines, staging the show, and rehearsing have created! The Cave is a light, airy show with heavy undertones. Through the interactions of an improvisational group, we search for answers to deep questions. Tim Kelly, the playwright responsible for The Cave, is a successful writer whose works have been published for Samuel French, Pioneer Drama Service, and Contemporary Drama Service, among others. He is honored for his “contributions to the field of playwriting” by Emerson College, where he received his bachelor’s degree. He also received a master’s degree in play-writing from Yale University. Some of his other works include A Darker Flower, The Trunk, and Die Blum. This process has been one of learning for myself, my stage managers, and the cast themselves. We dealt with several setbacks and roadblocks but took them in stride, pushing onward with dogged determination. Sharing this experience with my cast and crew has been the highlight of my final months at EHS, and there is no-one I’d rather share my final works as a high schooler with. If the cast were to describe my directing style, I believe some words they would use would include “chaotic,” “energetic,” and hopefully “understandable and helpful.” However, the words I used most often would just be a period of stuttering, followed by “do the thing!” In any case, we are proud to share our work with you tonight! Please keep all hands and feet inside your seat at all times and enjoy the show! Colin McCormick ’22 (Director of The Cave) is thrilled to work with such a talented cast of peers! This is their first directing opportunity, but they have been heavily involved in the theatre at EHS all four years! Finally, they are so proud of all the work this cast has put in, and hope you enjoy The Cave!

We are so proud of you Stella Marie Frank! May theater arts always be a part of your life and may you always be surrounded by your theater family:) Love, Mom, Dad, Lauren, Jessica, Joshua, Sawyer, Meemaw and Pepaw

A Note from the Director of And Action... Welcome! Thank you for coming to the Student Directed One Acts. Tonight, you will see a show called And Action, written by Eleanor Burgess, about a group of friends trying to film a movie in their attic. It demonstrates the struggles of collaboration and the messy nature of friendship. Although the show has a light and silly tone, it also conveys the deeper truths of what it is like to be young and less than equipped to handle the complex problems and emotions of the adult world. The cast has worked incredibly hard to portray these wacky characters in a way that will remain authentic to Burgess’ original point. They have devoted long days at rehearsal for the past 2 months and have been flexible in their approach to the characters. We tried a variety of versions of each character, and their creativity in relation to the process never ceased to impress me. The stage manager, Taliana Stoy, has also been an instrumental part of the process. She has worked tirelessly, helping me complete all the tedious tasks that are less glamourous than what people typically associate with theater. With all these lovely people around me it is easy to see why I chose to put on a play about the values of friendship during your youth. I am so grateful for all that they have done to make this production go, and I hope you enjoy the show!

Bella Marquez ’23 (Director of And Action) is very excited to be a part of her 11th production at Episcopal. She has previously performed in over 20 other productions including Snow White (Sneezy), Anne of Green Gables (Diana), Peter Pan (Wendy), and most recently Chicago: HSE (Ensemble). They have previously worked on Twelfth Night (sound), Letters to Sala (sound), Beauty and the Beast (lighting), and a previous one-act, Upper West Side Story (Jack).
