After 40 year wait, Warriors bring home NBA title Después de 40 años, los Warriors ganan el título de la NBA franchise history at 67-15. Klay Thompson broke the NBA record for most points in a quarter with 37 on Jan. 23. Curry shattered his previous record of most 3-pointers in a regular season of 272 with a new mark of 286. And Andre Iguodala, who hadn’t started the entire regular season, earned the title of Finals MVP with his stellar defensive play against LeBron James, who is widely considered the best basketball player in the world.

T

he game, which Bay Area basketball fans had waited 40 years for, was over well before the Cleveland Cavaliers’ J.R. Smith launched the last shot of the NBA finals.

As Smith’s desperate 3-pointer recoiled off the front rim, the regular season’s Most Valuable Player, Stephen Curry, waited patiently beneath the basket for the game’s final rebound. Before the final buzzer sounded, Curry hurled the basketball into the heavens. The most beloved Golden State Warrior, and perhaps the greatest 3-point shooter of all time, had finally led the Bay Area’s basketball team to an NBA championship, beating the Cleveland Cavaliers 105-97 on June 16.

As Curry—who finished the game with 25 points, eight assists and six rebounds—and the Warriors celebrated before the vanquished and proud crowd at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, hundreds of fans swarmed Bay Area streets in celebration.

According to NBC Bay Area, only 12 people were arrested in San Francisco for public intoxication, including one for resisting arrest, and another for battery of an officer after someone hurled a

bottle at authorities.

In Oakland, where 20,000 fans gathered at Oracle Arena to watch Game 6, there were even fewer arrests. NBC Bay Area reported only two arrests, eight citations for various violations, and zero reports of vandalism.

The NBA title punctuated the best season in Golden State’s history. Steve Kerr set the NBA record for most wins by a rookie head coach with 67, also setting the best Warriors record in

BAY AREA San Francisco: Mayor announces $50 million for affordable housing Ed Lee’s proposed $250 million housing bond has been increased to $300 million the mayor announced, with the extra funds going to affordable housing. District 9 Supervisor David Campos, whose recent proposal for a temporary moratorium on luxury housing in the Mission was voted down by the board of supervisors, called it a “huge victory.” The bond will appear on the November ballot where it will require a two-thirds voter approval to pass.

Netfilx to expand Spanish-language programming

Facebook founder and wife donate $5 mil to DREAMers Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan have announced that they will donate $5 million through their Dream.US program to create 400 college scholarships for undocumented youth in the Bay Area. The Dream.US will give scholarships of up to $25,000 for four-year colleges or $12,500 for two-year degreees. Recipients must be eligible for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status. “If we help more young immigrants climb the ladder to new opportunities, then our country will make greater progress,” Zuckerberg wrote in a Facebook post.

CALIFORNIA Labor Commission rules that UBER drivers are employees, not contractors The California Labor Commission has ruled that drivers for the ride-sharing service UBER are actually employees of the company rather than independent contractors.

The decision will likely dramatically impact UBER and its competitors such as Lyft and Sidecar, who have until this point made billions without having to pay payroll taxes or grant workers basic labor rights such as workman’s comp, unemployment and even minimum wage.

El Tecolote Archives Senate approves health coverage for CA undocumenteds The highly contested SB4, the so-called “health for all” bill, has been approved by the California State Senate after being somewhat scaled back. The original bill would have given subsidized Medi-Cal to all regardless of immigration status. The new version of the bill will make 240,000 minors eligible to sign up for Medi-Cal, and allow certain low-income adults to sign up for a different program that provides similar services, while those with higher incomes can buy non-subsidized coverage through Covered California, with federal government permission.

NATIONAL U.S. deports thousands for minor drug offenses, new report reveals Each year the United States deports tens of thousands of people for minor drug offenses according to a new report from Human Rights Watch.

Titled “A Price Too High: U.S. Families Torn Apart by Deportations for Drug Offenses,”

Netflix, the popular streaming video streaming service, has announced it has partnered with U.S. Hispanic networks Univision and Telemundo and international network Caracol to bring more classic Spanish-language programming to Latino audiences in the United States. The company, which now produces its own original content, also announced the creation of its first original series en español.

The comedic drama “Club de Cuervos” is scheduled to premiere Aug. 7.

Board stalls on legislation regulating Airbnb Elisabetta Silvestro El Tecolote

A

fter months of discussions on how to amend the socalled “Airbnb law” in order to better enforce it, the Board of Supervisors—presented with two competing bills—voted 7-4 on June 9 to postpone their decision for one month.

“We passed a framework last year. Now, let’s take the time to get it right,” said District 2 Supervisor Mark Farrell, who along with the mayor’s office, sponsored one of the two proposed bills.

The current law, which was introduced in August of 2014, went into effect Feb. 1, eliminating the city’s long-held ban on residential rentals of less than 30 days in multi-unit buildings. It imposed a series of restrictions including that Airbnb hosts register with the city, paying a $50 fee every two years. Hosts, whether they are the building owner or tenants, are also required to live in the units they are offering as short-term rentals at least nine months a year; hosts who are tenants must inform their landlords; and a hotel tax of 14 percent must be paid by the host. These regulations, however, were largely considered unenforceable.

Even though more than 6,000 units are listed on Airbnb for San Francisco, the San Francisco Examiner reported that as of May 2015, only 330 were registered with the city.

The Board of Supervisors’ Budget and Legislative Analyst found that between 925 and 1,960 units, or about 23 percent of the city’s vacant units, have been removed from the housing market to be listed on Airbnb— with Mission, Haight, the Castro

and Potrero Hill neighborhoods most impacted.

“It’s the neighborhoods with the highest numbers of evictions that see the largest number of Airbnb rentals,” said District 9 Supervisor David Campos, who sponsored the other alternative bill and opposed the postponement of the vote. “The last thing that we need is to give the lobbyists of Airbnb more time to do what they have been doing for the last couple of years.”

District 11 Supervisor John Avalos, who supported the Campos bill and voted against the postponement, agreed.

“A vote for continuance is really a vote for Airbnb,” he said, and then referenced the recent demonstration supporting the failed moratorium on luxury housing in the Mission. “If we vote to continue today … we are saying that their voices don’t matter.”

Almost 40 percent of vacant units in the Mission are being rented through short-term rental agreements like Airbnb and other hosting sites, according to Maria Zamudio, a housing rights organizer with Causa Justa : Just Cause.

“Addressing the housing crisis needs to be a multipronged approach. We need to stop illegal conversions of unregulated hotels, and that’s what [Campos’] measure does,” Zamudio said.

“It’s going to be able to keep more people in their homes.”

Two separate approaches to regulation Both bills included many similar provisions (such as limits to the number of days per year that hosts can rent) to discourage owners from keeping units off the

long-term market to make money from platforms such as Airbnb.

While Campos proposed a 60-day cap, Farrell supported a 120-day limit. Also, two things Campos considered crucial for the enforcement of the law were not in Farrell’s legislation: prohibiting hosting platforms from posting units not registered with the city and fining them if they do so; and requiring them to provide data to the planning department.

This last point was the most divisive. For the supporters of Campos’ legislation it was a key element, but for the opponents it was a privacy violation.

“There’s really no way for the City and the Planning Department to know whether a host has slept in their unit that night or not,” District 6 Supervisor Jane Kim said.

Under current law, hosting platforms have no responsibility for the units listed on their websites. According to Campos, just holding the platforms accountable would make sure that the illegal activity stops.

“Even though they are making millions of dollars, they believe that they have no responsibility whatsoever when it comes to the enforcement of this law,” Campos said.

The majority of the supervisors believed there were good points in both bills but they needed more time to find a compromise.

Supervisors Scott Wiener and Julie Christensen believed the Campos’ legislation would make the Airbnb casual users—those who use the platform to make ends meet—pay for the “bad actors.”

“Sixty days is not going to meet the needs of these people.”

Even though everyone agreed that waiting for the November ballot wasn’t the right way to approach the issue, that might just

be what happens if amendments to the law are not approved.

“Let the voters do what the Board of Supervisors should have done a long time ago, which is to make sure that this 20-billiondollar corporation plays by the rules like everyone else,” Campos said.

arrived from El Salvador in 1980. I had left behind friends, family, strikes, the dead, a civil war that even though I had left it behind, it was never too far away.

The one who had just invited me to the poetry reading didn’t know if I was a poet or if I was from El Salvador. But maybe my looks betrayed me. Maybe he recognized the fear of war that still lived on in my eyes, the feeling of wanting to scream and cry at the same time. Maybe he recognized in me the pupusas or my loneliness.

That night I arrived on time at the bookstore, timid and shaking with fear and with my folded papers in my pocket. The man who had invited me was there.

would visit the coffee house. Here they spoke Spanish and would allow people to sit for hours at a table. People would converse and read. At La Boheme I didn’t feel so sad and lonely.

One morning while I was working cleaning tables, a young man arrived with books under his arms. Must be a student, I imagined. The man was thin and medium height, with a pleasant smile like a bird, and he said to me, “Tonight we are going to be reading poetry for El Salvador at Book Works.” This bookstore used to be between 24th and 25th Streets on Mission Street.

Me gustaba trabajar ahí, incluso cuando me tocaba descansar, visitaba ese cafetín. Ahí hablaban español y dejaban sentarse en las mesas por horas, la gente conversaba y leía. En La Bohème no me sentía tan solo ni tan triste.

Una mañana mientras limpiaba las mesas llegó un joven con libros bajo su brazo, será estudiante, imaginé. El hombre era delgado y de estatura mediana, con una amable sonrisa de pájaro, me dijo: “Hoy por la noche vamos a estar leyendo poesía para El Salvador en Bookworks”. El que acaba de invitarme a esa lectura de poesía no sabía si yo era poeta o mucho menos si venía de El Salvador. Quizás me delató el espanto de la guerra que aún vivía en mis ojos, las ganas de gritar y de llorar a la vez. Quizás reconoció en mí las pupusas o la soledad.

Esa noche llegué a la hora indicada, tímido y tembloroso, con miedo y con unos papeles doblados en mi bolsa; ahí estaba el hombre que me había invitado.

“Tenemos entre nosotros a un poeta que recién ha venido de El Salvador, un sobreviviente de la terrible guerra, de la injusticia que está viviendo ese país, démosle la bienvenida al poeta Jorge Argueta”, dijo Juan Felipe Hererra.

Así me invitó y recibió en 1980, el ahora Poeta Laureado de los EEUU a mi primera lectura de poesía en San Francisco. Muchas gracias Juan Felipe Herrera, me enorgullece ser tu amigo, hoy celebro contigo los campos y la maravillosa lluvia de la poesía.

Is Mission High School safe for LGBTQ students?

Our society and our schools were built to fit ‘boy’ or ‘girl,’ and not people who transition,” said Mission High School student Rexy Amaral, who identifies as gay and who, also being a drag performer, sometimes dresses in female clothing to go to school.

“Before I came out to anyone really, I didn’t want to be who I am. I often thought of my sexuality and gender as something bad...

I wanted to be a regular boy, who liked girls, who played sports, and was super handsome,” remembers Amaral.

Our society is like a computer’s binary system: it only accepts 0 and 1, and will not work if you add 3 or 4 or 5 to it. In a Binary Gender System only two types exist: straight men who are tough, masculine and unemotional, and straight women who are expected to be weak, gentle and feminine.

“Don’t hit like a girl”, says the football coach, according to some students. This expression uses femininity to show weakness and shows feminine nature has not fully accomplished respect in our society.

Lack of awareness about the LGBTQ community can lead to a stressful life for students like Rexy, who was bullied before coming out. Rexy remembers:

“In 7th grade, my second week at Horace Mann I was beaten up by three students, while there were a bunch of students watching.”

LGBTQ students can get bullied easily when teachers aren’t around.

“There is a lot of stuff that we don’t see,” says MHS English teacher Clemevel Fuentacilla.

“The hallways, stairways, when there aren’t teachers around, there will be students who try to mess with them.”

Our school is safer for LGBTQ students than it was before though.

“I wouldn’t say that this is the unsafest place. I know there are some students here who are out as trans, as gay, or bi, and feel safe,” said Taica Hsu, math teacher at MHS and mentor for the GayStraight Alliance (GSA) club.

At the GSA club, students and teachers discuss how to make school a better place for LGBTQ students and raise awareness about different sexual orientations and genders that some students might not be aware of or understand.

GSA club organizes events for the LGBTQ community at MHS. One of the biggest events is the annual Drag Show, where people perform during school assembly.

They dance and tell stories about coming out as LGBTQ to their families, friends or at school.

People can propose with a ring pop and get a marriage certificate.

There is also National Coming Out Day, when people come out as whomever they want. And another big event is the national

Day Of Silence. Teachers and students wear tape over their mouths and take a vow of silence to show the world what it would be like if LGBTQ people did not exist.

“It’s the way to show the world that there are way more LGBTQ people than you think,” said Hsu.

“When [people] see the show or meet someone who is LGBTQ, it really changes their perception about [the] community.”

“LGBTQ students are like any other,” said Ms. Fuentecilla.

“They may feel bad, they may feel confused, weird or wrong, but it’s okay to be gay.”

Nuestra sociedad es como el sistema binario de una computadora: sólo acepta 0 y 1, y no funciona si se le añade 3, 4 ó 5. En un sistema binario de género existen sólo dos tipos: los hombres heterosexuales que son rudos, varoniles y sin emociones, y las mujeres heterosexuales de quienes se espera sean débiles, gentiles y femeninas.

“No golpees como una niña”, dice el entrenador de fútbol, según algunos estudiantes. Esta expresión refiere a la feminidad como sinónimo de debilidad y muestra que la naturaleza femenina no ha logrado plenamente el respeto en nuestra sociedad.

La falta de conciencia acerca de la comunidad LGBTQ puede conducir a una vida estresante para estudiantes como Rexy, quien fue intimidado antes de declararse abiertamente. Rexy recuerda: “en séptimo grado, mi segunda semana en la escuela Horace Mann fui golpeado por tres estudiantes, mientras un grupo de estudiantes solo observaban”.

Cuba’s classic car culture /// Cultura de los autos clásicos de Cuba uba is the only place on earth where cars from the 1950s still dominate the streets.

Images of those cars are as symbolic of Cuban culture as are images of Ché Guevara; the classic two-tone ’57 Chevy Bel Air hardtop is on all the tourist websites.

On a trip to Cuba last month, I was struck by the great variety of 1950s cars on the road. Many of them are taxis. I saw lots of Chevys and Fords, but also many Buicks, Oldsmobiles, Chryslers, a few Cadillacs, Dodges, Plymouths, and even a couple of Studebakers and DeSotos— lots of tail fins too on the late-50s models.

In the United States we only see these in car shows, but Cuba’s cars are of a different breed. They are everyday, working vehicles amidst the scarcity of parts, paint and polish caused by U.S. embargo. Cubans are forced to improvise and the results are a wonderful kaleidoscope of unique paint jobs, hand-crafted parts and countless, special touches that give those cars a special character.

A few cars are nicely restored with great paint jobs, but most others mirror the scarcity found throughout Cuba today. Some cars have mismatched tires, headlights and other parts, including engines. Many have unique, individual touches like decorative lights mounted on fenders and trunks, fancy hood ornaments and fans mounted on dashboards.

Some cars even have improvised grills. A few cars have been altered so much it was hard to tell their year, make or model...but still they run, adding to the island’s unique ambiance. The resourcefulness and imagination evident in their cars extends to the daily lives of Cubans.

They make do with what they have, but also hope for an end to the embargo that keeps many of the most basic necessities out of their reach.

by Oakland Police on June 6.

Hogg, who had been living in Hayward California, was family man with two children, who reportedly carried a gun for protection only.

Hogg’s family is demanding the name of the officer(s) involved in the shooting and the release of the video taken by the body cameras that OPD officers are required to wear.

As of this time, Oakland police have released neither the video nor the names.

Luxury development doesn’t solve the city’s housing crisis

n June 2, more than 800 Mission residents gathered at City Hall to support a temporary halt to the construction of luxury or “market-rate” housing in the Mission District. The community spoke loud and clear in favor of a moratorium on luxury housing, yet after eight hours of testimony, the board failed to heed the pleas of hundreds.

Though seven supervisors voted “yes” and four “no,” the “no” votes by Supervisors Weiner and Farrell (who are both seeking election to higher office), and Supervisors Tang and Christiansen (who are beholden to Mayor Lee) were enough to prevent the ninevote supermajority needed to enact the measure.

The oversupply of marketrate units has made housing less affordable and made Mission residents fearful about the longterm survival of their community.

On June 2, Mission residents testified about the changing face of

the neighborhood, as well as the changing faces, the displacement of their neighbors due to evictions and ridiculously high rent, and small businesses being priced out of the market and replaced by businesses that cater to a higher paying clientele. Many Mission residents testified that they now feel like strangers in the neighborhood they grew up in.

The practice of permitting unrestrained market-rate development continues despite the stated goals of the city to build housing that is affordable to its residents. Last year’s Proposition K set a goal of making 33 percent of new housing units affordable to low- and moderateincome households (which for a family of four means incomes of less than $81,500 and $122,300 respectively), and that 50 percent be affordable to middle-class households (incomes less than $152,850).

In the Mission District, there are 478 housing units either under construction or approved for construction, and only 34 units (7 percent) affordable to low- and moderate-income residents—far short of the 50 percent affordability goal. Using any measure, whether it be the goals of Proposition K, The Eastern Neighborhoods Plan, or the targets set by the Association of Bay Area Governments, the city has failed to meet its affordable housing goals.

Apologists for the status quo have known all along that the practice of rubber-stamping luxury developments isn’t helping to solve the housing crisis.

Ecuadorian minister champions the good life Alexis Terrazas El Tecolote

T

he minister of Ecuador’s State Secretary Presidential Initiative for the Society of Good Life, Freddy Ehlers, spoke at this year’s Love Summit in Portland, Oregon on June 13. The journalist and former politician has been the minister of Good Living since 2013 and visited the Bay Area earlier this month to promote the idea and message of a happy world, where countries redefine the concept of progress and development. He spoke with El Tecolote on June 11.

For those who aren’t familiar with the concept of “Good Living,” what is it?

FE: It comes from an ancient Quechua word, “Sumak kawsay,” which is good living. In English it’s not easy to translate with just one word. In Spanish it’s also not easy to understand it. It’s the integral wellbeing of a person, not just the material. The idea is that the purpose of our life is to be happy. And if you practice a conscious life, this will take you to good living, and good living will lead to happiness.

What constitutes a conscious life?

FE: It is a life in which one has a thorough understanding of oneself and the world around him. If we do not change, nothing will change. The world will not change. Countries will not change for the better if humans do not. So that’s why it is very important the work we’re doing with the ministry of education and health, so that we understand that our lives should follow a new life model. Because people have

a lot, but they’re not happy. So what good is accumulating, having more and more, for just one small group to become enriched.

For one percent of the world to have so much money—so much money they don’t know what to do with it—meanwhile the rest of the world lives in poverty and necessity...but the problem is not economic, the problem is what’s inside of us.

What is the world’s problem?

FE: The problem in the world, in my opinion, is that we are imposing the model of the one percent on 99 percent humanity. And it’s a lie. We are selling a lie. We are deceiving the world. And that’s why there is so much dissatisfaction.

Because in the media...a world is being presented that is impossible for everybody to obtain. So those who don’t live like that become frustrated.You do not need much, the most important thing is to live with family.

How has your past as a journalist and as a politician helped you now as the minister of good living?

FE: It helped me a lot because as a journalist I am a very curious person. Asking why do cars function, why do airplanes fly, why does corruption exist, as there is so much injustice. We are always trying to answer questions. The big question of life, the one I asked after 15 or 20 years as a journalist, was who am I? I didn’t know who I was. Who am I beyond being a journalist, being man, being Ecuadorian, beyond that, who am I? It’s the most important thing in life. As [Nelson] Mandela said, we are infinitely more beautiful, good

Photo Alexis Terrazas and free—a wonderful species, but we live like slaves, slaves of ourselves. And to be happy, which is the reason for human existence, little is needed. The essentials of life are needed. And the rest of the time we share with others. We live in paradise, but we don’t realize it.

Because we live caught trying to find happiness outside ourselves.

But it takes a long time to understand that.

How do you respond to those who say that the idea of Good Living is a crazy idea?

FE: Well, I would tell them that I am very excited, I am very happy and glad because I have seen in especially the scientific and aca-

demic communities, with whom we have spoken, huge support for us. We were just with Jim Doti, a great neurosurgeon who is working with the Dalai Lama, Eckhart Tolle, with some of the world’s most important figures, about how our brains work at laboratories in Stanford. He fully agrees with us. There is a union for the first time in the history of mankind between science, love, spirituality and common sense to realize that life can be lived to the fullest. The world can accommodate all people. You can see a world without poverty and suffering. Because oftentimes those who suffer most are those who have more.

This sounds like a good idea, but for people from poorer countries, it sounds like a difficult idea to practice.

FE: It doesn’t matter if you are poor or not. If you are very poor, it is very difficult to be happy. But you do not need much. The problem is that when you stop being poor, you become a consumerist, and consumerism is just as bad as poverty. And then you continue being poor for the rest of your life.

As [Jose] Mujica, the President of Uruguay says, “Poor is not so much who has more or who has less. The truly poor is the one who desires more, more and more, and is never satisfied.”

l ministro de la Secretaría del Buen Vivir del gobierno de Ecuador, Freddy Ehlers, se presentó durante el Love Summit en Portland, Oregón el 13 de junio. El periodista y ex político ha sido el ministro del Buen Vivir desde 2013, y visitó el Área de la Bahía para promocionar el mensaje e idea de un mundo feliz, donde los países redefinan el concepto de progreso y desarrollo. El ministro Ehlers habló con El Tecolote el 11 de junio.

Para la gente que no sabe del concepto Buen vivir, qué es?

FE: Viene de una antigua palabra quechua, Sumak kawsay, que significa Buen Vivir. En inglés no es fácil traducir con una sola palabra. En español tampoco es fácil entenderlo. Es el bienestar integral del ser humano, no solo el material. La idea es que la razón de nuestra vida es ser felices. Y solamente si practicas una vida consciente, eso te lleva al buen vivir y el buen vivir a la felicidad. ¿Qué significa una vida consciente?

FE: Es una vida en la cual uno tiene un pleno conocimiento de uno mismo y del mundo que le rodea. Si no cambiamos, nada va cambiar. El mundo no va cambiar. Los países no cambiarán para bien, mientras los seres humanos no lo hagan. Por eso es un trabajo muy profundo con el ministerio de educación y el de salud, para que tengamos el entendimiento de que nuestra vida debe tener un nuevo modelo de vida. Porque la gente tiene mucho pero no es feliz. Entonces de qué sirve acumular, tener más y más, para que

en grupo pequeño se enriquezca.

Para que el uno porciento del mundo tenga mucho dinero — tanto dinero que no sepa qué hacer con él— y mientras tanto el resto del mundo vive con necesidades y en la pobreza… pero el problema no es económico, el problema es lo que hay dentro de ti. ¿Cual es el problema del mundo?

FE: El problema del mundo en mi opinión, es que estamos poniendo un modelo del 1% para el 9% de la humanidad. Y es una mentira.

Estamos vendiendo una mentira.

Estamos engañado al mundo. Y por eso hay tanta insatisfacción.

Porque en los medios de comunicación…se presenta un mundo que es imposible tener para todos. Entonces el que no vive de esa forma y a esos niveles se frustra. No es necesario tener tanto, lo más importante es vivir con la familia. ¿Cómo te ayudó tu pasado como periodista y como político con el ministro de buen vivir?

FE: Me ayudó muchísimo porque como periodista he sido una persona muy curiosa. Preguntar por qué se mueven los autos, por qué vuelan los aviones, por qué existe la corrupción, pues hay tanta injusticia. Todo el tiempo estamos tratando de buscar responder las preguntas. La gran pregunta de la vida, a la que yo llegué hace 15 años ó 20 luego de practicar mucho el periodismo fue, quién soy yo.Y no sabía quién era. Quién soy más allá de ser periodista, de ser hombre, de ser ecuatoriano, más allá de eso, ¿quién soy? Es lo más importante en la vida. Como

decía [Nelson] Mandela, somos infinitamente más hermosos, buenos y libres —una especie maravillosa, pero vivimos como esclavos, esclavos de nosotros mismos.

Y para ser feliz, que es la razón de la existencia humana, se necesita poco. Se necesita lo esencial para vivir. Y el resto del tiempo compartir con los demás. Vivimos en el paraíso, pero no nos damos cuenta. Porque vivimos atrapados tratando de encontrar la felicidad fuera de nosotros. Pero toma mucho tiempo entender eso. ¿Cómo respondes a los que dicen que la idea de Buen Vivir es una idea loca?

FE: Bueno, decirles que estoy muy entusiasmado, estoy muy feliz y contento porque he visto en las comunidades, sobre todo la científica y académica, con quienes hemos hablado, un enorme respaldo. FE: No importa si eres pobre o no. Si eres muy pobre, es muy difícil ser feliz. Pero no necesitas tanto. El problema es que cuando dejas de ser pobre, te conviertes en consumista, y el consumismo es igualmente peor que la pobreza. Y sigues siendo pobre toda la vida. Como dice el presidente de Uruguay, [José] Mujica, “pobre no es tanto el que más tiene o

el que menos tiene. El verdadero pobre es el que desea más, más y más, y nunca está satisfecho”.
