SUPPORTING THE RFDS During June Elders confirmed an extension of its commitment to the Royal Flying Doctors Service (Central Division) through a $300,000 contribution to its capitalraising program for the perennial upgrade of its fleet of flying intensive care units. This is an investment in the health and wellbeing of the rural and regional communities in which we operate, and who support our teams and business every day. I had the pleasure of celebrating this arrangement with a visit aboard the Elders branded RFDS “Whiskey” aircraft to the aeromedical base located at Port Augusta to learn more about the critical services they provide to outback residents and visitors. The RFDS Operations Communications Centre is located in Port Augusta, which receives all emergency calls and plans and assigns all 24-hour emergency retrieval and inter-hospital transfer missions throughout SA/NT. We all know how critically important these emergency responses are, however I was surprised to learn that the base is also a headquarters for primary health care services, including telehealth services and remote ‘fly-in’ primary health clinics offering specialist chronic disease management, mental health, oral health, maternal health, Aboriginal health and community health services. In fact, in 2020 the RFDS (Central Operations) delivered more than 46,000 episodes of care including: • 9,053 aeromedical evacuations; • 6,268 digital health consultations; • 10,425 face-to-face primary health consultations; • 1,111 face-to-face mental health consultations;

• 647 face-to-face oral health consultations; • and 948 immunisations administered at remote clinics. Nationally, the RFDS delivers more than 370,000 episodes of care across Australia every year – equivalent to someone every two minutes. The RFDS is a not-for-profit organisation. While supported by Commonwealth, State and Territory governments, it depends on bequests, fundraising and donations to bridge the gap in operational funding and to finance its capital-raising program for the replacement of aircraft, medical equipment and other major capital initiatives. If you would like to join Elders in supporting the RFDS, please visit one of their divisional websites today and make a donation.

WA Market Update SIMON CHEETHAM SENIOR RURAL REAL ESTATE EXECUTIVE There is certainly an air of confidence throughout rural WA. For the most part, crops and pastures are off to an excellent start. Widespread rains have been received across the state during Autumn and Winter and most districts are looking exceptionally good. On the back of good opening rains and some attractive commodity prices, WA has planted what is thought to be our biggest ever winter crop, with canola plantings in particular jumping in 2021 after hitting record high prices being reached earlier in the year. Many of our pastoral regions are also enjoying one of their better years in recent times, with an abundance of feed coupled with strong cattle prices creating a very buoyant market for the few stations which have come up for sale. The horticultural industries within WA have also been receiving an increasing level of interest and attention, with it being widely accepted WA offers some untapped potential in the areas with good water supply. Despite some hiccups, including the damage caused by Cyclone Seroja in April to districts within the Geraldton Port zone and dare we say it, too much rain for some in Southern areas, the state as a whole is set up nicely for a strong production year.

4

eldersrealestate.com.au

Rural properties remain keenly sought after, with strong demand still being received for lifestyle, broadacre cropping, high rainfall grazing, horticulture and pastoral properties. Price growth for WA farmland has been strong through 2019 and 2020, with the 2021 Australian Farmland Values report produced by Rural Bank indicating WA farmland experienced a massive 19.3% jump in median prices in 2020. The report indicated strong growth was experienced in all areas, although strongest in the Geraldton port Zone and the South Coast of WA. Currently, the amount of available farmland in Western Australia remains limited. As we head into our traditional selling season, additional properties will come onto the market, however it is not thought there will be a major influx. The confidence and opportunities within WA agriculture is seeing expansion rather than consolidation remaining to be the focus of most growers. Given the pent-up demand for rural properties, particularly for quality properties of scale, it would appear the strong prices being achieved could continue for some time to come. Wishing our growers and readers all the best for the remainder of 2021 Simon Cheetham 0428 147 359 simon.cheetham@elders.com.au

‘MELVILLE PARK’ BRUNSWICK, WA 54.77 Hectares / 135.33 Acres ‘Melville Park’ is not only an important piece of Western Australian history, it also offers buyers a prime grazing, lifestyle and business opportunity. Settled shortly after 1849 by the Flaherty family and then taken over by Alfred Moore. It was further developed by Samuel McKay, who built the homestead and barn and was known for his thoroughbred horses at Melville Park, including the 1898 winner of the Perth Cup, a stallion called LeVar. The large Edwardian/Federation styled brick and tiled homestead features extensive verandas and was constructed in the 1880s. Having now been beautifully restored inside and out, including new iron roof, modernised bathrooms and kitchen, added family room, office and polished jarrah flooring. 8

eldersrealestate.com.au

The double storey brick and iron barn/ stables with projecting central winch beam and doors over carriage opening was completed in 1895. The stooks of hay were stored in the loft above the horses. The barn has an excellently preserved wood block floor, one of the best in the State, along with two front rooms that were originally used for the groom’s quarters and harness room. Original still in nature, one of the front rooms now houses a small farm shop. The barn has multiple possible uses to continue the profile. This is the first opportunity for you to purchase ‘Melville Park’ since its makeover so you can become only the third family to take up residence since the Shine Family purchased the farm in 1927.
