Welcome to second issue of The Resident Plus. The first issue proved to be a great success and the response has given us many ideas for the way forward, in particular we are looking for collaborations with anyone who is interested in working with us to create a true online community publication. We are inviting readers to submit articles on any subject close to their heart, with just one proviso, it must have a local connection and be of interest to our audience. Submissions should be made to editor@theresident.eu by the 26th of the March. Spanish Government imposes 110 km/h maximum speed limit The Spanish Government has approved a bundle of ‘energy-saving’ measures designed to offset the impact of the current turmoil in the Middle East and the hike in oil prices. From the 7 March there will be a reduction of the maximum speed limit on all of Spain’s motorways and toll roads from the current 120 km/h to 110 km/h. The government claims that this measure will see a reduction in fuel use of 11%

for diesel and 15% for petrol, although some cynics might see it as another opportunity to generate income from speeding fines! Although the change has been described as a temporary measure there is no indication as to when it may be lifted. On the positive side other measures introduced included a 5% cut in ticket prices on the local Cercanias and medium distance rail routes.

Electricity meters giving the game away The Spanish government have begun an offensive against all forms of tax evasion including cases where property owners are renting out the properties without declaring the income or paying taxes. One giveaway is the electricity

consumption in properties which gives an indication of the level of occupancy. Another source of information can be found in newspapers and on the internet where properties are being offered for rent.

Gadafi properties on the Costa del Sol could be seized as a result of international sanctions against the Libyan regime The repercussions of the turmoil in Libya have spread to the Costa del Sol where the Gadafi regime holds some considerable assets the largest being the finca de La Resinera, a 6,500 hectare plot in Benahavis on which plans for a development of 1,915 homes, a hotel and golf course were in the advance stages of negotiation. Besides this holding, the Gadafi family also own two properties in Marbella, which are used by the Libyan

leader’s son and daughter; and land in both Sabinillas and Sotogrande.

Galliano rapped for antisemitic rant One of Gibraltar’s most famous sons has got himself into hot water after he was accused of assaulting a couple and making antisemitic insults following a drinking session at a Paris bar. Fashion designer John Galliano was suspended from his position as creative director at the French fashion giant Dior following his altercation with a Jewish Woman and her Asian boyfriend at a fashionable Paris bar. Galliano was born Juan Carlos Antonio Galliano in Gibraltar 1960, son of a Gibraltarian father and a Spanish mother. Introducing

Forward Press boss arrested The boss of controversial publishing firm Forward Press has been arrested in Spain on suspicion of fraud. with the promise that winning entries would be selected for publication in books that Forward Press ‘offered to parents but never handed over once they had paid’, a Spanish Civil Guard spokesman said. Last Saturday 26 February local authorities in Manilva held a ceremony to inaugurate the 5 kilometres of improvements to public roads in the Punta Chullera urbanisation. The works are the culmination of some 30 years of negotiations between the Town Hall and the approximately 70

La Linea police discover Rock ape being kept as a pet Local police in La Linea along with members of the Guardia Civil’s Nature protection body Seprona, were called to a house in La Linea’s Nueva Linea urbanisation following complaints from neighbours that the were keeping a large monkey as a pet. After discussions between the owner and the officers it was agreed that the animal would be donated to a local zoo, which it promptly was.

Kofi Annan will deliver the keynote address at the 3rd edition of the “World Climate Change and Wine Congress” Former United Nations SecretaryGeneral and recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize Kofi Annan will be the honored guest of the 3rd Climate Change and Wine Congress to be held 13-14 April in Marbella Spain. Spain’s coastal southern city takes the baton from Barcelona, host of the congress’s previous editions of 2006 and 2008. The event is being organized by the Wine Academy of Spain and coordinated by its founder, president, and internationallyrecognized authority on climate change and the wine industry, Pancho Campo MW. The previous edition enjoyed the participation of over 350 individuals representing over 40 countries. As with earlier editions this will be directed to wine professionals - businesspeople,

oenologists, scientists, viticulturalists, importers, and sommeliers. The phenomenon of climate change upon winegrowing is effecting the majority of the wine industry, and with it the need for wine producers to respond to it. It was with this premise that the congress was instituted in 2006 to offer solutions to mitigate problems in adapting to the changes in climate and to launch a more environmentally sound business model for the wine industry. During the 1314 April 2011 congress attendees will receive first-hand, timely information about the impact of climate change upon the wine business along with its fundamental relation to oenology and viticulture. In several sessions the congress will also report upon critical subjects for the wine industry such as

closures and other packaging, transport, CO2 emissions, energy conservation, and the use of organic/biodynamic vine growing as measures for adapting to climate change. The list of speakers is comprised of experts from Spain, the United Kingdom, United States, France, Chile, and other countries. The over 20 speakers who will participate in the programme include such notables as biodynamic vititculture’s greatest proponent & author Nicolas Joly, soil scientist Claude Bourguignon, winemaker Carlos Falcó of Spain’s Marques de Griñón, Master of Wine Susan McCraith, and climatologist Greg Jones of the University of Southern Oregon. Telling Gibraltar’s Story to The World

Filmmaker Garrett Gibbons is returning to Gibraltar in early March to finish what he started exactly 10 years before. In March 2001, Garrett visited Gibraltar for a day and was intrigued by the mix of language that he heard on the streets. While studying Linguistics at Brigham Young University a few years later, he searched for more information about Llanito and found that Gibraltar’s culture had received very little international attention. He studied Gibraltar’s people,

language and politics from the USA until he came to the conviction that somebody needed to tell the Llanito story through film. He came to Gibraltar in 2008 with borrowed and rented equipment and interviewed everyone who would talk to him. The 48-minute film he made is still viewable online: http://vimeo.com/3408888 With time, it became clear that the film could use more depth: music, food, sports and representation from more political points of view (notably the GSD). Finally, Garrett will be returning in early March 2011 to complete the film. He updates the film’s blog (www.gibfilm. blogspot.com) and Facebook page (www. facebook.com/PeopleOfTheRock) frequently, so check often to see what’s happening or to voice your input in the creative process! He’s also trying to raise $1,500 to offset the travel costs for this upcoming round of filming. Consider helping the film out and get your name in the credits, an HD download or DVD of the final film, or even an Apple iPad with the film preloaded: http://kck.st/eRARqM

A message from the British Consulate We know that the withdrawal of the old “Residencia” ID cards has caused inconvenience to many British citizens living in Spain. However, ultimately this is a matter for the Spanish Government in the same way that not going ahead with the UK ID card project is a decision taken by the British Government. As you may know, Spain withdrew the Residents Card for EU citizens in order to comply with the EU Directive 2004/38/EC on the freedom of movement within the European Union which prevents a member state from issuing compulsory

ID/residence cards to citizens of another EU country. Nevertheless, we will continue talking to the Spanish authorities in order to find an alternative solution that can help British and other European residents. In the meantime, the only legitimate form of ID for British citizens that is recognised by the Spanish authorities is the British passport, although you may find that a photo driving licence, a photo credit card or a certified copy of your passport is accepted in some shops and stores.

Costa Advice Bureau features written articles on numerous subjects such as, ‘the truth about Inheritance and annual taxes, changes in the rules for registering your family on the census’ referring to the latter, countless non Spanish are not aware that these details must be updated every two years. You can read up on topics that will assist you in deciding whether or not to take up residency. There will be facts on the differences between fiscal and non fiscal resident status, are you liable to make tax declarations and when? Explanations on the legality of your driving status. New rules have come into force and ignorance of these could mean unpleasant surprises in the future. An example of the importance of keeping up to date with occurrences was when in 2010 the regional government gave the go ahead for unregistered country properties to be legalised by drawing up title deeds which were later registered in the land registry. The local Spaniards were quick to take up this offer but most expatriates would not have had the opportunity of receiving this news which was published in the state bulletin giving owners just one month to bring their homes in line with the law. Children’s Aid & Asociacion Niños Necesitados change a life In recent years our charity in Spain Asociacion Ninos Necesitados has had a string of success stories in terms of poor children without hope being given care, hope, education and opportunity. Today we highlight one of our success stories. Rosa, (not her real name as we need to protect her identity) was the daughter of a single mother in a small town in North Africa. The father divorced her mother when Rosa was only about 4 years old and didn’t contribute anything more to the family. The mother struggled to bring Rosa up along with her older sister and younger brother. The children were frequently sent into town to beg for food and money. Rosa often boarded the long distance buses during their stop in her town to tell passengers of her plight and collect a few coins from them. When she was not working the buses, she did the market where she was known as being one of the poor. People buying bread would often buy her a loaf as well. Occasionally, usually on special occasions, she would hit the jackpot when someone would buy her some meat or a chicken. Her life, like that of all her family, was struggling to get enough food everyday to prevent them from going hungry. One day, the founder of Children’s Aid and Asociacion Ninos Necesitados, Anthony Wolseley-Wilmsen, found Rosa and we decided to support her. She was already years behind, education wise, so we decided to give her a targeted education, concentrating on key subjects like French and Spanish language, maths, reading, writing, computing and drama. Rosa turned out to be particularly good at drama and won prizes in that, and was also very strong in computing. These two proved to be foundation blocks to making her dream of entering the film industry a reality. The door was closed to her pursuing this profession in North Africa, but we found a school in Bolivia that was happy to accept her in spite of her limited schooling. Now she

has been three years in Bolivia and has successfully completed a basic all round course in film production. One of her achievements has been to almost singlehandedly produce a 30 minute documentary about the public health system in Bolivia in which she interviewed patients and medical staff in one of the country’s leading hospitals. Another achievement was to produce the script of a highly amusing reality comedy about a poor family where the husband decides, to his wife’s dismay and fury, to sell the family cow and buy a television with the proceeds; this script was chosen out of about 20 others to be produced by all the pupils in her school. The end result was a big hit. Rosa now wants to specialize in producing and directing her own entertaining comedies about everyday life situations, and has been accepted into a more advanced school in Madrid to pursue this; the four year course of study will really equip her as an experienced professional film producer and director.

Rosa’s future as I write is under threat by bureaucracy. To get a visa to study in Spain, she needs either a family or institutional sponsor with a bank statement showing three months with a minimum balance of at least fifteen thousand euros. As a charity we qualify as an institutional sponsor. The cost of the course of 345 euros a month is well within our budget and not a problem for us. However, we run a tight ship and we invest in the lives of quite a few youngsters, all of whom have school or university fees and other needs such as dentists’ bills, food, eye examinations and so on. As a result we rarely have a balance of over a thousand euros lying around in a current account, let alone fifteen thousand. It takes several months to apply for a students visa and her course starts in September. At the time she applies for her visa, we need to have had fifteen thousand euros sitting in our current account for three months. This is really urgent now. European bureaucracy is quite unnecessarily threatening Rosa’s future by putting her advanced studies in jeopardy. It would be comforting if the Spanish Government applied the same strict deposit

DFAS de la Frontera Young Artists Competition - 2011 DFAS de la Frontera is organising and sponsoring the inaugural Young Artists Competition between six schools in the San Roque catchment area. It is open to students from the age of 13 upwards, regardless of whether they are studying art. There is no theme and the students can express themselves in any art form they desire. Each school will select five pieces of art to enter into the competition. The 30 finalists will be photographed and exhibited on the DFAS de la Frontera website (www.nadfas-delafrontera.org) at the beginning of March; members will then be able to vote via email for their favourite piece. The winner of the members’ popular vote will receive 150 Euros. The 30 finalists will then be exhibited from Friday

25th March until lunchtime on Thursday 31st March at the Galeria de Arte, Palacio de los Gobernadores, San Roque. On the afternoon of Thursday 31st a panel of ten invited judges will choose their winner. The panel of judges will include the headmasters (who may not vote for their own school’s entries), Peter Kirrage, Chairman of DFAS de la Frontera, and three artists, Gines Serran, Carlos Pacheco and Nestor Plada. The winner will receive a cash prize of 500 Euros. DFAS de la Frontera encourage everyone to visit the website (www.nadfasdelafrontera.org) and the exhibition (11-2pm and 7-9pm, Monday to Friday).

From The Resident, January 2008

Rosa comes from a small town at the foot of the Atlas mountains, she was born in 1990. Her father was a musician and folk dancer, good enough to be selected for the Moroccan stand in Sevilla at Expo 92. The parents divorced a short time later, and the father left, leaving his wife to fend for herself and three small children. From being a well cared for child in a middle class family, Rosa and her siblings were reduced to begging for food in the streets to survive. Rosa came to our attention in 2001, a poor bedraggled street child but very articulate and very eager to learn, she was desperate to go to school, she had had no education at all. We took her into our “Childrens Aid “ family, “Niños Necesitados” in Spain. We put her in a small private school in Marakech and also paid for her to have extra tuition to bring her on par with the other children. In her years at school she often won prizes for drama and was always in leading roles in school productions. Her dream has always been to enter the film industry, a dream as impossible for her as going to the moon. Because of her excellent school reports and her aptitude for drama (inherited from her father?) she has now been accepted into a very professional drama school for film and film production in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. She is absolutely thrilled, what a difference to the poor mite she was a few years ago. The two year course starts on the 11th February, 2008, we need to get her there about a week before. requirements to their own future liabilities – the reality is they expect us to have a hefty bank balance whereas they operate on zero, relying on deficit financing to survive!!! Whatever the injustice of the situation, we need a miracle now to get our bank balance up to the required amount to ensure that Rosa can continue her education. The story behind the name - Blas Infante

Anyone spending time in this area will inevitably come across the name of Blas Infante, whether it’s the name of Casares’s primary school, or various Calles, Plazas, etc, throughout Andalucia you will regularly see the name. So, who then was Blas Infante? Blas Infante Pérez de Vargas was born in Casares on the 5th July, 1885, the son of Court official, Luis Infante Andrade, and his wife, Ginesa Pérez de Vargas. Blas spent his early childhood in Casares before, at the age of 10, attending secondary school at Archidona, some 50 km north of Malaga, then returning to Casares in 1900, to assist his father in his work as Secretary to the Municipal Courts. After studying law and philosophy at the University of Granada, Blas graduated in 1906 and 1909 found him working as a Notary in Cantillana, Seville. It was whilst in Seville that Blas Infante began to become involved in the cause of Andalucian Nationalism, particularly the Ateneo Sevillano, and his cause was driven by his memories of the poverty and hunger of the Andalucian Jornaleros or day workers in his home town. In 1913 during the celebration of an International Congress in Ronda Blas Infante presented his famous speech that started with the words: “The moment has come for the privileged to die.” He carried on to proclaim that Andalucia is the most fertile land in Spain. Blas Infante also wrote many articles promoting this cause for the magazine “Betica”, and presented a speech at the Ateneo in Seville on “the Andalucian Ideal”. He subsequently wrote a book of the same name. In 1918, Blas initiated an assembly in Ronda, where a charter was adopted along the lines of the 1883 Antequera Constitution, which declared Andalucia an autonomous republic within a Spanish federal state. It was at this Blas Infante - The Father of Andalucia assembly also, that the Andalucia flag of green and white bars was adopted. In 1918-19, Blas Infante was elected Diputado (council representative) for the district of Gaucin-CasaresEstepona. In 1919 he also married Angustias Garcia Pradas with whom he was to father three daughters and a son. During the twenties, Blas moved to Seville and it was at this time that the dictator Miguel Primo de Rivera rose

to power and suspended the constitution, established martial law, imposed strict censorship, and banned all political parties. During this period Blas kept his head down politically, although he did continue to write and also made several visits to Galicia in northern Spain as well as Portugal and Morocco, and it wasn’t until Primo de Rivera stood down in 1930 and the coming of the 2nd Republic in 1931 did Blas become politically active once again, presiding over the Junta Liberalista Andaluza, which fielded various candidates for the ‘Federal Republican Party’, albeit unsuccessfully. In 1931 Blas was appointed as Notary in the town of Coria del Rio in Sevilla and it was here that he built his house which he named Dar-Al-Far (House of Happiness) and was constructed in typical Moorish style. In 1933 Blas was again involved in election campaigning this time for the left wing coalition Izquierda Republicana Andaluza, once more without success which caused considerable disillusionment with the cause. During the following years Infante worked hard to unite Andalucia in the pursuit of autonomy but constantly came up against disputes amongst the individual provinces, and it wasn’t until 1936 and the resurgence of the Popular Front did the Andalucian political movement recover its impetus and during an Assembly in Seville on the 5th of July Blas Infante was declared President of a future autonomous Andalucian State. It was this act that was to prove his death warrant, as later that month General Franco took power and members of his forces arrested Blas at his house. Some days later on the 11th of August Blas Infante was driven to km 4 on the Carmona road where he was shot at the roadside, shouting “Viva Andalucía libre!” (long live a free Andalucia).

Every year tribute is made on Andalucia Day at the memorial in Casares to Blas Infante

Casares presents this year’s Blas Infante Awards

To coincide with the Andalucia Day festivities and to celebrate the ‘Father of Andalucia’ Casares presented the winners of this year’s Blas Infante Awards. Each year Casares presents 0.7% of its annual budget to various projects both in Spain and overseas, that best follow the spirit of humanity, which is the core of Blas Infante’s philosophy. After a presentation at the newly opened Blas Infante Cultural Centre by last year’s winners who gave an overview of how the grants had been used the 2011 awards were announced. This year some 50,000 euros was awarded as follows: The Casares for Andalucia award went to the Asociación Al-Quds de Solidaridad con los Pueblos del Mundo Árabe. A grant of 5,500 euros will be used to raise awareness in Malaga province of the situation in the Middle East and to promote a closer Arab world. The Prolibertas Foundation was presented with the Casares for Spain award of 7,000 euros to help in its campaign to promote social integration of immigrants and their organisations in Madrid. The 13,900 euros Casares for Humanity prize was presented to the Women in Conflict Zones project to alleviate the effects of famine in the north of Mali and recognises the ability of women to be the driving force in society’s development. In addition Casares in Solidarity awards went to 4 projects. The first of these was 3,750 awarded to the Friends of the Saharawi, a Malaga based organisation which aims to improve sanitation and nutrition amongst children in the refugee camps of Western Sahara. The second is a grant of 8,895 euros to Africa Directo for a project to improve education and living conditions for the women of Kalabo in Zambia, and to enable them to become selfsufficient. A third award of 9,466 goes to the Mas Vida de Zaragoza Foundation which works to improve living conditions and housing in some of the poorer areas of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. And finally 1,488 euros was granted to the Asociación Hese Kuera of Seville for the purchase and preparation of seeds for indigenous peoples of the Paraguayan Chaco.

The International Pension Centre (IPC) recently started a “life certificate” campaign and will soon be sending forms to many of you in Spain. As we’ve mentioned before, the life certificate is a form you must complete, within a certain time period, to demonstrate you continue to have the right to a pension. It is important the letter reaches you as soon as possible. We would therefore like to ask you to ensure the IPC hold your up to date contact details. Although you will have provided them with your Spanish address when you first moved over, if you have since moved house, or your address has changed due to increasing urbanisation in your town, inform the Pension Service on 0044 191 218 7777. Remember, you should inform the IPC of any changes in your circumstances, such as changes in address, within 28 days as you could receive correspondence from them at any time throughout the year. If ‘updating your details with IPC’ is a resolution you keep all the way through to 2012, you’ll save yourself trouble

regarding your pension in the year ahead!

And another new year top tip… Although it’s impossible to know what the year ahead may have in store, we can try to make sure we are as prepared as possible for whatever 2011 throws at us. In social security terms, one of the easiest ways to do this is to keep all your paperwork in a safe place. If you are in receipt of a UK State Pension or benefit, the International Pension Centre will soon be sending you an ‘advice notice’ This letter informs you of the new weekly amount you will receive in the coming tax year. And it could come in very handy. For example, if you apply for a meanstested benefit in Spain, or home help through social services, you may well be asked for a certificate from the British Consulate, in Spanish, confirming your pension or benefit amount. We are able to issue this certificate much more quickly if you are able to provide us with your latest statement of benefit as proof of your income.

New opportunity for grants for self employed individuals in Andalucia There is some good news for self employed individuals registered in the Andalucia area. Junta de Andalucia has programmed a new grants´ “convocatoria” for self-employed individuals registered in the last 6 months and for individuals registered between minimum 1 year and maximum 3 years. In order to make a quick summary of this Law, we have to mention “La Ordén de Consejería de Empleo” of the 26thof April 2010. This law has allowed, until now, self employed individuals in the Andalucia area to start up and develop their business, and is an amazing opportunity to be supported in their new ventures. In the previous “convocatoria” in January 2010, in order to apply for a self employed grant, the first step was a business plan and application with the CADE or the Consejería de Empleo, and only after that, you could register with the authorities. Later in the year, this changed and individuals registered self employed in the last six months previous to the “convocatoria”, had the right to apply for a grant to cover their start up expenses. This registration was established to take place in March and September of each year. Now, in 2011, we have a similar situation. There are 2 opportunities for self employed individuals to get grants in Andalucia. 1. Individuals registered self employed for a minimum of 1 year and maximum of 3 years. An amount of 4000 euros will be allocated to finance the expenses and investments made by the self employed individual in the last six months previous to the “convocatoria” of grants. The expenses deductable will be registered in the “Orden TIN/2965/2008”, of

the 14th of October, determined by the European Fund, during 2007-2013. Beneficiaries Individuals registered as self employed for minimum 1 year and maximum 3 years. Any individual, registered self employed, exercising an economic activity, on its own, with residency and fiscal address in Andalucia, and with up to five employees registered, can qualify for the grant.

• •

Presentation period: In the months of March and September of each year.

Preferred economic activities

The economic activities included in the following sectors are considered preferred : • related to daily life, especially related with dependence and services for conciliation for: personal life, family and work. • related to entertainment, recreation and culture. • related to environmental protection, residue treatments and renewable energy. • elated to the improvement of life style, especially the ones for rehabilitation and adjustment of properties and public spaces. • related to New Technologies of Information and Communication. 2. Individuals registered self employed in the last six months, up to the end of February 2011. An amount up to 11,000 Euros will be allocated, depending on the following requirements: • 5.000 Euros for unemployed

individuals in general, 6.000 Euros for: young unemployed people up to 30 years of age, including young people who in the year previous to the grant registration have finished training programmes organised by the Employment Ministry. Activities related to the ATIPE (Full Territorial Actions Preferred for Employment) area. 7.000 Euros for unemployed women increased by 10% for victims of gender violence. 8.000 Euros for: unemployed individuals with a disability of a level equal or superior to 33%. Unemployed individuals with special difficulties of accessing the labor market, including individuals over 45 years of age, immigrants and individuals in unemployment for a period equal or superior to 12 months. 10.000 Euros for unemployed women with a disability equal or superior to 33%, increased by 10% in the case of women victims of violence.

Beneficiaries: Individuals that have started an economic activity in the last six months previous to the opening of the grant “convocatoria”, that can prove their legal situation of unemployment previous to their self employed registration. Any individual, registered self employed, exercising an economic activity, on its own, with residency and fiscal address in Andalucia, and with up to five employees registered, can qualify for the grant.

What to expect when meeting a professional Financial Adviser - By Paul Eaton Since arriving in Spain, I have been struck as to how difficult it can be for an individual to get good, clear and consistent advice. There are a number of unregulated and unqualified advisers operating in Spain, many of whom have limited understanding of the financial world. It is therefore, not surprising that the quality of advice on offer can vary from excellent to downright awful! For the public in general, it is very difficult to know who to trust. However, carefully chosen questions and an understanding of what should take place during your meetings with an adviser can often help you see the wood from the trees. When you first meet an adviser, one of the first questions you should ask is with regards to regulation and qualifications. If an adviser is not properly regulated, or qualified, they will not have any Professional Indemnity Insurance; meaning you have no recourse in the

event of needing to claim against the company providing the advice! Initially, your adviser will need to understand your financial situation. The regulated adviser will always achieve this via the completion of a Fact Find. They should ask you numerous questions about your current circumstances, this will include question about your Assets, and liabilities, and financial objectives as well as your feelings regarding your attitude to risk. If they are not thorough in gathering this information about your financial circumstances, it is highly unlikely that they will be thorough in their endeavours to offer you the most suitable and researched advice. When discussing your needs, it is always important that you assess how independent your adviser is. With many companies offering a restrictive product range, this can have serious implications when investing your hard earned money. Therefore, ask the adviser “Do you

offer a whole of market solution, or, are you restricted to a range of products from your company’s portfolio?” As a general rule of thumb, always be wary if the advice revolves around one product and provider. When investing money, it is essential that you fully understand the products that you are investing in and, how the investment has performed in the past and indeed how it is likely to perform in the future. One thing is certain, you should be highly suspect of any adviser who intimates that high returns are likely in the current climate, or emphasizes guarantees as to future returns. Does your Adviser seek the help of specialists? For example, if an adviser is dealing with a pension/QROPS enquiry, they may turn to a company such as the QROPS Bureau and via the completion of an additional questionnaire, this will enable them to create a detailed

report indicating not only their recommendation but also an in-depth outline covering which jurisdiction was chosen and why, charges both initial and on-going, plus the key benefits of the scheme. These points are essential, in ensuring that you receive the right advice. Should you find that you wish to clarify a point don’t suffer in silence, it’s your money, your future financial wellbeing that is at stake. So, do ask questions. Seek qualified advice from a regulated adviser who will always provide you with documentary evidence to support the advice they offer. If you have any questions on any of the above, please contact me and I will endeavour to be of help. Paul Eaton Mobile: 689969151 Tel: 951200890 Independent Financial Adviser

El Camino 2011 - Walking in support of harmony between human beings, animals and the natural planet

The Spanish national animal protection association PLANETA ANIMAL invites everybody to take part in “El Camino 2011” a magic pilgrimage from Seville to Santiago de Compostela, to raise public awareness and to introduce their new educational programme to schools along the route. “We live in a world full of needs and do not see that everything is related. If we do not teach our children to respect the animals and nature, they will not respect their fellow citizens either. And we all know that respect is the basis of a functioning society “, says Johanna Mayrhofer, the director of the El Camino 2011 Project. Those who take part in the walk will have a great opportunity to combine a week’s holiday with a chance to experience the legendary pilgrims trail all in a good cause. The ‘Silver route’ will take them through some of the wonderful, unknown landscapes of Spain, up to Astorga, then continuing on the French route to

Santiago de Compostela. El Camino 2011 starts on the 19th of March in Seville finishing 6 weeks and 1,000 kilometres later in Santiago de Compostela. The animal companions on the Camino will be dogs, donkeys, a horse and a pony. Planeta Animal will provide the entire infrastructure needed by both human and animal travellers, with guides, accommodation, food and water, transport of baggage, etc. Volunteers, who want to take part, can do so in periods of one to six weeks, choosing the most attractive week of the route and making sure of a realistic distance for their own animals. A new Animal Protection Educational Programme for Schools will be introduced to schools in villages along the route during the Camino and free copies of the programme with well prepared classes will be handed out to them and to other animal protection associations, so they can continue the programme. Many other associations along the route have arranged to meet them in their areas and to accompany them

Exercise and diets don’t work and here’s why Spring is upon us and Summer, just 3 months away. So how is your body shaping up? Women are you ready for bikinis and backless dresses or are the bulges growing? Men, do you have chunky arms and chest with a stomach, that’s blocking your view of the rest? Diets don’t actually work, do they? That’s a fact, now proven scientifically many times. No matter how enthusiastic you or your dietician may be, all diets only provide a temporary reduction before it all comes back. Why don’t diets work? Because, it is not fat. Your body’s muscles are damaged and this so called, “fat” is your body’s way of protecting itself with a safe layer of cushioning. The more damaged our body incurs with just normal living, then the more padding, i.e. fat, our body needs to cushion and protect itself. That’s why we all get fatter as we get older, men as well as women. Diets initially appear to work. As our body is starved of external nourishment, it calls upon its “fat” as an internal, reserve source of food, therefore our bulk reduces. But when the diet ends, the bulges re-grow, don’t they? They re-grow because they have been deliberately placed where they are, as a protective padding to guard our damaged muscles and they regrow larger, because the diet has traumatized our body into thinking that there has been a famine and so, our pro-active body lays down some extra reserve food supplies, just in case. This cycle is so common that it has even been given a name, “the yo-yo effect” and it occurs much to the confusion of dieticians, doctors and scientists, because they don’t know why. Exercise doesn’t work either, does it? The results are inconsistent and temporary. This a fact that thousands

will all attest to. Even after months and months of slogging exercise, there are certain areas of the body where fat and loose skin will not move away. Exercise initially appears to work. The enforced pumping of the heart combined with the excessive movement of the muscles, increases our blood flow enough to push away some of the padding. But exercise, involving the pulling and pushing on already seized and misaligned muscles, only creates more internal damage. Consequently, when the exercise regime ends, over the following years, the fat or padding will re-grow and in the same places, only next time, there will be more of it because the newly created damage requires more padding. Look at the diagrams below and compare them with your body shape. Are you padded?

Don’t despair, you can redress the ravages of time and restore your body to genuine health with the unique Muscle Renewal System, a one to one, hands-on therapy. No diets, exercise, drugs nor machinery. Each treatment gives a noticeable results in 2 days. You will lose weight. Your posture will change. You will feel and look years younger. Criminals hiding on the Costas beware as Operation Captura returns Jamie DEMPSEY Born: 13/05/1978 in Essex Offences: DEMPSEY is wanted by SOCA under an EAW for conspiring to supply cocaine and facilitation of the use of criminal property. Description: Blue eyes; Height – 180cm; Slim build, Collar length, fair hair

UK crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers and the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) are once again closing in on Britain’s most wanted who are believed to be on the run in Spain. Ten new appeals, which include some

of the UK’s most dangerous individuals, have been revealed today in Alicante, an area with a large British ex-patriate community and a potential hideout for fugitives on the run from British law enforcement.

The ten new Operation Captura appeals Operation Captura is the successful multi-agency campaign which identifies individuals on the run in Spain who are wanted by UK law enforcement agencies for serious crimes committed in the UK. Since the campaign launched in October

2006, there have been 50 appeals; 38 of whom have been arrested. Many of these are now serving lengthy prison sentences for their crimes which range from drug trafficking to sex crimes to murder.

“The public is a weapon in the fight against crime” Dave Cording, Director of Operations at Crimestoppers, said: “The public is one of the greatest weapons in the fight against crime, and once again we are asking the public to help track down most wanted individuals who are sought in connection with some violent, sexual and highly organised crimes. We’ve continually had an overwhelming response to this campaign, resulting in

over 500 pieces of useful information on the fugitives sought. You can view all the appeals on the most wanted section of Crimestoppers’ website and if you know anything about the individuals please contact Crimestoppers. No one will ever know who you are and you will not go to court. Contact us on 0800 555 111 or through our website crimestoppers-uk.org”

Operation Captura - making it harder for criminals to hide Ken Gallagher, Head of European Operations for SOCA, said: “Operation Captura is helping make the ex-pat community in Spain an uncomfortable place for fugitives. Having the public’s attention focussed on these individuals goes a long way to making it harder for them to hide and should act as a warning that Spain is no safe haven for British criminals.” Crimestoppers and SOCA work closely with the British Embassy in Madrid and British and Spanish law enforcement agencies. The campaign highlights appeals for information on individuals facing prosecution in the UK who

have European Arrest Warrants issued against them. Information given to Crimestoppers anonymously can help locate these criminals so that arrests can be carried out by Spanish law enforcement. You can help Calls to the Spanish 900 555 111 telephone number are answered in the UK by Crimestoppers’ call agents and a translation service is available upon request. People can also pass on information anonymously via the online Giving Information form on this website. Those in the UK should call 0800 555 111.

Oosthuizen to defend Andalucia Open title next month

Photo: Michael Denker

Reigning Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen of South Africa will defend his title at the tenth edition of the Open de Andalucía de Golf at Parador Málaga Golf in Malaga, Spain, from March 2427. Last year Oosthuizen saw off England’s Richard Finch and Scotland’s Peter Whiteford by three shots to claim his first European Tour title, and four months later he was celebrating capturing his maiden Major Championship after his victory at St Andrews. Oosthuizen is looking forward to returning to Malaga for the €1 million event, which is hosted by Miguel Angel Jiménez. He said: “I’m really excited about returning to Parador Málaga Golf in March to defend my Open de Andalucía title. Miguel Ángel Jimenez, a great guy we all like and respect, has provided us with such a wonderful event, and I’ve no doubt it will again attract a very strong field.

“I have very good memories of Málaga because you never forget your first big win. I’d been runner up four times before, and had to wait seven long years for my first European Tour win. I think the Open de Andalucía gave me the confidence I needed, and from there I went on to win The Open Championship. Being at St Andrews, the Home of Golf, made it even more special and completed my greatest year to date.” The Open de Andalucía will be organized and promoted by Fade & Draw Target, the company owned by Jiménez, with the support of the Junta de Andalucía as the main sponsor. This will be the event’s tenth edition in total and the fifth time it has formed part of The European Tour International Schedule. Previous winners include England’s Lee Westwood (in 2007), France’s Thomas Levet (2008) and Denmark’s Søren Kjeldsen (2009).
