EDITORIAL Ahora que estamos bien y metidos he realizado mi sueño!

Hablamos We Speak

Now that we’re well and truly into the summer season we’ve been concentrating on bringing you as much information on the huge number of events and activities going on over the coming weeks and months. With constant changes and new events, concerts, etc., being announced almost daily we’d recommend that you visit our website and Facebook page at www.theresident.eu and www.facebook.com/TheResident. Spain where you can keep up to date on what’s going on. You will also find hundreds of photos chronicling the news and events as they happen. Included in these images are pictures of the celebrations following Spain’s historic win over Italy in the European Cup Final. I remember once thinking wouldn’t it be nice to be in a country

when it won a major event such as this, well I’ve certainly fulfilled that dream over the past four years! At least it helped lift the mood of the country in these difficult economic times. We’ve also managed to capture some incredible images from a couple of big bush fires, the most recent in Torreguadiaro at the end of last month. Whilst making great viewing, they also serve as a reminder that during this hot dry spell we need to take extra care. Well I’ll keep it short this month as I’m sure you’ve got better things to do than listen to me go on, so enjoy the rest of the summer. Until next time then, Regards, The Editor.

The owner of 24 pieces by Ortega Bru gives his collection to the new room dedicated to the artist A total of 24 pieces by Luis Ortega Bru were provided by their owner, Enrique Hernandez Luike, to San Roque to be exhibited in the new room dedicated to the great San Roque artist in the Palacio de Gobernadores, which will be inaugurated

San Roque actor Galiardo dies aged 72 One of San Roque’s most famous sons, actor Juan Luis Galiardo, known for such film roles as Don Quixote and in Charlton Heston’s “Anthony and Cleopatra”, died last week aged 72. “A quick and devastating illness has taken away one of the most popular and significant faces in our country’s cinema, theatre and television,” read a statement posted on his official website after his death late Friday June 22. Born in 1940, Galiardo began his fivedecade film acting career in the early 1960s and came to international attention in pictures such as “Anthony and Cleopatra” directed by and starring Heston in 1971. He later worked for several years in Mexico before returning to Spain and played his defining role as the comic knight Quixote in a film of the Spanish classic directed by Manuel Gutierrez Aragon in 2002. His prolific stage career included leading

roles such as King Lear, Oedipus and Moliere’s “The Miser”. Galiardo will live on in local memory as San Roque’s theatre, Teatro Juan Luis Galiardo proudly bears his name.

Crestellina Cheese Factory A native goat’s cheese crafted by expert hands, facilities where you can follow the whole process of cheese production and a herd of goats taken care of by the most experienced shepherds, may be three good reasons for a visit. And that’s what they thought at the Crestellina Cheese Factory in Casares, encouraging tourism linking crafts, nature and gastronomy. The factory is promoting tourism and local economy by organizing visits to the factory and the town. The Project is partially aimed at companies and individuals who wish to associate with

natural products. Proof of this is the tasting that took place recently with cheese and wine for the Association of Ferraris of Andalusia, who also visited restaurants in the municipality. The other initiative of the tourism project is for school pupils to visit the facilities of the cheese factory, in which the children return to a style of manufacturing that is being lost and are also make ambassadors of quality products such as the Crestellina Cheese, one of the major tourist attractions in Casares.

Friends and Neighbours of Marina de Casares June has been a very busy social month; some club members took a trip to the Pirineo, Lourdes and Andorra, the first time that most of them have seen this beautiful part of northern Spain and France. Shortly afterwards, the club took three full tables at Armstrongs restaurant where they enjoyed a buffet lunch and afternoon cream tea whilst celebrating ‘Ladies Day’ at Ascot. The ladies were in full splendour with their hats and dresses that would grace any Royal enclosure. The club’s San Juan dinner party with almost 70 members seated around tables in the gardens of Marina de Casares enjoyed a gourmet and international feast. This evening was special as they were joined by Mayor Señora Antonia Morera and the new councillor for Casares Costa, Antonia Pineda. The Ayuntamiento again provided a spectacular evening of entertainment and

excitement for all the hundreds of people who went along to enjoy. There was also a ‘Belly Dancer’ as a birthday surprise for one of the male members present. Finally, the Club enjoyed the “Summer Tournament” golf day at Dona Julia Golf Club on Thursday 28 June, followed by a club lunch at La Casona Restaurant. The event was very well attended with around 30 members and guests attending. Dona Julia Golf Club generously donated the overall winner’s prize of two green fees for 18 holes including buggy won by a delighted Barrie Hill! With the sun blazing and the golf hot as well, all enjoyed a fabulous day out and thanks go out to Barrie Hill for organizing such a wonderful event. Here’s to the next one!

Tax Amnesty approved in June 2012

On the 4th June the Spanish National Gazette (Boletin Oficial del Estado) published the information regarding the Tax Amnesty. There have been many rumours about it in last few months. The Tax Amnesty is an idea from the Spanish Government to be used as a way of convincing people and companies, who have undeclared possessions and cash at home, to legalize the situation of these assets, thus creating an additional income for the Inland Revenue. The amount of tax to be paid would be 10 % of the value of the assets, or cash to be declared. Therefore, someone, (an individual or a company), who has 100,000 euro in cash, can legalize these funds by depositing them at any bank and paying 10 % of this amount, i.e. 10,000 Euros to the Tax office. The deadline to declare any assets or cash is 30th November 2012, and it is compulsory to do it on-line with the tax form 750. In principle, it seems quite a simple and straightforward procedure, but after reading the official publication of this Tax Amnesty, all of the tax implications are not fully explained. It clearly states that this Amnesty refers to income and company taxes, but not to other taxes. Therefore,

it implies, that the taxman could claim other different taxes, such us VAT for the transactions not declared in the past. CONCLUSION: We recommend that any individual or company that may be in a position to take advantage of this Tax Amnesty should be careful and delay doing anything for the moment until all of the tax implications are 100% clear. As the tax implications are not entirely clear, the Inland Revenue will be forced to clarify them within the next month or so. Then, when there’s no possibility of misunderstanding the interpretation of the Amnesty, would be the time to decide to take advantage of the situation and declare any hidden assets or funds that people or companies may have, to the Inland Revenue. For further advice on this matter or to arrange a no obligation meeting to discuss your particular circumstances in detail, please contact Denise Molony on mob. 669 428 998, or contact us by e-mail on mail@manilvasolicitors.com or by tel. 952 901 225. The English Bookshop … One year on

“My parrot and I” have been trading for one year now and could not be more pleased with the support customers have given, along with the wonderful compliments in respect to the changes in the shop. In the last 12 months we have been busy reorganising the shelves and putting books in order so that customers can browse through the sections at their leisure. We have also kept up to date with the latest novels and best sellers as well as extending the educational books and dictionaries. We have given support too for “Local Authors” who have penned, Detective stories, Thrillers, Romance and personal conquests. As well as all that we have created a larger area for the children’s books, which range in age from 0 to 16 yrs and brought in new Scholastic books to be able to help and encourage school kids with grammar and vocabulary. In the last year we have introduced a new line in greeting cards, gift wrap, bags and tags, which many customers have complimented us on. However we felt that something more was needed and brought in Helium Balloons which have been very successful for Birthdays, Anniversaries and Weddings etc. Christmas and New Year encouraged us to bring in more party themes and Valentine’s Day saw us selling handmade Chocolates which accompanied the love heart balloons!! We have now introduced a range of plain colours which we can personalise to make any occasion extra special. On the business side of things we have gained customer confidence by working with Offex, who provide a professional postal and courier service enabling us to send 1st and 2nd class post to the UK and rest of the world. Letters and parcels can be

recorded allowing us to be able to “Track & Trace” to make sure items arrive safely and securely and important documents can be sent by special delivery with compensation up to 1000€. When renewing an out of date or lost/stolen passport we provide all the necessary information and if needed, documents too, so to make the hassle of form filling a little lighter. We have recently introduced the sales of Hits Mobile sim cards as well as mobile phone top ups which have been a great success, also we have started to sell Mobile Telephone Packs, which give you the phone, sim card and 5,00€ credit all in one go. So, what is next for year 2? Well, we are in the process of having a new storeroom built, which will enable us to extend into the one we only had built last year. Our intention is to bring new ideas and new lines into the shop making it not just the only great bookshop in the area but also a great card and party shop by doubling the amount of greeting cards and introducing party theme ideas. As the mobile phone sales have increased we would like to extend the range of telephones and also introduce a fax and photocopying service. Stationary will be on sale too, so I don’t keep having to send people elsewhere whenever they need a Jiffy Bag!! Gifts and locally handmade crafts will be available making the shop a place where you can buy a card, find a gift, have it wrapped and have it sent by post to its destination that same day. Oh and while you are waiting to have your gift wrapped you get to hear all the local gossip!! So, a big thank you once again from Eva and myself for making year 1 so exciting and successful, we can’t wait to report back after year 2. Steve.

infrastructure development plan and has a budget of some 900,000 euros of which 300,000 will come from town hall coffers

Turn your Back on Pain The enormous growth of this modality is due to clinical successes and scientific research developed by dedicated professionals. Today, it has been ranked as the third most important profession in the healing art in the world after conventional medicine and dentistry. Recent studies show that it is a highly effective specialty to fight various pains, achieving spectacular results in the relief of back, neck and head pain.

Techniques Employed A natural method without medication or surgery, chiropractic pain relief seeking the origins of the disease. The spine has the answer. This is one of the most recognized alternative medicines. It is responsible for studying structural biomechanical problems, especially those of the vertebral column, and how they affect health. The word chiropractic means done with the hands, which is quite indicative in understanding this therapy, since the hands are the key instrument used by doctors specializing in this field. Chiropractic is logical and simple. It does not cure the symptoms but goes straight to the source of the disease. The spine has a fundamental importance. This medical specialty is still relatively unknown in our country and requires at least six years study. It is based on the premise that good health depends on a properly functioning nervous system. For this to be so, it is essential that the spine is in good condition, since the structural alterations of the position of the vertebrae can irritate or compress the nerves from the spinal cord (protected by the spine) and distributed throughout the body. What we do is release the imbalances that may be present, called subluxations, which are often the main cause of the different types of pain afflicting the individual.

After a thorough physical examination, the chiropractor makes a diagnosis, determines your needs and designs a tailor made program. The main treatment is a specific manual adjustment of the spine. The specialist’s expert fingers run along the spine and seek out the cause of the problem. Once found they commence the adjustments, which are made by hand pressure on certain points of the spine to return the vertebrae to their normal position, restore mobility and prevent irritation of the nervous system. The treatment can be completed at home with a series of exercises that help the patient to move more freely and improve the tone and strength of muscles, as well as the functionality of the spine and ligaments.

Who should see a Chiropractor?

The use of this specialty may be appropriate to a large number of illnesses. 80% of patients go to consult a chiropractor about back problems. But it is also an excellent treatment for headaches, dizziness, vertigo, sciatica, arthritis, sports injuries, slipped discs, lumbago, numbness, neck pain, etc, etc. Keep in mind that there are many diseases that are caused by spinal injuries that affect the digestive, circulatory, gynaecological or nervous systems.

APRONA centre for the disabled to close The Association for the Mentally Handicapped in Estepona (Aprona) estimates that they will be forced to close after next month. The director, Juana Maria Jimenez, explained that they will no longer be able to sustain the centre because of the more than 330,000 euros owed to them by the Junta de Andalucia. The centre provides support to over 370 individuals, and has different units that survive on grants and agreements they have with various delegations of the regional government. The building has a department for early childhood intervention, two daytime care

units and an Occupational Therapy centre, as well as providing residential care. The money they receive is spent on paying the salaries of professionals at the centre and the materials needed for its operation. The situation is untenable, because they cannot cope with the costs of the centre without the money they are owed. The centre has launched a campaign to collect signatures to try to obtain the amounts due. The idea is to get as much support as possible to pressure the Government of Andalucia until they hand over the money.

The award was decided upon last weekend by the evaluation committee ACES EUROPE (Association of European Capitals of Sport), who visited Estepona to assess the work done by the municipality in regard to promoting sporting values. The mayor stated that in the letter sent to the Town Hall, the committee considered that Estepona is “a great example of political and municipal management in sport.” The flag proving this recognition will be collected on 7 November at the European Parliament. Last year ten cities were chosen including Florence, Bilbao, and Preston, whilst this year Estepona joins Modena and Cremona in Italy, and Lorca in Spain, who are among the cities already selected.

Starlite Festival Marbella’s Starlite Festival promises to be Spain’s premier social and cultural event this year. Combining a whole month of music, fashion, gastronomy, culture and leisure the organisers have set out to create a fabulous and unique experience one of the highlights of which will be this year’s Starlite Charity Gala. Centred on the Marbella Auditorium which was created on the site of the quarry from which the rock was extracted to build Puerto Banús, this spectacular venue located above Marbella in the heart of the Sierra Blanca, provides the ideal setting for the festival. First used as a concert venue back in 1983 when Placido Domingo performed to a packed audience, the site has been neglected for many years, but has now been given a new lease of life with the clearance of hundreds of truckloads of rubbish and a new hard surface laid. The organisers Avory International are creating on this site the Starlite Village which will provide not only the concert stage and auditorium, but a restaurant and lounge, VIP area, and a performance area which will feature over 150 differents complementary acts, including, burlesque, circus, top DJs, who will keep guests entertained even on those nights when there are no headline concerts. Talking of major artists, the organisers have put together an eclectic programme which should cater to just about everyone’s tastes. With 14 concerts over the 30 day

festival music lovers will be treated to live performances from: George Benson, Roger Hodgson - Legendary Voice of Supertramp, Armando Manzanero, Tony Bennett, Christopher Cross, Hugh Laurie, Paul Anka, Miguel Bosé, Rosario, Lolita & Antonio Carmona, Simple Minds, Raphael, Julio Iglesias, and Estopa. To purchase tickets for any of these concerts then visit the festival website: www.starlitefestival.com or www.ticketmaster.es El Bulli Catering Visitors to the Starlite Village are in for a gastronomic treat as they will be able to sample the tapas on offer by Paco Roncero’s El Bulli Catering. Paco Roncero is the protege of Ferran Adrià whose

legendary restaurant El Bulli regularly topped the World’s Top 50 Restaurants List, and was fully booked a year in advance. Although recently closed, the spirit of El Bulli lives on at the Starlite Festival. Starlite and the local community The Organisers of the Starlite Festival have gone to great lengths to ensure that the event provides and economic boost to the local community. With some 100,000 visitors expected of which some 20,000 will be from outside Spain the festival will put Marbella well and truly on the map as a major event venue. There will also be a direct impact with over 300 jobs being created as well as 60% of the services and materials required for Starlite being sourced locally.

June paella party raises more than €500

All eyes were on the Renault Kangoo as a steaming hot paella, one metre in diameter, was slid out and carried into Plaza Manilva outside Longman’s Bookshop in Estepona and placed on long table. At once, some sixty people jumped to their feet and rushed forward to be served. It was the annual paella party in aid of ADANA , made by volunteers of the local Alzheimer’s Association and paid for by MaPepa, well known helper in the ADANA shop. What a delicious paella it was, too! Africa, assisted by Maruja and Victoria, had been up since 7.00 in the morning to prepare the freshest of ingredients and, most important, make a rich stock from some of the prawns so that every grain of rice absorbed the flavour. While the paella began to cook on the vast ring, they prepared a wonderful

green salad with a generous addition of tuna and olives. Sangria, made by Maria and Paca, was already being poured liberally into glasses and an atmosphere of contentment filled the little cobbled square. Conchi, President of the Alzheimer’s Association, served the paella along with ADANA President, Maria, and MaPepa while ADANA volunteer, Sean, ran the bar. Over 500€ were raised for ADANA, thanks once again to the great generosity of the Alzheimer’s Association and MaPepa

Volunteers

With an increasing work load Age Concern needs new volunteers to come forward and work with older people in the community – particularly in the Estepona/ Manilva/Duquesa areas. No experience is needed as training will be given. Helping older people live as full a life as possible is very rewarding so; if you have a few hours to spare each week, why not volunteer. If interested please call Eileen Dry on 608458555 and find out more.

ADANA into Schools

For a long time now, ADANA has been hoping to extend its activities into the field of education. Sadly, awareness of animal welfare issues is not as acute in Spain as in the UK and if we are to change hearts and minds, the way to do so is through education, and the earlier the better. ADANA has now teamed up with Nando ‘In the Doghouse’ Brown, who hosts a popular Saturday radio show, beamed from the Kempinski Hotel, Estepona, to take the issue of care and respect for animals into schools in the Estepona area and beyond. Nando will be telling his young audience about ADANA and the valuable work we do. Nando, who is half-Spanish, can be heard every Saturday morning on iTalkRadio, 97.1 FM

Send us details of your club, charity or association’s events and activities and even if we don’t have room in The Resident we will publish it on our website at www.theresident.eu Send copy and images to editor@theresident.eu by the 18th of the month for inclusion in the paper or anytime for publication on the website.

Vet’s Corner - The Summer Wars It is summertime again, time for those enjoyable outings to hike in the hills or bathe at the beach; beware though, all that glitters may not be gold! While enjoying this warmest time of the year be wary as the time is also wonderful for fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, and biting flies, to name a few ectoparasites, whose life cycles are also in full bloom these days and will continue to do so throughout the autumn. These pests not only bother our pets but may also pester us at times as well. If you have not yet instituted flea and tick control it is time to revise and re-evaluate the products that have worked for you in the past, hoping that the fleas did not develop resistance this year to last years products, which with regard to some of the commercial preprations is all to frequent a phenomenon. If this has occured then the best solution is to find acouple of different products and alternate their use to stay ahead of the defense mechanisims of these interlopers. Remember that it is important to control the environment first and your animals second, otherwise you may find the war lost prior to the first shot being fired. When we bathe in the ocean or in a pool we rinse the salt or the chlorine off afterwards with fresh water, this is the least we can do for our animals as well. This will help to reduce the all to frequent summer exzemas. Over shampooing, even with the mildest medicated prepared shampoos, rather than

resolving skin problems may aggravate them by reducing the natural defences in the skin and it’s secretions. When in doubt consult a professional. The drought we are experiencing has it’s effects on our animals as well. The increase in ectoparasites, as discussed above, may be coupled with an increase in diseases or conditions they may cause secondary to their presence. If the water isn’t fit for us to drink we ought to be giving our animals the same bottled water we drink. Make sure in the heat they have abundant water available as well as a shady spot to take refuge. They should be in a well ventilated area. Remember, if travelling with your dog and having to leave him in the car for a short while, think twice. Even leaving the windows partially open may not provide sufficient cooling properties as shown in the sad case of the two police dogs in England that died recently although only being left unattended for just a few minutes. Should you be concerned that your dog is overheating or showing signs off distress immediate action can be taken to help him. Firstly, cool his feet by hosing him down or placing his feet in a bowl of cold water and secondly, seek professional advise because heat stroke can be fatal. Dogs “sweat” or thermoregulate (as we say in the trade) through their feet and by panting and therefore cooling the feet is the fastest way of alleviating their heat distress.

“¡Qué suerte he tenido de conocerle!”, pienso. Y luego le digo: “¡Manolo..., me vas a traer suerte!” ¿A qué hora sales?.

Exercise in the heat Hot weather exercising can do more than make you hot, tired and thirsty. Many of us remember the gruesome sight of Andersen-Schiess stumbling to the marathon finish line in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, suffering from hyperthermia. Serious heat illness is even more likely to strike those who push their endurance and are not as well conditioned as Olympic marathoners, over weight, pregnant and under conditioned bodies are most at risk. but exercising in warm weather is safe if you know how to manage your exercise program and adjust your workout to the conditions. While exercising you are exposed to both external and internal heat. External heat comes from the combination of environmental temperature and humidity - the heat index. Humidity increases the effect of heat by limiting the effectiveness of sweat evaporation to cool you. Heat radiation from certain surfaces such as pavement, concrete or sand may make you feel hotter.

The Resident - www.theresident.eu

Heat exhaustion Heat stroke If you must train in a hot environment, hyper-hydrate before and during the event, and pace yourself. Women respond to heat differently from men and may even handle it better. The average woman has a proportionally larger surface area than the average man and so absorbs more heat than a man would in temperatures above 98 F and dissipates more heat in temperatures below 98 F. Women have less muscle mass than men and therefore generate less internal heat while exercising. They also sweat more efficiently than men. Wear loose light coloured clothing, made of natural fibres that allow the body to sweat, don’t wipe the sweat off your body, it is cooling down the exterior surface. Avoid the midday heat, drink as much as you can before your workout so that the body is super hydrated before you start, avoid caffeine and alcohol as these will encourage dehydration, take sips of fluids every 15 mins to keep the internal temperature under control. Avoid running on black surfaces such as tarmac, grass or even concrete is better AND remember, if you start to feel unwell, a headache or disorientated then stop your work out immediately, take a cool bath and lie under the fan until your body cools down then drink room temperature water but NOT ICE COLD Remember consult with your GP before starting any new exercise or if you have any questions email me jojofrance_69@hotmail.com or call 687 030 047. Good Luck and stay cool.

Hydration for the summer

The weather is warming up and we need to make sure we stay properly hydrated. The National Institute of Medicine recommends about 3 litres of fluid for men and 2 litres for women. This includes all beverages like coffee, juice, water, tea, milk etc. Additional fluid can often be found in the moisture of foods – cucumbers and watermelon are especially hydrating. Watch out for signs of dehydration which include: dry mouth, headache, constipation, vomiting, irritability, tiredness, decreased urination, dizziness, fever and delirium. Many clients tell me they get bored of drinking water all the time so here are a couple of deliciously refreshing drinks to try:

Summer Refresher ½ teaspoon of grated ginger ¼ of a medium cucumber sliced ½ medium lemon sliced 6 mint leaves Add the ingredients into a jug with 1 litre of water and leave in the fridge for a few hours. During intense exercise, muscle activity increases internal heat production 15 to 20 times more than at resting levels. Exercise intensity and duration, body size and shape, fitness level, acclimatization, state of hydration and type and color of clothing also affect internal heat production. The body’s “thermostat,” located in the hypothalamus of the brain, senses any rise in body temperature and sends signals to dilate sufface blood vessels, increase respiratory rate and begin sweating. About 85 percent of heat loss is caused by the evaporation of sweat. Adequate hydration is the key to your body’s ability to cool itself by sweating. Heat illness occurs when the body produces more heat than it can dissipate. Most often this happens when dehydration accompanies excessive heat production. Most people whose core body temperature reaches 40 degree’s will ‘switch off’, this means there ability to continue normal exercise will be unlikely ( maybe if you were competing in the Olympics with a big prize in front of you then you could really push your body to the limit), but science tells us at 41 degree’s the body will switch off and give up. No options given, it cannot continue. Severity progresses as described below; from the mild stages of heat cramps and heat fatigue through more serious heat exhaustion to heat stroke, which can be fatal Heat cramps Heat fatigue

Essential Pointers for a Successful Business - by LIMIT CONSULTING From our experience in dealing with a variety of projects, we have compiled some vital steps you may want to take to ensure the success of your business activity. These are basic principles. We hope you can give them some thought and find a practical application in your case. CHOOSE YOUR IDEAL CLIENT You will probably realize that you cannot provide your service to everyone. Choose your ideal client and sell your service to them. Your ads, your offers, etc will depend on this choice. Of course, you will welcome anyone initially, but your clientele target should be clear. BE AN EXPERT It is essential that you know your product well: What makes it different or unique. Your potential clients have to perceive you as an expert. BECOME VISIBLE You can be the best professional in the world, but if your ideal clientele do not know how to find you, what is the worth? In some cases being visible is all about the location of your premises. For others, being visible is about good, regular advertisement. The truth is that people forget us easily. In the existing economical climate, when everybody is looking for new clients, we need to be on the top of the wave, or it will pass away. This does not mean that you have to spend a lot of money on advertisement. Ask yourself the following: Where are your ideal clients? Do they read a specific magazine? Do they visit a particular area? At LimitConsulting we specialize in Ex-pats. All our adverts and website are in English. More and more people trust in us for a quality service. REACH MORE PEOPLE Become pro-active. We hope this is not the first time that you hear this: Every entrepreneur has to be a sales person. Give your business card out at every opportunity. FIND GOOD CO-OPERATORS Associating with others is a great way to offer full assistance to your clients. If you run a small business you probably cannot afford a big business structure. Who do you know that shares similar customers to you but aren’t in direct competition? ADD VALUE TO YOUR PRODUCT OR SERVICE Think out how you can offer more than they pay for. Offer

post-sale service, organize how-to courses, We know of plumbers that not only fix the pipe but get you the water contract. Try to offer the complete service; yourself or by means of your network.

CREATE A FACEBOOK PAGE No matter what sort of business you run, your customers and potential clientele should be able to find you on the worldwide web. A fan on facebook is 3 times as much likely to become your customer than someone who is not. Why? Because your fans already know you and have a measure of trust in you. FIND MORE THAN A GOOD ACCOUNTANT FIND A BUSINESS CONSULTANT A good business consultant will not only see to it that all your obligations are met but will know the way through the Spanish red tape. He can save you a lot of money doing the things right at the first attempt. It is true. You business consultant will not run your business for you but you can address him with your ideas and he will be more than happy to share with you his experience. CONTROL YOUR CASH This point is self-evident but we still think it needs clarification. When one is starting a business many will come to you trying to sell you things that you don’t need. Do you really need to spend much on expensive furniture? Do you really need so many computers? A common rationalization is to think that we will need all these things to grow. Bear in mind that, when you are starting up a business and even more so when wondering if closing it down, there is only one department that counts: Sales Department. Put your efforts there without delay. START SMALL .THINK BIG Yes, you have a small business, but nobody says that you cannot copy the successful behaviors of big companies. When you see other companies doing well, ask yourself. What can I copy from them? The neat dressing, smiling staff? Their use of promotions? If it is working for them it can work for you.
