Bienvenidos a la edición de mayo de The Resident. Bueno, el verano finalmente ha llegado y los pantalones cortos están a la orden del día. En todas partes se está preparando para la avalancha de visitantes que, si nos basamos en la pasada Semana Santa, esperamos que rompa récords. Hay un marcado optimismo a lo largo de la costa y esperamos haber visto la parte posterior de los días oscuros de ‘Crisis’. Como habrán notado, las campañas electorales locales se han disparado. La ley electoral española impide cualquier campaña abierta hasta poco más de dos semanas antes de la fecha de la elección, así que a la medianoche del jueves pasado, bandas de políticos y fieles de sus partidos fueron liberados con su pegamento, pinceles y brazos llenos de carteles para “decorar” las ciudades con sus mensajes. . Con solo dos semanas, hay muchas manos que apretar, bebés que besar y perros para acariciar, solo esperamos que los reciban en el orden correcto. En una nota seria, sin embargo, no voy a intentar influir en tu voto, pero sí diré que si tienes el derecho a votar, debes ejercer ese derecho, después de todo, la única forma en que puedes exigir el derecho a ser escuchado. es si participas en el proceso - Si no votas, ¿no te importa? Well summer has finally arrived and shorts are the order of the day (that’s the item of clothing, not the drink!) and everywhere is getting prepared for the onslaught of visitors which, if Easter is anything to go by, will hopefully set new records for numbers. There is a marked optimism along the Coast and hopefully we have seen the back of the dark days of ‘Crisis’, As you will have noticed the local election campaigns have gone into overdrive. Spanish electoral law prevents any overt campaigning until just over two weeks before election date so at midnight last Thursday bands of politicians and their party faithfull were let loose with their paste pots, brushes and arms full of posters to ‘decorate’ the towns with their messages. With just two weeks to go there are a lot of hands to be shaken, babies to be kissed, and dogs to be patted, let’s just hope they get that in the right order. On a serious note though, I’m not going to try and influence your vote, but I will say that if you have the right to vote, you should exercise that right, after all the only way you can demand the right to be heard is if you take part in the process - Dont’t Vote, Don’t Care? Then Don’t Complain. Well that’s it for this month, don’t forget to get down to your local polling station on Sunday 26th May and make your voice heard, if you don’t feel strongly about any particular party then just vote for the incumbent at least you will have taken part. Platinum Estates compra el Hotel de Doña Julia para concluir su construcción y realizar su apertura
Platinum Estates, la sociedad con sede en Hong Kong propiedad de Harry y Roshni Mohinani y que invierte en España junto a su socio Juan Luis Segalerva ha cerrado la compra en Casares, a pie de golf de la Finca Doña Julia, un terreno con una estructura construida de 50.000 m2 donde se proyectó construir un hotel de lujo bajo la marca Park Hyatt y un terreno en la misma zona para la construcción de un centro comercial y de ocio. El lote de ambos activos se lo adjudicaron 7 bancos en la liquidación del concurso de acreedores del Grupo Evemarina y tras una larga negociación con estos 7 bancos finalmente Platinum Estates llegó a un acuerdo de compra que se acaba de materializar. El objetivo del grupo Platinum es definir el proyecto y comenzar cuanto antes su desarrollo. «El inmueble permite la construcción de un establecimiento con 200 suites y un spa de 4.500 metros cuadrados,
así como un country house junto al campo de golf», ha manifestado Segalerva a los medios de comunicación. Junto al terreno hotelero, Platinum ha comprado otra parcela, en este caso de uso comercial, con 11.000 metros cuadrados, y se plantea su desarrollo por cuenta propia o a través de otra empresa. Por su parte, la presidenta de Platinum Estates, Roshni Mohinani, ha declarado que están encantados de estar presentes en «el exclusivo municipio de Casares». Y ha agradecido al alcalde, José Carrasco, «su atención y su interés en captar esta inversión para su ciudad», así como al concejal de Urbanismo, Juan Luis Villalón, y los técnicos municipales que «también han sido proactivos en facilitar que esta inversión sea posible. Con su ayuda pronto habrá en Casares otro hotel de Gran Lujo con una primera marca internacional y un centro comercial y de ocio que traerán mas actividad empresarial a este municipio».

Abiertos los plazos para la inscripción de las secciones a concurso del VI Festival Nuevo Cine Andaluz que se celebra en Casares del 27 de septiembre al 5 de octubre
Se han abierto los plazos de inscripción en las distintas categorías a concurso para la sexta edición del Festival Nuevo Cine Andaluz, que se celebrará en Casares (Málaga), del 27 de septiembre al 5 de octubre próximos. En la sección oficial de largometrajes de ficción y documentales podrán participar aquellas películas que hayan sido realizadas o estrenadas en 2018 o posterior y que cumplan al menos uno de los siguientes tres requisitos: cuya producción sea al menos en un 60% andaluza, o estar rodadas fundamentalmente en Andalucía o ser de dirección andaluza. Los trabajos a concurso deberán inscribirse antes del 15 de julio próximo por correo electrónico o por las plataformas Click For Festivals o Festhome. Los proyectos seleccionados, concursarán por el Pajarraco de Plata al Mejor Documental Nuevo Cine Andaluz, y en la categoría de Largometrajes de Ficción, el Pajarraco de Plata a la Mejor Dirección y a la Mejor Película. El público premiará con
el Pajarraco de Plata la que considere la Mejor Película del Festival.
Concurso de Fotografía También está abierto el plazo de inscripción para el Concurso de Fotografía Nuevo Cine Andaluz 2019. Podrán inscribirse hasta el próximo 31 de agosto aquellas fotografías realizadas por personas naturales o residentes en Andalucía. Las obras deben versar sobre la temática de cine, en su más amplia acepción. Las fotografías a concurso deben enviarse por correo electrónico a la dirección nuevocineandaluz@gmail.com. Entre las fotografías participantes, se seleccionarán 30 que integrarán la exposición de esta edición, entre las cuales el jurado premiará una obra con el Pajarraco de Plata a la Mejor Fotografía y 1.000 euros, además de entregar 3 accésits que recibirán distintos premios en especie.

El Ayuntamiento adjudica la redacción del proyecto para la remodelación integral del Paseo Marítimo
E
l Ayuntamiento de Estepona ha adjudicado la licitación del proyecto técnico para la remodelación integral del paseo marítimo que discurre desde Punta La Plata hasta el Puerto Deportivo. La oferta ganadora ha sido la presentada por Lindeo Ingenieros, S.L y el contrato se ha adjudicado por un total de 79.714,80 euros. A partir de ahora, la empresa seleccionada tiene un plazo de tres meses para presentar el proyecto de remodelación y embellecimiento de uno de los principales enclaves turísticos de la ciudad. El proyecto de remodelación supone actuar sobre una superficie de 19.645 metros cuadrados con una longitud de 2,5 km. Las obras propuestas consistirán en la renovación del pavimento, las infraestructuras y el mobiliario urbano del paseo marítimo. De esta manera, este equipamiento que fue ejecutado hace más de dos décadas, será modernizado y estará acorde con la transformación urbana que está teniendo lugar en el casco antiguo y en su entorno más próximo. El objetivo del Consistorio es renovar de forma homogénea la pavimentación y el mobiliario con materiales nobles y elementos de diseño, modernos y eficientes, así como una reordenación de espacios, pavimentos y señalización que permita potenciar el uso peatonal y eliminar las barreras arquitectónicas existentes. más, se procederá a la repoblación vegetal y la plantación de jardines y árboles en los espacios que se renueven y embellecen. Las obras en el paseo marítimo también incluirán una mejora de la red de saneamiento de la zona con un nuevo colector de aguas pluviales y fecales, así como la reposición de los elementos deteriorados. Asimismo, se mejorarán las redes de abastecimiento, gas natural, riego, alumbrado, telefonía y telecomunicaciones. Una vez que el Ayuntamiento disponga del proyecto técnico para la remodelación integral del paseo marítimo, licitará las obras
para su ejecución. El presupuesto de las mismas está estimado en 2,6 millones de euros. Las obras, que darán comienzo después de la temporada estival, tendrán una duración aproximada de nueve meses. El paseo marítimo quedará conectado al corredor litoral, un proyecto que está uniendo los 22 kilómetros de costa para que las personas puedan caminar o realizar deporte al aire libre. Hasta la fecha, se ha conseguido conectar más del 75 por ciento de la costa de Estepona, lo que supone un total de 17 kilómetros unidos por sendas peatonales.

The Council awards the drafting of the project for the complete remodeling of the Paseo Marítimo Estepona Town Council has awarded the tender for the technical project for the complete remodeling of the promenade that runs from Punta La Plata to the Marina. Likewise, supply networks, natural gas, irrigation, lighting, telephony and telecommunications will be improved. Once the Town Council has the technical project for the complete remodeling of the promenade, it will tender the works for its execution. The budget for these works is estimated at 2.6 million euros. The works, which will start after the summer season, will last approximately nine months. The promenade will be connected to the coastal corridor, a project that is connecting the 22 kilometres of coastline so that people can walk or play outdoors. To date, more than 75 percent of the coast of Estepona has been connected, which means a total of 17 kilometres linked by pedestrian paths.

Celebraciones San Isidro Labrador 2019 Estepona celebra su santo patrón, San Isidro Labrador, con una feria del 10 al 15 de mayo cada año. San Isidro Labrador, quien por cierto también es el patrón de Madrid, vivió en Madrid durante el siglo XII cuando no era más que un pueblo, donde trabajaba como humilde campesino. Siempre estuvo absorto en la oración,
pero según la leyenda, su carga de trabajo fue asumida por los ángeles para dejarle tiempo para sus devociones, ¡debo recordar eso! El día del santo San Isidro Labrador se celebra el 15 de mayo, que este año cae en miércoles, y esto tradicionalmente se acompaña de una feria con celebraciones,
concursos, procesiones por toda la ciudad y atracciones en el recinto ferial. Cabe destacar también que el miércoles 15 es un día festivo local en Estepona, por lo que puede que muchas de las tiendas y los negocios estén cerrados.

San Isidro Labrador celebrations 2019 Estepona celebrates its Patron Saint, San Isidro Labrador with feria from the 10th to 15th May every year. San Isidro Labrador, who incidentally is also Madrid’s patron, lived in Madrid during the 12th century when it was but a village, where he worked as a lowly farm labourer. He was always engrossed in prayer but according to legend his workload was taken on by angels so as to leave him time for his devotions, must remember that one!
The saint’s day San Isidro Labrador is actually celebrated on the 15th May, which this year falls on Wednesday, and this is traditionally accompanied by a feria with celebrations, competitions, processions throughout the town and a funfair at the fairground. Worth noting also is that Wednesday, 15th is a local holiday in Estepona so expect many of the shops and businesses to be closed.

IX Concurso Nacional Cortadores de Jamón “ Popi Ciudad de Estepona” El Ayuntamiento de Estepona informa que el sábado, 18 de mayo de 2019, se celebrará el IX Concurso Nacional de Cortadores de Jamón ‘Popi, Ciudad de Estepona’, que reunirá a los mejores profesionales del país. El evento, que estaba previsto para el pasado mes de marzo coincidiendo con el evento ‘Estepona vive sus calles’, fue suspendido debido a la lluvia. En total serán 10 los participantes que concursen en esta edición. Carlos Garrido de Dos Hermanas, Antonio Sánchez de Badajoz, Juan Carlos Meléndez de Estepona, Javier Fernández de León, José Manuel Yuste de Torremolinos, Antonio Pozo de Martín de la Jara (Sevilla), Cristina Hernández de Málaga, Jesús García de Los Palacios (Sevilla), Alejandro Berzosa de Torremolinos y Vicente García de Los Palacios (Sevilla). Los concursantes tendrán que demostrar su pericia a la hora de cortar un jamón, mientras el jurado valorará, entre otros aspectos, el estilo del cortador, el emplatado o que los participantes sean capaces de cortar raciones de 100 gramos a ojo. El jurado estará formado por cinco personas. Entre ellos el ganador de la pasada edición, Cristo Muñoz. Además, formarán parte del jurado Pepe Torrecilla, Ramón Jaime, Francisco Hernández y el organizador del evento, José María Téllez ‘Popi’. El evento se celebrará en el Paseíllo de la calle Real de 12:00 a las 16:00 horas. Allí, además de poder contemplar a los
cortadores participar en este concurso nacional, los asistentes podrán degustar platos del mejor jamón al precio de 6 euros el plato. El teniente alcalde del área Sociocultural y Servicios, Blas Ruzafa, ha señalado que este evento organizado por José
María Téllez ‘Popi’ ha conseguido vincular el nombre de Estepona al del jamón y a los productos ibéricos de primer nivel, por lo que se ha mostrado convencido de que en esta edición continuará atrayendo a los interesados en nuestra gastronomía.

El alcalde, José María García Urbano, ha hecho hoy entrega de ayudas económicas, por un valor total de 8.880 euros, a las deportistas de élite de Estepona Natalia Fischer Equisquiza, Carmen Villalba Sánchez y Ana Moncada Sánchez. El primer edil ha destacado la gran trayectoria deportiva de estas tres jóvenes esteponeras, que cuentan con un palmarés lleno de éxitos, y que están trabajando para poder participar en los próximos Juegos Olímpicos. Como ejemplo de la brillante carrera de estas tres deportistas, el responsable municipal ha querido referir alguno de sus títulos, como los de Natalia Fischer (duatlón, triatlón y ciclismo) que se proclamó en 2014 Campeona de España sub-23 Duatlón Cross Calella y Subcampeona del Mundo de Duatlón , en 2015 fue Campeona de Europa de Duatlón y en 2016 Campeona de España sub-23 Duatlón Larga Distancia. En ciclismo, sus logros más actuales han sido en el Campeonato de Andalucía y España y en la Copa del Mundo de Maratón, donde quedó 2ª en la general. The Mayor highlighted the great sports careers of these three young athletes, who have a track record full of successes, and are working towards a place at the next Olympic Games. And finally the sailor Ana Moncada, who is three times Champion of Andalucia in the Vela Laser 4.7 class, Spanish Champion in the Laser 4.7, European Runner up in Laser 4.7 and Subchampion of the World in Laser 4.7 and in radial Laser. In 2018 she was third in the Laser Radial Youth World Championship and the Laser Radial Under 21 Spanish Cup. El Ayuntamiento de Estepona ha ordenado una revisión complementaria del tobogán, a la empresa instaladora del mismo, cuya seguridad y homologación habían sido certificadas por la empresa especialista instaladora del mismo. El Ayuntamiento tenía colocadas indicaciones de cómo se debe usar el tobogán de forma adecuada para no comportar riesgos. Entre ellas, las de prohibido deslizarse tumbado, obligatorio deslizarse sentado y con los brazos recogidos o no usar la instalación si está siendo usada por otra persona, entre otras recomendaciones. De esta forma, la imagen difundida ampliamente por redes sociales corresponde a un hecho aislado, ya que más de un millar de usuarios probaron ayer esta infraestructuras haciendo un uso adecuado de la misma y, por tanto, sin ninguna incidencia; si bien, el Consistorio ante esta situación, ha solicitado esta nueva revisión
The new slide which opened last week Thur 7th may has had a few accidents since being used by locals and visitors, the 38 meter long slide may be a bit steep for some people and others that have no idea on how to use a slide. The idea was for residents to move from one street to another with ease but after a few maybe a couple of incidents the council have now closed it for a review. The stainless-steel chute, reputed to be Spain’s longest, has a gradient that varies between 32 and 34 degrees. It was intended to give residents of all ages a quick way to travel between the streets, which sit at very different levels. However the rest of the Parque de Los Niños has included the construction of a pedestrian path next to the slide of 2.30 meters wide. This path has handrails and also allows the connection between both streets. The mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, pointed out that the expansion of the park has meant an increase in green areas by 14,000

Encuentro Internacional y Día de la Familia

l sábado 18 de mayo se llevará a cabo el XIII Encuentro Internacional Villa de Manilva y el Día de la Familia. Organizado por la delegación de Residentes Extranjeros en colaboración con la Hermandad de la Virgen del Carmen del Castillo de la Duquesa y Adana, esta jornada, contará con muchas actividades para todos los públicos. Asfaltado de los caminos de Jacinto Porro y La Loma El alcalde de Manilva Mario Jiménez, acompañado del delegado de Agricultura Diego Urieta, visitaron el camino de Jacinto Porro y La Loma, para comprobar la finalización de las labores de adecentamiento y asfaltado de esta zona en la que se han invertido más de 20.000 € y cuyos trabajos se han desarrollado en dos fases. Como indicaba el regidor manilveño, es muy importante el arreglo y mantenimiento de este tipo de caminos rurales, que
benefician tanto a los agricultores como a los vecinos que transitan por la vía para acceder a sus hogares. De esta manera se garantiza la seguridad del tráfico rodado. La intención del primer edil es seguir apostando por este tipo de infraestructuras, ya que lo considera fundamental para que los manilveños puedan circular con seguridad por estas vías. De hecho para este 2019, está prevista una inversión de más de 60.000 €, como afirmó Jiménez.

La unidad móvil del Centro de Transfusión Sanguínea visitará Manilva el 22 de mayo Desde el Centro de Transfusión Sanguínea de Málaga se informa que dentro de su programación habitual ha previsto realizar una nueva colecta de sangre en Manilva para el día 22 de mayo en horario de cinco de la tarde a nueve de la noche en el salón de plenos del Ayuntamiento. La donación de sangre es una necesidad social. Para abastecer las necesidades de nuestra Comunidad son necesarias unas
40 donaciones por cada 1000 habitantes y año. Hay tres motivos muy importantes para donar: La sangre no se puede fabricar. Sólo se puede obtener de donantes. La sangre es imprescindible para operaciones y urgencias. La sangre caduca, y no se puede almacenar por un tiempo indefinido. Desde el centro de transfusión se recomienda que la noche anterior
a la donación se duerma bien, se debe acudir tras haber ingerido una comida pobre en grasas, – nunca en ayunas- y evite fumar desde al menos una hora antes de la donación. Y si tienen tendencia a tener niveles bajos de hierro, puede prepararse tomando alimentos ricos, como carnes rojas, hígado, pescado y huevos. También las legumbres y frutos secos son ricos en este nutriente.

Blood donation is a social need. To supply the needs of our community, approximately 40 donations are required per 1000 inhabitants every year. There are three very important reasons to donate: Blood cannot be manufactured. It
can only be obtained from donors. Blood is essential for operations and emergencies. Blood expires, and can not be stored indefinitely. The transfusion centre recommends that the night before donating you should get a good night’s sleep, you should go after having eaten a meal low in fat, never fasting, and avoid smoking for at least one hour before donation. And if you have a tendency to low iron levels, you can prepare by taking
rich foods, such as red meat, liver, fish and eggs. Also pulses and nuts are rich in this nutrient. ***According to the latest Cruz Roja guidelines you cannot donate blood if you have spent more than cumulative stay of more than 12 months in the UK between 1980 and 1996, either continuously or intermittently. Nor in the case of having received a blood transfusion in the UK during that period. This is due to the outbreak of mad cow disease during that period.

El próximo 26 de mayo, los ciudadanos están convocados para acudir a las urnas y ejercer su derecho al voto de cara a las elecciones municipales y al Parlamento Europeo. De esta manera, aquellos electores que no estarán en la localidad en la fecha señalada o bien no puedan acudir a la zona de votación, pueden emitir su voto por correo. Para ello, deben acudir a cualquier oficina de correos y rellenar el impreso de solicitud, que podrá entregarse hasta el 16 de mayo. Esta petición debe realizarse personalmente por cada elector, salvo en caso de enfermedad o discapacidad que impida hacerlo personalmente, lo que deberá acreditarse mediante certificado médico. Una vez completado el modelo oficial, este deberá entregarse en la oficina postal de su elección. Es fundamental identificarse, ya sea con el Documento Nacional de Identidad (en este caso no sirve el resguardo del D.N.I. en trá-
La Junta de Gobierno local realizaba en pasados días el sorteo público para los nombramientos de los miembros de las mesas electorales para las elecciones al Parlamento Europeo y Locales del 26 de mayo de 2019. La política de la administración comunitaria, ¿democrática o dictatorial? La semana pasada tuve el honor de presentar la Candidatura para Compromiso Manilva, de cara a las elecciones locales que se celebrarán el 26 de mayo en Manilva. Durante la presentación, en el escenario, frente a casi 1.000 personas, pensé en qué tan diferente es la política municipal de la comunitaria, o tal vez no… Podemos votar sobre quién nos representará en el gobierno local cada cuatro años y tienen 4 años para demostrar su valía y llevar a cabo sus proyectos, para cumplir sus promesas electorales, y esto nos parece bien. Normalmente cumplen el mandato completo, al menos que se rompa una coalición u haya algún asunto de palabras mayores por lo que haya que adelantar las elecciones. El periodo de cuatro años está bien, da estabilidad política, o debería, y les da tiempo para demostrar su valía y cumplir con sus promesas. Para una comunidad de propietarios, encontrar la estabilidad es la clave para una gestión de éxito. Las personas que estén al mando deben saber trabajar en equipo. Este equipo está formado por el Presidente, el Comité y el Administrador. Como he dicho anteriormente, es vital que todos ejerzan su cargo por las razones
correctas. Cuando una comunidad es inestable, debido a distintos bandos, luchas por votos y por poder, y delegaciones de votos que dan algunos propietarios sin conocer el fondo de los asuntos, esto puede ser altamente perjudicial para la Comunidad. Puede afectar el trabajo en equipo de los responsables y la dirección de la Comunidad y por lo tanto encarecer la cuota comunitaria por no tener un plan de actuación adecuado a las necesidades del conjunto. En las Comunidades hay elecciones cada año en la Junta, pero si el 25% de los propietarios quiere, puede pedir una JGE. Si lo que se quiere es cambiar al Administrador, hay que tener cuidado con no rescindir unilateralmente el contrato, ya que puede haber indemnización por cese anticipado. Por lo general, recomiendo que una Comunidad no cambie de Presidente y Administrador al mismo tiempo, ya que se puede perder demasiada información en el cambio. Lo mejor es identificar los problemas reales que tiene la Comunidad y buscarles solución antes de hacer cualquier cambio. Hay veces que la Junta directiva no puede trabajar en equipo, y es entonces cuando hay que celebrar una Junta Extraordinaria. El
trabajo en equipo es fundamental para que una comunidad funcione, esto implica que haya que planificar, implementar plazos y tener una organización adecuada. Si no tratamos la Comunidad como si fuera una empresa, ésta difícilmente crecerá. Se necesita una adecuada implicación personal, a la vez que un ambiente de estabilidad para que funcione correctamente. Las comunidades más difíciles de administrar y las más caras son aquellas que están divididas y donde los intereses personal se anteponen a que los comunes. Pero, volviendo a la política, os he de confesar que lo que no me gusta de mi profesión es el ambiente político que hay en las comunidades, las votaciones y las implica-
ciones personales que esto tiene. A veces no importa si haces un buen trabajo, lo importante es que le hayas tenido que negar a un propietario una obra que no apruebe la comunidad, y la presión de no saber si el contrato se va a renovar hasta el mismo día de la Junta. Hay Administradores que no soportan esta presión. Cuando estéis buscando Administrador, no os fijéis únicamente en lo que ponga en su presupuesto, visitad sus oficinas, reuniros con ellos, en fin, busca un administrador con el que pueda haber una buena relación de trabajo y que quiera lo mismo que vosotros para la Comunidad. Un presupuesto lo puede escribir cualquiera, pero cumplirlo es como
cumplir las promesas electorales, se puede hacer, pero hay que trabajar duro para lograrlo. Por suerte para nosotros, o tal vez por cómo nos organizamos, tenemos un índice de renovación contractual altísimo, y tenemos clientes que llevan con nosotros desde el primer día, y de eso hace ya más de 10 años, así que algo estaremos haciendo bien digo yo. The politics of Community Administration – democratic or dictatorial?
Last week I had the honor of presenting the Candidacy for of Compromiso Manilva, one of our local Political Parties, ahead of the local elections that will be held on the 26th of May in Manilva. During the presentation, standing there on the stage, in front of nearly 1.000 people, I was thinking about how different Town politics are from Community politics, or maybe they are not… We can vote on who will represent our town every four years. They then have that term to prove their worth and carry out their projects, to keep their word in their electoral promises, and we are fine with that. Normally they succeed the full term of office, unless coalitions are broke or there is a mayor issue that can only be addressed by bringing the elections forward. This term of four years is a good term, it provides political stability, or it should, and it gives them time to prove themselves and complete their promises. When it comes down to Communi-
ties, finding stability is the key to successful management. You need to put together the right team to work for the Community; this includes the President, Committee and Administrator. As I‘ve said before, it is important to make sure that everyone is in it for the right reasons. When a community is unstable, because of factions, in fighting and proxy votes, which are given by owners with little further knowledge on the situation, this can be highly detrimental for all owners. At times this may create a tendency of lack of direction and hence, money wasted due to a lack of proper planning. Formal elections take place every year at the AGM, however, if 25% of owners want to call an EGM to change any of the positions, they are legally entitled to do so. If the position to be changed is the Administrator, there could be a breach in contract for not completing the term agreed at the AGM, so do your homework beforehand. I usually recommend that a Community does not change President and Administrator at the same time, as too much information can be lost in the changeover. Identify the real issues that the Community has regarding the management, and address these first, prior to making any changes. Sometimes the working relationship between the members is not functioning correctly, and that is when elections need to be held. Team work is the foundations for a Community to function; this involves business planning, deadlines and proper organization. If the Community is not treated as a business then it will not flourish, personal involvement is needed, but a stable
atmosphere is vital for it to function correctly. The hardest communities to manage and the most expensive ones are those who are divided and where personal interests are put before the common ones. But, back to politics. I can say, to this date, that what I don’t like about my profession is the politics behind the position, the voting and the personal implications. Sometimes how well you do your job doesn’t matter, if you had to give the wrong person a ‘no’ to an extension to their property, and the pressure of not knowing if your contract will be renewed until after each AGM, is a hard one to tackle for some Administrators. When looking for an Administrator, meet with them, speak to them and make sure you are on the same page. Anyone can write a proposal, but keeping up to it is a different ball game altogether. The Reality of our Numbers The financial and employment figures are always difficult to interpret, and this can lead to many different points of view and half truths. Here you can see how the Town Hall’s debt has evolved, as well as employment and unemployment figures, the Council taxes we all pay; these are the real numbers to be taken into account. You can clearly see that we are evolving positively in all the main financial factors. We have managed to reduce the burden of council taxes that our property owners pay, as well as the taxes for business owners, and we have the lowest unemployment since 2007. To this we must add that our Town Hall’s debts are lower than ever.

4. Investment of one million euros per year for street cleaning. We will increase the budget to maintain the efficient and effective service that our residents deserve. 5. Complete remodelling of our Promenade. This would be carried out in phases and out of season, as it is one of our main tourist resources.

TIEMPO DE HACERSE RESIDENTE FISCAL EN ESPAÑA De acuerdo con la ley española, todas las personas que viven en España más de 183 días al año son residentes fiscales en España y deben pagar impuestos en España por sus ingresos mundiales. Muchos extranjeros viven permanentemente en España (más de 183 días al año), no pagan ningún impuesto en España, o no presentan declaraciones anuales de la renta. Algunos no presentan la declaración de la renta por ignorancia, y otros porque están asustados de pagar altos impuestos. Todo el mundo debe saber que la ignorancia de la ley no es una excusa, la declaración de la renta debe presentarse anualmente, y los impuestos de ben ser pagados cuando sea aplicable a todos los residentes fiscales en España. Hasta el día de hoy, la Agencia Tributaria no ha estado controlando la situación de aquellos extranjeros que viven de forma permanente en España, a pesar del hecho de que las autoridades son conscientes de este importante grupo de personas. Ahora la situación ha cambiado, debido a la crisis financiera el gobierno español intenta controlar a
todos los extranjeros que viven en España para asegurarse que pagan sus impuestos cuando tiene obligación de hacerlo; y así evitar que miles de personas reciban asistencia sanitaria gratis sin pagar impuestos y sin tener derecho legal a recibirla. El gobiernos español se ha decidido a ser más estricto con los requisitos necesarios que permiten a las personas obtener la tarjeta sanitaria española. Al contrario de lo que ocurría en el pasado, ya no será suficiente con registrarse en el ayuntamiento (empadronarse) para obtener tratamiento médico. Por tanto, AHORA es el momento de ser residente fiscal en España formalmente mediante la presentación de la declaración de la renta del año 2018, durante los meses de mayo y junio. 2019. Hay muchas buenas razones para hacer ello. Esto permitirá a los extranjeros residentes: 1. Confirmar a la Agencia tributaria sin ninguna duda, que ellos son residentes fiscales en España, que viven permanentemente aquí y pagan sus impuestos cuan-

do tiene la obligación de hacerlo. Tener derecho legal a recibir tarjeta sanitaria que permite el acceso al sistema público de salud español. Evitar el 3 % de retención aplicable a non-residentes cuando venden un inmueble y no pueden probar que son residentes fiscales en España. Beneficiarse de las ventajas y deducciones que el impuesto de sucesiones y donaciones aplica a los residentes fiscales (por ejemplo, no impuesto de sucesiones entre esposos, sobre la vivienda habitual). Ser considerado residente fiscal en España, y así evitar el impuesto de renta presenta aplicable a los no residentes que son propietarios de bienes inmuebles en España (modelo 210).
Es importante mencionar que la mayoría de los extranjeros que viven en España son pensionistas con bajas pensiones mensuales, por lo que deben ser conscientes de que probablemente no tendrán que pagar ningún impuesto de la renta en España porque el resultado de su declaración de la renta será probablemente cero. Sin embargo, es recomendable presentar la declaración (incluso cuando el resultado es cero y no hay impuestos que pagar), para que se puedan aprovechar de los puntos anteriormente mencionados. CONCLUSIÓN: Si tú eres extranjero y vives permanente en España te recomendamos presentar tu declaración de la renta del año 2018 durante los meses de mayo y junio. Haciendo esto, confirmarás a la Agencia tributaria que eres, sin lugar a dudas, residente fiscal en España, evitarás problemas potenciales y multas, y tendrás todos los derechos que las leyes españolas reconocen a todos los individuos que residen legalmente en España y pagan sus impuestos aquí. TIME TO FORMALLY BECOME A TAX RESIDENT IN SPAIN According to the Spanish Law all individuals who live in Spain for more than 183 days a year should become tax residents and pay taxes for their worldwide income in Spain. Many foreigners living in Spain permanently, (i.e. for more than 183 days a year), do not pay any taxes in Spain. Some do not submit annual tax returns out of ignorance of the law, and others because they are afraid of paying high taxes. Everyone should be aware that ignorance of the law is no excuse, A Tax return should be submitted annually, and taxes should be paid when applicable by all residents in Spain. Up to date, the Spanish Inland Revenue has not been monitoring the situation of those foreigners living permanently in Spain, but due to the improved communications between tax authorities in different countries the Spanish Government will be able to tighten its control of foreigners living in Spain to ensure that they pay taxes in Spain when due. The Spanish Tax Year runs from January 1st to December 30th, and residents should submit a tax return for 2018 between May 1st and June 30th, 2019. Therefore, NOW is the time to formally become a tax resident in Spain by submitting your annual income tax return for the tax year 2018. There are many good reasons for doing this. It will enable foreign residents to: 1. Confirm to the Spanish tax authorities without doubt, that they, are living in Spain, and paying taxes when applicable. 2. Have the legal right to receive a health card which allows access to the Spanish Public health system. 3. Avoid the 3 % withholding tax when a real estate property is sold. This tax is applicable to foreigners who sell a property and cannot prove that they are a tax resident in Spain. 4. Benefit from the inheritance tax advantages and allowances applicable to tax residents in Spain (i.e. no inheritance taxes between spouses on the main home). 5. Be considered a tax resident in Spain, thus avoiding the income tax applicable to non-resident foreigners who are owners of a real estate property in Spain (tax form 210). It is important to mention that most foreigners living in Spain are pensioners with low monthly pensions, so they should be aware that they probably will not have to pay any income tax in Spain as the result of their tax return would most likely be zero. However, it is still recommendable to submit an annual tax return, (even if the result is zero and no tax has to be paid), to enable them to be able to take advantage of the above points. CONCLUSION: If you are foreigner living permanently in Spain, we would recommend that you submit an annual income tax return during the months of May and June 2019 for the tax year 2018. By doing this, you will confirm to the Spanish Tax Authorities that you are, without doubt, a resident in Spain, you will avoid any potential problems or fines, and will have all the legal rights that the Spanish Laws recognizes are due to all individuals residing legally in Spain and duly paying their taxes here. Manilva formará parte del Concurso de Fotografía Digital Arqueológica Cilniana, la Asociación para la Defensa del Patrimonio y Acosol han organizado la primera edición de un concurso de fotografía basado en el patrimonio arqueológico de los municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental: Manilva, Casares, Estepona, Benahavís, Marbella, Istán, Ojén, Mijas, Fuengirola, Benalmádena y Torremolinos. El Concurso Cilniana de Fotografía Digital Arqueológica de la Costa del Sol Occidental, en el que podrán participar tanto profesionales como aficionados, tendrá una temática relacionada con la arqueología de la Costa del Sol. Cada participante podrá presentar un máximo de tres obras, tanto en blanco y negro como en color, y deberán llevar cada una un título y, de forma opcional, un resumen explicativo.
Las fotos se enviarán junto con los datos del autor (nombre y apellidos, dirección postal, DNI o documento que acredite su identificación y teléfono de contacto) y en caso de ser menor de edad se adjuntará la autorización pertinente. Se repartirán un primer premio de 500 euros, un segundo, con 300 euros y un tercer premio,

Manilva will form part of the Digital Archaeological Photography Competition Cilniana, the Association for the Defense of Heritage, and the water utility company Acosol have organized the first edition of a photography contest based on the archaeological heritage of the municipalities of the Western Costa del Sol: Manilva, Casares, Estepona, Benahavís, Marbella, Istán, Ojén, Mijas, Fuengirola, Benalmádena and Torremolinos.
The Cilnian Digital Archaeological Photography Competition of the Western Costa del Sol, which is open to both professionals and amateurs, will have a theme related to the archeology of the Costa del Sol. Each participant may submit a maximum of three works, both in black and white and in color, and each must have a title and, optionally, an
explanatory summary. The photos will be sent together with the author's information (name and surname, postal address, ID or document that proves your identification and a contact telephone number) and in the case of being a minor, the pertinent authorization will be attached. There will be a first prize of 500 euros,

Concert "Magiterraneo" By Daniel Casares Friday 31 May | 8.30 pm Magiterráneo is a record that will be recorded live in both audio and video, and will be part of a documentary about the Spanish guitar in the world, according to the experience of Daniel Casares. In addition to the Estepona musician, during the concert you can enjoy performances by a number of guest artists. Daniel Casares travels thousands of kilometres every year, attending every festival or concert where he is requested in the world, but as always, he says, he needs to return to his homeland, to the Mediterranean
shores, to compose and inspire his music. A complete production team will carry out the filming on 29, 30 and 31 at TAF Felipe VI Auditorium in Estepona. Several shoots will happen in the surroundings of the town, in which will feature different personalities who will talk about Daniel and the guitar. Both the disc and the documentary, will be for sale in CD format and possibly DVD, and will be distributed by regional, national and digital networks.

Secondhand books for sale From 3 for 1 € Hundreds of titles Last month Estepona Floral Art Club celebrated their 20th Anniversary, a beautiful sunny day meant the 62 members, friends and guests were able to start the day with a poolside cup of coffee at the Hotel Fuerte, Estepona. The days demonstration, 'Let's Celebrate' was given by Northern Irishmen James Burnside and Alan Beatty. These gentleman have visited Estepona on several occasions in the past to demonstrate and once again they did not disappoint. The ladies and gentleman in the audience were entertained, instructed in Floral design and taught some of the intricacies of leaf manipulation whilst the duo created six stunningly colourful arrangements with what appeared to be great ease. After the demonstration everyone enjoyed a tasty tapas lunch which was followed by a celebratory glass of cava and cake. Chairman Janet Cheetham and her committee, who organised a great day, were delighted that seven of the eight ladies who have been chairman of the club during the last 20 years, including founder Mavis Tolfree, were able to be present on this occasion. The members have been able to download a digital booklet of photos of the day which was created by Charles Brierley who recorded the event for prosperity. This month the celebrations continue with a demonstration by Nigel Whyles from Shropshire. Nigel's demonstration, 'A Floral Celebration' is on Tuesday 21 May at 3pm at the Clubs usual venue Agro Jardin, Cancelada. Since he was here last Nigel has twice been to Barbados as part of a team of designers to help stage a flower festival for a local church. Demonstrations are an enjoyable afternoon of live entertainment where you can appreciate
the beauty of flowers, pick up lots of hints and tips on all aspects of floral art, gardening and plant information. Age Concern Newsletter Spring 2019 Reorganisation Hello again and a Happy New Year– time has passed me by and before I realised it, I needed to get a newsletter written at the start of a New Year. The end of 2018 saw Age Concern, Estepona and Manilva, withdraw from the Federation of Age Concerns in Spain and start to set up a stand alone organisation concentrating on the needs of people in our community. The Federation was established to help ACO's develop and also to help set up new
ones. That work has now ended and to avoid paying for services we no longer need we are withdrawing. This saves us money and allows our funds to be used for our local needs. We will be in control of our finances, legal matters and organisation. The people working within the Federation have done a superb job over recent years and I am grateful to them for the hard work they put into the organisation.
IT We were very fortunate in recruiting two new Friends from the Alcaidesa area, Tim and Yvonne. Yvonne is working in the Charitable Society of St George shop in Sabinillas and Tim has immersed himself in unravelling the mysteries of Web Pages and Facebook for us.
A new club/group has been formed with the aim of making items such as scarves, hats, blankets etc that can be sold from St. Georges charity shop, Sabinillas to boost funds or could be donated directly to those in need who would be identified via the appropriate organisations. Anyone with any knitting , sewing or crochet skills we need your expertise to help those of us who know nothing about these things! So whether you are a lady or a gent, can knit or not, everyone and anyone can come along and join in ,the more the merrier!
Meetings are held at the New Fathoms every Wednesday from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm. There is coffee, cake or tapas available to buy. . Please can anyone, individuals or shop owners who have any balls of wool, or sewing materials that you would donate to this worthy cause, either bring them along on the day or drop off at the Saint George charity shop, Sabinillas. Friends Of Age Concern Friends of Age Concern are a considerable asset to the charity as they provide support to the volunteers by registering their approval of the work that the charity undertakes. More Friends are sought for the rest of this and for the coming year to enlarge the Age Concern Community and ensure that as many supporters as possible can take advantage of reduced rates for events. What is a Friend of Age Concern? A Friend is a person who does not necessarily want to
play an active role in the work of the charity but who supports its aims and objectives and wants to show that support. Membership as a Friend entitles the individual to a Friend’s card, an advanced copy of the newsletters that are produced, as well as early knowledge of forthcoming events. The Future I do not intend to try and guess the future but it is apparent from the work we do that the number of calls for help and advice from Age Concern is growing. People are clearly worried about their income and savings as the deadline for leaving the EU gets nearer. We can offer no advice on that except talk to a financial adviser. As for Age Concern, 2019 will throw up new
challenges and we need to be ready to face them whatever they are. To do that more volunteers are needed as well as people to organise fund raising events so that the volunteers working in the community have solid support for the work they carry out on behalf of the charity. We will continue to liaise with the Council and keep them informed as to our activities.

Adana Dog Show ADANA, the Estepona based dog rescue and rehoming charity, held its twenty-fifth annual Dog Show at the Estepona Palacio de Congresos. Over five hundred people attended throughout the day to take part with their dogs in the many competitions, to watch the exciting display by the popular Estepona Canine Unit or simply to watch the shows and browse the many stalls selling everything from dog food, dog care products and many other items or to enjoy a drink and a sandwich or hot meal at the ADANA Café/bar. The winner of the Best in Show
competition, Badger companion of Wendy Stromberg, went away with the Sandra Walker Kincaid Memorial Trophy, named in honour of long-time ADANA Volunteer Sandra who sadly passed away last year. A full list of prize winners with photos can be seen on the ADANA website adana.es and will be included in the next issue of the monthly newsletter. President Mary Page said the event was as usual a great success and brought in much needed funds to help care for the over one hundred dogs at the ADANA shelter in the Parque de
los Pedregales, Estepona. “The Show not only gives a lot of publicity to ADANA and the ever growing problem of abandoned dogs in the area but is also a fun day for families and their dogs. Now we are planning our next big event, the Christmas Fair, which will be held at the Estepona Palacio in November.” Mary said that she and the ADANA Team would like to thank everyone who helped organise the event, especially Judges Sabrina Hope and Nazli Kreft van den Kieboom of the Pointer Clinic, Estepona.

Tiendas benéficas Saint George La organización benéfica St George cuenta con tres tiendas benéficas, dos en Sabinillas, Manilva y otra en La Cancelada, Estepona. En Sabinillas, una de las tiendas vende ropa, zapatos, sombreros y accesorios de segunda mano, mientras que la otra vende una amplia gama de muebles usados, objetos decorativos, artículos para el hogar, libros, CDs, DVDs, etc. En la tienda de Cancelada se pueden encontrar todos los mismos tipos de artículos que en las dos anteriores además de muebles más grandes como sofás y camas. Gracias a las generosas donaciones recibidas, hay nuevos artículos en todas las tiendas a diario. ¡Pásate por las tiendas regularmente para no perderte ninguna ganga! Además de contar con algunos artículos geniales, las tiendas benéficas de St George también ofrecen la opción de alquilar algunos de sus ofrendas como sillas de ruedas, muletas, cunas de viaje, etc. La organización de la tienda siempre agradece las donaciones

BuddyUp (Manilva) Community Support Group In response to a tragic situation earlier in the year a number of local residents came together to form the BuddyUp (Manilva) Community Support Group, a ‘befriending’ group to provide support, comfort and a point of contact for people facing a variety of challenges. The BuddyUp group is coordinated by Marguerite Wilkins, and already has a number of members signed up. Working closely with other local charities and organisations, including the Duquesa Charitable Society of St George, Age Concern, Estepona and Manilva, Citizens’ Advice, Cudeca, Social Services, etc., the group aims to provide support and advice for the elderly, disabled, those who have recently lost a partner, single parents, divorcees, the socially excluded, people that are new to the area, in fact anyone who might need someone to talk to or just pointing in the right direction.
BuddyUp volunteers work in pairs and have access to a wide range of resources to call upon depending on the needs of those they are assisting. Saint George Charity Shops The St George Charity operates three charity shops, two in Sabinillas, Manilva and one in La Cancelada, Estepona. In Sabinillas one of the shops sells quality second hand clothing, shoes, hats and accessories; whilst the other sells a wide range of secondhand furniture, decorative items, household goods, books, cds,
dvds, etc. Our shop in La Cancelada sells the same full range of secondhand items as our Sabinillas shops and also stocks larger items of furniture and beds. Thanks to our generous donors there are new items in the shops daily, so visit regularly so as not to miss out on that fabulous bargain.
As well as stocking some great quality items the St George Charity shops also rent out various items such as wheelchairs, walking aids, travel cots, etc. The shop management welcome donations of quality secondhand items, and can arrange collection if needed. We are also looking for secondhand books, especially in languages other than English, to populate are extensive bookshelves. Food Bank The Saint George Charity runs a food bank initiative to help local people who are finding it difficult to make ends meet, and invites people to donate non-perishable goods, such as long life milk, pasta, rice, biscuits, tinned meat and fish, tinned vegetables, etc., along with toiletries, personal hygiene and cleaning items.
The charity will supplement these items with fresh produce, and will distribute on a weekly basis to a number of individuals and families that have been identified as being in urgent need of this service. URBAN WITNESSES - Stoa Gallery, Estepona This is the third exhibition at the STOA Gallery dedicated exclusively to Paz Aymerich. The Madrid-born artist has worked with the gallery since its inaugural exhibition in 2006. Paz lives and feels the city on a deeper level than most. Her cityscapes instantly captivate the viewer and transport us to a new urban dimension. Paz’s subjective vision revealing a friendly, lyrical and ideal city prevails throughout her early works, a vision that has evolved, with the artist’s eye becoming more searching, less serene and more assertive. As she herself has matured, so too have her paintings, in which, without abandoning the genre, she addresses the problem of overcrowded cities: the vanishing human sized buildings engulfed by enormous skyscrapers that dominate the new metropolitan skyline. Through the works showcased here, all on large canvases, we discover urban patterns and silhouettes that we would have hardly noticed, or only perceived in a more trivial manner: patterns that almost seem anthropomorphic and initiate a dialogue with the author revealing

Llevaba meses negando lo evidente: Intentando vivir en una realidad que, hacía tiempo lo había abandonado; no quería admitir que todo se transforma, y él no iba a ser una excepción. Con el temblor que suele parir la emoción de lo negativo y de lo positivo, Juanito se pasó el dedo índice por encima del labio superior descubriendo algo terrible. ¡Tenía vellos! How to measure your success! Most people judge their success by how much they weigh, but not all weight loss is equal, muscle loss is negative where fat loss is positive, but how do you tell the difference? And are there better ways to measure your success. From a PT point of view, I use the following: Initially, I will use a ‘bodystat’ machine which measures the body’s composition, how much fat, muscle, water and bone the body has, it also advises the ideal range. If your plan is to lose a lot of weight, then this machine won’t lie. If the weight on the scale keeps going down then that’s probably a good indication you’re losing, but remember not all loss is equal at least this machine allows you to measure what you are losing and it allows you to make changes to ensure that your goals are being met, and that you are not losing muscle instead of fat when trying to bulk up. That is why you can’t just rely on the scale to tell keep track of your gains. That’s what most people do, just hop onto the scale, and if they gained 5 pounds they just assume it was muscle and keep on doing what they are doing not knowing if their diet or training is doing them any good.

Log Book Personally, I keep a daily log book, I keep track of every workout that I do, what my 1 max rep is per weight lifting move, my times per fitness challenge, what foods I have eaten on any given day and how much sleep I have had per day, for most people this would seem obsessive, but for me it is a way of measuring my personal success, and what events in my day may have affected it someway.
If you don’t record everything you do in and out of the gym or kitchen, you will never know how much progress you’re making. You wouldn’t know when to up the weight, or what exercises to do in your next training programme, or let alone even know when you should make changes to see changes. You would never know what training and diet programs worked best for you. And worst of all if you’re overtraining or doing something very wrong with your diet you wouldn’t know what the problem would be since nothing is written down. So just invest a little time and make a good quality log, don’t play it by ear and be lazy. Most programmes will offer some success, but most programs need tweaking to suit the individual, knowing when and what to tweak is the real key to improving your body , whether to lose weight, get faster or stronger or even just healthier, LOG IT!
