Southern Entrance

We would like to remind parents and carers that the gate at the southern entrance will be locked at 08:23 each morning. Students arriving after this time should enter via the main entrance in Cricklefield Place.

Safeguarding

The welfare and safety of our students is our priority. We do everything possible to ensure our students’ safety, both within the school community and outside of school, including working with relevant agencies to address any issues related to child protection. Students are informed of who they should go to should they have a concern about their own safety or the safety of others. At INA, all staff have regular safeguarding training to ensure that they are able to meet their statutory responsibilities. We also have a number of staff who are designated to respond to any child protection concerns and to liaise with social services: Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) Leanne Abbott-Jones Vice Principal Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) Tam Broadway Primary Headteacher Sugra Alibhai Head of Sixth Form Designated Child Protection Officers Patrick Ball (Online safety) Amreen Patel Pardeep Chaggar Jag Singh Gareth Marshall-Jones David Wilson Mariam Mayet You can find the INA Safeguarding policy, Child Protection policy and other related policies and procedures on the Academy’s website. To report any Safegurading issues please contact safeguarding@isaacnewtonacademy.org

Dear Parents and Carers, I hope that you had a good half term break. There is some advice in our newsletter this week for any families who have returned to the UK from specific areas affected by COVID-19. Year 11 students were issued with their mock results on Monday this week. Please take some time to review the results and predictions with your child. Students have received feedback on their exams and the skills and knowledge they need to focus their attention on in each subject area to maximise their results. If you have any specific questions about your child’s results, please contact Ms Skyers or your child’s subject teachers. Year 11 GCSE PE students have had their PE practical exams this week. Mr Beattie and the PE team have been very impressed with the students’ level of focus and how seriously they have approached the exams. The GCSE drama practical exam is also just around the corner, with dress rehearsals next Thursday and students are working very hard in preparation for it. Thursday 5th March is an IL Day for secondary students. Students will be provided with learning for the subjects they have on that day (so they should have at least 6 hours’ worth of learning). This is a great opportunity for students to revise for the spring 2 assessments. We hope that Year11 students will spend some concentrated time revising and practising in preparation for their GCSE exams which are now only nine school weeks away! Finally, a reminder that next week is Family Week. As is usual during Family Weeks, all enrichments, interventions and staff meetings are suspended so that staff can get home at a reasonable time in the evening to spend quality time with their families and friends. We hope that you are also able to take advantage of this. With all best wishes,

What is Det

Having an unshakab goal.

Homero Gómez Every year, around 200 million butterflies migrate 2,800 miles from Canada to Mexico. This is the longest migration of any insect. Many of the butterflies fly to the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve in Michoacán. It creates a natural wonder as clouds of butterflies land on the trees and turn the entire forest a vibrant orange. Unfortunately, the forest (and the butterflies) are at risk from illegal deforestation and global warming. Homero Gómez dedicated his life to protecting the forest for the butterflies. He educated as many people as possible through conducting tours and sharing social media posts. Gómez had a firm belief he would reach his goal, but also knew it would take a long time and a great deal of hardwork from all involved. Gómez and a team of activists stand up for justice for nature, and this fight will continue as a result of their determination.

INA Attendance and Punctuality Regular attendance is a crucial factor in students’ educational development and success in achieving their full potential. Missing out on education and learning leaves students vulnerable to falling behind, putting them under unnecessary pressure. At Isaac Newton Academy every student is expected to maintain 100% attendance.

Punctuality

All students need to be present on site and ready for line up no later than 8.25am each day and as such we advise students to be through the school gates (side entrance and southern entrance) no later than 8.23am.

Reporting of child’s absence

In line with INA attendance policy it is the parent/ carer's responsibility to phone the school by 8.15am on each day of an absence. If you fail to contact the school to inform us of your child’s absence we may take the necessary steps to ensure your child is safe. Please take the time to familiarise yourself with the INA Attendance policy.
