What is Activote Activote is a voting response system which allows your learner to interact with a quiz you have made. The quiz can be multiple choices, true/false or yes/no type answers. The response pads allow your learners to vote anonymously * and allow everyone to take part in the quiz. At the end of each question you can see the results in various views and at the end of the quiz you can see the overall results if you wish. *the results are only anonymous if you wish them to be you can take note of which learner has which response pad.
What is ActivStudio ActivStudio is a user-friendly tool to help teachers create excellent Activboard lessons. You can install ActivStudio on the computer you use for preparing lessons as well as the computer you use in the class.
Launching ActivStudio When you have logged on, you will see the ActivStudio icon on your desktop. Double click on the ActivStudio icon with the Activpen.

If you cannot see the Icon on your desktop, press the start button on the tool bar, go to Programs and then find ActivSoftware, then select Activstudio3 then ActivStudio Professional Edition V3.

When you launch ActivStudio you will see the dashboard appear on your screen.

Creating Flipcharts Click on OK on any messages which show up before the dashboard appears. The dashboard will allow you to open any flipcharts you recently saved or you can choose to open a New Flipchart.
Making the flipcharts valid for Activote When you’ve made your flipchart ensure that you have clearly stated which answer is belongs to which letter, e.g. abcdef. When writing in the answers and question please ensure you click elsewhere on the page to make each piece of text separate entities, don’t press the ENTER key to add the next answer, as the Activote will not read these as separate answers.
When you’ve done that right click on the flipchart page and select the Activote.
Select Question Settings and you will see a menu like below.

You will need to go through that process on every question within your flipchart.
Using Activote in the classroom To use Activote in the classroom you will need to ensure you have a working Interactive Whiteboard and peripherals. To get hold of the response pads you will need to contact the E-Learning Team.
Adding the devices to the hub To use activote you will need to first place the Hub into the USB port in the PC. Then open your flipchart which you are using for the assessment. When registering your hubs be sure to do it in order according to the number on the bottom of the response pad.

You will see a screen like this when you’ve click register. You will need to select the register button again to add devices.

You will see when the devices have been successfully registered.
Assigning learners to the devices You can choose to allow your learners to participate anonymously* or you can choose to add their names to the devices to see who answered what.
*If you choose anonymous mode you could still take note of which learner has which response pad to evaluate your learner’s results afterwards. Click in the Cell to change the names of the devices.

Using the Activote response pads Using the response pads couldn’t be simpler. Give your learners their response pad and open the flipchart. For every question you will need to click the activote pad on and off using the ActivStudio tool bar. At the end of each question the results will be displayed.
When your learners have voted their response pad will turn yellow on the board. If a response pad is black the learner will need to vote again as they have pressed a wrong key.
Viewing/Saving/Printing Results The results will automatically be displayed at the end of each question. The Right answer will show green in the results and the wrong answers are red. You can choose which way you view the answers, the Overall Scores options will show you how a learner did throughout the quiz. You may choose to see ‘who answered what’ to see if there is a particular question area that your learners are struggling with. To print your results you will need to click the Paste button and paste them into another document – for example Word or a new flipchart. This can then be printed out for you to evaluate.

Troubleshooting I can’t see the Activote Icon on my toolbar. To add Icons to your toolbar follow the instructions below: Click on the main menu icon on the toolbar and select the Customise option, then select Toolstore.
When you’ve selected Toolstore a menu will show up with all the tools available. You need to select the Activote icon and drag it across to your toolbar. When you’ve added all the icons you need then select Finish.
I can’t see the Activote option when I right-click on my flipchart. Are you in design mode? Yes. You will need to turn off design mode to see the Activote option. Can you see the Activote icon on your toolbar? No. Then you need to add the activote icon to your toolbar. See instructions above to add this. Tried both of above and they don’t work? Then restart the ActivStudio software, if there is still a problem call the E-Learning Team. Activote

I’ve set the wrong answer, as the right answer. You can go back to your flipchart and follow the instructions about Activote Question Settings to change the answers. Otherwise you can click on the letters on the results graph to change the correct answer. My questions and answers are all jumbled up in the Question Settings menu. Next to each question/answer in the Question Settings menu is a drop down arrow. Click this and you will see the answers, click the correct one to allocate it. If all your answers appear on the same line, then you haven’t created each answer separately as previously mentioned and you will need to create the flipchart page again. It’s not accepting the registered devices. You will need to go through the registering devices again – first you will need to completely close down ActivStudio – all elements. Then remove any registered devices and go through the process of registering new devices again.
