IVCF Graduate and Faculty Ministry

O

ne of the goals of IVCF Ministry in the CEV Region over the next five years is to start, develop and expand the IVCF Graduate and Faculty Ministry (IVCF GFM). We feel that after 63 years of doing ministry in the Philippines IVCF should engage the whole university for Christ. Meaning, IVCF should engage not only the undergraduates, but also the faculty & staff, the graduate students who are taking masters degree or doctoral degree in our different colleges and universities. We are hoping that by June 2017 we can launch the IVCF Graduate & Faculty Ministry in the CEV Region. This year is a time of research & preparation in the following areas: 1) Identifying the different Christian Faculty who are teaching , doing research & extension work in the community and other sectors in our society; 2) Identifying some Christian students who are taking masters degree or doctoral degree ; 3) Gathering Materials and other resources; 4) Curriculum Design and Development ; 5) Recruiting & Training Core Group Leaders and 6) Networking with IVCF USA & other IFES Members who are more advance in doing ministry among the Graduates and Faculty in their respective countries. Below are the Mission and Vision Statement which we adopted from IVCF USA: The Mission Statement To encourage & equip Christian scholars to flourish and be a redeeming influence among the people, ideas and structures of higher education The Vision Statement -To establish witnessing communities of Christian academics that reflects the diversity of Christ -To follow God’s call in spiritual formation and vocational discipleship -To live faithfully in all areas of their lives and thereby flourish in their callings as teachers, scholars colleagues and mentors for the renewal of the campus and the glory of God -To practice their disciplines from profoundly Christian viewpoint.

EAST ASIA GRADUATES CONFERENCE (EAGC) TESTIMONIES I have had many learning experiences when I attended EAGC last August in Thailand. But among the sessions that I attended in, the Workshops and the Movement Sharing have had the greatest impact in me. One of the workshops has reminded me of the importance of regularly doing the basic spiritual disciplines as this will help in knowing God’s will my life especially when on the crossroads in making career decisions. The other workshop has broaden my perspective on being a global Christian. This workshop has made me realize how globalization has impacted different aspects of our lives, its pros and cons, and the challenges that it posts for Christians today. Those two workshops have really inspired me just like the GCF’s stories that were shared during the Movement Sharing. (GCF stands for Graduates Christian Fellowship. In the Philippines we call it Inter Varsity Graduates or IVG.) During the Movement Sharing, GCF’s from some Asian countries presented their activities, shared how they deepen their faith in their fellowship, and shared how they make an impact in their respective work places. Their stories have inspired me so much that I pray that one day, IV graduates in Cebu will also have the same strong graduate’s fellowship that will make an impact in our city and in our respected work places. CENTRAL AND EASTERN VISAYAS Praise and Prayer

(cont’d.) Praise God for the wondrous privilege to be part of East Asia Graduates' Conference (EAGC) 2016 last August 5-9 at Thailand. It's my first time to travel abroad. The huge and magnificent Suvarnabhumi Airport at Thailand amazed me, especially as I see myriad foreigners. The European visitors are so tall and big, I felt like being surrounded by giants. When I returned home to the Philippines, I was somewhat adjusting to the similar height, round eyes, not-so-long-nose and brown-skinned people around me. My weeklong stay at Thailand (with many foreign races in the streets) opened my eyes to what I usually witness in Cebu City. I'm reminded of how big God is who created the different nations. Indeed, I must stay away from pride because I am so small compared to my great and powerful God. My Small Group (SG) at EAGC consists of nationals from Japan, South Korea, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Hongkong, and me from the Philippines. My SGmate from Hongkong shared that he had a great hatred toward China. On our Cultural Night, we sang the hymn "How Great Thou Art" in different languages. When it was sang in Mandarin, my Hongkong Small Group mate said that he felt good worshipping God with the Chinese. That night, he offered again to God his hatred towards China, and received His healing power. His token for us, his Small Group mates, is even a Gospel tract in Chinese handwriting! A speaker from Japan said that a South Korean approached him and asked for forgiveness because he had great hatred towards Japan. In EAGC, God united the different East Asian countries from conflicts and wars brought from history past. He made us one in worship to His amazing grace, forgiveness and bond of love through Jesus Christ. I learned that God heals nations from fights and hatred. He is also able to heal the grudges and unforgiveness in my heart. In God there is healing. He gives unity to the nations in worshipping Him, and I stand in awe of His saving power. Praise and glory, wisdom and thanks, honor and power and strength to Him alone! By His mercy, grace and love,

Faith Harmony Macabenta CEVRU Field Staff

1.Praise God for our GT’s and counselors who served tirelessly. We desire to have an organized graduate team in the four major islands (Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental and Leyte) in the region. Pray for wisdom and strength as we invite, campaign and mobilize our graduates to serve as GT’s. 2.Praise God for the BIG (Bohol InterVarsity Graduates) led by Celgen Aurestila. We thank God for their commitment to support the ministry in Bohol, in the region and the staff salary. Praise God for their untiring monthly and quarterly BIG fellowships. Please pray for strength and good health for their senior citizen members. Pray too, that they would be able to contact and connect the IV grads in their area, raise more donors and a new staff. Also, pray that the other islands would follow BIG’s example and that they will see the importance of having fellowship and uniting the graduates in their areas. 3.Praise God for our RAC members- Dionne Ang-Chairman (Cebu), Marlon Villaluz- Vice Chair (Negros Oriental), Angela Villagonza- Secretary (Student representative), Ed BalaliTreasurer (Cebu), Leah Millendes(Bohol) and Megs Garado (Leyte) members. Praise God for their commitment to serve God through the ministry of IVCF. Pray for wisdom as they help us execute the regional plans and help us in raising funds for the region. 4. Praise God for His provision and faithfulness in the region. Help us pray for our current donors- their health, their businesses, and that they will be diligent in their work and become a blessing. And pray for wisdom as we rally for more donors in the region. 5. Praise God for His provision for DLTC 2016 camp subsidy. Pray for wisdom, strength and provision as they continue to raise the remaining amount ( P 54,000.00) for the said camp subsidy. Pray too, for our DLTC 2016 camp staff and counselors that they would all the more be dependent on God and seek Him as they continue to prepare. 6. Pray for our students in the region as they continue to raise money for their respective DLTC delegates. Thank you for joining with us in prayer . May the Lord God bless you even more!
