The Indian economy relies heavily on the infrastructure industry. The sector is critical to India's overall growth, and the government has placed a high priority on enacting regulations that would assure the country's building of world-class infrastructure in a timely manner. Power, bridges, dams, highways, and urban infrastructure development are all part of the infrastructure industry. Between April 2000 and June 2021, FDIs in the construction development sector (townships, housing, built up infrastructure, and construction development projects) and construction (infrastructure) activities totaled US$ 26.14 billion and US$ 25.38 billion, respectively, according to the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). Infrastructure activities received 13 percent of the overall FDI inflows of US$ 81.72 billion in FY21. The PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, which includes implementation, monitoring, and support mechanisms, was approved by the Indian Union Cabinet in October 2021. The government plans to develop a geospatial digital platform as part of the GatiShakti National Master Plan to help plan and monitor projects ranging from telecom networks to gas pipelines to roads and railroads. Government measures such as the National Infrastructure Pipeline, National Monetisation Pipeline, Bharatmala Pariyojana, modifications to the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM), and a rapid pace of asset monetization are expected to promote road building in FY22. In this issue of Construction Mirror, our team has compiled some industry related articles which includes Backhoe Loader, Lubricants, Cement, Concrete Batching Plant etc. Apart from all this our editors have arranged interview of some industry leaders much more vital information of the construction world classifies under different heads.

CONNECTING THE INDIAN BORDER
10
A Class A1 Border Road Organisation contractor overcame supply shortage in Government Road Project The project involving MB Crusher jaw crushers was about the construction of more than 100 kms of road through Border Road Organisation, a government organization under Indian Defence, spanned across different Indian Border area. Specifically, the customer was awarded a portion of this road construction project in the Northern mountainous region of India, which was approximately 35 kms in length at the altitude of 16,700 feet above sea level. Considering the high altitude of the project site, installing a static crusher was very difficult in the area. Additionally, due to non-availability of electricity, they had to rely on Diesel Generator Set (DG set) to run their static crusher at site to meet their requirements. Furthermore, the site being in such a high altitude, the oxygen level is very low which results in a DG not operating at its full operational capacity. They had also deputed manual labours at their project site to segregate small pieces of stones, but this solution was yielding them very low output productivity. Considering the geological condition in the region, the project site is covered with severe snow for the major part of the year. They were preparing GSB material (30mm – 60mm down) for their project to prepare roads and helipads in the region. While looking for an alternative solution, they came across MB Crusher Bucket BF90.3 S4 and had deployed the same on a trial basis at one of their project site in the recent past.
CONSTRUCTION MIR ROR
|| December 2021 ||
Despite the project location being in a very remote area, customer found MB Bucket crusher as more productive machine, which not only saves time, saves huge transportation cost, is easy to mobilize with lower operational and maintenance cost but also helps them to reduce manual labour cost and availability issues. After seeing the performance of the existing machine, customer within a span of three months bought other three MB Bucket Crushers for his various ongoing projects. Till today, they owns 4 units of MB Crusher’s BF90.3S4 bucket crusher deployed at various project sites. This only happened as Customer found MB Bucket Crusher as most efficient, highly productive and most cost effective. CM

Data Helps Accelerate Innovation on Path to Net Zero, Industry Leaders Say at AVEVA Sustainability Panel
Press Release
Lisa Johnston, Chief Sustainability Officer at AVEVA
Olivier Blum, Chief Strategy & Sustainability Officer at Schneider Electric
Lucas Joppa, Chief Environment Officer at Microsoft
Sustainability and Environment Leaders from Microsoft, Neste, Ørsted, Schneider Electric, and AVEVA Offer Actionable Takeaways to Realize Climate-Positive Targets
Jesper Skov Gretlund, Senior Manager, Numerical Competence Centre, Ørsted
Salla Ahonen, Vice-President of Sustainability, Neste
AVEVA, a global leader in industrial software, driving digital transformation and sustainability, joined companies across the technology and energy spectrum to underscore the multifaceted role of digitalization in helping to achieve net-zero carbon emissions across the ecosystem. Delegates at the recent landmark conference, AVEVA PI World, heard how data-led innovation can help unlock sustainability benefits at every level. The unanimous message was delivered by sustainability and environment leaders from Schneider Electric, Ørsted, Neste, Microsoft and AVEVA on a Sustainability Panel. Nine in 10 companies expect to accelerate their sustainability activities over the coming year as businesses recognize their role in tackling climate change, an AVEVA-commissioned survey of over 850 c-suite and digital transformation experts shows. Four in five leading industries want to increase their digital investments to drive sustainable business models, demonstrating the enormous potential of advanced technologies such as smart data, artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing in enabling net zero and lower carbon industrial operations, explained Lisa Johnston, Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Sustainability Officer at AVEVA.
“Companies around the world have committed to reducing their environmental footprint. AVEVA believes the business community must now go further, by way of positive contributions to sustainability through our activities and partnerships – or in other words, our sustainability handprint. Given the nature of the capabilities AVEVA provides to our customers, our solutions make a constructive impact on environmental sustainability. Data infrastructure management solutions such as the AVEVA PI System, delivered in partnership with Microsoft’s Azure Cloud, can help thousands of very different businesses find innovative routes to achieving their sustainability goals and becoming climate positive,” Johnston added.
Digitalization strategies to achieve net-zero commitments
Data-led innovation plays a significant part in achieving net-zero goals, panelists said. Panel attendees learned actionable strategies towards building climate-positive organizations. 1. Incorporate sustainability into your KPIs: Olivier Blum, Chief Strategy & Sustainability Officer at Schneider Electric, ranked the world’s most sustainable company, said companies should develop sustainability strategies in the same way they have strategies for other areas, such as finance or human resources. Potential CO2 emissions should be factored into the design of new assets, for example, to improve sustainability and accelerate the climate transition, he said. Mapping sustainability KPIs 22

can help others transform,” she said. Data can offer positive routes to improving a company’s handprint, she added. In the process, the whole ecosystem can realize its net-zero goals. 4. Measure everything for sustainability at scale: Thousands of companies are setting net-zero targets, but achieving them requires better measurement tools, said Lucas Joppa, Chief Environment Officer at Microsoft. The software leader has committed to becoming a carbon-negative company by 2030. “You can’t manage what you can’t measure,” he said. Since carbon is the building block of life, measuring it requires monitoring every aspect of the business. “Digital technology is that tool in the [corporate] toolbox that lets us go at the kind of scale that sustainability requires, and at the scope that sustainability requires,” Joppa said. The panel concluded that industries are no longer forced to compromise competitiveness in the short term to pursue a more sustainable future. The thought leadership forum for AVEVA’s partner executives was open to all registered delegates at AVEVA PI World. The event is part of a series of AVEVA initiatives to support an inclusive, net-zero economy in line with a 1.5°C pathway as the world works to hold off the worst impacts of the climate crisis. CM

to the rest of the business can deliver the critical results required. “Sustainability is like any area of business,” Blum said. “You should have a sustainability strategy. It should be fully integrated with your business strategy.” 2. Use data to predict innovation: The application of predictive analytics to industrial data collected across the value chain can reveal new routes to innovation. Energy major Ørsted operates an extensive fleet of 1,000 offshore wind turbines. ELGi’s perspective on the changing economy and buying behavior of people induced by pandemic and how it will impact the manufacturing ecosystem in the coming years When the pandemic challenged organisations worldwide to serve their customers, communities and employees better, ElGi Equipments Ltd, learned, stayed resilient and expanded its business. ELGi has an ambitious aspiration to become the top three in the global air compressor business. To achieve this, ELGi recognized the need to adopt a management philosophy that builds vertical excellence in each operating function and customer-centric horizontal excellence across the business, operations, and support functions. With solid systems and processes built into every touchpoint across the organisation, ELGi, with a net worth of 540 CR, posted 57cr standalone profit in Q2 for FY 2021-22 and a surge in their business performances. Sales of the company’s automotive business bounced back to pre-COVID stage and increased by 45%. Strategic investments in the Global market helped the company in FY-21-22 as the bulk of its growth came from North America, Europe, and Australia. ELGi provides products and services that are safe and contribute to sustainability throughout their life cycle, supporting its customer's sustainability goals. “Over the last almost two years, the world experienced chaotic economic manifestations.
|| www.constructionmirror.com ||
At the start of the pandemic, the world thought there would be a pause in economic activities resulting in massive disruptions to profits, earnings, and wealth. Contrary to this, after a very short disruption, the whole world surged ahead. The additional income in the hands of people from not spending on restaurants, hotels, and travel resulted in higher consumption of all forms of physical goods, with the work from home propelling the need for such goods. Besides, the relief and subsidies provided by governments worldwide spurred this spending even further. So much so that the world ended up with shortages, resulting in an unprecedented increase in the prices of almost all products and services. With the world coming back to normalcy, people are beginning to spend on the services they had previously stopped. Besides, people have exhausted the additional consumption of physical goods. Both of these and the impact of inflation of personal income will cause the manufacturing economy to correct itself. With this, there would be a trickle-down effect of capacity build-up also slowing down. It would be wise to brace for this leveling of activity and focus inward on productivity and cost optimization”, said Dr. Jairam Varadaraj, Managing Director, ELGi Equipments Limited. Difference Between Excavators and Backhoe Loaders
Excavators The majority of excavators weigh between 3,500 and 200,000 pounds, while the largest weighs 889 tonnes and has 4,400 horsepower. Because the cab is attached to the boom, operators can rotate the cab 360 degrees if necessary to complete digging tasks. Caterpillar, Benati, John Deere, and Komatsu Limited are some of the most well-known manufacturers. Applications for Excavators: Excavators are used in a variety of industrial and commercial settings. Dredge rivers, clear places for forest fire management, cut brush (with the correct attachments), destroy buildings, grade soil for landscapers, dig holes and trenches, assist with mining and heavy lifting, and even drive piles are all things they can do. Excavators are used in a variety of industrial and commercial settings. The main distinction between a backhoe and an excavator is that an excavator has its own chassis below it, whilst a backhoe is attached to a different vehicle. Tilt rotators, grapples, augers, and breakers are common hydraulic attachments that allow backhoes to perform everything from dig deeper holes to transport heavy tools.

performs, which is to bring earth back toward the truck. The main distinction between a backhoe and an excavator is that an excavator has its own chassis below it, whilst a backhoe is attached to a different vehicle. Backhoes are offered in two types: farming versions and industrial models. Because they do not have to carry the same load as industrial ones, farming machines tend to be lighter. Applications for Backhoes: Backhoes can also be used to dig various types of holes or trenches. Tilt rotators, grapples, augers, and breakers are common hydraulic attachments that allow backhoes to perform everything from dig deeper holes to transport heavy tools. Outside of farming, however, excavators and its smaller variant, the mini-excavator, are rendering the backhoe obsolete. Backhoes and excavators both have the same broad goal of digging, but their designs differ to suit their unique purposes.
Due to its vast range of applications in numerous tasks, a backhoe loader is considered to be the first equipment to arrive on a project site and the last to leave. In India, backhoe loaders are still very popular. Backhoe loaders are popular because of their versatility, mobility, low ownership and running expenses, ease of financing, high resale prices, and widespread after-sales assistance. With their design and other advantages, backhoe loaders are great tools for infrastructure construction tasks. These machines are multipurpose due to their high versatility, and they can easily go on the road. If statistics are to be believed, India is by far the world's largest BHL market, accounting for about half of all construction equipment sales in terms of unit sales. Size and Power: Depending on customer demand, several sizes of backhoe loaders are available on the market. The backhoe loader has a 60-horsepower engine that may be upgraded to a 100-horsepower engine. The higher the horse power, the higher the machine's and fuel's average costs. So be specific about your requirements for a backhoe loader. The 76HP backhoe loader is the most popular product of any manufacturer or brand in India. As a result, we'll grade the backhoe loader based on its 76 horsepower. Controls and features: One of the criteria used to choose the finest backhoe loader is its features. Many manufacturers update their backhoes on a regular basis over a period of time. So, while all manufacturers strive to deliver the best features to their customers, do they actually make use of them? equipment tracking system, power and normal mode, and fuel management are just a few of the features that manufacturers are offering for free or at a reduced cost to their clients. It gives you a better return on your investment, either directly or indirectly. Different Attachment Options: Backhoe loaders are incredibly adaptable devices in and of themselves. Backhoe loaders are favoured by industry professionals all over the world. Being a fan favourite, however, does not prevent the gadget from being outmoded or obsolete. We live in a time where machines are expected to execute various tasks on their own. The tendency of the changing times is multifunctional machines. While the backhoe loader is adaptable, it must follow the trend in order to maintain its market share. Backhoe loader attachments are the solution to the multipurpose machine conundrum. A backhoe can be equipped with a variety of attachments, including an auger drill, a rock beaker, a pole erector, a pallet fork, and a multi-functional bucket. These accessories make the backhoe a versatile machine that may be utilised for a variety of tasks according on the needs. Product Quality and Maintenance: Backhoe loader quality and maintenance are also important things to consider when choosing the best backhoe loader. The basic backhoe is made using the best brand and high-quality spare parts. Other manufacturers' spare parts

must be purchased by the manufacturer. It is entirely dependent on the manufacturer's choice of high-quality components for the machine, such as the engine, gearbox, hydraulic pump, and axle. Spare parts and service Availability: Any backhoe loader owner or rental company must have access to service and spare parts. Backhoe's entire profit is dependent on the service he receives. We'll need to observe how much time a dealer service technician spends on your equipment. Backhoe Loader Resale Value: How long does it take to sell your backhoe? If your backhoe can be sold quickly and for the greatest price, these are important factors to consider when purchasing a new backhoe. Many times, a buyer purchases a backhoe that no one else wants. Finally, the customer must give under junk in order to receive money.
Philosophical shift
Manufacturers have had to adapt not only their machines but also their thinking as backhoes' market share has fallen in recent years due to the attack of compact equipment. Previously, it was thought that every contractor would have a backhoe, and almost all did. OEMs must now assess which segments of the market still utilise backhoes, as well as what features they seek. Backhoes can deliver crucial cost savings in || www.constructionmirror.com ||

with the ability to transport up to 12 tonnes of product every loading cycle. Caterpillar Inc. has introduced the new Cat 424B2 backhoe loader, which features efficient hydraulics, low maintenance, excellent performance, durability, and efficiency. The E-Power backhoe is a battery-powered, electric vehicle design created by John Deere. The concept aims to reduce daily running expenses, reduce job site noise, improve machine dependability, and produce zero emissions. The electric backhoe from John Deere is still in the early stages of development. A 480-volt, 90-kW lithium-ion battery pack (weighing 1,300 pounds) powers the Case 580 EV electric backhoe loader, which can be charged in eight hours using any 220-volt/threephase connection. Most eight-hour workdays can be supported by a single battery charge. The drivetrain and hydraulic motors are driven separately by the battery, resulting in hydraulic breakout forces comparable to diesel-powered machines and increased performance throughout loader and drivetrain operation. JCB India was the first company in India to introduce backhoe loaders about four decades ago. Because of its adaptability and mobility, the equipment is used on nearly every building job in India, both urban and rural. This multipurpose machine is generally used for digging, dozing, levelling, and general site applications at construction sites. With five different models – 2DX, 3DX, 3DX Xtra, 3DX Super, and 4DX – JCB India offers the biggest range of backhoe loaders in India. Prevent Wear & Tear of Your Equipment With Best Lubricants Lubricants are materials that are used to reduce friction and wear between surfaces that are in motion. Although this is the major role of lubricants, they can also be used as a heat transfer agent, a corrosion preventative, a sealing agent, and a means of trapping and expelling impurities in mechanical systems. While oils and greases are traditional liquid and semisolid lubricants, they also come in dry lubricants, gas lubricants (such as air), and other forms. When choosing lubricants for mechanical systems, it's important to examine not just how they'll reduce friction and wear, but also how they'll accomplish any or all of these additional roles. Lubricants aren't all created equal. A high-performance lubricant can have a major impact on operational success in heavy-duty industrial applications like those found on construction sites. Heavy-duty construction equipment, such as that used to create streets, highways, bridges, and buildings, is exposed to harsh

environmental conditions. Whether it's a cold, foggy morning or a hot, dry, dusty afternoon, the lubricant's performance will be affected. The following are some of the most common lubricant depletion sites in construction operations: •
•
Heat-sensitive greases can melt and run out of bearings, resulting i n b e a r i n g fa i l u re . Contaminants can enter through grease that does not make a good seal. Somegreases are very sticky and practically immune to water washout, and they can easily carry large loads. Some manufacturers also offers automatic lubrication systems that ensure the proper amount of grease is applied in the right place at the right time. Engine oil — If you're searching for extended oil life while still preserving your engine from the stresses of the job, LE's superior, long-lasting engine oils and LEAP oil analysis will help you safely lengthen oil drain intervals.

Water can get into the fuel of diesel equipment that is left outside, causing it to lose power. Soot builds up in injectors, making them unclean. Furthermore, due to environmental concerns, lower-performance diesel fuel is now used in on-road and off-road mobile equipment. Some manufacturers have developed diesel fuel improvers to address these issues. They can clean your fuel pumps, injectors, and combustion chambers, restoring fuel economy, lowering pollutants, and lowering your overall cost per mile or hours of operation.
Lubricants
Synthetic Oils
48
Synthetic lubricants were developed and used for applications where petroleum-based lubricants were insufficient (e.g., at extreme high and low temperatures, under extreme wear conditions) or where special characteristics, such as long life, improved equipment efficiency, or non-flammability, were required. Synthetic lubricants, on the other hand, aren't just for specific applications; they're also useful when they can save money in areas like machine reliability, oil life, energy consumption, biodegradability, and safety. Among the many successful applications where synthetic fluids outperform conventional lubricants are: high-temperature lubricants for plastic calenders (significantly longer oil-change intervals, fewer machine shutdowns); worm gear drives in harsh service conditions (increased efficiency, lower operating temperatures); air compressors (elimination of combustible petroleum residues); hydraulic fluid in fire-resistant applications (reduced friction losses). The advantages of synthetic lubricant base stocks come not only from their basic molecular structures, but also from the lack of potentially dangerous molecular species that are inevitably present in conventional mineral oils in minute but significant amounts. While many, if not all, of the hazardous chemicals in crude oil are eliminated or improved during refining, depending on the methods used, a significant number of them will invariably remain in lubricating oil stocks, whether solvent- or hydrotreated. As a result, standard oils contain a diverse range of molecular species, many of which are poorly understood. Synthetic goods, on the other hand, are typically created through

chemical reactions involving very pure, small molecules in which pressure, temperature, and the ratio of reactants can all be precisely regulated. The synthesis of the reaction up to the desired end product frequently involves several phases, each of which necessitates the separation of the intermediate products.
Lubricant specifications
Industry lubricant specifications were developed to define the quality level of products that will provide good lubrication when used as recommended and deliver a level of performance on which marketers, OEMs and consumers can rely. Chemical constraints and signatures: Many of today’s engine oil specifications include constraints to limit the use of some chemicals in order to protect parts of the engine and to comply with legal obligations. For example, the ash generated when metals such as calcium, magnesium and sodium are burnt in the engine can plug and damage the vehicle after treatment system, jeopardising the environmental protection they are designed to deliver. In the same vein, phosphorus is known to poison the catalysts used to reduce unburned hydrocarbons. These elements also have strong features including acid neutralisation for calcium and magnesium, antiwear for phosphorus containing components and antioxidant capabilities of the sulphur containing components. Innovation and lubricant formulation: Innovations introduced by vehicle manufacturers often create new performance requirements for motor oils, sometimes vital to the engine.
|| www.constructionmirror.com ||
Things to Know While Choosing a Lubricant
Lubricant Selection: There is a great deal of interest regarding the role lubricants play in reducing upfront costs. Lubricants have the potential to improve fuel economy and enhance engine performance and protection. This is achieved through minimizing metal-to-metal contact between moving components, while
|| www.constructionmirror.com ||
also reducing pumping and spinning losses. Due to the oil’s lower viscosity, it requires less work to move through the engine, and therefore flows faster. Newer engine types, which run at higher temperatures, can also stress conventional lubricants and accelerate the rate at which the oil oxidizes and derogates. Of particular relevance to those in the construction industry are API CK-4 oils, which are designed to be more robust and resistant to oxidation, as well as have improved resistance to aeration and increased shear stability. Improved aeration control is important for off-road engines where more air than usual could become entrained in the engine oil. A high level of air entrainment is dangerous, particularly at the bearings, where maintaining a suitable oil film is critical for protection.Together, these design improvements provide enhanced performance and greater hardware protection, and may reduce vehicle downtime—a major source of missed opportunity in construction operations. API CK-4 licensed oils are backwards compatible, allowing for their use in the vast majority of older diesel engine vehicles that ran previous oil categories (API CJ-4, CI-4 Plus, CI-4 and more). In addition, users can benefit from the increased robustness of CK-4 oils over the previous CJ-4 oils, enabling increased performance and protection gains. The Role of Oil Analysis Testing: There are numerous benefits to implementing an effective used oil analysis program in a company’s fleet management practice. A good program is part of a sound maintenance regime and is a cost-effective process that can monitor oil condition in heavy industrial equipment. Oil analysis typically involves three steps: taking a representative sample from the equipment, sending the sample to a qualified used oil analysis lab, and interpreting and acting on the results. Oil analysis is most effective when performed at regular intervals, so that a trend can be generated and used to improve performance and efficiency of equipment. Testing can detect impurities and measure their concentration, showing operators how and why machinery is experiencing wear, and helping to identify the source(s) of contamination. By evaluating the condition of lubricant and equipment on a || December 2021 ||

As an example, downsized car engines have been developed to cut fuel consumption and hence reduce CO2 emissions. These engines are often turbocharged, smaller displacement designs for the same or higher amount of power than the engines they replace. With high compression ratios and optimised fuelling, sections of the engine’s speed load /map could lead to a phenomenon called low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI), which can result in dramatic engine damage. New lubricant features were required to help prevent LSPI, and LSPI tests are being incorporated into the latest engine oil specifications. Another recent evolution is the use of low viscosity oils, such as SAE 0W-16 in passenger cars and SAE 5W-30 in heavy-duty vehicles. The aim here is to minimize friction losses in the engine and hence reduce fuel consumption. At the same time we are also seeing the use of new materials and coatings that sometimes have dramatic incompatibilities with certain additive components. These continuous innovations mean that using oils that have been approved by the vehicle manufacturer is increasingly crucial, and is a requirement to benefit from the manufacturers warranties.
CONSTRUCTION MIR ROR
49
routine basis, minor mechanical problems are discovered before they become serious and expensive to fix. To extend drain intervals, and improve efficiency and fuel consumption, it is highly recommended to implement a used oil analysis program. Low/High Temperature Operations: Another thing worth considering is selecting an oil that can handle tough climates and extreme temperatures. Depending on the location, the equipment used in construction operations may be exposed to varying challenges posed by high and low temperatures. In such difficult conditions, the viscosity in the lubricant can become a cause for concern. If the temperature reaches the critical zone, depending on the chemical composition, the lubricant can start to stiffen or become overly viscous. This results in machinery hardware being improperly lubricated and under strenuous conditions, over time, equipment may experience catastrophic failure. To prevent this, construction operations can use a lower viscosity oil, which can stay viscous and maintain flow under a wide range of temperatures. Multi-grade, low viscosity oils perform better over a range of temperatures— it’s not too thick in cold climates or too thin in heat—ensuring proper and adequate flow of oil to protect key critical engine components. In addition, the entire vehicle powertrain and hydraulic system can experience improved operating efficiency by uing the lowest viscosity grades allowed by the Original Equipment Manufacturer's (OEM) ambient temperature requirements. Construction equipment has come a long way - and so have the lubricants that keep it running smoothly. As technology for machinery has advanced, the industry has demanded that lubrication and other fluids keep up with changing transmissions and increased load requirements. Keep these three things in mind when sorting through what your equipment needs. Stress is a (huge) factor: Construction rigs have many different lubrication needs, and whether they are pushing dirt or pulling loads, they all (unsurprisingly) are put under a lot of stress. This is why most construction lubricants are 50
CONSTRUCTION MIR ROR
|| December 2021 ||
formulated to be pretty tough. The following lubricants, however, should receive special attention: •
•
Hydraulic fluid: Hydraulics need fluids that can withstand lifting and hoisting - along with the wear and tear these activities bring. Hydraulics are often exposed to a variety of outdoor elements, so finding a product that can handle any and all of those conditions is important. Power transmission fluid: Transmissions can take a beating in off-road construction equipment.
Watch out for getting washed out: Construction equipment doesn't get to retreat to a garage or shed at the end of a long day. It tends to sit outside, day in and day out, until the job is completely done. It's important to use a product that can withstand both rain and sunshine - and everything in between. Grease, in particular, is susceptible to washout since it's oftentimes most exposed. Seasons matter: Finally, don't forget about changing seasons. Though construction may pick up in the summer, many projects go year-round until they're complete. Choosing products that are multi-viscosity or have a viscosity that matches the temperature outside is important to ensure your machinery performs at its best. As a general rule of thumb, low- or multi-grade-viscosity products should be used during cool temperatures, and higher- or multigrade-viscosity products should be used during warmer months.
What Makes Up the Lubricants We Use?
A base oil is the starting point for all lubricants. Mineral, synthetic, and vegetable are the three sorts. We frequently deal with mineral and synthetic materials in industrial settings, so I'd prefer to concentrate on these. Mineral oil is made from crude oil, and its quality is determined by how it is refined. Oil is graded on a scale, and different procedures necessitate varying oil quality. Mineral oil is primarily composed of four types of molecules: paraffin, branching paraffin, naphthene, and aromatic. Paraffinic oil has a long, straight chained structure, whereas branched paraffinic oils have the same structure but with a branch off to the side. || www.constructionmirror.com ||

Industry Feature

Synthetic oils, like branched paraffinic oils, are man-made fluids with comparable straight chained structures. One of the advantages of a synthetic is that the molecular size and weight remain consistent, whereas mineral oils fluctuate dramatically, resulting in fairly predictable features. The lesser the density of the oil, the slower it flows. Molasses, for example, has a high density and a low viscosity, whereas baby oil does not. The viscosity required for a given application is entirely dependent on its speed, operating temperature, bearing type, and component type, such as a gearbox versus a motor. By encapsulating particles and suspending them in the oil, dispersants help to protect components from abrasion by wear products, allowing them to be readily flushed and removed from the system. EP additives react with the surfaces of a component to generate a thin protective coating that prevents metalto-metal contact. In some cases, utilising grease rather than oil has advantages. Grease seals out adulterants, is better for insoluble solid additives like molybdenum disulphide and graphite, and has better stop-start performance because it doesn't void like oil, reducing the risk of a dry start. The broadness of grease, on the other hand, limits bearing speed, lowers component cooling, makes sampling and analysis difficult, and makes determining the right amount
CONSTRUCTION MIR ROR
|| December 2021 ||
of grease to add difficult. This is a critical factor to consider when selecting whether to use oil or grease for a given application. With a simple concept or knowledge of lubrication, you can see why employing the appropriate lubrication in your machinery has so many benefits. Every organisation wants to achieve more efficiency, longer life, improved reliability, and spend less money on maintenance.
How the Industrial Lubricants Market is Evolving? The industrial lubricants sector is altering its supply chains and marketing methods, notably in Asia. Greater internet penetration among the region's populace has resulted in a massive increase in online shopping usage, where lubricant marketers have discovered a viable retail platform. Lubricant marketers in Asia have recognised this opportunity and are connecting their supply chains to improve their operations. This helps them to optimise influence at the end-user level while reducing expenses at the supply chain's back end. From a product development standpoint, the sector is likewise changing. Sustainable ways to reduce carbon footprint and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are being emphasised more globally. However, at a more granular level, this has resulted in significant advances in green chemistry. The focus on bio-based product development has changed how corporations approach lubricant research and development. CM

rail enables the door completely sealed when the door closed.
Elements of automatic doors
These automatic sliding fitting systems are made up of various parts. • The activation device is a detector that detects an open command and sends it to the drive control/control unit. • Timer switches, opening speed, angle, and hold-open duration are commonly included in the control unit. • The door is opened using motor force via the door drive. The door is pulled open and then closed by the drive. • Sensor strips: Sensor strips track the route of the door leaves and the edges of the door as they close.
Main Types of Automatic Doors
Automatic Sliding Doors: Automatic sliding doors allow two-way traffic. When a sliding door is pushed out in an emergency, it has a mechanism that permits it to swing open. This feature, referred to as "breakout" or "breakaway," qualifies them for usage in environments that require emergency egress. Traditional biparting, single slide, and telescoping sliding doors are available in a variety of configurations. A certain quantity of slide area is required for these doors to move. Sensors or control mats, as well as safety warnings, should always be present on sliding doors.

Swinging Doors that are Automated: When a swinging door is automated, two doors are often employed. One door opens inside, while the other opens outward. This makes it possible to have two-way traffic. It is not advisable to have two-way traffic through a single motorised swinging door. The only exception is a low-energy swing operator, which differs from a fully automatic door in its characteristics. It is critical that these types of doors are clearly marked to indicate which way they should be opened. Different systems have their own set of criteria. The requirements vary depending on which sensors and control mats are utilised. For automatic swinging doors, there are two types of sensors: overhead mount and door mount. Each has its own set of properties, allowing for a variety of pattern sizes and performance. Guide rails, sensors or control mats, and safety signage should always be present on swinging doors.
Automatic Folding Doors: Installing a folding door takes up very little room while providing plenty of clear door space. When space is at a premium, this sort of door is the best option. If the door is being used as an egress point, it should have an emergency swing feature. Two or more independent panels are used in automatic folding doors. Both panels swing into a "V" shape, which is the fold, while the first panel swings and the second panel slides in a guide, allowing it to slide. Automatic folding doors can be a single door that swings in or out or a pair of doors that fold in or out at the

same time. Folding doors, like swinging doors, should always be equipped with guide rails, sensors or control mats, and safety signage.
Industrial Overhead Doors: Galvanized steel is used to make industrial overhead doors. Because they are often huge in size, they are best suited for large spaces. They can have springs or counterweights installed. Because these doors are frequently used, the second option is preferred because counterweights, in addition to being a sturdy and trustworthy mechanism, provide for a smooth and silent opening and shutting. A galvanised sheet metal box protects the counterweight and contributes to the door's attractiveness. Pedestrian doors can be used in conjunction with industrial overhead doors. Overhead doors have the advantage of requiring almost little maintenance, but they take up a lot of room due to their size.
Roll-Up Doors for Industry: These are high-speed, flexible doors. These flexible but rigid doors have a high opening speed and are very light. They're || www.constructionmirror.com ||
designed for crossing regions that are isolated from one another (sound or thermal insulation) and require a lot of opening and closing actions due to the number of crossings. They form a functional barrier between manufacturing and storage areas. Soft doors, on the other hand, do not prevent trespassing.

The increase in infrastructure developments in emerging countries is a major driver for the worldwide automatic doors industry. The need for automatic doors is growing in nations like China and India, where the government and private sector are working together to develop city infrastructure. For example, in smart cities, persistent efforts are being made to improve infrastructure, with an emphasis on non-toxic, recycled, and environmentally friendly materials. Two major elements that enable its demand are its ease of accessibility and safety. This market segment's growth is being driven by specialised applications in industrial settings and commercial buildings. The automatic door can be used in a variety of settings, including residential and business areas, hospitals, and more. The demand is fueled by considerations such as energy efficiency, ease of operation, security, speed and accuracy, and the lack of a cable. The automatic doors in the hospital allow wheelchair users to travel more easily, and they can also be utilised to safeguard a specific area in research labs and hospitals. Future opportunities are created by the government's considerable investment in construction and the rise of the residential sector. High maintenance, on the other hand, works as a market restraint. High disposable incomes are a major driver of the worldwide automatic door control market. Furthermore, altering people's lifestyles play a significant role in propelling the global automated door control market. Another element supporting the market's growth is the improvement and expansion of construction operations, as well as the adoption of automation in most developed nations. Furthermore, the global automatic door control market has grown as a result of increased construction of malls, high-tech airports, grand hotels, and multiplexes.

Heat loss is reduced due to the fast opening and shutting speeds, resulting in energy savings. These doors also help to limit sound dispersion and keep dust from surrounding work areas at bay. The automatic door system should be constructed such that traffic approaches the door in full view and users go directly toward the door, regardless of the type of door. Pedestrians must have excellent vision of the door and its markings, as well as the ability to see the door's travel direction. Vending machines, trash cans, pay phones, and anything else that could distract users should be placed at least four feet away from the moving door. The most essential consideration in deciding the sort of automatic door that will be placed is the nature of the application. Not all automated doors are appropriate for all applications. The desired traffic flow, common sorts of users, available space, and aesthetic requirements or preferences must all be considered.
The demand for automatic doors
Automated Doors Safety
Why do injuries happen despite all of the safety features on automated doors? Is there a problem with the design? Is there a lack of supervision? Is there a lack of upkeep? Cost? Many of these elements play a role in the development of injury. In most cases, poor design is not the primary cause of damage. After inspecting thousands of doors over the past 25 years and || December 2021 ||

performing both installation and maintenance on a wide range of door products, I have to say that the vast majority of the time, the incident is caused by the property owner failing to follow the manufacturer's recommended maintenance guidelines. When an automatic door installation is completed, the installer or manufacturer should give a formal field demonstration of the product. Management should ensure that their employees have received enough training in order to understand the duties associated with properly maintaining these door goods. The installation team will usually offer manuals with thorough instructions that explain the duties of the owner/user in ensuring the safe operation of the automatic door system. These instructions detail the required service intervals for the door system, as well as routine functionality and additional features. The majority of manufacturers highly advise maintaining a service contract with the installer for routine maintenance and adjustments. For the safe operation of some doors, something as simple as washing and cleaning the electronic eye lenses is required. Depending on the amount of dirt and trash in the region as well as the weather, this may need to be done on a regular basis. Other, more advanced diagnostics are not possible for end users and necessitate regular service from a technician. The basic maintenance of these door systems should, in most situations, be performed on a daily basis. Several rotating door manufacturers have told me that their goods should be inspected,

tested, and reviewed on a daily basis. These machines are intricate and should be handled with the same caution as a roller coaster ride at a theme park. They simply must be examined by trained experts on a daily basis.
Automatic Doors Market
According to a report published by Research&Markkets.com, the global automated door sensors market was worth US$ 1,257.23 million in 2019 and is predicted to expand to US$ 1,857.27 million by 2027, with a CAGR of 5.1 percent from 2020 to 2027. The study focuses on key market drivers and prominent market players, as well as their market developments. The COVID-19 epidemic has wreaked havoc on a number of sectors. The virus's rapid spread has prompted governments around the world to put stringent restrictions on vehicle and person movement. The epidemic has impacted economies and businesses in a number of countries as a result of travel bans, mass lockdowns, and business closures. The installation of the lockdown has resulted in a reduction in the production of commodities, goods, and services. Due to the temporary halt of activity, manufacturing, automotive, semiconductor and electronics, oil and gas, mining, aviation, and other industries have seen a drop in their operations. Because the manufacturing facilities were operating with a constrained workforce, the automated door sensors market participants also saw a reduction in volume. The market has suffered as a result of this. Additionally, during the first quarter of 2020, industries purchased fewer automatic door sensors due to the temporary closure. CM

Use of Water Pumps at Construction Sites; Different Types and Applications On construction sites, water pumps are typically utilised to drain surplus water that has accumulated due to heavy rain or a high water table. They typically serve two purposes: keeping water out of foundations, tunnels, and other excavation pits, and providing a source of water for jetting and sluicing, as well as pumping water for cofferdams. The complexity of the project, the amount and rate at which the liquid is evacuated, the type of liquid, the loss due to friction, the height of suction lift, and the pump's size all contribute into the selection of water pumps for construction sites. Water pumps are divided into two categories: centrifugal and positive displacement. Both are designed to continuously transport water from one location to another. A revolving impeller in a centrifugal water pump moves water into the pump and pressurises the discharge flow. There are various types of centrifugal water pumps, including standard, garbage, and submersible variants.
|| www.constructionmirror.com ||
Centrifugal water pumps can pump any liquid, even ones with low viscosity. These pumps have a high flow rate and operate well with thin liquids. Positive displacement water pumps use the mechanical contraction and expansion of a flexible diaphragm to deliver a fixed volume of flow. Positive displacement pumps are employed in a variety of industries that deal with high-viscosity liquids and potentially sensitive solids. They're best for applications that require a mix of low flow and high pressure. Centrifugal Water Pumps: Considerations In addition to dewatering, centrifugal pumps are employed in a variety of construction and water system applications. They're used to pump water in buildings, and they're compatible with pneumatic systems and don't require suction lift. They're also used to pump water from private wells and to increase the pressure in water supply lines. Centrifugal pumps can be used as sump pumps in both vertical and horizontal layouts, and they

can offer a constant pressure source for fire suppression systems. Centrifugal pumps are prone to a number of issues. To counteract overheating caused by low flows, some pumps may require recirculating liquid. To work properly, centrifugal pumps must be primed, or filled with the pumped fluid. When a system's positive suction head is too low for the pump used, cavitation, a condition in which air bubbles collect near the impeller and cause shockwaves inside the pump, can occur. Finally, suspended particulates in the liquid can exacerbate pump impeller wear. Centrifugal Pumps' Characteristics • Centrifugal pumps are used to pump water in places where pneumatic systems are compatible and suction lift is not required. • Pumping water from domestic wells is done with it. • Centrifugal pumps provide a constant supply of pressure for the fire suppression system. It may be used to increase the pressure in water intake pipes. • In either a vertical or horizontal design, these can be used as a sump pump. • To avoid problems caused by overheating, centrifugal pumps require recirculating

fluids. Low flows are the main cause of this. • Priming is required for the proper operation of a centrifugal pump. Positive Displacement Water Pumps: Considerations Positive displacement water pumps, also known as rotary pumps, are extremely effective because they remove air from the lines, eliminating the need to bleed the lines. These pumps are also capable of handling liquids with a high viscosity. Positive displacement pumps have one major disadvantage: they require very little room between the revolving pump and the unit's outside edge. As a result, the rotation has to take place at a relatively modest rate. The liquids can corrode the water pump's efficiency if it is run at greater speeds. (i) Reciprocating Pumps: The movement of the piston in a cylinder drives reciprocating pumps. Several cylinders are found in large reciprocating pumps. Water is drawn into the cylinder when the piston moves in one direction. The water is forced out when the piston advances to the back end. Reciprocating pumps are extremely efficient and dependable. They can pump the liquid at different heads while maintaining a consistent discharge. These are best used in low-flow situations. || www.constructionmirror.com ||
|| www.constructionmirror.com ||
w w w. c o n s t r u c t i o n m i r r o r. c o m
(ii) Diaphgram Pumps: Diaphragm pumps work by sucking water into the cylinder as the diaphragm rises and falls. Water is pulled into the cylinder when the diaphragm moves out. It is discharged to the delivery pipe as it goes down. Diaphragm pumps are capable of delivering liquids containing 10 to 15% particles and working with water with varied flow characteristics. Important Pump Selection Considerations Choosing the correct pump for a commercial or industrial application is critical to the system's long-term performance, but it can be a difficult decision. Each pump has a plethora of varied specs, and each application has a plethora of factors to consider. Keep these four factors in mind when looking for the ideal pump: Construction Materials: Choose your pump based on its ability to tolerate the chemicals in the fluid composition as well as the surrounding environment. Bronze, cast iron, and stainless steel are all common materials. Pumps that fulfil high regulatory criteria may be required for many applications. Fluid Properties: Different material treatments and pump architectures are required for corrosive fluids, process liquids containing particulates, and hot fluids. To ensure the selection of an appropriate model, carefully consider the qualities of the process fluid that may degrade or put stress
on the pump. Power Demands and Availability: Pumps with high horsepower that must carefully manage the pressure of the process fluid require access to appropriate and dependable power sources. For usage in mounting locations and transportable applications such as agricultural and construction sites, many pumps are available in electricity and gas-powered versions. It's also critical to choose the proper pump based on any voltage or current limits, in addition to the power supply. Flow Demands: The pressure of the process fluid is controlled by various pump systems. The fluid's pressure levels are changed by friction, elevation, and the accumulation of kinetic energy to match the application's needs. It's critical to choose the right pump based on its pressurising mechanisms, the pump's expected elevation or submersion, and the application. What Is The Best Way To Choose The Right Pump? When selecting the correct pump for your site, there are a few factors to consider. Pump size - because removal capacities differ between brand lines, it's critical to match the pump size to the expected load. Pumps for construction sites range in power from 1-2 kW to over 10 kW. We generally recommend renting many pumps for dispersed removal if water extraction is projected to last for a lengthy period of time over a large surface area. Flow rate - you'll want to install a pump that will flush the location with water at the appropriate flow rate. 50-200 gallons per minute is a suitable pace for pump pic collectionlight flow management. If you're doing a lot of extraction, you'll want a pump that can handle 1000 gallons per minute or more. When flood zones are spread out across multiple sites, the ability to transfer a pump to other locations is vital for quick removal. The most versatility is provided by gas-powered devices. Electric water pumps with long chord lengths, on the other hand, can be effective. Sludge, construction materials, and other components may need to be extracted together with the water in some circumstances. Contractors have a variety of solutions for dealing with any composition:
Drainage pumps are used to pump water with less abrasive materials.
Sludge pumps are used to remove non-abrasive sediment and sludge. || December 2021 ||

Slurry pumps are used to remove water that contains abrasive suspended materials such as sand, gravel, or concrete. Motors Electrical energy is converted into mechanical energy via motors, which are electro-mechanical devices. Motors consume over half of the world's energy, making a significant contribution to the global energy environment. Electric motors are one of the most significant advancements in engineering and technology since electricity, which is still considered one of the greatest achievements the world has ever seen. AC and DC motors are the two types of electric motors that are commonly used. The main goal of both AC and DC motors is to transform electrical energy into mechanical energy. They do it, however, in quite different ways. AC motors are powered by alternate current, whereas DC motors are powered by direct current, as their names suggest. What is the difference between a pump and a motor? Pump and Motor Fundamentals Pumps transform mechanical torque into hydraulic energy. It simply allows fluids to travel from one location to another by employing suction, pressure, or both. On the other hand, motors are electromechanical devices that turn electrical energy into mechanical energy. Pump and motor operation A pump moves fluids or slurries by utilising natural forces. As the moving part begins to move, air is pushed out of the way. Electric motors drive impellers, which are used to power pumps. A partial vacuum is generated as a result of water flow, which is later filled with extra air. A motor, on the other hand, is founded on one of the most fundamental laws of electromagnetism, Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction. Pump and Motor Functions Electric motors generate force by interacting with the motor's magnetic field and winding current to produce electrical energy from mechanical energy. Pumps, on the other hand, use a variety of energy sources to rotate their impeller, and thus are useless without a natural propelling force. In order to generate pressure, it uses the rotating movement of the shaft as the input energy. Pump and Motor Types Centrifugal and positive displacement pumps are the two most common types of pumps. They are
CONSTRUCTION MIR ROR

further divided into impulse pumps, gravity pumps, velocity pumps, valveless pumps, and steam pumps based on their technique of displacement. AC and DC motors are the two primary types of motors. AC motors are separated into synchronous and asynchronous types, while DC motors are categorised into brushed and brushless types. Pump and motor applications Pumps are employed in both commercial and industrial settings. Pumps are employed everywhere, from water treatment plants to paper mills to car washes. Centrifugal pumps are employed in a variety of energy and industrial applications. Fans, compressors, conveyor systems, dishwashers, robots, electric vehicles, hoists, elevators, lathes, vacuum cleaners, grinders, shearing machines, and other items all need motors. Market Scenario Pump demand is predicted to remain stable due to the increased use of pumps in a variety of end-user industries. In India, pump makers have exclusively focused on the agriculture and building services industries. The pump market is projected to be significantly influenced by rising oil demand and increased investments in water and wastewater treatment activities. Local vendors also meet a large portion of domestic demand, as the industry has significant capacity to do so. In the coming years, intelligent pump systems and micro disc pump technology are projected to emerge in India's pump market. Intelligent systems should be able to control and regulate the flow or pressure of a fluid, as well as adjust to process changes and be fault-tolerant. As these gadgets play a vital role in agriculture and infrastructure, the market contributes significantly to the country's GDP. Industrial pumps are in high demand in the cement, steel, oil and gas, and water and wastewater industries. Increased oil and gas demand, as well as significant investments in water and wastewater treatment, are expected to boost sales significantly. By 2026, India's industrial pump industry is estimated to be worth more than $2 billion. The key end-users in India include water and wastewater, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, construction, food and beverage, and mining. Industrial pumps are expected to grow in India due to factors such as an increased focus on energy-efficient products in the water and wastewater industry, the development of generic pharmaceutical production, rapid urbanisation, and the rise in massive housing schemes and expansion in infrastructural projects. Different Types and Benefits of Concrete Mixer Trucks at Construction Sites The majority of construction equipment is simple to comprehend. Cranes are used to raise and lower objects. Dump trucks load, unload, and move out. Graders grade and bulldozers push. The only exception is the lowly cement mixer, which is revered by children but despised by harried drivers. The name is the source of the confusion. What most people refer to as a cement mixer is actually a concrete mixer, and it comes in a variety of sorts, sizes, and configurations to perform the various jobs that it is faced with each day. Because the machine must play so many tasks, it is dynamic, changing shape and form as the demands of the people who use concrete change. While concrete has existed in some shape or another since the Romans built the Appian Way, the transit mixer is a 20th-century invention. Regardless of whether it is a recent creation or not, the mixer is a useful tool. The phrase "concrete" refers
|| www.constructionmirror.com ||
to a mixture of aggregate (typically stone or gravel), water, and cement. The generic name for modern cement is "portland," which is a sophisticated blend of finely powdered materials. Concrete is formed by mixing the three elements in a mixer, whether fixed or moving down the road, and allowing the water to be absorbed by the cement, which then binds the aggregate together to form concrete. Concrete mixtures were traditionally produced by hand, which took a long time and lacked precision. Concrete mixers are now used to make concrete mixtures, even in small scale applications, due to rising demand and technological advancements. Concrete mixers are machines that can mix concrete mixes of various strengths precisely and fast. Some concrete mixers may even dispense the concrete mixture directly on the construction site. Concrete mixers come in a variety of sizes and types, depending on the application's

needs. Small and medium-sized applications can employ portable concrete mixers, while largescale applications can use concrete batching facilities constructed on the construction site. Both a driver and a "chuteman" are required to manoeuvre the truck and chute back and forth in order to lay concrete in the manner desired by the contractor. The driver of newer "front discharge" trucks has controls within the cab that allow him to shift the chute in any direction. Concrete mixers often have two or more axles. The most popular truck configurations are four, five, and six axles, with the number of axles determined by the load and local regulations limiting permissible loads on the road. The axles are required to evenly distribute the load, allow operation on weight-restricted roads, and reduce wear and tear on regular roads. During the winter, when road weight limitations are reduced, a two- or three-axle truck has no useful payload in many countries. In some cases, operating in certain places may necessitate the purchase of costly permits.

Different Types of Concrete Mixer Truck
There are different types of concrete mixer trucks and all these concrete trucks come with specific features and functions for making concrete. Standard Transit Concrete Truck: This is one of the most common versions of concrete trucks for sale on the market. The standard transit concrete truck is a particular concrete-making vehicle that is typically used for large-scale construction projects and other operations that require a lot of concrete. On the market, there are many transit concrete trucks with capacities ranging from 2 to 8 cubic metres of concrete output. The conventional transit concrete truck is marketed as the best option for "ready mix" concrete applications. Rough Terrain Concrete Trucks: Rough terrain concrete trucks, as the name implies, are special concrete-making machinery that can traverse even the most challenging terrains. A typical rough terrain concrete truck is a self-loading 4x4 truck capable of mixing, loading, and discharging || www.constructionmirror.com ||

over 100 cubic metres of concrete each day. The majority of rough terrain concrete trucks are equipped with weight-batching electronic technology to ensure an efficient concrete mixing process, as well as a slewing drum that allows operators to discharge concrete from all sides of the vehicle. Both rural building locations and big city regions benefit from this concrete manufacturing machine. Volumetric Concrete Truck: This truck has a number of advantages over standard concretemaking and mixing machines. It's a concrete batching plant and a mobile concrete mixer rolled into one. All of the elements are kept separate in chambers, and the volumetric concrete truck includes a special mechanism that mixes all of the raw materials together when concrete is needed. This is a huge benefit because the amount of garbage generated is greatly decreased. Customers just pay for the amount of concrete they use on the construction site because the operators of this concrete truck can estimate how much is needed. When looking
for concrete trucks for sale, the volumetric concrete truck should be at the top of your list. Concrete mixer trailers: The concrete or cement mixing trailer is a variation of ordinary concrete transportation. These miniature transit-mix vehicles are used to deliver small amounts of concrete. They have a concrete mixing drum that holds between 1 and 1.75 cubic yards of concrete (0.76 and 1.34 m3). Typically, cart-aways are pulled behind a pickup truck and batched from smaller batching devices. Rental yards and building material stores love the mixing trailer method because it allows them to deliver ready-mix to their regular customers. On-Site & Portable Concrete Mixers: Many cubic yards of concrete are usually not necessary for smaller operations, such as residential repairs, renovations, or hobbyist-scale projects. Tiny batches of bagged cement are commonly accessible, as are aggregate and water in small quantities for the small job site. Many different types of tiny portable concrete mixers are available to serve the small-batch concrete market. A tiny revolving drum is used to mix the components in a standard portable concrete mixer. For smaller tasks, the concrete built on site saves time by not having to be transported, giving the employees plenty of time to use it before it hardens. Portable concrete mixers can be powered by gasoline engines, although they're more likely to be powered by electric motors that run on regular household current. The loading mechanism of these concrete mixers is further split. Cement, sand, and other aggregates are put into a hydraulically driven hopper before being dumped into the final mixing drum. By tilting the drum, they can be unloaded. Cement, sand, and other materials are manually added to the mixing drum in hand-feed concrete mixers. In Africa, some Middle Eastern countries, and the Indian subcontinent, both of these types of concrete mixers are widely used in construction. Self-Loading Concrete Mixers: Concrete mixers with self-loading hoppers are one-of-a-kind equipment that batch, mix, and transport concrete. They consist of a revolving drum installed on a cab-mounted chassis frame with a

loading bucket that is operated by the operator. Using the loading bucket, the operator of the self-loading concrete mixer batches and introduces the ingredients for mixing concrete (cement, stone aggregates, etc.) into the drum. The drum is either reversible, tiltable, or a combination of the two. A water dispensing unit delivers a predetermined amount of water to the drum. Within the drum, the mixture is rotated at mixing speeds until the concrete discharges through a chute. Self-loading concrete mixers are ideal for building locations where concrete batching plants are unavailable, underfoot circumstances are unsuitable for concrete transit mixer trucks, or labour is limited. Urban and rural construction, concrete pavement maintenance, bridge and tunnel construction, township-level roadways construction, foundation construction, national military facilities, high-speed railway construction, and so on are all examples of applications.
Benefits of Hiring a Concrete Mixer Truck
Fresh Concrete Everytime: Having a concrete mixer on site ensures that the concrete you require is always fresh and ready to use, regardless of the application. Flowable fill, rapid setting concrete, pervious concrete, and wet and dry shotcrete are all popular applications for a mobile mixer. It takes time to load and deliver concrete from a standard batch facility to your location. This can cause the concrete to degrade and lose its workability, making it more difficult to work with. Materials are kept in separate containers so that a fresh mix is given every time. Time: Because of the time reductions provided by concrete trucks, any reputable supplier may provide same-day and next-day deliveries. When working on a construction project with a tight timeline or when your original concrete supplier has let you down, this is an essential service. Simply contact us to inquire about same-day availability. Capacity: The trucks transport concrete ranging in volume from 0.5 cubic metres to 8 cubic metres at Ever Readymix. As a result, they can make fewer trips while transporting more concrete than ever before. It's incredibly practical and uses less gasoline, which helps

to reduce CO2 emissions. Cost-Effective: You have complete control over your concrete delivery when you rent a mobile concrete mixer. Your flexibility to pay for only what you require allows you to save a lot of money on your project. A mobile concrete mixer truck is the solution for remote building sites or when a batch plant cannot be placed on site. You won't have to wait for a concrete truck to come, with traffic and high demand affecting its arrival time and quality. The labour costs and savings are reflected in the time you save with a concrete mixing truck loaded with readymix concrete. Not mixing onsite can save you hours of work, and your employees will be happier as a result of the less labor-intensive option. You'll never have the wrong grade of concrete or mix the materials incorrectly with a skilled mixer and computerised batching plant on hand. Invest in doing things correctly the first time, and you'll never have to do it again. Friendly to the Environment: Concrete waste is reduced by being able to mix exactly the amount you need when you need it. This both preserves the environment and saves money because garbage must be properly disposed of. It might be difficult to order the exact amount of concrete needed for a project, which can result in buying more than is required. You may simply make an additional amount needed with a mobile concrete mixer truck. Concrete is delivered in a flexible manner: Mobile concrete mixers, like any other concrete plant, can be tailored to fit the specific needs of your jobsite. No matter what time of day or night you need it, your concrete may be delivered in no time! Colors, admixtures, and water may be adjusted for each batch of concrete without having to worry about the concrete becoming too hot or overmixed. Sand, unshrinkable fill (ufill), regulated density backfill, and medium and high strength concrete are all available in our vehicles. On request, fibre and air additions, as well as bespoke mix ratios, are available.

on its own. Self-loading transit mixer combines the operations of a loader, mixer, concrete truck, and generator set, among others. It also comes with its own water tank and a suction pump. In situations where there is a water source, a constant water supply to the machine can be achieved. Strong Applicability: It can discharge concrete at a 270-degree angle, making it suited for a wide range of regional conditions. Simple Operation: The self-concrete mixer operator may control the entire process, including bucket raising and lowering, rotating, and tank turning, with a multipurpose operation handle. The walking system uses four wheels and a stepless speed shift to provide convenient and reliable transportation. Because the self-loading mobile concrete mixer is multifunctional, it eliminates the need for additional equipment such as a water truck, mixer, or loader. This saves a lot of money on both equipment and manpower. It also features certain important parts, such as a weighing system, hydraulic system, and powerful mixing system, which add to the self-loading mixer machine's reliable quality.

How a Concrete Mixer Truck Works?
A conventional concrete truck, also known as an in-transit mixer, can be loaded with dry components and water, with mixing taking place during transportation, or it can be loaded with mixed concrete. The drum rotates as the truck moves, keeping the concrete agitated and so liquid until it's ready to be delivered to the correct position. A multi-purpose blade is housed inside the drum. In a spiral pattern, the blade runs the length of the drum on the inside. The blade agitates and mixes the concrete as it turns into the drum's base. The spiral operates as an archimedes screw when the drum's rotation is reversed in the opposite direction, towards the opening.
Concrete Mixer Truck Market Scenario
The demand for concrete mixers is predicted to be fueled by fast urbanisation, rising population, strong economic expansion, and increased construction activity in both developed and developing countries. According to estimates from Global Construction Perspectives Limited and Oxford Economics Limited, the world construction industry might account for 14.7 percent of global GDP by 2030. Concrete highways, power plants, canals, airports, dams, harbours, and other big-scale development sites are driving up demand for massive volumes of the material. Concrete mixing equipment capable of producing up to 330 m3 of hardened concrete per hour and concrete mixer trucks capable of transporting up to 10 m3 of concrete at a time are ideal for mixing huge volumes of concrete on-site. Concrete is the most frequently used construction material in the world, with an estimated yearly output of 4 billion cubic metres. Instead of being mixed on-site and transported in concrete mixing transport trucks, ready-mix concrete is made in a mixing plant. These tracks are made out of a drum mounted on a truck's chassis that has multiple spiral blades and is either operated by the truck's engine or by a separate mechanism. The concrete mixing systems are built to be set up in 36 to 40 hours. Plug-in connections make it simple to connect fully electrical and pneumatically pre-installed transport components. These systems are simple to use and maintain, with convenient accessibility for maintenance. CM || www.constructionmirror.com ||

Cement, An Exceptionally Significant Construction Ingredient; Types and Industry Development A cement is any substance that, by a series of chemical reactions known as setting, binds other materials together. Cements are dry powders that are not to be mistaken with concrete or mortar, yet they are a key component of both of these materials, acting as the 'glue' that gives structures their strength. Concrete also contains gritty aggregates, whereas mortar is made out of cement and sand. Cement is an exceptionally significant construction ingredient because it is a substantial component of both of these building materials. It is utilised in the construction of many of the modern world's structures, including buildings, bridges, harbours, runways, and roadways. It's also utilised for building facades and other decorative elements. Cement is the world's second most used commodity, behind oil, because to the constant need for all of these constructions, which is progressively coming from the developing globe.
|| www.constructionmirror.com ||
Different Types of Cement Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC): The most extensively used type of cement is ordinary Portland cement, which is suited for all types of concrete building. With yearly global production of roughly 3.8 million cubic metres, it is the most widely produced and utilised form of cement on the planet. This cement can be used in any type of concrete building. Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC): Grinding pozzolanic cl i n ke r w i t h Po r t l a n d cement produces Portland pozzolana cement. It can also be made by combining fine pozzolana with gypsum or calcium sulphate, or by blending Portland cement and fine pozzolana closely and uniformly. When compared to ordinary portland cement, this cement has a higher resistance to various chemical attacks on concrete, and as a result, it is widely used. It's employed in maritime constructions, sewage works, and underwater concrete

laying, such as bridges, piers, dams, and mass concrete works, among other things.

Rapid Hardening Cement: Rapid hardening cement achieves high strength quickly and is similar to ordinary portland cement. It is used in concrete where formwork is removed early in the process (OPC). This cement has a higher lime content, higher c3s content, and finer grinding, resulting in a stronger early strength development than OPC. Rapid hardening cement has a three-day strength that is comparable to OPC's seven-day strength when the water-cement ratio is the same. As a result, the advantage of this cement is that formwork can be removed early, increasing building speed and lowering construction costs by reducing formwork costs. Quick-Setting Cement: The only difference between quick-setting and rapid-hardening cement is that quick-setting cement cures faster. Simultaneously, the rate of strength increase is comparable to Ordinary Portland Cement, but quick hardening cement gains strength rapidly. In both circumstances, the formwork can be removed sooner. Quick setting cement is used for concreting in static or moving water and where work must be done in a short period of time. Low Heat Cement: Low heat cement is made by increasing the quantity of C2S while keeping the percentage of tricalcium aluminate below 6%. The concrete produces low heat of hydration due to a tiny amount of tricalcium aluminate. Because of the low heat of hydration, low heat cement is suitable for mass concrete construction such as gravity dams, as it prevents concrete breaking owing to heat. This cement offers stronger resistance to sulphates, is less reactive, and has a longer initial setting time than OPC. Sulfates Resisting Cement: Sulfate-resistant cement is used in the construction of foundations where the soil has a high sulphate content to limit the risk of sulphate attack on concrete. The amount of C3A and C4AF in this cement has decreased. Sulfate resistant cement is utilised in building subjected to strong sulphate action by water and soil in areas like canals linings, culverts, retaining walls, syphons, etc.

High Alumina Cement: High alumina cement is made by melting a bauxite-lime combination and mixing it with clinker. It's a quick-setting cement that takes around 3.5 and 5 hours to firm in the beginning and end, respectively. This cement has a higher compressive strength and is more workable than standard portland cement, making it ideal for projects involving high temperatures, frost, or acidic activity. White Cement: It is made from iron oxide-free raw materials and is a white variant of conventional portland cement. It is more expensive and is used for architectural purposes such as precast curtain wall and facing panels, terrazzo surfaces, and interior and exterior decorative work such as building exterior renderings, facing slabs, floorings, ornamental concrete products, garden paths, swimming pools, and so on. Colored cement: It's made by combining 5- 10% mineral pigments with regular cement. They're commonly employed for decorative floor work. Air-Entertaining Cement: During the grinding of clinker, air-entraining agents such as resins, glues, sodium salts of sulphates, and other indigenous air-entraining agents are added. This type of cement is particularly well suited to improving workability with a lower watercement ratio and improving concrete's frost resistance. Expansive Cement: Expansive cement expands slightly over time but does not shrink during or after the hardening process. Anchor bolts and prestressed concrete ducts are typically grouted using this cement. Hydrographic Cement: Hydrographic cement is made by combining compounds that repel water and has a good workability and strength. It has the ability to repel water and is unaffected by rain or monsoon. Dams, water tanks, spillways, water retention structures, and other water structures are commonly constructed with hydrophobic cement.
How to Test the Quality of Cement in the Field?
1. Cement Packing Date: Cement should be utilised within 90 days of the date of manufacture. Cement's strength deteriorates over time. That is why you should doublecheck the packing date. 2. Cement Color Test: The cement should be a light or grey hue with a greenish tint, || www.constructionmirror.com ||

and it should be homogeneous within a bag. The colour of the cement indicates an overabundance of clay or lime, as well as a burning degree. Lump Presence Test: Lumpiness in cement suggests that it has been exposed to moisture. As a result, cement bags with small, hard lumps should be rejected. The lumps indicate that the cement has hardened. Cement Smoothness Test: A smooth feeling should be obtained while rubbing a cement between fingers. A rough feeling indicates that the cement has been contaminated with sand. Cement Fragrance Test: Smell a pinch of cement; if you get an earthy smell, it means the cement has a lot of pulverised silt and clay in it as an adulterant. Temperature of Cement: Place your hand in a bag of cement; you should get a cold sensation rather than a warm one. The lack of moisture in that bag of cement is evidenced by the cold feeling. Float Test for Cement: When you throw a small amount of cement into water, the cement particle should stay on the surface for a long time. Cement Setting Evaluation: Take a specific amount of cement and combine it with water. Then, pour the mixture onto a glass plate and immerse it in water for 24 hours. The cement paste should harden rather than crack. Cement Strength Test: Make a cement block and let it cure for seven days. Then, with a span of 150mm, place the specimen on a support. Then, with a weight of roughly 34 kilogrammes, load the cement sample. The cement block should not show any signs of failure. The cement block should be 25mm in width, 25mm in height, and 200mm in length.
Indian Cement Industry
India is the world's second-largest cement production. It is responsible for more than 7% of the world's installed capacity. India's infrastructure and construction sectors have a lot of room for growth, and the cement industry is likely to profit greatly from it. Some recent initiatives, such as the creation of 98 smart cities, are projected to provide the sector a significant boost. Several foreign players, including Lafarge-Holcim, 80

Heidelberg Cement, and Vicat, have recently invested in the country thanks to favourable government policies. The ready availability of raw resources for creating cement, such as limestone and coal, is a crucial aspect that promotes the sector's expansion. In FY21, India produced 294.4 million tonnes (MT) of cement, compared to 329 million tonnes (MT) in FY20. Cement production reached 329 million tonnes (MT) in FY20, with 381 MT expected by FY22. However, consumption was 327 MT in FY20 and is expected to rise to 379 MT by FY22. By 2020, cement manufacturing capacity is expected to reach 550 MT. Because India has abundant and high-quality limestone reserves throu g h o u t the country, the cement sector has enormous expansion potential. Cement output in India is predicted to rise by 12% YoY in FY22, owing to increased demand for rural homes and the government's strong focus on infrastructure development. The Indian cement sector is expected to add 80 million tonnes (MT) of capacity by FY24, the most in ten years, thanks to rising spending on housing and infrastructure projects. Higher infrastructure spending in FY22 budget estimates–34.9 percent for highways, 8.7 percent for metros, and 33.6 percent for railways–is expected to enhance demand. Cement and gypsum products received US$ 5.28 billion in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) between April 2000 and June 2021, according to data supplied by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). Working remotely is likely to become more popular in 2021, and demand for cheap residences with ticket sizes of less than Rs. 40-50 lakh is expected to surge in Tier 2 and 3 cities, resulting in an increase in cement demand. Between July and September 2021, private equity real estate investments increased by 24% year on year to US$ 477 million.

FROM STEEL TO ALUMINIUM: THE BRACE FOR AN ENORMOUS TRANSITION IN EV'S
Guest Article
Article as provided by Mr. Deepak Mathur, Sr. Vice President, Global Marketing and Sales Jindal Aluminium Limited
86
As a metal, Aluminium is not new to the auto industry. It's over a century since the first sports car featuring an Aluminium body premiered at the Berlin International Motor Show in 1899. It has proven itself to be a universally versatile metal. What interest the EV manufacturers about Aluminium over steel are its sustainable nature, light-weighting capabilities, and energy efficiency. The announcement of state-level policies partnering India's climate change commitments to reduce emission intensity by 33-35% by 2030 from 2005 levels has set the ball rolling for the adoption of EVs (Electric Vehicles). India's commitment to go green during the COP21 Summit held in Paris makes it pertinent to introduce alternative mobility methods. The announced policies and regulations for the manufacture and sale of EVs by different state governments are very encouraging. And with a constant push from the Government of India, it is estimated that India will be one of the largest markets for EVs by 2040. A catalyst making this objective possible is Aluminium.
Emerging Challenges
When we look at automobile manufacturing, metals used as raw materials are examined for strength and resistance. The popularity of steel is due to its easy availability, cost-effectiveness. However, as the world transitions from internal combustion engines to EVs, searching for a stronger yet lighter metal has led to Aluminium. It is a metal that also offers several other benefits like being circular in nature and can play a vital role in ensuring electric mobility plans are a success.

Aluminium is known not just for enhancing energy efficiency but also for reducing carbon emissions. It reduces vehicular weight helping in smoother acceleration boosting the performance, safety, efficiency, and durability of an electric vehicle, besides rendering several benefits that include protecting our environment.
Immense Benefits
In present-day automobile manufacturing, Aluminium is the second most used material next to steel. A kg of Aluminium can replace two kgs of steel or cast iron. That is the kind of benefit that the industry wants to make use of, as it braces for an enormous transition from internal combustion engines to electric vehicles. With electric mobility gaining speed and its wide adoption eventually reducing vehicle emissions, the materials used for manufacturing will remain a critical part of the process. And given the versatile use of Aluminium, this can go beyond the production phase to actual vehicle use and associated infrastructure. Currently, the automobile industry uses aluminum to manufacture frames and bodies, electrical wiring, brakes system, air conditioner condenser, and many other components. Given Aluminium's performance, safety, environmental benefits, fuel efficiency, and durability, estimates in the public domain suggest that for every 10 lakh electric vehicles sold, the Aluminium demand will be 2.5 lakh tons, with average Aluminium content of 250 kg/EV.
Creating an Ecosystem
The versatile use of Aluminium takes it beyond the manufacturing of components for electric vehicles. The transition to EV's also finds a role for Aluminium in the associated infrastructure needed for the success of these vehicles. For example, batteries, charging stations, and battery casings put together, are expected to increase the usage of Aluminium up to 80 kg per vehicle on average. Today, downstream Aluminium is working to make the best alloys and solutions available to meet the EV manufacturing requirements for both vehicles and associated charging infrastructure. It will increase its usage per vehicle and fulfill Global goals of using EVs made sustainably for a cleaner future. CM
