MARSH MADNESS RETURNS WITH 25 CLEANUPS Pull on your boots and get muddy with Keep Golden Isles Beautiful! Help keep the beautiful Marshes of Glynn litter free at one of 25 scheduled March “Marsh Madness” cleanups. Sponsored by Georgia-Pacific Brunswick Cellulose Mill and kicking off the national Great America Cleanup effort locally, area salt marsh cleanups are planned for various days
of the week and times, to accommodate the largest number of volunteers possible. All ages are welcome! Individual cleanup event listings with site maps, can be found at kgib.org under the “events” tab. You can earn Marsh Madness custom swag too! Get a t-shirt got working at least 3 cleanups and an aluminum water bottle for working minimum of 5. Last year 9 tons of trash were removed! FORT COMES TO LIFE AGAIN Huzzah! Living History has returned to Fort Frederica. Come out to Fort Frederica National Monument on Saturdays and Sundays to see weaving, candle making, cooking, blacksmithing, soldier talks and much more. Demonstrations begin in the morning and continue until 3:00 p.m. Town tours led by a Ranger will take place every day at 11:15 a.m. and 2:15 p.m., staff and weather permitting. Take a stroll up Broad Street as they share the history of the town and visit the remains of some of the house foundations before concluding at the fort. This national historic site on St. Simons Island is located at 6515 Frederica Road. Open 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. Admission is always free. For more information, visit nps.gov/fofr.
CHAMPIONS OF GEORGIA HISTORY The Coastal Georgia Historical Society was recently named 2021 Affiliate Chapter of the Year by Georgia Historical Society. Established in 1996, Georgia Historical Society’s Affiliate Chapter Program provides resources to local historical organizations and creates a network of institutions with the likeminded goal of sharing Georgia’s diverse history throughout the state. Today, the program has approximately 100 participating organizations. Georgia Historical Society recognizes a single Affiliate Chapter of the Year annually for its exemplary leadership in the field of state and local history. Congratulations, friends!
