INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL RETURNS IN APRIL

The 8th Annual International Festival at the Brunswick Campus of the College of Coastal Georgia will be held on Friday, April 5, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. Once again, the Robert S. Abbott Race Unity Institute partners with College of Coastal Georgia to host this celebration highlighting the various cultures that are represented in the Golden Isles. There will be fun and educational events to appeal to all ages, including a Global Food Bazaar, a Marketplace with an array of artisan wares, a multicultural lineup of musical groups, a Culture EXPO, a KidFest, informational displays by community organizations, and more. Admission is free and open to the public. It’s a rain-or-shine event.

JEWISH FESTIVAL TURNS FIVE

Join Historic Temple Beth Tefilloh to celebrate their 5th annual Jewish Food and Culture festival Sunday, March 24, from noon to 3:30 p.m. in the Jekyll Squares off Newcastle Street in historic downtown Brunswick. The entire community is invited to learn more about the Jewish culture by experiencing the music, ceremonies, and especially the delicious traditional food. Admission to the festival is free. Temple members will be selling a variety of food, including challah, kugels, rugelach, hamentashen, and more. There will be temple tours offered, activities for children, a Jewish wedding ceremony, Israeli dancing, and a raffle. Proceeds will go to the 125+ year old temple’s restoration and building fund. A WHALE OF A GOOD TIME

The 5th annual Wesley Academy of Early Learning (WAEL) Color Run and Spring Festival will be held on Saturday, March 23rd at Wesley United Methodist Church. Proceeds from the event will be used for phase 2 of the preschool’s playground renovations. The 5K Run/Walk starts at 9:00 a.m. and is followed by the 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk at 9:10 a.m. Registration for the 5K Color Run is $25 and $15 for the 1 Mile Family Fun Color Walk. Pre-registration includes T-shirt and swag bag. Medals will be given out to the top 3 male and female runners for each age group. The festival will include bounce houses, photo opportunities with surprise characters, face painting and more for the kids. A $10 wrist band grants access to all festival activities. CHANGES TO TURTLE CRAWL

Turtle Crawl was created in 2003 as a fundraiser for the Georgia Sea Turtle Center (GSTC). Since that time, the event and its participants have raised more than $100,000 to help save sea turtles. As the Center continues to grow and change, so will the event that supports its lifesaving work. The sprint and international triathlons have been eliminated from the Turtle Crawl events, but the highly popular 5k and 10k races remain and a one-mile Fun Run on the beach has been added. The new earlier event date is March 9. Registration prices remain the same, including a donation to the Georgia Sea Turtle Center an daily admission to the Center. A Ghost Crawler option has been added to allow people who can’t participate in the event to support GSTC and receive a race shirt. For more information, visit jekyllisland.org.

BIRDIES AND BASS TOURNEY MIXES IT UP

Time to grab your rod, reel, and favorite putter too! March 7 is the date for FaithWorks’ 3rd Annual Birdies and Bass golf tournament at The King and Prince Golf Course. They’re mixing it up a bit this year, format will be a 4-person shamble with 2 best scores counting for the team. There will be gross and net prizes, a mysterious “yellow ball” tournament, a chance to win a car, silent auction, and much more. If you catch some fish, you get to shave strokes off of your golf game! Fishing will begin at 8:30 a.m. followed by lunch then 18 holes of golf. Entrance fee is $100 per person or $400 per team. SIX YEARS OF SHAMROCKIN’

This year makes the sixth for Shamrockin’ to benefit Communities in Schools of Glynn. The fun fundraiser will return on Saturday, March 16 beginning at 5:00 p.m. in a new venue: Conquer (near ACE Garden Center). Celebrate your St. Patrick’s Day early and support students in the community with an evening of dancing and shenanigans with Dr. John Weaver in the DJ booth, delicious light bites to satisfy your palate and free flowing beer and wine. All proceeds from the event benefit Communities in Schools of Glynn. Communities in Schools works closely with schools, social services, businesses and volunteers to get young people the things they need to learn, grow, and become productive adults: mentors and tutors, after-school help, and family services to stabilize the home. COASTAL SYMPHONY FASHION SHOW

New York fashion designer Zang Toi returns to the Golden Isles to present a runway show benefiting the Coastal Symphony of Georgia. He will be showing his Spring 2019 collection, which will transport you to the French Riviera. Toi is the “go to” designer for many celebrities including Patti LaBelle, Ivanka Trump, Melinda Gates, Elizabeth Taylor, and Sharon Stone. The show will be held at the Historic Brunswick Courthouse on March 29th. Tickets are $95/person and include roundtrip transportation from St. Simons Island to the runway show and a reception with an open bar and passed hors d’oeuvres. PANCAKES & PRINCESSES

On March 23, the Junior Women’s Association of the Golden Isles is holding its 2nd Annual Character Breakfast. Last Fall’s inaugural Character Breakfast fundraiser at Frederica Academy was a phenomenal success and hopefully, it will be so again in its new venue at the Saint Francis Xavier Catholic School Parish Hall in Brunswick. Children are invited to dress up and come out from 8:30-9:30 a.m. to enjoy breakfast with their favorite Disney princesses, storybook and movie characters. Proceeds from the breakfast benefit JWAGI community programing including Financial Literacy and Early Education Literacy programs with the Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Georgia, the Backpack Buddies program, and Done In A Day projects with Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia. OYSTERS AND ALLMAN BROTHERS

After last year’s success, The King and Prince Golf Resort is excited to host the return of this fundraising oyster roast featuring a performance by TRIBUTE – a Celebration of the Allman Brothers Band. Saturday, March 9, is the date, the time is 6:00-10:00 p.m., and the menu isn’t limited to oysters!
