What makes a house a home? Throughout the design and construction process, Harrison Design listens carefully to clients in order to conceive and build a house the owners will love and cherish for decades to come. Chad Goehring, principal of the office, says understanding priorities and maintaining an open dialogue are key to a successful outcome.

Here are some trends Goehring is currently seeing in new home design:

Indoor/Outdoor Living: Designs that blend indoor spaces with the outdoors satisfy owners’ desires to engage with nature. “Innovative window design offers folding window walls, pivoting glass panels and phantom screens so the interior can transition seamlessly with an outdoor area, and residents can enjoy welcoming breezes and natural sounds,” says Goehring.

Outdoor Entertaining: Extended covered areas, such as loggias and terraces, are outfitted with full kitchens, including a sink, refrigerator, cooktop and grills, along with comfortable furnishings and sophisticated AV systems.

Wellness: Massage rooms, jacuzzi spas and quiet spaces designed for meditation and prayer offer rejuvenation and refuge. Biophilia, a prevailing design trend, incorporates organic materials, plants, natural views, fresh ventilation and sunlight into homes. Pampered Pets: Dedicated pet zones include nooks for dog pens and beds; walkin dog showers, sometimes with grooming platforms, and multipurpose rooms where pets can eat, be bathed, sleep and hang out without owner worries.
