MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT

D. M. Reddy President RGIPT Board of Governors

“The task of a university is the creation of the future....” said Alfred North Whitehead. The essence of an educational institution is aptly captured in the above saying. Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT) derives its core values from this spirit and envisions becoming a world class educational entity to serve as a fountainhead for nurturing 'Petrocrats'. The ever growing energy demand worldwide has triggered enormous growth in the E&P sector. Similarly, the downstream sector has become more competitive with the entry of private sector in both refining of crude and marketing of petroleum products. Gas is the fuel of the future and the country has responded well to the surging gas demands. The natural gas sector is expanding rapidly with a nationwide distribution network being planned. Globalization has changed the scenario of Indian petroleum world and many Indian oil and gas majors have intensified their overseas activities. This in turn has fuelled the demand of professionals armoured with knowledge of latest technologies. This changing dynamics of the industry and the need to have a balanced energy mix necessitated the development of a specialized institution which can serve as a training ground for skilled professionals who will play a pivotal role in supplying the energy demand of the country. RGIPT with its long list of reputed patrons is poised to provide professionals with right set of skills to industries. While brainstorming the type of model to be adopted, it emerged to develop the institute as a “Corporate University” to bridge academia-industry gap and also to achieve active participation of industry in its governance and development. The undergraduate batch of RGIPT is inculcated with technical skills and values, which believes in pursuing the tradition of excellence. RGIPT is ready with its 4th batch of MBA, which is well equipped to understand the dynamics of industry. I am confident that the students would utilize this opportunity for moulding their creativity and lay the foundation of a world-class lineage. I take this opportunity to invite national and international companies for undergraduate and post graduate placements. I am sure your organization will serve as a dynamic learning ground for our students preparing them for industry challenges.

MESSAGE FROM DIRECTOR

Dr. J. P. Gupta Director RGIPT, Rae Bareli

I am pleased to introduce to you the PostGraduate batch from RGIPT. Our institute, conferred with the status of “Institute of National Importance” through an Act of the Parliament, has set very high standards for itself. The institute has the unique distinction of being nurtured by the Oil and Gas fraternity of India. This brings to our disposal a wide industry network to tap into. The primary objective of the faculty at RGIPT is to spawn a cadre of professionals with necessary skills to stand-up to the challenges in the various segments of the energy and chemical industry sectors. To this end, members of the faculty are drawn from a pool of industry veterans and distinguished academicians. At RGIPT, we believe in providing an environment where students can experiment with their ideas and learn from their own experience, thereby fostering creativity as well as rationality. Both Undergraduate and Post Graduate programmes have been designed with vital inputs from industry and are being continuously updated to meet the changing and challenging needs of the industry. It's been four years since RGIPT's inception and this year saw the pioneer batch of B. Tech. and third batch of MBA and M. Tech. stepping out of its hallowed portals. Reports by employers confirm that our alumni are excelling in their respective assignments and have carved out a niche for themselves. The class of 2013 is now ready to embark on their journey into the professional world. The current batch is a reservoir of energetic and motivated students who I believe would make substantial contributions to industry and hence to country’s growth. I am delighted to invite you to our campus for the Final Placements of 2013 batch of MBA.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT) has a unique distinction and is the first national level institute being promoted by leading Oil & Gas Companies of India. Since the inception of the institute, our promoters have been providing continuous guidance to develop industry oriented curricula for Undergraduate and Post Graduate Programmes and shared knowledge, expertise and experience with students and faculty in the form of Guest Lectures, Industrial Visits and Summer Trainings to develop innovative and cognizant managers for the energy industry. Also, their active participation in the various activities of institute shows their interest to develop world class institution focused on energy sector and this in turn motivates us to develop such a platform where future leaders for Chemical, Petroleum, Petro-Chemical and Energy industries could be nurtured. We extend our sincere thanks to these leaders for their support for creating “Petrocrats” for energy industry and developing campus infrastructure at Rae Bareli, U. P. and Siva Sagar, Assam:

We are also thankful to our promoters for their participation in Campus Placement drives at RGIPT, Rae Bareli, U.P., India and inducting RGIPTians for their esteemed organization. We hope that their support and guidance to develop World class “Petrocrats” will continue the same way in the years to come.

ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES

The objective of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT) is to promote capacity building in competencies required in the hydrocarbon sector covering the entire hydrocarbon value chain. To this end, RGIPT offers programmes of education and research at Graduate, Post-Graduate and Doctoral levels in various areas of the petroleum and energy sector. Currently, RGIPT offers following Programmes: MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME The Department of Management Studies, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology has been successfully running its MBA in Petroleum & Energy Management programme for the past three years at Rae Bareli Campus. Industry participation, patronage, and collaboration are key drivers of such a domain specific programme. Likewise, real life industry exposure and interaction with corporate world during the programme play a vital role in grooming the students for challenging corporate roles. Taken together, there is a growing realization that the programme can be further enriched and expanded rapidly by moving to a strategically advantageous location like NCR. Being located in NCR region, would facilitate greater participation by industry in mentoring, hiring and placement of MBA candidates. The relocation decision also envisages significant opportunities for faculty in terms of collaborative research and consulting projects with industry. In a major boost to executive development initiative for petroleum and energy industry, the Department of Management Studies is now well placed to design and deliver focused executive development programmes. Over time, this would feed into the flagship MBA programme in terms of development of industry specific content, cases and teaching material. In light of these considerations the Department of Management Studies has been relocated to OIDB Bhawan, Sector-73, NOIDA from academic session 2012-13. STUDENTS-LIFE

All work and no play make Jack a dull boy, so goes the popular saying. RGIPT keeping in mind the need for complete physical and mental well being promotes a healthy physical and cultural environment in its campus. Excellent facilities for both indoor (Carom, Chess, Table Tennis) and outdoor games (Basket Ball, Tennis, Volleyball) are available on campus. It has organized its first sports fest 'Oilympics 2011', which saw participation from numerous colleges in the region. Moreover, inter-college cricket and football tournaments are being organized regularly which not only foster a healthy sense of competition but also give the students an opportunity to hone their personality multifariously and a platform to showcase their talent. RGIPT has a multicultural environment and it allows ample opportunities to students to showcase the vibrancy of the cultures from the various provinces of the land. For this, the institute conducts number of events year round. Srijan, the literary event allows the students to exhibit their poetic and oratory skill and display their general knowledge. Pratidhwani, the cultural festival allowed the students to dancing, singing and histrionics. Thus, students at RGIPT are not only focused in their studies but are also ready to take their place in the world both mentally as well as culturally after graduating from the institute.

BEYOND CLASSROOM Learning is a continuous process not confined to the classrooms. 'Petrocrats' believe in the concept of continuous learning. The students at RGIPT participate in a host of extra-curricular activities capturing the pulse of Oil & Gas sector. The student community, striving to transform this enthusiasm into organized action, is currently managing the following clubs:

Consortia of Energy Professionals (C.E.P) The club provides a common platform for the budding managers to stay abreast with the latest trends in the hydrocarbon industry. C.E.P. has been organizing presentations, formal discussions, quizzes (Petro-Quiz- a semi-annual quizzing competition) and on-the-spot events to highlight the current scenarios in the Oil & Gas sector.

Arpan: The Social Club The main focus of the group is to provide service and help to the needy living in and around Noida. Some of the initiatives taken by this club include providing education, anna daan and vastra daan to orphanages and old age homes. The events and initiatives undertaken by this group help instill in the students a sense of social responsibility. 14

Focus Group

Manthan: The B-Plan Club

Group Discussion is an integral part of the professional world and an integrated process of the short-listing procedure for many recruiting organization, because business management is essentially a group activity and working with groups is perhaps the most important parameter of career success as a manager. The characteristics on which one is being judged in Group Discussion Process are Content, Communication Skills, Group Dynamics and Leadership Qualities. One's career and status within one's field can only be improved if one can learn some guidelines and tactics that refine one's group discussion skills. So, there has been a continuous and dedicated effort from RGIPT Club to focus on Group Discussion Process through “Focus Group”.

Every good business thrives on two factors: Innovative ideas and a Robust Business Model. At RGIPT, we believe that the spirit of Innovation and Entrepreneurship have been key attributes for a successful Business. Promoting this same spirit among our students is RGIPT's B-Plan Club.

Srijana: The Poster Design Club The aim of the club is not only to demonstrate that the younger generations are prepared to bear their share of the responsibility for our world but, first and foremost, to publicize their view on different issues related to energy sector to a broad public by means of exhibitions.

“Jigyasa”– RGIPT Quiz Series

Bullion: The Finance Club The club, with its primary focus on diffusion of financial knowledge, conducts academic sessions including presentations, quizzes, group discussions and financial games..

Case Study Challenge To foster better understanding and application of the concepts, the methodology of case study analysis is followed extensively at RGIPT. In line with the same ideology, the RGIPT Case Study Challenge, on one hand complements the course curriculum by involving cases ranging from philosophy to history to science & technology to pretty much anything to students' liking. While at the same time, it subtly engages students to sharpen their analytical skills in a way that cannot be more fun. Further, it helps the participants develop team management skills while providing them with ample opportunities to showcase their intellectual mettle.

As the term suggests this club was formed to engage students into competitive quiz events in order to enhance their knowledge about the current happenings of the world as well as the events that have happened in the past which have determined the course of future. In this club we include categories such as politics, oil and gas, history, geography in order to enhance the knowledge base of the students and make them ready to face any challenge which they may come across in the world.

Admad This club aims at igniting the innovative minds to give advertising, marketing and creativity a whole new perspective. The club provides a platform where participants are tested for spontaneity and creativity with some seasoning of insanity and Management spices in it. As aptly put by famous Japanese movies director Akira Kurosawa, “In a mad world, only the mad are sane.”

Adrenaline: The Sports Club

The Cultural Club The club has been conducting the following activities: The Visual Art- different events related to the handicrafts, paintings based on different subjects. The Performing Art - this shall be capacitated with skits, singing, reviving social issues with a management view point.

15

With its utmost focus on the all-round development of the students, the student committee has set up a sports club that organizes tournaments, contests, matches and other events in sports and games like cricket, tennis, tabletennis, soccer, basketball, volley-ball, badminton, chess and other board games.
