Eco-clothes are made with natural materials and they’re fashionable! What are they like? Let’s find out together!

Clean fashion Eco-fashion helps nature. Ecological designers use only a little water and electricity and they use clean energy, like sun and wind power. The plastic in these sunglasses is made with vegetable oil!

Eco-stars Many international stars love eco-fashion. The actress and singer Selena Gomez makes ecoclothes. Emma Watson, famous for her parts in the Harry Potter films, creates outfits which are completely biological!

Eco-clothes

Materials The materials for eco-clothes are all natural, biological and have no chemical substances. Do you want a colourful skirt, T-shirt or trousers? You can choose from biological cotton or linen. And in the winter? Jumpers in biological wool! You can also find shoes, bags and other accessories in bamboo and hemp, or even made from old car tyres!

Colours The colours of the materials are also natural. Do you want a brown T-shirt? You can use tea or coffee to change the colour. Do you want a red T-shirt? You can colour it with red roses! Saffron can colour things yellow and blueberries can colour things purple. But be careful before you try to colour anything yourself!

Ecological material Today there is a very successful material which is made only from plant matter and recycled paper. What is it called? Find 10 words in the grid and discover its name!

A weekend in London

Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th September is a very important weekend in London this year. It is the closing weekend of the London Olympic Games and the weekend of the Mayor’s Thames Festival in England’s capital city too!

The festival It is the largest free outdoor arts festival in London and, for two days in September, you can find exhibitions and performances in all forms of art, from street art, light shows and illustration to music, dance and circus acts. And it all takes place along London’s River Thames.

The Kids’ Choir

This year

Probably the most important event at the festival is the performance of the Thames Festival Kids’ Choir. During the previous school year, the festival works with music teachers and primary schools in London to develop an enormous choir of 750 children. These children perform together in front of Tower Bridge to an audience of thousands of people!

2012 will be a spectacular year for the Kids’ Choir because it is the tenth anniversary of the Kids’ Choir event. To celebrate this important birthday, the festival asked the singer/ songwriter Sam Lee to write a special song for the children to perform. The song is called Song for the Thames Silkie, and it will be sung on Sunday 9th September 2012 at 1pm.
