Your Language Portfolio How do you know if a singer is good? Easy, listen to his/her songs. How do you know if a student is good at English? You can look at his/her exam and class test results. And now the European Council also suggests all students keep a Portfolio.
What is the Portfolio? It’s a folder where you keep different material to show your progress in English. What can I put in my Portfolio? Here are some ideas: texts you have written at home or in class a recording of oral exercises, eg a role play photographs of posters made in group projects photocopies of your exam results, certificates etc.
How much work do I have to do? Not a lot, if you remember to collect your work regularly. Write these things on each piece of work: Date Name and age (and your CEFR level, for example A1) Class School Done at home or at school? Individual or group work? Update your Portfolio regularly.Take out anything old and add new work.
Why do I need a Portfolio? Imagine you move to another school, or even another country. Everyone can look at your Portfolio and see your level and progress in English.
