ax was a farmer. He lived in a house in the mountains with his two best friends, a kind, brown donkey called Caramel and a pretty, white goat called Snowflake. They were always very busy. Every day they got up at half past six in the morning. After breakfast, Max took Snowflake to the mountains. The grass was greener at the top of the mountains and if the grass is green, Snowflake’s milk is lovely and sweet!

3 At a quarter to ten, Max always stopped
work and had a snack. He drank a glass of fresh milk. ‘Mmm, delicious!’ said Max. There were lots of marmots in the mountains. They played hide and seek. And there were birds, too. They sang in the trees. ‘Oh, look at the time! It’s almost midday and it’s time to go home,’ said Max. ‘It’s lunchtime and Caramel will be hungry.’

After lunch, Max and Caramel went for a long walk in the mountains. Max wore boots and a hat. At a quarter past four they came home. It was time for afternoon tea. They had tea, biscuits and sandwiches.

4 At half past seven Max prepared dinner. He was
hungry after a long, busy day. At half past eight he went to bed. Tomorrow he had to get up early. He had to go to the market to sell cheese. Every Wednesday, Max and Caramel went to the market. In spring it was usually warm, in autumn it was rainy, in summer it was hot and in winter it was very cold. That’s life in the mountains! Max lived with nature and the seasons.

Max loves the birds in the mountains. Make a birdhouse and you can watch the birds, too! You need • an empty carton • a pen • scissors • paint • a paintbrush • glue • small branches and pieces of bark • string • birdseed
1 Take an empty carton.

4 Glue branches and bark on the carton. Decorate your birdhouse.
5 Make two holes. Pass string through the holes.
6 Put birdseed in your birdhouse. Then hang your birdhouse on a tree.

Let’s act! [Max and Caramel are on stage. They are sleeping. The alarm clock rings.] RIIIIIING! max Caramel, it’s the alarm clock. It’s time to get up. caramel Good morning Max. It’s half past six. Yes, it’s time to get up. max I’ve got to take Snowflake to the mountains. [Snowflake arrives.] snowflake Hello friends. Where are we going this morning? max We’re going to the top of the mountain. snowflake Great! The grass is greener at the top of the mountain. max Let’s go. See you later, Caramel. [Caramel exits the stage. Max and Snowflake walk on stage.] max It’s a quarter to ten. It’s time for a snack. snowflake No problem, Max. You can have my delicious fresh milk. [Max drinks a glass of fresh milk.] Hey, look at the marmots. They’re playing hide and seek behind the rocks.

[Caramel enters the stage.] caramel Ah, you’re home. What are we going to do this afternoon, Max? max First, we’re going for a walk in the mountains, then we’ve got to make cheese. snowflake You need to go to bed early tonight. Tomorrow is Wednesday and it’s market day. max Yes, tomorrow we have to go to market to sell our cheese. Come on, Caramel. Let’s go for a walk. snowflake See you later. [Max and Caramel leave the stage.] [On Wednesday morning… ] max Come on, Caramel!
