Stage 2 A1

This story tells the adventure of two children. One is studious and interested in all scientific things. The other is energetic and sporty. Although they live next door to each other and go to the same school, they never speak... until one day something changes all that. Kim and Tony learn to appreciate each other’s skills and to bring these together to prevent a crime. Children learn through them that critical thinking and collaboration can solve problems and that you don’t have to be the same to be friends!

CHAPTER 1: Kim and Tony 2 This is Kim. She’s 9 years old. Her favourite

hobby is playing football, and she likes dancing and singing too. She loves all animals, especially her big furry brown cat called Simba!

2

Tony is 9 years old too. His favourite hobby is playing on the computer. He doesn’t like sports or dancing or singing. He hasn’t got a pet. He likes wild animals like elephants but he doesn’t like pets... Especially cats. Especially big furry brown cats!

You can see Tony and Kim are different! 3

3 Kim and Tony go to the same school. Tony

likes talking about his science projects but Kim doesn’t. Kim likes running and jumping and skipping but Tony doesn’t!

4

You can see Kim and Tony are very different! 5

4 Kim lives next door to Tony. Tony lives in a little

house with a tidy garden. He’s got a mum, a dad and one sister. After school, he always does his homework and then he plays computer games or reads comics. Kim lives with her mum, her grandma and two cousins in a big house with a very untidy garden. After school, she plays football (she’s in the school team) and sometimes she dances in her room.

6

Kim! Stop dancing and do your homework.

Kim and Tony don’t walk to school together and they don’t walk home together. In fact, they never talk to each other! 7

CHAPTER 2: In the break 5 One morning, Kim is late to school. The teacher

is angry. No playing in the playground for Kim today!

You can write a poem, ‘Being on time for school’!

A poem? Me?

8

6 It’s time for the break. Tony doesn’t go

to the playground.

Are you coming to play? No. I’m working on my robot.

9

7 Kim and Tony don’t talk. The window is open

and suddenly they hear three men talking. They are robbers! They’re talking about the school computers.

This is a good window to get into the school. Let’s come at night and get the computers.
