Bob, the streetcat who signs autographs*
On a day like any other Bob, a chubby* red cat, wanders* around the streets of London where he meets James, a sweet young busker*. And while James plays the guitar on a corner of Covent Garden, Bob sits down next to him to listen. The two become great friends and they have never been separated since then. With Bob, James has had such wonderful and exciting adventures that he decided to tell the stories in a new book, A street cat named Bob, which became an immediate best-seller*. On the day that the book was released, the pair* signed autographs for hours in some of the most famous bookshops in London: James with a pen and Bob with his paw!

ONE DIRECTION The members of this British-Irish band are already known and loved all over the world. Let’s find out more about One Direction. How it all began… Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Harry Styles and Zayn Malik make up this BritishIrish boy band, who began their musical careers by auditioning* as soloists* for the popular UK television programme, The X-Factor, in 2010. One Direction was born … However, none of singers qualified* for the “Boys”
category of the competition and one of the programme’s judges cleverly suggested that they form a group instead. The boys were given only 5 minutes to decide if they wanted to continue in the competition as a group. They answered unanimously*, “Yes!” and they went on to win third place in the 2010 X-Factor competition. … and it took the world by storm*! The boys immediately signed a record deal and, after the release of their first song, What makes you beautiful, they became famous all over the world. Their debut* album, Up all night, broke records in 2011 because it sold so quickly when it was released!
This month One Direction will play at the iTunes festival in London. The festival runs from 1st to 30th September and many other famous groups and musicians, including Usher, Jack White and Nora Jones, will be there too! The boys are planning a world tour for 2013 and they have already begun work on their second album in a recording studio in Sweden. When asked about their plans for the future, they said, “We just want to keep working hard and making sure we keep on* delivering the best we can and having fun and we’ll see what happens.”

\ REPORT Greg, the star of the book Diary of a Wimpy Kid, is a very shy and self-conscious* kid! But he has many fans! He has won our hearts with his misadventures; not only ours, but the heart of every single teenager in the world!
Diary of a Wimpy Kid* “This is a log-book*!” Gregory Heffley is an eleven-yearold boy in his first year at senior school. His mother, Susan, suggests that he writes a diary to record all of his thoughts and feelings. Greg only agrees to the diary because when he grows up and is rich and famous, he won’t have to waste time telling his life story to journalists. He insists that this is not a girly* diary full of emotions, it is a log-book of his journey through life! A wimpy kid called Greg Gregory calls himself a wimpy kid! In fact, he really isn’t physically strong and he’s not great at school either, even if he tries hard; he gets embarrassed around girls and he doesn’t know how to stand up to the school bully. His dad wants him to be more sporty and his mum never wastes a chance to teach him about good manners. His older brother picks on him* while his younger brother lets him take the blame for everything.

Everything he tries to do fails: his attempt to become the school treasurer turns into a disaster, just like his idea of making “ghost house” to try to scrape together* some money; not to mention that crazy idea of pretending to have a terrible infection* on his hands to impress the girls at school!
A wimpy 40-year old! The author, Jeff Kinney, is an American computer games designer who, just for fun, published Greg’s adventures in a blog in 2004. The blog immediately registered 70,000 readers a day. Jeff Kinney, who is 40 years old, says he is very lucky and owes the success of his books to his very own disappointments and failures as a teenager. “It’s because of them that the character of Greg was born! The secret is to try to laugh a little at our own misadventures!”
Diary of a Wimpy Kid is the best-selling book for teenagers of the last 5 years! It was published in 2007, and it became an immediate success all over the world. The book has even been translated into 21 languages! Since then, another 5 books have been published, all with the same great success.
Jeff Kinney’s books have also been made into three films: Diary of a Wimpy Kid in 2010 and Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules in 2011. In August 2012 the third sequel was released called Diary of a Wimpy Kid 3: Dog Days.

Tot Mail
Dear Lucy,
Dear Tot, My name is Lucy and I’m 11 years old. Since I was 6, my parents have made me do sports: swimming, gymnastics, tennis and volleyball. The problem is that I don’t like sport very much. I’m really lazy and I don’t like being inside, like at the gym and the swimming pool. But my mum doesn’t listen to me. Anyway, this year we’ve reached a compromise: I can choose the sport. But now I don’t know what to choose. Can you help me?
Lucy

Your parents are right! Sport is very important! But it’s also true that we’re not all good at heavy sports like tennis, swimming and volleyball. The trick is to find the best sport for you. You’re lazy and you don’t like being inside. Have you ever thought about horse-riding? It’s a really great sport: you don’t get too tired, you do it outside and you don’t do it alone. You do it with your horse! Horses are very sweet animals who love company. You could take care of the horse, brush him, feed him lots of carrots and love him very much. You’ll enjoy yourself, you’ll be outside and you’ll make a great friend. But be careful to choose an authorised riding school which treats its horses well! Let us know if you’ve finally discovered the sport for you!

You’ve got other things to think about; you’ve got a lot of things to do and you can’t waste time choosing colours which match, fashionable shoes and complicated outfits. It’s fine if someone wants to give you clothes as a gift. You have good taste, really, but you have more important and enjoyable things to do right now.
Mainly B’s Casual but tasteful. You sometimes wear some strange things. Not all days are the same. But you like changing your look with small details and you’re always careful to be tidy. Fashion? You’re interested in fashion but you only follow it to get ideas.
Mainly C’s You are always very smart. If you were queen/king, you would order your people never to leave the house unless they were wearing carefully matching, elegant outfits.
