Experienced teachers, assisted by counselors, teach the Three-Year-Old, Prekindergarten, Kindergarten and Grade One classes.Younger students explore the world through games, building, singing, stories, drama, sand and water play, cooking and arts and crafts. Much of the learning is a continuation of concepts introduced during the school year along with added outdoor fun. Children make use of our expansive outdoor environment. They learn to play cooperatively and to develop their large motor skills on the newly designed playgrounds and outdoor classroom patios. Children age three to grade one spend their day within a classroom setting. The morning program includes stories, math, science, music, arts and crafts, block building, sand table and outdoor water play. The morning program begins at 8:30 a.m. and runs until noon. Special classes include movement education, music and gardening. The children also participate in a weekly sing-a-long. Healthy mid-morning and afternoon snacks are provided for the children. Frequently Asked Questions What is the philosophy of Summer Explorations? Summer Explorations offers a program which is a unique blend of school and camp. We offer ageappropriate choices that are varied and stimulating. Summer Explorations is staffed by experienced and creative educators. We strive to challenge children intellectually, artistically and physically while promoting social growth and responsibility. Can I register my child for part of a session? The continuity of the program is important for the children and they build upon the skills they have learned throughout the session. The workshops for Grades 2 through 6 are planned on a two-week basis. There are one-week classes for Grades 7-9. It is disruptive to the whole class if students enter late or leave early from the class. In addition, there is no pro-rating of tuition for absences from camp. How can I register on-line? On-line registration is available for the Summer Explorations program for children age three through grade six.

Please go to www.elisabethmorrow.org and click on the link for on-line registration. You will receive confirmation via e-mail, but your registration will not be complete until your registration fee/ payment has been received. We will contact you if there are any questions or changes that need to be made regarding your on-line registration. Do I have to pick afternoon activities for my child? Afternoon activities for children in Grades 2 through 6 are chosen by the children each morning. There are signup sheets and the students choose two activities to participate in for that day. The choices vary day to day and children are encouraged to try out different things. Which grade level should my child register for? The children are registered according to the grade level they will be going into in September 2013. What are camper-staff ratios? Summer Explorations strives to maintain a low camper to staff ratio. We have certified teachers working with the children in the classrooms. Children in the Three-Year-Old Program through Grade 1 have two teachers. The workshops for children in Grades 2 through 6, range in size from 8-12 children. Lunch groups meet with two counselors and range in size from 1015 children. Afternoon activities have 10-16 students per class. For Grades 7-9, class size will range from 6-12 students per class. Is lunch included for the children? Children can bring their lunches from home. Or lunches can be ordered from Scholastic Culinary Services before each session for an additional charge. Healthy snacks are provided in the morning and afternoons.

28

How will my child get to and from camp? Summer Explorations serves students from a wide range of towns in Bergen County. Most children are brought and picked up by car. Some families also use car pools, which are arranged privately. We do not provide bus transportation, but are in contact with several bus companies that could provide bus transportation for an additional fee. All bus arrangements are handled through the bus company and the interested parties. What if I can’t pick my child up by 3:30 p.m.? Summer Explorations offers a child care program from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for children from Prekindergarten through Grade 6. The fee is $25 per day. Parents should contact the Summer Explorations Office to register their child for Child Care. Please see page 20 for more information on our Child Care Program. Is Summer Explorations “peanut-free? Summer Explorations is not peanutfree, however, we are peanut aware. Our snacks are peanut free and children with allergies are also encouraged to bring in their own snacks. We have two full time nurses on site and maintain a close contact with parents about allergies and other medical concerns. How do I get more information about Summer Explorations? Please contact the Summer Explorations Office at (201) 568-5566, ext. 7150, if you have additional questions about our program or would like to tour our facilities. Also, you can visit our web site at www.elisabethmorrow.org.
