Phillyjuniortour.com
The New PhillyJuniorTour.com On April 27th 2016, the Philadelphia Junior Tour debuted our new modernly styled and newly repackaged website. The communications department had been hard at work for the better part of the year trying to complete the project and launch before the start of the summer season. The new website is designed to be easy on the eyes, to be optimal for maneuverability and to be an updated form of communication and a useful resource for our parents, juniors and guests.
Along with the new website in 2016 is also the debut of the Philadelphia Junior Tour’s new Points Distribution system as well as the newly formatted College Series. Refer to our website for more information about these updated improvements or call/email the PJT office during business hours.
Mizuno Rehoboth Beach Series The Philadelphia Junior Tour’s first travel series of the season is the Rehoboth Beach Series. A Rules of Golf Reminder: Rule 3-3
A Rules of Golf Reminder: Rule 3-3: Doubt as to Procedure in Stroke Play Rule 3-3 was covered in last April’s Month in Review but it is such an important Rule to know we will cover it again as the 2016 season gets underway. In addition, Rule 3-3 was re-written in the Rules of Golf effective January 1, 2016. Most of the Rule functions the same way but there are a few slight changes for clarity. What’s it all about: Rule 3-3 comes in handy in stroke play when you come across a situation where you aren’t sure what you’re supposed to do and there are no rules officials around to help. How does it work? After you assess the situation and you aren’t sure what to do, before taking any further action (i.e. playing the shot, picking up a ball and taking a drop, etc.) you should* tell your fellow competitor you are going to play a second ball under Rule 3-3. You should* also tell him or her which ball you want to count if the Rules permit. Then, you will complete the hole with both golf balls. Afterwards, you must** report the facts of the situation to a member of the Committee before you return your scorecard. Even if you get the same score with both golf balls, failure to report the facts of the situation and that you played a second ball under Rule 3-3 will result in a disqualification. Rule 3-3 In Action: Mya’s ball lands near a fence that will interfere with her swing on her next shot. She isn’t sure if the fence is an immovable obstruction or if it defines out of bounds. Since Mya knows that if the fence does indicate out of bounds she would not get relief, Mya tells her fellow competitor that she is going to play a second ball under Rule 3-3. The original ball will be played as it lies and the second ball will be dropped
Following the round at scoring area Mya reports that she played a second ball under Rule 3-3 and she finds out that the fence did not indicate out of bounds. The ball that was played taking relief from the fence counts for her score. Had the fence indicated out of bounds, the original ball would have counted for her score. Why is Rule 3-3 Important? Rule 3-3 allows competitors to continue the round, with minimal impact on pace of play when no Rules officials are around to settle a doubtful situation. By playing a second ball under Rule 3-3, in most cases, a player will protect themselves from a penalty if an incorrect procedure is used. To read Rule 3-3 in full click here. *In USGA Rules talk “should” is a recommendation but you won’t incur a penalty if you don’t follow the recommendation **In USGA Rules talk “must” means you have to do take this action and if you don’t you will incur a penalty
A Rules of Golf Reminder: Rule 3-3 (cont.)
in the correct place to take relief from an immovable obstruction (Rule 24-2). Mya finds the nearest point of relief and drops the ball within one club length of that point, no closer to the hole. She tells her fellow competitors that she wants the second ball to Does this fence count if the Rules indicate out of bounds? Or is it an immovable obstruction? permit. She then Since I don’t know, I will use completes the hole Rule 3-3. with both golf balls.
