An emotional month...

The team here at Elite magazine were saddened by the news in the last month of the passing of Her Majesty The Queen, Elizabeth II and the emotional and moving funeral that followed.

Our thoughts are with the immediate family and anyone affected by the passing of our Monarch. Whilst it is, without doubt, a sad time it is also a time to look forward as we have King Charles III taking the throne from his mother with the promise to carry on her undevouted service and we wish him all the best for the future.

This countries ongoing issues with energy prices surging and set to get worse, petrol prices still very high and a general cost of living crisis, along with the ongoing conflict in the Ukraine make this a very difficult time for the new King.

With a new Prime Minister and a new King its time to move on with making Britain Great again. If you can, please keep donating to the Red Cross appeal at www.redcross.org.uk/ukraine

Have fun and as always, Be Kind!

Replace 2 interior cracked panels and deal with condensation

The fitter, Andrew, was extremely friendly and polite. He removed his shoes without being asked. He let me know what he was going to do and the work was carried out very efficiently with little mess. We have another window which will also need some repairs and I will definitely call Mr Misty again.

We are thrilled with the work and the customer service provided by Josh. He was so tidy and the glazing looks so good. We have had acoustic glass fitted and as we live by the road it has made a huge difference. We have had lots of positive comments. We would highly recommend Mr Misty for secondary glazing.

Youngsters swap football boots for running spikes in charity challenge

Young footballers rallied friends and family to raise hundreds of pounds for a Foundation by organising their own fun run.

Eight and nine-year-olds from Bergholt Heath Youth Football Club ran 1.5km around the village for the Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation.

And in a touching tribute to Tom and his charity, which is based in the same village of West Bergholt, the club has also made the Foundation its t-shirt sponsor for the season.

Chris James, Manager of Bergholt Heath Youth Football

Club, said: “Seeing the kids play week in week out in a shirt with the Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation’s name is quite poignant, especially as Tom used to play for the team himself.

“We spoke to the children about the charity in an age appropriate way; how it helps fund research and help young people with cancer and they all wanted to do something for them.

“They roped their brothers and sisters in to take part in the fun run, and of course the coaches ran with them too. We closed the roads and in the end they raised £1,100 for

the Foundation. They really got into it, having their own competitions as to who could run the fastest or the furthest. It was great to see.”

Mr James said: “We all wanted to do more. To see the children have such a sense of purpose and to know we could help the Foundation was just amazing.”

Nikki Bowdidge, CEO and Founder of the Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation, said: “We are always blown away by the amazing support we receive. It takes a special group of people who are so young to think of others and raise money for them. Bergholt Heath Youth Football Club should be incredibly proud of what they have achieved. We can’t thank the team enough.”

Littlegarth – the ideal independent primary school experience

Littlegarth is a non-selective independent preparatory school for children between the ages of 2½ and 11 situated in the beautiful Stour Valley overlooking the village of Nayland.

Littlegarth prides itself on preparing children thoroughly for the rigours of entrance exams to grammar and selective independent schools whilst embracing a broad and exciting curriculum. Specialist teachers offer guidance in key subjects and the children achieve extremely high standards in a wide range of activities.

The school has been judged as ‘Outstanding’ in all four categories in the school’s latest ISI inspection and the excellent reputation the school

has for academic success was highlighted in the Standard Inspection Report which commented, “The overall achievement of the pupils is excellent, because of the exemplary attitude to learning by the pupils, who approach every task with delightful enthusiasm” and “The evidence from the inspection is that the pupils make exceptional progress when compared with those of similar above-average ability”

8 www.elitemagazine.co.uk

Littlegarth children also achieve excellent standards in music, art and drama and in recent years sports teams have achieved unbeaten seasons and have won regional and national titles in major sports. Children of all abilities acquire a passion for a wide variety of activities inside and outside the classroom and the school works hard to feed that enthusiasm to ensure that each child leaves Littlegarth a confident member of a successful team.

Littlegarth recently received a visit from The Good Schools guide and the glowing review resulting from this visit and subsequent interviews with parents can be found on the School’s website.

Despite the huge difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the children continued to receive their full curriculum and results in external exams have seen 11 children achieve places at our

local grammar schools while all children gained places at the independent schools of their choice. In the past four years, more than half of the Year 6 leavers have been awarded scholarships to senior independent schools with 80 children gaining over 120 scholarship awards. Head, Kathy Uttley is delighted with these excellent results; ‘The children and staff worked extremely hard in a very difficult year and we are very proud of the achievements of all our children. They really enjoy supporting each other and children of all ability levels feel that they are making a valuable contribution to the success of this very exciting school’.

A warmer home can save you money

Improving our home in time for the winter months ahead has long been something we have done to make sure our family is kept warm.

This year there should be an even more important reason to make those all-important home improvements – to save money on your bills.

Steve Rawding, Sales and Marketing Director at leading South East home improvement company SEH BAC, says energy efficiency is something homeowners are now thinking about more, particularly with energy bills rising sharply.

“Aesthetics has historically been the most important thing

for consumers when getting home improvements but that is changing and how they perform from an energy saving standpoint is now a major consideration,” said Steve.

With experts forecasting the October energy price cap could rise by up to 78%, taking the average annual energy bill to a staggering £3,500, and another 4% rise in energy prices in the first quarter of next year too, the scale and extent of the challenges facing households is set to get even tougher.

“It means that homeowners need to think seriously about reducing their energy spend and their bills to cope,” said Steve.

The good news for homeowners is that upgrading their windows and doors is the most instantly rewarding way of keeping the heat in and energy proofing a home.

Windows and exterior doors are vulnerable points for heat to escape or the cold to enter and for most houses, windows typically account for 10% of total heat lost.

“Improving the thermal performance of your home will increase your home’s comfort and reduce energy consumption,” added Steve.

Keeping those energy bills down while enhancing your home’s energy efficiency is cheaper than you think and to help SEH BAC is offering up to 40% off windows, doors, conservatories and extensions, with an option to buy now and pay nothing until 2023.

With more than 50 years’ experience installing to homes in Essex and Suffolk.

SEH BAC is one of the longest running home improvement companies in the UK

Stoke by Nayland Resort marks 50th Anniversary with Gala dinner

It was a very big night for the Stoke by Nayland Resort on Saturday 10th September when the family-owned venue celebrated the 50th Anniversary of its Golf Club with a gala dinner in the Devora Suite.

The evening began with a welcome by Matt Manning, newly appointed Managing Director of the Stoke by Nayland Resort, followed by a tribute to Her Majesty the Queen by Susanna Rendall.

Then Susanna, Group Managing Director of the Boxford Group, and Executive Chairman of the Stoke by Nayland Resort, briefly covered the 50 year journey for the venue which has grown from a modest golf club into the impressive resort that we see today, with 80 bedrooms, spa,

restaurants, banqueting suites and lodges.

Her speech was preceded by a remarkable short video taken from a 1971 Anglia TV documentary. Many guests hadn’t ever heard the voices of Bill and Devora before (Bill died in 1979 and Devora in 1999).

Alan Line, a past Club Captain and Veteran’s Captain, then gave a humorous account of being a longstanding member of Stoke by Nayland.

The guest speaker was Sir Eric Peacock, an international entrepreneur who was Chairman of the family’s Boxford Group and SbN Resort for the past 9 years.

Finally Susanna’s sisters and fellow directors, Carmella Meyer and Tamara Unwin

both spoke, and then presented Susanna and their brother Jonathan Loshak with portraits to acknowledge their substantial contributions to the business over the past 50 years: Jonathan had managed the Golf Club from 1972 to 1992, and Susanna has been Group MD since that time.

Susanna Rendall said “We are really delighted that so many guests were able to join us to celebrate this landmark occasion.

Our parents Bill and Devora had a 50 year plan starting with the creation of a club where everyone was welcomed to come and enjoy playing golf in beautiful countryside, as well as benefit from a lively social environment where they could relax and enjoy good food and drink with friends. We are now eagerly looking forward to the next 50 years!”
