Welcome to the August / September 2024 issue of Supplier Magazine. Inside this issue you will find our annual Eco and Sustainability feature where our good friends at GECA discuss why a sustainable future requires a holistic approach and acknowledgment of the interconnectedness between the environment, people, and economic outcomes. Explaining that as sustainability increasingly becomes the baseline for, business as usual, there are readily available and practical resources to support businesses as they navigate this much-needed shift.
Also, in this issue Philip Ashley interviews Aaron Crees of Jobman to discuss all things business. They pose the question, “How do I do better?” Claiming the prime ingredient for long-term success lies in making strategic decisions, managing and using resources wisely, and maximizing efficiency. A really interesting read.

Trade Fairs and New Product
Manufacturers serious about trends, products, services and new ideas see significant advantages in attending trade shows. With the future of AWISA not yet clear, major trade shows in Germany, Italy and to a lesser extent USA have taken on greater importance to businesses seeking to stay ahead of the competition.
A trade fair is an open playing field. Your full choice of products is available to compare, without the constraints you face when you attend an open day or seek information from companies you feel might be able to supply a product that meets all your needs. With AWISA gone for the foreseeable future, new
products that could be important to your business will only be offered from suppliers you already deal with, or from digital or print trade media and this depends on what the suppliers choose to promote. In short, you may not be getting the information that matters to you.
Recent trade events, however, are still recovering after the recent pandemic, and some major suppliers have chosen to seek other means to promote their products, most likely due to the high cost of exhibiting at a major trade fair, and also possibly because of lower visitor numbers, again a result of the pandemic. The interzum and Ligna shows in Germany last year and Xylexpo in Milan, Italy have all suffered from major suppliers
holding back, and low visitor numbers. Undoubtably this situation will improve because, in spite of the digitalization of information, people do business with people, relationships are important.
Recent trade events, however, are still recovering after the recent pandemic, and some major suppliers have chosen to seek other means to promote their products...
Supplier reported August last year that although exhibitor and visitor numbers were down, both interzum and Ligna (according to the organisers) ‘exceeded expectations.’
SANDING MADE EASY!
The Biesse Opera R is the only robotic sanding machine specifically designed for shaker doors. The automatic scanner works in conjunction with a robotic sanding arm to get a perfect and consistent finish on both shaker style and flat panels.
-Exceptional finish quality
- Can sand the component 'along the grain', regardless of orientation
This probably meant that the organisers thought it would be worse than it turned out to be. Certainly, the halls were either vacant or reduced in size, and exhibitors were more cautious in their spending; but given the major suppliers all contend for top spot, it's unlikely that one or two will abandon these shows entirely and the German shows to be held in 2025 should show signs of recovery.
Exhibitors…and Visitors are down
More recently, the 28th edition of Xylexpo held in Milan concluded May 24th and again, organisers claimed, ‘more than satisfactory results’ but with only 11,000 attendees, the fair attracted little more than Australia’s AWISA. Actually, if you don’t want to stand in line or make appointments to see a rep, Xylexpo is a pretty good overseas event. Exhibition Director Dario Corbetta said, “We must admit we expected lower figures, considering the difficult period for trade fairs, but it seems Xylexpo’s long tradition has once again shown its attraction power.”
We reported on the Holz Handwerk show in Nuremberg in the May-June edition. The other fair some Australians attend is IWF in Atlanta, USA. Held in August every second year, Chris Hacker, 2024 IWF show chairman said, “People come to IWF to see what’s new,
to see how they can grow their business. In a four-day period, you get to experience hundreds of different machines and products, exhibitor booths, and educational seminars.” IWF boasted an estimated 1,100 exhibitors with upwards of 27,000 visitors, still well short of the 80,000 at Ligna in Germany last year. Still, if you are looking for a tax-deductible trip to the States….
New Technologies
One of the benefits of visiting an international trade fair is that you will be one of the first Australian manufacturers to see any new technology. The major suppliers always have a drawcard at the major trade fairs and will often hold back their release to coincide with a fair. Suppliers are now releasing products as they are available. One new interesting product that comes from SCM is the ‘scm maker,’ a portable and flexible numerically controlled milling machine for large-scale projects. The product is called ‘Goliath” and is produced by Springa, a startup that simplifies access to digital manufacturing tools for craftspeople and professionals. z

Benchtop suppliers, read your future
Bid farewell to messy sketches and order sheets. ‘Benchtops.Online’ is evolving benchtop ordering for the modern world.
This game-changing software brings your benchtop offering online: your clients create quotes in real-time within your uniquely branded portal, slashing admin time and reducing human error.
Benchtops.Online is the latest innovation from the team behind Cabinetry.Online, notable for allowing cut-to-size manufacturers to handle client orders online. After years of development, this feature-rich platform now allows manufacturers to manage their own online benchtop store, streamlining the process for themselves and their customers.
Your platform, branding, pricing With extensive control over branding, colours, and logos, businesses present a seamless, familiar experience for clients.
Manufacturers also specify available materials, thicknesses and cost unit of measurement (m² or l/m basis). This ensures full control over the offering to customers and allows you to define pricing rules to match your business requirements.
Intuitive and visual display for clients
Within the ordering system, an intuitive interface provides real-time visualisation of the user’s specifications and changes. Details like edging, notches, and joins are shown in the benchtop preview.
Customers can manipulate corners and edges to add corner caps or accommodate existing design restrictions like columns or bump-outs into window recesses.
Intuitive joins
The different benchtop joins dynamically adjust to the dimensions of the benchtop. If the benchtop’s adjacent depths are different measurements, a dog leg mitre (also known as Z mitre) is automatically applied. Other join options, based on the parameters of the benchtop, will also be displayed. The customer chooses the join that best suits their application.
This logic has been created utilising in-depth industry knowledge and best practices.
Post-formed edging options
If you offer post-formed options, the module ensures they cannot be applied on sides where a join is intersecting, or on adjacent edges (end rolls) unless they have also been corner clipped. This automated logic eliminates the guesswork for customers and prevents user input errors.
Instant pricing for clients
Once a client has saved their benchtop, it
is added to their cart, where they see an instant quote. A sophisticated algorithm combines the client’s specifications with the manufacturer's pricing and material settings to ensure not only speed but accuracy in pricing.
This is a stunning time-saver for clients and manufacturers. Manufacturers no longer need to dedicate hours to quoting an order they may not receive and can provide the unique selling point of instant quoting and faster turnaround times for clients.
PDF overview of benchtop quotes
Once the quote is completed, a PDF overview is created to present clients with a finished look of their benchtop and a simplified layout of all details in their order.
By leveraging this online system, benchtop manufacturers can capitalise on the growth of e-commerce and enhance their competitiveness. This solution also serves as a powerful marketing tool, allowing manufacturers to showcase their product offerings efficiently.
If you are ready to streamline your processes and enhance customer experience, contact Benchtops.Online at hello@benchtopsonline. co or call 1300 783 997. z
High-tech surfaces for greater climate protection
Recent developments in powder coating technolgies has enabled GRASS to make considerable environamental improvements in this area. New system technologies and optimised production processes in the supply chain enable a total CO2 saving of 1,476 tonnes per year.
What does this mean for our customers and the environment?
By utilising a product that has been processed using this latest high-tech coating technology, just 1.9 kitchens containing 15 drawers in each, we can save as much CO2 as a tree absorbs per year.
According to WLTP*, the average CO2 emissions of a car equates to 116 g/km. By optimising the production processes for coatings, we can reduce CO2 emissions by an amount corresponding to 12.7 million kilometres or 289 laps around the earth by car per year.
Similarly, one beech tree binds 12.5 kg of CO2 per year. The total CO2 savings of 1,476 tonnes therefore corresponds to 118,000 trees.
The coating process exclusively uses solventfree, energy-saving, low-temperature powder coatings with significantly reduced curing and throughput times. Furthermore, loss of coating material can be largely avoided by recovering coating powder that is not retained on the product, known as overspray. This saves energy, resources and protects the environment.

Lapitec: a material that cares for the environment
Free of crystalline silica, 100% natural and reversible process, for the health of the planet and people.
Respect for the planet is the value that has always guided every choice made by the Veneto-based company Lapitec, even before it was founded in 1989. At the basis of more than 20 years of research and testing that led it to develop the eponymous material for architecture and interior design, there was in fact from the very beginning the idea of creating a surface that could combine aesthetics, performance and above all ecology.
Hence the unique features of this material known as sintered stone produced through a mixture of natural minerals, first melted at over 1,500°C, then subjected to a patented
vacuum vibro-compression technology and finally consolidated by sintering. A 100% natural composition, in which no heavy oils, resins, digital prints or other petroleum derivatives are used.
The result is a full-body surface, identical at every point of its thickness, pore-free, ultraresistant and fully recyclable. The absence of chemical components makes it possible to break down the material at the end of its life and transform it into new slabs in an entirely
reversible process. Furthermore, as all the raw materials are non-toxic, Lapitec produces no gases and emits no hazardous volatile organic compounds (VOC), as attested by Greenguard and Greenguard Gold certificates.
Thanks to its special formula, Lapitec is a material that is safe for both the environment and for workers. It does not contain crystalline silica, thereby preventing the risk of silicosis, a lung disease caused by the inhalation of this substance during the processing phases. z

Go digital with Jobman
Jobman centralises your manufacturing data, providing excellent business visibility with powerful time-saving features
Talking Business
Many business owners spend sleepless nights worrying if there is enough money coming in to pay the bills. Working hard for years with little to show for it can feel like Groundhog Day. It could be time to start asking yourself, “How can I do better?”
Every athlete competing at the Olympic Games has a coach to help them perform, help them excel, and achieve their peak potential. The same applies to your business. A business coach will help you unlock the full potential of your business by identifying your mistakes and inefficiencies. A coach will uncover business practices that cost you money and time, issues that are holding your business back, issues preventing you from achieving the true potential of your company.
Jobman is a company that is partnering with business coaches who recognise the benefits of an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) in
Work Smarter, Not Harder
manufacturing. Software systems like these that are tailored to suit your business, provide vital insight into your operational, customer and financial data. Jobman software gathers data from every stage of your kitchen and bathroom cabinet or furniture production process in a single user-friendly interface, giving you the information you need to move your business to the next level while also improving your quality of life.
The Question we Should be Asking
Supplier Magazine recently had a long and informative chat with Aaron Crees of Jobman, a company that attracts five new clients a week who have asked the question, “How do I do better?” These companies have recognised that the prime ingredient for long-term success lies in making strategic decisions, managing and using resources wisely, and maximizing efficiency. They recognise that true sustainable success isn't about how hard you work; it's about how smart you work.
Aaron is a cabinet maker by trade with experience in TAFE teaching and providing software solutions for the trade since 2009. Ben Hitchcock was tasked with the first iteration of Jobman software in 2008 as a software programmer who saw the merits of this type of software. It was then marketed at the interim 2009 AWISA trade show in Melbourne, with a very positive response.
In 2014 a partnership was formed between Aaron and Ben, where they took over ownership of the business and started putting a lot of energy into solving the issues facing cabinet making industry. The business grew quickly following the last AWISA fair in 2018 and now employs a large and experienced team of professionals. Aaron says, “We don’t settle for mediocrity and always strive to improve our processes to make your business more profitable with the help of powerful tools. If you’re not moving forward, you’re actually moving backwards.”
You may be able to survive in business without the help of a Business Coach, but expert advice from one can help you thrive. Jake Maring of Superior Cabinets and Stone in Albany says, “After six years in business

we felt like we’d hit a ceiling. Everything we did was on a job-per-job basis. Jobman allowed us to blow away the ceilings that were holding us back and now we run on a schedule that has improved our relationship with our suppliers, raised our level of professionalism and allowed us to produce a high-end product that makes a better profit.”
You have likely heard the phrase, “You don’t know what you don’t know.” It’s an intentionally redundant phrase that points to the fact that we can only work with the information that we have. Aaron says, “A question every cabinet making business should ask of themselves is how do I do it better? You need to get the business basics right; you need to know what your business is costing you, where is all your time going. Are you working harder and not seeing any growth? Are you just keeping the doors open or are you achieving real growth? The size of your business is not always a measure of your profitability, and a great cabinetmaker does not mean it’s a great business.
A Look in the Mirror
“Look in the mirror and ask if you would do business with yourself, put yourself in the shoes of your customers, your employees and your suppliers. Are you transparent? Do you deliver on your promises? You need to remove the blame game and start thinking about what you can do to improve your business and one step you can take is to seek professional advice, and once you’ve done that, act on it.” Aaron said.
In Canadian clinical psychologist Jordan Peterson’s self-help book ‘12 Rules for Life’ Peterson says, “Set your house in perfect order before you criticize the world” and “Assume the person you are listening to might know something you don’t.” Both these ‘rules’ apply here. Stop blaming everything else and take control of your business. Seeking advice and acting on that advice will lead to a transparent overview of
what you are doing and the steps you should follow to achieve the quality of life you expected when you started the business.
Chris James, Executive Director at NORTH Link reports that on average, estimated operational costs including government charges, gas and electricity prices, Insurance costs, transport, and skilled labour have increased by 30 per cent across all areas of their business over the past eighteen months. An ERP system like Jobman will identify these ongoing and often changing costs in real time, allowing you the opportunity to make the changes you need to stay profitable. Jobman is your key to stability, productivity, and growth in an ever-changing industry.
“A question every cabinet making business should ask of themselves is how do I do it better? You need to get the business basics right; you need to know what your business is costing you, where is all your time going.”
Measure Your Business
One Jobman user was able to identify the tyre-kickers, put their prices up 30% and attract a higher-level clientele. They left the rat race where price was the determining factor in whether or not you got a job that was most likely not worth your while. Aaron said, “As cabinetmakers (in general) we measured twice and cut once, but over time we forgot to measure how our businesses were performing. When we started out, we delivered on our promises but over time we often failed to understand how our time allocation was divided. Our promises and our word meant less and less.”
Do you really know where your business is?
Your yearly visit to your accountant may show you are making some money, but not where that profit is coming from, nor what you could be doing to improve your bottom line, or what parts of your business are losing money.
Jobman is a key to stability, productivity, and growth in an ever-changing industry. Jobman is a tool, just like CAD software or a CNC machine, it is a vital part of a successful manufacturing system. One example of the value of Jobman is the ability to produce accurate, timely quotes. Prompt and accurate quotes return more profitable orders. Consider that if you spend three hours on a quote and do ten quotes a week, and because you take so much time, the job may already have gone to someone else! Aaron says Jobman already has the answers, you just need to start asking questions.
The Real Questions
What do you really want from your business? What are you doing that is good? What are you doing that’s costing you? What is it about your business that you don’t know and how are you going to find out what these things are? How are you going to make the changes you need to turn your good business into a great business? But most importantly, are you working ‘in’ the business or are you working ‘on’ the business? There is a difference and maybe that’s the first question you should be asking. z

Training
Article by Philip Ashley
Young people are much less interested in starting an apprenticeship than they used to. In addition, only around 55% of apprentices actually complete an apprenticeship, and 77% of all workplace complaints come from apprentices. Despite throwing over a billion dollars at it, the apprenticeship system is in a lot of trouble.
Trouble in Paradise
T.S. Eliot once wrote, “Most of the trouble in the World is caused by people wanting to be important.” Case in point, in September 2022, the Prime Minister announced $1 billion in joint Federal-State funding for fee-free TAFE in 2023 and accelerated delivery of 465,000 fee-free TAFE places. This year’s federal budget included $265 million over four years to support the employment of more apprentices and trainees. Despite 1.25 billion dollars in funding, Australia’s apprenticeship system is, in my opinion, in tatters.
As a past trade teacher and teaching centre manager at a Victorian TAFE College, and with extensive connections to industry through my 800-odd trade related articles written over 30 years, I believe I am well-placed to offer an opinion on the state of trade training and apprenticeships in Australia. It saddens me that this once proud vocational pursuit is a shadow of what it used to be, and is very likely not to get any better, no matter how much money the government throws at it.
Are Dollars a Solution?
And maybe that’s the point. Throwing money at a problem is something governments on both sides do when they either don’t
In my opinion
understand the issues or aren’t actually interested in finding out what the problems really are. Yes, reviews have been conducted and ‘conclusions’ reached, but how much of that ‘research’ actually comes from industry and the TAFE sector, and how much is unbiased? Given that modern government is most likely about getting re-elected, tossing around some taxpayer dollars seems like a quick fix to make the problem go away, at least until the next election.
As long as I can remember there have been apprenticeship incentive schemes. You would think that if money was a real solution, the problem would have been fixed decades ago. But here we are in 2024 with another quarter of a billion dollars as a ‘solution’ to a skills shortage that will have a real detrimental impact to the country and its population.
A Supplier article in the last issue reported, “Some employers have queried whether the additional amount will make much of a difference when it comes to apprentice and trainee recruitment and retention” and I heartily agree with that sentiment.
‘Perceived’ Issues
On 19th February 2024, the Minister for Skills and Training, the Hon Brendan O’Connor MP, announced the establishment of the Strategic Review of the Australian Apprenticeships Incentive System. In this ‘review’ it was noted that ‘The Intergenerational Report 2023 identifies 5 forces shaping this transformation. These are an ageing population; climate change and net zero goals; rising demand for care and support services; and geopolitical risk and fragmentation (more jobs in defence).
Technological and digital transformation was the fifth ‘force’ affecting the transformation but surprisingly (or not so) was hardly mentioned in the text that followed. In fact, I checked it twice and couldn’t find any further discussion. Plenty about aged care, the climate, social services and the possibility of future conflict but next to nothing about the actual trades and the issues affecting the uptake of apprenticeships and the maintenance of Australia’s skills base.
Training
It appears all the ‘talking points’ were covered but any factors affecting industry were a much too difficult an issue to explore. For instance, ‘encouraging greater gender balance across industries’ seemed to be an issue worth exploring. It appears that the statistics showing that 92% of apprenticeship commencements in cabinet making are male and 96% of childcare workers are female was something to be concerned about, and rectifying this would see an improvement in the Status Quo. I doubt this is because either of these occupations are not accessible for a particular sex but are more about what people want to do.
Influences
A young person’s decision to undertake an apprenticeship is subject to a range of social influences. One study showed that young people in the lowest quartile of socioeconomic status were 4 times more likely to want to be technicians and trade workers. Does this indicate that if you are poor you are more likely to seek an apprenticeship? School leavers are also influenced by how schools present postsecondary choices to young people. Given that teachers are provided with only a small amount of time and resources to advise on vocational choices, leading them to
provide limited advice on any but the most well-known trades; maybe government can start here?
Some studies suggest careers advisers and teachers promote apprenticeships and traineeships as a career option only for low-achieving students. For example, Misko et al. (2007) note that, ‘A lack of encouragement from teachers and counsellors can act as a potential barrier to greater interest in trade apprenticeships among school students.’ Categorising students by their perceived ability levels, the authors found that teachers were more likely to suggest to students that were ‘performing not so well or not so well at all’ to undertake trade apprenticeships.
So, apprenticeships are for dummies?
Pardon the expression but in an age where cabinet manufacturers use high level CAD and CNC equipment in most enterprises, shouldn’t policy makers be aware of this? Way back in in 2004, Prime Minister John Howard spoke of Australia’s “Deep and unfortunate cultural prejudice against people going into traditional trades,” citing the nation’s obsession with “The relentless ideal of everybody who leaves school having to receive a university education.”
The Relevance of Trade Training
While a trade was once viewed as a noble profession, the fact, in my opinion is that young people no longer see a trade as an attractive vocation. We are in the ‘I want it now’ generation and three years at a low wage is no longer an appealing prospect. It is a fact that only 55% of apprentices actually complete their training, and 77% of people who seek help with workplace issues are apprentices. Maybe we should start right there and find out why these numbers are so high. A billion dollars may attract more young people but will 45% of those extra people also fail to complete? That sounds to me like $450 million wasted dollars!
In 2023 54% of employers said the skills taught was not relevant and 49% reported poor quality training. This is the result of the decline in TAFE where once a teacher had to take up teacher training but now TAFE colleges employ more sessional staff at lower overall costs to the college, but with no teaching skills and in many cases, poor trade skills. 34% of employers said they train to their own requirements and no wonder. Mr Albanese said his government, “Will ensure full employment, productivity growth and equal opportunities for women are central objectives of its economic and fiscal policy.” First though, government will need to decide what a woman actually is.
Do we have some answers that do not involve a billion dollars? First, get some of that money to careers counsellors so they can do their job properly. Second, make sure TAFE trainers are the best we can get, stop TAFE colleges from cost cutting when it comes to teacher quality. Third, an advertising campaign would go a long way to getting young people at least thinking about a trade occupation. And finally, if 45% of people abandon their apprenticeship as the figures suggest, maybe spending some of that billion dollars could identify why that is the case and put measures in place to reverse that trend. z

As humans, we like to compartmentalise, but this does not reflect the reality of the natural world or the impacts of our global supply chains. When we hear the term 'sustainability', the environment is often front of mind. However, a sustainable (or, better yet, regenerative) future requires a holistic approach and acknowledgment of the interconnectedness between the environment, people, and economic outcomes. Positive climate action is not possible, for example, if your strategy doesn't consider the social impacts or health issues relating to chemicals of concern.
In the past, sustainability was also couched simply as a unique selling proposition, but we've moved past that to sustainability being core to the success of every industry. Increasingly, this will continue to evolve into sustainability becoming baseline business as usual. The good news is that there are readily available and practical resources to support businesses as they navigate this muchneeded shift.
Transparency is the new green Greenwashing harms brand value and can undermine the credibility of the whole industry, creating scepticism around environmental claims. It can also expose you to serious legal risks. In December 2023, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) published eight principles to help businesses ensure that environmental marketing and advertising claims about their products or services are clear and accurate and do not mislead consumers.
The principles comprise the ACCC's final guidance on environmental claims, which sets out their view of good practice when making environmental claims and making businesses aware of their obligations under the Australian Consumer Law. ACCC Acting Chair Catriona Lowe states, "As we transition to a greener economy, we need businesses to drive market innovation by investing in and choosing products and services with the lowest environmental impact."
"For consumers to drive change, they need to be able to trust that the products and services they are buying genuinely are sustainable, and businesses making real efforts to deliver benefits should not be disadvantaged by rivals making disingenuous claims."
What you exclude can be just as meaningful (or misleading) as what you include—for example, claiming that your product is made from 100% recycled plastic yet failing to be upfront that plastic only makes up a small portion of the product's total ingredients.
By following these principles, businesses can more confidently make meaningful claims that their clients and consumers can
understand and trust while avoiding a breach of Australian Consumer Law. The ACCC also highlights the use of third-party certifications to provide credibility to claims. When selecting a certification scheme, the ACCC recommends choosing one that is independent, transparent, reputable, and robust.
At GECA, we're proud to run Australia's only non-profit lifecycle ecolabel program, following ISO 14024 principles for global best practices. Our 27 product and service standards—including furniture and fittings, panel boards, and hard surfacing—even have specific criteria stating that any environmental claims made beyond the scope of our standard by the manufacturer are verifiable. When customers see the GECA ecolabel, they know that the product or service has undergone a transparent, independent, third-party assessment against science-based criteria relevant to its category.
Australia's circular economy continues to accelerate Federal and State governments, as well as international bodies such as the European Union and the United Nations, are making it clear that current approaches to business as usual are no longer an option. A circular economy is an integral part of this essential paradigm shift, including incentivising (and sometimes mandating) the design and manufacture of products to replenish and regenerate our environment and support positive social outcomes.
Research by Planet Ark's Australian Circular Economy Hub found that 88% of Australian senior decision-makers think the circular economy will be critical to their business's future. Businesses that do not adopt a circular approach will be left behind and are unlikely to qualify for procurement in significant projects, particularly within the commercial built environment.
In April 2024, the Circular Economy Ministerial Advisory Group presented its interim report to the Environment Minister, Hon Tanya Plibersek MP. The report outlines recommendations across six areas: national policy, targets and indicators, economics, net zero, product design and consumption, and the built environment. The 15-member Advisory Group highlighted third-party certification schemes as enablers of behaviour change.
The Better Buildings Partnership (BBP), of which GECA is a proud supporting member, in collaboration with Aurecon and the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA), has designed and delivered a Circular Fitout Toolkit for Offices. The toolkit combines circular fitout fundamentals with practical design guidelines to equip anyone involved in a circular fitout with everything they need.
And in a groundbreaking development, on 22 May, the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) released three new international standards for a circular economy. The new standards provide a complete toolkit for achieving a circular economy, covering everything from principles to measurement.
These new tools, used together with existing frameworks such as the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and lifecycle ecolabels, provide companies with a formidable blueprint to create a better future for people and planet, alongside better business outcomes.

Timber: A sustainable resource with Porta Contours
Timber is a standout sustainable building material. Its production consumes minimal energy compared to materials like concrete and steel, resulting in lower carbon emissions. Known as embodied carbon, the energy efficiency of timber makes it an ideal low-emission substitute.
Timber is renewable, recyclable, and energyefficient to produce. Importantly, timber acts as a carbon store, playing a vital role in reducing overall carbon emissions. The cyclical process of managing forests for timber involves continuous harvest and regeneration, ensuring a sustainable supply over time.
• Carbon Sequestration: Trees naturally capture and store carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, making timber a valuable ally in the fight against climate change.
• Carbon Storage: Timber products continue to store carbon throughout their lifecycle. Whether in the form of paper, timber panels, or even wood in landfill, the carbon captured by trees remains locked away.
• Emerging Technologies: Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) captures carbon emissions from sources like power plants and stores them in geological formations. Timber, as a biogenic carbon store, complements these technologies by naturally sequestering carbon in biomass.
By choosing Porta Contours Feature Grade Tasmanian Oak lining boards, you enhance the beauty of your space and make an environmentally conscious choice. Embrace the natural elegance of timber and contribute to a greener future with Porta.

Building a sustainable future, one tree-free board at a time
The Woodpanel Centre has partnered with American company, ModernMill, to bring their innovative ACRE material to the Australian market.
Modern Mill is leading the way toward a more sustainable future, one tree-free board at a time. Their award winning building material, ACRE, is the ideal alternative to wood for countless exterior and interior applications. It’s beautiful, easy to work with, easy to care for and better for the environment. ACRE is a sustainable choice that does not sacrifice performance.
A key component in the manufacture of ACRE is rice hulls, the hard protective outer covering on a grain of rice. These hulls are removed from the grain prior to consumption, becoming a byproduct of the growing process. Modern-Mill’s manufacturing facility accepts upwards of 3000 tonnes of rice hulls per year, which would have otherwise been destined for landfill.
With rice hulls naturally storing a large percentage of carbon by weight, using rice hulls in the production of ACRE embodies this carbon and prevents it’s release into the atmosphere through burning or decomposition in landfill. Production of ACRE is also calculated to have replaced the felling of 130 000 acres of tropical rainforest or 38 000 trees from softwood plantations in satisfying demand for building products.
ACRE products are free of phenolic plasticisers such as bisphenol A, formaldehyde, and adhesives, to maximise installation potential in sensitive environments.
The environmental credentials of ACRE have been recognised in America, with the product being awarded as Green Builder Magazine’s 2022 sustainable product of the year and the awarding of Clean Air Gold certification. ACRE can also make a positive contribution to new construction or major renovations with points assigned to it in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design scheme.
Not just sustainable, ACRE is durable. It is water and weather resistant and will not rot, even when installed on the ground or in contact with water. Nor will ACRE splinter, as can be the case with natural timber products. Containing no timber content, ACRE is not a target of pests such as termites.
Where many wood alternatives imprint wood-looking grains on their surface, the rice hulls in ACRE deliver the look and feel of natural timber products. When you pick up a piece of ACRE, you will instantly feel the warmth and grain that up until now was only found in wood, perfect for incorporating biophilic design elements in projects.
Suited for a wide range of applications, ACRE sheet goods are the perfect medium for executing your ideas. This revolutionary material can be cut, curved, shaped and moulded to fit countless applications, both exterior and interior. ACRE is also thermoformable, lending itself to endless opportunities for creative design.
ACRE requires no special tooling and can be machined similar to particleboard or MDF. When being machined, ACRE does not produce any potentially harmful dust or residues.
ACRE has been installed across America in conditions that closely mirror those experienced throughout Australia. Installations of ACRE in America have stretched far and wide. From coastal environments to arid areas, and even into alpine regions.
The Woodpanel Centre has ACRE available in two finish options – sanded two sides, which has a timber grain look similar to quartercut veneer, or embossed on one side, which accentuates the sanded grain appearance with a crown cut pattern embossed into the face of the sheet.

THE NEW EVOLUTION OF SUSTAINABLE BUILDING MATERIALS
ACRE elevates building materials to a whole new level. Sheets
ACRE isn’t wood. It isn’t a traditional composite. It’s a brand-new material engineered from rice hulls that combines convenience, durability, beauty, and sustainability.
With less static or dust than PVC, ACRE is easy to stain or paint, has smooth edges and a limited-lifetime guarantee, ACRE raises trim, decking, millwork and siding to a whole new level.

Kitchen King is a 100% family owned and operated business and has been under the direction of the Bertelsen family since 2006. It is better known for its Hideaway Bins brand and is run with joint directorship under a close father and daughter team, Allen and Jamie Bertelsen. Supplier Magazine recently sat down with, Jesse Staines, General Manager, to discuss all things business.
Focus On - Hideaway Bin
to compliment premium kitchen drawers with its smooth soft close runners and sleek aluminium drawer sides, but it is also easy to keep looking and smelling clean. We like to think it redefines what you should expect from your waste bin.
The Concelo range also includes Laundry Hampers, which is built on the same platform as the bin range which means it is easy to clean and will never rust, which is just what you need when dealing with dirty and damp laundry.
2. With the push towards reducing waste and increasing recycling, Hideaway Bins have put a number of different practices into place to ensure that their environmental impact is reduced and that their products are sustainable. Discuss some of these practices.
When it comes to manufacturing, we use local suppliers for everything possible. We also redesigned all our product packaging to eliminate polystyrene and soft plastics. This has been replaced by cardboard and kraft paper, which is much easier for our customers to recycle.
We design our bins so that they can either be repaired easily to extend their life cycle. And because we are NZ made, we can provide spare parts readily along with personal after sales service.
1. The team at Hideaway Bin continue to produce creative solutions for both residential and commercial storage, waste and recycling requirements. Walk us through the Hideaway Bin product range.
It starts with our Hideaway Compact range, which was built on the philosophy of providing the biggest bin for the smallest space. The Compact range caters for all types of applications around the home, from small single 15L bins for bathroom vanities right up to twin 40L bins for large family kitchens, and every size in between, including Floor Mount bins for under kitchen sinks.
We then step up to the award winning Concelo range, which has been designed for both residential and commercial environments. Concelo has been designed
We start with designing our products to be sustainable, which in part means they are built to last. We focus on designing quality products that are durable, so they do not need to be replaced prematurely and are a more sustainable use of resources.
3. With a focus on innovation, Hideaway Bins have been market leaders in waste solutions for many years. What drives the design philosophy at Hideaway Bin?
Your kitchen bin is one of the most used appliances in the kitchen, but its importance is often overlooked. For some companies, waste bins are just a small part of their portfolio of products – for us it is everything.
Above: Allen and Jamie Bertelsen receiving the Red Dot design award in 2019.
Focus On
We put the end user, the homeowner at the centre of our design philosophy. They will use their bin 20 to 30 times every day for many years, so their needs are of prime importance – is it easy for them to clean, does it manage odours, will it be durable enough? We then think about the needs of kitchen designers, manufacturers and installers after we have resolved the issues of the end user.
We also do not like to compromise on the functionality of our waste bins. Rather than be constrained by trying to fit buckets into existing drawer systems, we will look at all options to get the best result for the end user.
Lastly, we always love feedback on how to improve our products. Our products constantly evolve based in large part due to customer feedback.
4. Discuss some of Hideaway Bin’s milestone moments.
The company can trace its roots back to the late 1960’s when it was part of a plumbing business. Not long after the Bertelsen family took over, it introduced the Hideaway Bins brand in 2008. The existing product ranges evolved while the team worked on a completely new product range. After seven years of development, the Concelo range was launched in 2018 at AWISA in Sydney, where it won the Gold Star award. In 2019, Concelo was awarded the Red Dot
design award in Germany, which was a huge milestone for a small family owned company from New Zealand. In 2023 we achieved Global Green Tag certification for our Compact and Concelo product ranges, which is an important milestone in our ambition to be socially and environmentally sustainable.
5. Looking ahead, what plans have you got for the future of Hideaway Bin?
Like many businesses we are continuing to invest in developing new products and improving our manufacturing operation to enable growth. Above all, we are passionate advocates for enabling better waste behaviours at work and at home. Our business is quite unique in that we can have a huge impact on our environment that is many times larger than the footprint of just our business. Through the smart design of our products and continuing education of our industry, we can help thousands of our customers reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill and increase the amount that is diverted to recycling or composting for many years to come. z

Software
Modern business is data-driven, and modern business software is becoming increasingly specialised. In this context, software integrations become crucial. Your business could use some of the most powerful software, but if those tools don’t communicate with each other, your business becomes segmented, and your processes, while effective in isolation, will break down at the points where one process ends, and another begins.
For example, you may have a contacts database which is carefully organised, up-todate, and easily accessible. But when you exit that database to email your contact a quote or a purchase order, receive information from them, track multiple conversations or store relevant files, you begin to lose precious time and information.
This is where integrations come in. With one system connecting all your tools and processes, keeping your information current and in one place, while accessible from any area of your business, the possibilities are endless.
Imagine: the moment you enter a supplier’s details into your software, you can email them directly from that software, send and receive purchase orders, receive real-time feedback on product pricing and delivery times, and automatically update your inventory and job progress once a purchase order is received.
With Jobman, there’s no need to imagine.
Jobman is end-to-end enterprise resource planning software designed for manufacturers. On its own, it can manage contacts, leads, quotes, invoices,
The power of integrations
job, inventory, scheduling and more. But Jobman’s real superpower is its ability to integrate with the tools you already use –such as accounting packages, CAD/CAM software, and supplier websites.
With Jobman, your business will have:
• Faster, more accurate processes: For example, quotes which automatically populate job files and purchase orders when accepted; or production schedules which quickly adapt to fluctuating inventory levels, labour capacity, and delivery times.
• Elimination of data silos: Enter your information once, and it will populate every area of the software, saving precious time and potential mistakes. When your sales representative enters product information into a lead file, that information is automatically transferred to the quote, the purchase order, the inventory, the job file, the workers, and the installer.
• Real-time tracking of purchase orders, deliveries, materials, job progress, etc.
• Reduced costs: Your processes will be improved through automation and real-time data tracking, meaning that purchase ordering is faster and more accurate, your inventory levels and job materials lists are kept current, and wastage is kept to a minimum.
• Access from anywhere: Jobman can be used on any device. Meet a customer for coffee and send them a quote straight from your phone, then send a purchase order to your suppliers when the quote is accepted.
• Scalability for growth: Jobman grows and changes alongside your business!
• Reporting and planning: With all your data synced to one software, you can generate detailed and accurate business reports, improving your ability to plan for the future.

Embracing Automation in Stone Masonry
Brought to you by
In the rapidly evolving stonemasonry industry, staying at the forefront of technological advancements is crucial for growth and maintaining a competitive edge. Embracing automation and streamlining business practices are essential steps for stonemasons, setting the stage for sustained long-term success.
In the stone industry context, automation encompasses not only the use of technology to produce and deliver goods with minimal human intervention but also the advancements of Industry 4.0 that enable machines to connect and communicate with one another. This integrated approach of Industry 4.0 allows for the centralised control of the production line, eliminating the need for programming at each individual machine. By streamlining operations and enhancing coordination, automation optimises efficiency and precision across the entire manufacturing process for stonemasons.
Embracing Automation: It's Not Daunting, Support is Available
Stonemasons encounter a unique set of challenges that demand specialised solutions with automation, it is essential to tailor approaches to each situation. Each stone masonry factory operates with a diverse mix of machinery and equipment, making it crucial to consider these variations when designing solutions that optimise efficiency and effectiveness.
The good news, with the advanced software available many different types of machines can be centrally managed and brought together to produce the best outcome for the business without having to purchase an entire new production line.
A recommended automation strategy is to first seek advice on the best set-up for your unique stonemason business and the machinery you have, these types of services provide businesses with a clear implementation roadmap, ensuring every piece of equipment is tailored to specific operational needs. CDK Stone can work with stonemasons to produce the best automation structure for their unique business.
“Our tailored approach carefully considers the opportunities for each stonemason,
taking into account their unique requirements and determining the next steps to begin their journey toward automating their stone processing goals.” said Jonathan Height Joint Managing Director at CDK Stone.
Automation Process
In the stonemasonry industry, automation enhances the fabrication process through advanced tools and technologies. CDK Stone's automation process is structured around three key stages: capture, create, and produce.
1. Capture: This stage involves gathering precise measurements, photographs, dimensions, and edge profiles on site.
2. Create: In this phase, the captured data is used to create detailed drawings for the automation line. This includes converting DXF files into a unified CAD drawing and digitising the visualisation of your production requirements, such as book matching.
3. Produce: The final stage involves automatically programming each machine to optimise production and run time. Including managing all processes in the factory and efficiently planning the production flow.
Discovering Stone
Effective stone processing software is essential in this automation process. It provides tools for drafting, templating, production management, inventory control, design and construction. By streamlining and managing each step through automation, stonemasons can achieve precise and consistent results, making their workflow more efficient and reliable.
A Simple Start to Success
Automation ideally covers the entire stone production line, but significant efficiency gains can be made with specific technologies like the LT3Raptor Laser Templater and Taglio Slab Vision Scanner. These tools reduce waste and the need for re-cutting, offering a seamless entry into automation and saving time on each job from the outset.
The LT3Raptor software from Laser Product Industries streamlines the templating process with its Templating Intelligence and cloud-based management hub. It allows quick additions of features like sinks and backsplashes and enables sending photos, and CNC-ready files directly from the job site to the office, reducing the time needed to produce fabrication-ready files.
The Taglio Scanner, new to the Australian market, is invaluable for both newcomers to automation and established firms. It revolutionises slab assessment and measurement, ensuring accuracy and maximising material use particularly for high-value materials. By capturing intricate details, it provides a simple and accurate solution to vein matching materials helping reduce waste and allow for pre-customer sign-off on specific stone pieces, enabling stonemasons to achieve outstanding results without increasing their team size or resources. The scanner also enables a library of stocked slabs with full colour and veining detail, for quick reference when selecting slabs for projects.
Benefits of Automation:
Increased Efficiency
Automating tasks that were traditionally performed on the factory floor allows businesses to expand production without increasing labour costs. Transitioning these responsibilities to an automated office function, companies can overcome challenges associated with traditional CNCmachine operators who program directly on the factory floor. In a tight labour market this shift not only streamlines operations but also frees up skilled workers to focus on more complex tasks, enhancing overall productivity.
Safer Practices
Automation in stone masonry factories improves safety by reducing the likelihood of human error and limiting the need for manual intervention. Additionally, it provides a reliable and consistent approach to stone fabrication, allowing for a set
process that can be refined and improved over time. This continuous enhancement not only boosts safety, but also ensures the workflow becomes increasingly efficient.
Control
Automation optimises every stage of the production process, guaranteeing consistent quality and minimising the chance of defects. This leads to superior stone finishes and greater customer satisfaction.
Flexibility and Expansion
CDK Stone offers flexible software integration, including modular solutions like SeKON Software. Businesses can adopt these modules in phases, allowing for gradual technology adoption without a full upfront investment. This phased approach helps manage costs, ensures a smooth transition, and allows time for training and process integration.

Article by Philip Ashley
Eco manufacturing, often referred to as sustainable manufacturing, is the production of manufactured products, adopting economically sound processes that minimise negative environmental impacts while conserving energy and natural resources. Eco manufacturing is closely aligned to lean manufacturing and shares similar outcomes.
Eco, or sustainable manufacturing involves designing products with environmental considerations, minimizing material usage and waste, and increasing manufacturing efficiency. Eco manufacturing reaches out to new customers, strengthens your brand and reputation, and contributes to your future success. Essentially, eco manufacturing is about reducing your resource footprint and improving manufacturing performance.
The case for eco manufacturing is strong with a growing demand from consumers for environmentally friendly products and services. ‘Environmentally friendly’ means different things to different people. At the
Eco Manufacturing
core it means looking after and responsibly using the planet’s limited resources. For some it represents a course of action to save the planet from the ‘existential threat of climate change.’ Whatever you believe, the responsible use of natural resources is in itself a sensible thing to do no matter who you are and what you do.
Some businesses say they are eco focused and are later found to be engaged in what is known as ‘Greenwashing.’ The term was first used in 1986 about the hotel industry's practice of placing notices in bedrooms promoting the reuse of towels to “save the environment.” Hotels often made little or no effort toward reducing energy waste, the fundamental objective was the reuse of towels to save laundry costs. In 2010 Volkswagen famously came under scrutiny worldwide, advertising its Golf TDI as being ‘clean diesel,’ later facing huge fines due to an emissions scandal.
Eco Supply
Let us take a look at what serious eco suppliers say about how they do business, and we’ll do this in alphabetical order.
say, “For us, sustainability means simplifying the production processes of our customers in a responsible manner, supporting the local community, and taking care of the environment within which we operate.” The certification of Biesse’s environmental management system has allowed it to review its operating processes to improve efficiency and reduce consumption. The objective is to find the best solutions to minimise the company’s environmental impact in terms of emissions and the use of natural resources.
Cosentino (architectural surfaces) speak of, “Growth that balances the benefits of today with those of the future, taking responsibility for the impact of our activities. We take care of our great common home: the Earth.” Cosentino creates products that are sustainable and contain a high percentage of recycled materials. The company is conscious about the clean transportation of their products, their use of renewable electricity, finding new uses for waste and reusing every drop of water. Cosentino makes the most of every resource, creating sustainable connections and innovative infrastructure.
Luna (woodworking machinery) reports their suppliers actively listen to industry and customer feedback here in Australia and are, “Constantly evolving and improving
Biesse
Fitouts & Trends
their machines accordingly.” Their machines are never out of date, meet the latest local regulatory rules and provide ongoing improvements to performance and efficiency. Efficiency is an often overlooked issue when it comes to eco manufacturing; the more efficient the machine is, the less energy it uses, and fewer defects are produced that lead to wasted rework.
Innovync (stone processing equipment) say, “There are huge incentives to invest in more energy-efficient methods of production. Manufacturing is a resourceintensive process that utilises everything from raw materials to power and water, putting it right in the firing line of green (eco) policies. Innovations like CMS’ Greenjet technology built into all of our waterjets are a great example of our eco solutions, delivering a 30% reduction in energy usage. Paired with Italmecc water filtration systems, an almost complete reduction in freshwater intake can be achieved while making it simple to dispose of the waste produced.”
Eco Manufacture
Shigeo Shingo is considered the world’s leading expert on manufacturing practices and the Toyota Production System. He said, “The four goals of lean thinking (in order) are Easier, Better, Faster, Cheaper.” ‘Easier’ is a total focus on how to make everyone’s job easier. ‘Better’ comes once you make everyone’s job a little easier as a timesaving is inevitable, helping to improve quality throughout the organisation. The result is increased throughput, otherwise known as ‘Faster.’ When you are producing a higher quality product, easier and faster than you imagined, it’s possible to make things ‘Cheaper.’
Eco manufacturers start by recognizing and analysing the current environmental impact of their manufacturing practices. They will conduct energy, waste, and water audits to
identify opportunities for improvement. They will implement sustainable solutions such as installing solar panels and energyefficient lighting, water conservation technologies, recycling measures, and gradually implement cleaner, safer materials into their production.
Eco manufacturers will also consider the equipment they use to manufacture their products. Equipment sourced for its contribution to eco-manufacturing is eco-significant as it likely reduces power and compressed air consumption, is time-efficient, reduces material waste, reduces or preferably, completely eliminates defects leading to rework, is often quieter and provides a cleaner and safer work environment. For example, Homag group have developed technologies that turn off the air supply and dust extraction when a machine stops producing.
Eco Waste
The eight deadly wastes are an ecomanufacturing concept referring to the waste that can be eliminated to improve efficiency and productivity. These are Defects and Scrap, Overproduction, Waiting, Non-value Added Processing, Transportation, Inventory, Motion Waste, Employee Unutilized Skills. Defects have to be re-produced and the scrap either reworked or disposed of. Waiting time is when a product sits on a pallet waiting the next stage of production.
Eco manufacturers... will implement sustainable solutions such as installing solar panels and energyefficient lighting, water conservation technologies, recycling measures, and gradually implement cleaner, safer materials into their production.
Transportation is the moving of raw materials, tools, and finished goods, and needs to be minimized in order to save time and reduce potential risks. Inventory is an excess of materials you needed before you realised a ‘just in time’ automated manufacturing process. Motion waste is when your equipment does not add value to a product or service. Speaking to your preferred supplier to source the right equipment can eliminate most of these issues.
A supposedly Native American proverb goes, “We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children.” Some say the maxim is a little too perfectly tailored and its origins remain a mystery. It emphasises the importance of preserving the planet’s resources for future generations rather than just fulfilling immediate needs. It also emphasises issues including efficiency, design for recycling, eco-friendly materials, lifecycle assessment, energy efficiency, pollution and waste management that are some of the eco-issues manufacturers face. z
Manufacturing
Ryan Butler knows the value of technology and good partnerships. From their early days Ryan and his team at Ryan’s Kitchens and Joinery (RKJ) in Christchurch have relied on Biesse technology. Continuing their quest for excellence, RKJ recently installed their latest edge banding machine with the game changing HyFuse Hydrogen laser tape technology.
Ryan’s Kitchens and Joinery is a family owned and operated business located in Christchurch (Ōtautahi), New Zealand. The company was founded by Ryan Butler in early 2009 with help from his father Bill and his sister Leanne. Ryan’s wife Kate joined the team later. Ryan had owned a building company for fifteen years, installing kitchens and joinery built by other suppliers that he thought could have been manufactured better, both in terms of build quality and design.
The Game Changer
And so, like so many creative and motivated people seeing an opportunity, Ryan started out in a small garage with some basic woodworking machines. Ryan admits it was a tough market with plenty of competition. “If we decide to do something we’re not afraid, we get the job done,” he said. The business grew steadily and soon they found themselves in a small factory where they installed their first Biesse CNC machine, a Skill nesting machine that gave Ryans Kitchens a huge advantage and over a decade of service.
Overcoming Adversity
In 2010 and 2011 two major earthquakes devastated the city. Overnight, no one wanted a new kitchen and even renovations stopped almost completely. Ryan and his team adapted their business model to meet the needs of the community, removing existing kitchens from badly damaged homes, storing these until the homes could be levelled and repaired, then re-installing the kitchen. Eventually, those houses destroyed completely needed a new kitchen
and joinery and Ryans Kitchens and Joinery switched back to their core business, mainly residential properties, and the occasional commercial project.
With steady growth and the company doubling in size every two years or so, a new purpose-built showroom and factory was established seven years ago in the Christchurch suburb of Wigram. The company now employs 16 people, including four highly qualified interior designers and architects, who can advise on the latest ideas and trends which are showcased in their showroom. With a strong emphasis on attention to detail, RKJ offers design, manufacture, and installation to the Canterbury and wider area from their Christchurch base.
Design and Technology
Ryan said, “Keeping up with design trends prevents the job from becoming monotonous, as these trends are constantly evolving. The recycling of old trends
Manufacturing
through new technology allows us to revisit specialized tasks from the past with fresh methods and products. Our Biesse equipment allows us to achieve these goals seamlessly.” Ryan’s father Bill originally did the research for suitable equipment and together they decided that Biesse was the most cost-effective, well-made, solid machine brand available. RKJ’s recent Biesse technology includes a fully automated Biesse nesting line to cut their sheet materials, and a Biesse Stream A edge banding machine installed late 2023.
RKJ’s edge banding partnership with Biesse goes back a long way. Their initial Akron 1400 using EVA glue was replaced with an Akron 1440 fitted with the Airforce (hot air) system for zero join (laser) edges to ensure their product remained the best on the market. That machine was upgraded to the new Biesse Stream A Smart, fitted with the revolutionary HyFuse Hydrogen laser tape technology and is used to edge every panel they produce. HyFuse is a gamechanging product supplied in New Zealand by HPTech and is distributed and supported exclusively in Australia by Biesse. HyFuse offers manufacturers a further option in high quality edge banding.
HyFuse, A Turning Point
“The transition from Airforce to HyFuse has been a significant turning point for us,” Ryan said. “The most apparent changes include a quieter factory environment, no delay for air heating, and the elimination of air cut-outs due to excessive machine usage. HyFuse offers a consistent performance, producing

a uniform flame each time. We don’t have any issues resulting from fluctuating temperatures which can vary based on the factory’s ambient temperature or the machine’s operational duration. We’ve had excellent communication with our supplier including regular phone check-ins and inperson meetings. I have no plans to switch to a different method in the foreseeable future.”
Ryan continues, “Our experience with owning two Biesse CNC machines and three edge banders has been very positive, as they have proven to be reliable and perfectly suited for our needs. The reasons for our long-term commitment to these machines are their user-friendly nature, the high-quality output they produce, and the exceptional support from the technicians who are always willing and eager to provide instruction when necessary. While no machine is flawless and occasional faults do occur, Biesse’s service team has consistently shown their commitment to resolving these issues promptly and effectively.”
Partnerships are important to Ryan and RKJ. Key representatives from board, tape, and hardware suppliers have consistently provided their advice and support. Through these interactions, RKJ forged numerous valuable friendships and amassed a wealth
of knowledge from across the industry. In particular, Ryan singles out Biesse and says, “From day one, Biesse have been right behind us. Their service is very good and always prompt, Biesse have been fantastic for us.”
Ryan has grown the company to where it is today. They are proud to have built a strong reputation within the industry through repeat business and referrals. He said, “We pride ourselves in maintaining high levels of quality kitchens and joinery at competitive prices and we achieve this with our use of Biesse equipment. We are unafraid of change and we’re never complacent. Our company is always eager to innovate and experiment with different strategies to meet client objectives and distinguish ourselves from competitors.”
Ryan continues, “We prioritize customer satisfaction and strive to be approachable and cooperative. Our team, characterized by harmony and openness to new ideas, is truly exceptional. The company’s uniqueness, the growth we’ve achieved over the years, and the unwavering determination of our employees to excel make me immensely proud. We strive to be customer friendly and easy to work with, we have a great team here where everyone gets along and listens to new ideas. The company is one of a kind and I'm proud of the growth we have made over the years and my employees’ determination to do a great job.”
RKJ has no fear of change or being stuck in its ways. They are happy to try new things and experiment with different methods to help achieve client goals and set themselves apart from other businesses. This openminded approach paved the way for their latest technology, HyFuse laser edging. Ryan said, “Design is a key factor in our sales and our Biesse machines, especially our Stream A Smart with laser edge HyFuse technology is a key element in producing a product of superior quality at a competitive price. It’s definitely a game changer for us.” z
