Randyinterviews

Torrie Wilson formerWWEdiva

R: HEY TORI! THANKS FOR TUNING IN! T: THANKS FOR HAVING ME

R: ITS SUCH A PLEASURE TO HAVE YOU HERE! FORMER WWE SUPERSTAR TORI WILSON! TORONTO LOVES YOU! WHERE ARE YOU AT RIGHT NOW? T: I AM IN HOUSTON TEXAS R: AH I HATE YOU! I CAN USE SOME HEAT OUT HERE! HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN LIVING OUT THERE? T: I’VE BEEN LIVING HERE FOR ABOUT 2 1/2 YEARS R: YOU FROM IDAHO YES IM FROM IDAHO, THEN LIVED IN LA A FEW YEARS THEN FLORIDA THEN CAME HERE

R: SO BASICALLY WHAT WE’RE GOING TO DO, IS TOUCH ON OBVIOUSLY A LARGE EXTENT OF YOUR WRESTLING CAREER, TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR NEW SHOW THATS COMING OUT...I WANT TO FIRST START OFF WITH WRESTLEMAINA 25 - YOUR FIRST RETURN TO THE RING IN A YEAR SINCE YOU LEFT... HOWD IT FEEL TO GET BACK IN THE RELIANT STADIUM IN HOUSTON TEXAS - YOUR CURRENT HOME TOWN? T: OH MY GOSH, LET ME JUST TELL YOU, ANYTIME I GET TO TAKE PART IN A WRESTLEMAINA ITS INCREDIBLE. ESPECIALLY IT HAD BEEN ABOUT 2 YRS SINCE I’VE BEEN INFRONT OF THAT CROWD AND I NEVER THOUGHT I’D BE ON THAT STAGE AGAIN - IT WAS ALL JUST SURREAL R: HOW WAS THE LOCKERROOM ATTITUDE LIKE WAS IT LIKE COMING BACK HOME OR WAS IT DIFFERENT SINCE YOU WERE SEEING SOME NEW FACES IN THE BUSINESS THAT YOU HAVENT SEEN BEFORE? WAS A DIFFERENT DYNAMIC EVEN CHEMISTRY? T: IT WAS DIFFERENT I HAVE TO SAY. IT WAS GREAT CUZ IT FELT LIKE A REUNION - WALKING AROUND BACKSTAGE AND SEEING ALL THE WRESTLERS & PPL BEHIND THE SCENES. I LOVE EVERYBODY AND I GOT ALONG WITH EVERYBODY AS FAR AS THE FEEL IN THE LOCKER ROOM, YA YOU CAN FEEL THERE WAS A CHANGE CAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY NEW GIRLS THAT I HAVENT MET BEFORE I FELT OUT OF PLACE IN A WAY R: WELL THAT IS UNDERSTANDABLE I WATCH THE MATCH... I HAVE TO HONESTLY SAY THAT I WAS A BIT DISAPPOINTED WITH THE OUTCOME. HOW DID YOU FEEL ABOUT THE FINISH I FOUND IT INSUTLING THAT YOU GIRLS HAD A SPECIFIC MATCH AND THEN it was WON BY A MAN DID THAT BOTHER YOU OR DID YOU WALK AWAY LIKE, OH THATS JUST ANOTHER DAY IN THE OFFICE! T: WELL IT DIDNT BOTHER ME TO BE HONEST I ACTUALLY THOUGHT IT WAS A 25 DIVA ROYAL, NOT LIKE THE MATCH OF THE YEAR. IT WAS A GOOD COMIC RELIEF. IT WAS MORE ENTERTAINING. R: HOWD IT FEEL WALKING DOWN THE AISLE WITH KID ROCK? THAT MUST OF BEEN SOMETHING! T: that was AWESOME

07

R: WAS THAT YOUR FINAL MATCH? HAVE YOU OFFICIALLY RETIRED FROM THE BUSINESS? T: I TRY NOT TO SAY NEVER EVER AGAIN. YOU NEVER KNOW. HONESTLY IM TIRED OF TRAVELLING - GOING BACK TO WRESTLEMAINA KIND OF SEALED THE DEAL FOR CLOSING THAT DOOR. I HAD BACK SURGERY LAST YEAR AND TO ME I DONT THINK ITS

WORTH GOING BACK RIGHT NOW. ANYONE WHO KNEW ME THE LAST YEAR BEING WITH WWE, PPL KNEW I WAS GETING WEARY THE WWE, I HAD A LOT OF PERSONAL ISSUES THAT I COULDNT DEAL WITH CAUSE OF ALL THE TRAVEL...THEN STAYING HOME TO NURSE MY BACK AFTERWARDS I DIDNT THINK I COULD EVER GO BACK TO THE EXCESSIVE TRAVELLING. R: ITS FUNNY, YOU ARE ONE OF THE TOKEN FEW - YOURSELF, STACY KEEPBLER TRISH STRATUS TO NAME A FEW - THAT WERE ABLE TO GET YOURSELF INVOLVED IN OTHER MEDIA BASED PROJECTS OUTSIDE OF WRESTLING. HOW DOES ONE ABLE TO DO THAT, CUZ I FIND THAT A LOT OF SUPERSTARS THAT LEAVE THE INDUSTRY DONT SUCCEED IN HOLLYWOOD... THEY KIND OF JUST FLUTTER AWAY. WHAT MAKES YOU GUYS SO DIFFERENT TO REMAIN MARKETABLE AND STAY IN THE SPOTLIGHT? T: HONESTLY I DONT FEEL LIKE I MADE A SUCCESSFUL RUN INTO HOLLYWOOD. I THINK IT IS JUST LUCK. ITS GREAT THAT WE DO HAVE THE FAN BASE FROM WWE BUT IT IS HARD CUZ HOLLYWOOD DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THAT. R: THIS LEADS TO MY OTHER QUESTION AND I HOPE YOU DO NOT TAKE OFFENSE. IS IT TRUE THAT THERE IS A ‘CURSE’ IN THE WORLD OF PRO WRESTLING THAT HOLLYWOOD DOES NOT TAKE WRESTLERS SERIOUSLY. AND WHAT MOTIVATES ME TO THAT QUESTION IS DWAYNE JOHNSON “THE ROCK” IN MY OPINION IS THAT HE IS TRYING TO IGNORE HIS PAST, IS GET ACTING ROLES. IS THAT A FAIR ASSESSMENT? DUE TO FEAR OF BEING JUDGE “THESE ARE JUST WRESTLERS, THEIR NOT ACTORS” T: HONESTLY, I DONT THINK SO. I DONT THINK HES IGNORING HIS PAST. I THINK HE HAS JUST MOVED ON TO MOVIES. I DONT THINK HES IGNORING HIS PAST JUST CAUSE HES NOT COMING BACK TO RAW EVERY WEEK. I THINK PPL CHANGE AND GROW R: BACK TO WRESTLING - THE MOVIE THE WRESTLER; WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THAT? DO YOU FEEL IT WAS A FAIR REPRESENTATION OF THE WRESTLING WORLD OR WAS IT TOO SENSATIONAL? WHATS YOUR TAKE T: YOU CAN SAY IT WAS A FAIR REPRESENATION - DEFINITELY NOT THE WORLD OF WWE. I MEAN I HAVE KNOWN OF WRESTLERS WHO HAVE GONE THE EXACT SAME THING BUT LIKE ANYTHING THERE ARE PPL WHO GO THROUGH THAT AND OTHERS WHO SAVE THEIR MONEY... R: DO U THINK HAVING MICKY R PART OF WRESTLEMAINA LIVE UP TO THE HYPE? T: IT WOULD OF BEEN COOL TO SEE HIM DO MORE, BUT IM NOT SURE WHAT HAPPENED THERE... R: LOL OK WE WON’T SAY MORE! BUT IT WS NICE TO SEE HIM COME OUT. BUT MOVING ON TO YOUR NEW SHOW THAT WILL BE COMING OUT IN THE FALL “I AM A CELEBRITY GET ME OUTTA HERE” WHAT IS THAT ALL ABOUT. T: IT AIRS JUNE 1ST - IT WILL BE ON AIR 4 DAYS A WEEK IT WILL BE LIVE! I AM EXCITED ABOUT IT. IT A REALITY SHOW TAKING PLACE IN COSTA RICA with 10 CELEBRITIES. R: NOW IM CURIOUS TO KNOW - ABOUT THE DRUGS AND THE CLOUD THAT HOVERS OVER THE ENT INDUSTRY - THE CHRIS BENOIT INCIDENT - THE MURDER SUICIDE AND HOW DRUGS WERE INVOLVED. DO YOU FIND IN THE WOMENS LOCKERS ROOM, THAT THERE WAS PRESSURE FOR WOMEN TO GET INVOLVED WITH ILLEGAL DRUGS TO COPE WITH THE STRESSES OF TRAVEL, BEING ABLE TO PERFORM, DEAL

08

Torrie Wilson formerWWEdiva — cont’d T: OH GOSH NO, NOT ONE BIT! THAT IS KIND OF FAR FOR ME TO RELATE TO. I DID ALL THE TRAVEL AND NEVER FELT THE URGE TO TAKE PILLS. ITS HORROR TO ME, I JUST DONT UNDERSTAND IT.

CAL DISORDER. HOW DID YOU OR GIRLS FIND TO ENTER THAT STATE AND HOW DID YOU FIND TO GET OUT OF THAT? I THINK IT IS IMPORTANT TO ADDRESS AND WITH YOUR SUCCESS, YOU COULD MOTIVATE A LOT OF YOUNG WOMEN OUT THERE...HOW DO YOU WALK AWAY FROM THAT?

R: THAT IS A REFRESHING PERSPECTIVE. MY TAKE WOULD OF BEEN, WELL THE QUESTION THAT CAME TO MIND IS WHO IS RESPONSIBLE, IS IT THE RESPONSIBITLY OF THE WRESTLER TO GO AND MAKE SURE THEIR READYTO GO AT IT WITH THE THEIR CRAZY SCHEDULE AND IGNORE ALL THE BUMPS AND BRUISES THAT COME ALONG OR IS THE RESPONSIBILTY OF THE PROMOTER TO DUMB DOWN THE SCHEDULE TO LET THE TALENT REST UP AND HEAL?

T: IT IS REALLY HARD TO EXPLAIN UNLESS YOU WENT THOUGH IT. THE MEDIA PUTS A LOT OF PRESSURE ON LOOKS AND FORGET TO TELL EVERYONE THAT MOST OF THE THINGS YOU SEE ON TV OR MAGAZINES ARE AIRBRUSHED AND EDITED, WOMEN ARENT THAT THIN; GIRLS LOOK AT THAT AND THINK THATS HOW THEY SHOULD LOOK. ITS NOT REALITY. GIRLS NEED TO FIND A SUBSTANCE WITHIN THEMSELVES AND UNDERSTAND THAT THE ‘OUTER’ LOOK IS JUST A SHOW.

T: I WOULD NEVER TELL TALENT IT WAS ALL THEM, I WOULD SAY IT IS A BIT OF THE PROMOTERS RESPONSIBILITY - I DO THINK WRESTLERS SHOULD GET MORE TIME OFF HERE. IT WOULD BE GREAT IF THEY NEEDED THE BREAK THAT THEY COULD BE ABLE TO ASK FOR IT AND IT’D BE OKAY.

R: WHEN DID YOU COME TO THE REALIZATION THAT YOU CAN FIGHT THIS AND TURN IT AROUND

WITH THE BUSINESS ETC... DO YOU FIND THE NEEDINESS OF DRUGS FOR MEN, WAS JUST AS NEEDED FOR WOMEN

R: THATS THE POINT, CHANCES ARE, ITS NOT ALWAYS OKAY T: ALL I CAN SPEAK OF ARE FROM MY OWN EXPERIENCES, AND THERE WERE TIMES IN THE LAST FEW YEARS WHERE I WAS COMPLETELY BURNT OUT AND ASK FOR WKENDS OFF - AND NEVER GOT IT. I CANT SPEAK FOR ANYONE ELSE. R: ITS JUST INTERESTING SEEING ALL THE LEGENDS COME AND LEAVE US AND YOU LOOK AT THE CORRELATION OF THE BUSINESS AND THE DRUG ABUSE AND THE WORK SCHEDULE...BUT YOUR RIGHT IT DOES GO BACK TO THE INDIVIDUAL. NOW I JUST WANT TO GO BACK A LITTLE TO YOUR CHILDHOOD, YOU WERENT ASPIRING TO BE A WRESTLER IN YOUR YOUTH. YOU ACTUALLY WERE INTERESTED IN MODELLING, WHAT MADE YOU GET INTO THE WRESTLING WORLD? T: IT WAS NEVER THAT I PLANNED TO BE. I WAS REALLY SHELTERED WHILE GROWING UP, I DIDNT HAVE CABLE OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT. IT WASNT UNTIL I WAS IN COLLEGE, I WAS DATING A GUY WHO WAS A BIG WRESTLING FAN - WE MOVED TO LA AND HE WOULD ALWAYS WATCH IT SO I WAS KIND OF SUCKED INTO THE WORLD, WHICH IM TOTALLY HAPPY ABOUT IT NOW! I JUST DID A FEW SHOWS, IT WENT WELL SO I JUST WENT WITH IT. IT WAS A LOT BETTER THAN HOLLYWOOD AT THE TIME. REALLY IT JUST KIND OF HAPPENED SLOWLY AND JUST GOT BIGGER AND BIGGER. R: ANOTHER PART OF YOUR CHILDHOOD, WHICH CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG; I READ YOU HAD SUFFERED FROM EATING DISORDERS SUCH AS ANOREXIA AND BULLIMIA...IS THAT TRUE? T: YES WHEN I WAS TEENAGER. R: I FIND THAT VERY EMPOWERING SINCE YOU WERE ABLE TO OVERCOME THAT! THE REASON WHY I AM FOCUSED ON IT, I HAVE A FRIEND WHO HAS A DAUGHTER CURRENTLY SUFFERING FROM THAT - AND AS MUCH AS HE TRIES TO GET HER TO EAT, SHE WONT DO IT. I GUESS YOU CAN VERIFY THAT IT IS A REALLY PSYCHOLOGI-

09

T: I WAS MISERABLE AND DID WANT TO LIVE MY LIFE JUST THINKING ABOUT FOOD AND STARVING MYSELF. IT GOT TO A POINT WHERE I KNEW I WAS SICK AND I GOT HELP AND STARTED GAINING SOME WEIGHT. I GOT INTO FITNESS, STARTED A DIET PLAN, FOLLOWING PLANS FROM FITNESS COMPETITORS. HONESTLY FOLLOWING THAT PLAN HELPED ME GET OUT OF IT. YOU GOT TO EAT TO KEEP THIN! AND IT WAS CONTROL, THE MORE PEOPLE WOULD TELL ME TO EAT; I WOULDNT WANT TO. IT WAS LIKE THE ONLY THING I HAVE CONTROL OVER IN MY LIFE AT THE TIME. r: wow thats amazing. congradulations to you and overcoming that. Its empowering that you were able to get over that, cause who knows where you could of been had you not gotten better. I think its important for the readers to recognize that. T: Thank you! R: YOU GOT INTO WCW IN 98, YOU SAW A TRANSITION IN THE WOMENS ROLE IN THE WRESTLING, WHICH IS PRETTY PROFOUND! IN THE 80S, WOMEN WERE MORE SO VALETS OR MANAGERS, LIKE THE INFAMOUS ELIZABETH. FOR THE MOST PART, THEY WERE EYE CANDY. BUT YOU BECAME A PART OF THE MOVEMENT FROM VALETS TO WRESTLERS...WHAT DID THAT MEAN TO YOU IN SEEING THAT CHANGE? WAS THAT IMPORTANT TO WOMEN IN THE LATE 90s? T: IT DEFINITELY MADE US FEEL GOOD TO BE PORTRAYED MORE THAN JUST A GIRL WITH A PRETTY FACE STANDING THERE. ITS GREAT TO HAVE SOME KIND OF SUBSTANCE TO THE SHOW. R: DID YOU ENJOY THE GIMMACK MATCHES LIKE THE BRA AND PANTIES MATCH ETC..? DID YOU FEEL THAT WAS NECESSARY TO ‘SELL’ WOMEN AS WRESTLERS? T: WELL YEAH I DID NOT ENJOY ALL OF THOSE. WHO WOULD ENJOY WRESTLING IN YOUR UNDERWEAR? HAHA - IT IS WHAT IT IS, I GET IT, THERE ARE TIMES PEOPLE WANT TO SEE IT. IT WAS FRUSTRATING SOMETIMES WHEN YOU WANT TO SHOW THE AUDIENCE THAT YOU DO KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING, AND IMPRESS THEM WITH SKILLS, ITS REALLY HARD WHEN YOU HAVE TO WORK THE STAGE BEING IN A BIKINI.

R: WHO WERE YOUR ROLES MODELS IN WCW AND WWE TO HELP NURTURE AND CARVE YOUR CRAFT? T: I MUST SAY BILLY KIDMAN HELPED ME LEARN ABOUT WRESTLING IN GENERAL. HE HELPED ME A LOT. RICKY STEAMBOAT, SIERNA, SHANE DOUGLAS, ARNY ANDERSON,EDDY GUERRO ALWAYS TOOK TIME WITH ME,ALWAYS PULL ME ASIDE AND TELL ME I HAVE POTENTIAL AND GIVE ME THE GREAT ADVICE AND POINTERS. ANYONE I WENT TO WOULD OFFER ME ADVICE. R: THATS GREAT THAT YOU WERE ABLE TO GET THE SUPPORT WHEN YOU NEED IT. I WANT TO TOUCH ON, YOU POSED FOR PLAYBOY, NOW I AM WONDERING IN THOSE NEOGATIONS, WERE YOU OBLIGATED TO POSE OR IS THAT A SEPERATE VENTURE THAT YOU WANTED TO DO WILLINGLY? T: NO THATS NEVER AN OBLIGATION, THAT WAS SOMETHING THEY APPROACHED WWE THEN APPROACHED ME. I WAS REALLY EXCITED TO DO IT! r: so when you wake up in the morning, what is the day like for Tori? T: Well I own a clothing store now, Officially Jaded; I’m working on my own clothing line for women, my day revolves around making my store a success. I dont have a business degree so I made a lot of mistakes along the way so I am learning with the process. I’m working on a new location in Dallas. I’m still a fitness maniac, and of course the new reality show! R: Im really happy for your store, the show and it is empowering to know you are now your own boss. It must be an amazing feeling that you are now totally independant rather than dependant. Make your own schedule etc... T: It is but it stressful. I love coming home and going to my own bed at night. I love if my agent calls and asks me to come to LA for a few days, I can! Its great, I don’t HAVE to do anything! haha R: So is that the final chapter? You will do your clothing line and that is that, or do you have other ventures in the works? T: My main thing is that I don’t have a set plan. A few years ago, i never would of thought I’d have my own store and done what I’ve done. I definitely love the entertainment industry, I dont know where I exactly “care” to be. Maybe I’m giving the wrong advice haha Its hard TO have a plan, anything can change and things are spontaneous in this field. R: Do you ever do the online thing? Facebook, MySpace,Twitter? Do you have time for it? T: I have a myspace page, but I get lazy so I forget to go on it. I actually just got twitter! Which is actually pretty fun! tori11 R: I dont want to take anymore of your time. But Thank you very much for taking this time with me. I hope it was comfortable for you! T: Your great! If it was uncomfortable I would of told you haha but Thank you!

Canada’s Fu*kin’ Best Drizzy’s Home — Georgia Kuye

It

seems like anywhere you go, the catchy Best I Ever Had hook is either being hummed, played in every venue or club, or blasted through the speakers of your barber’s radio. Toronto’s own Drake, Drizzy, Young Angel -- whatever you want to call him -- is making his footprint in the solid ground of hip hop. Though it may be your automatic reaction to compare his newly released mixtape, So Far Gone, to Kanye West’s 808s and Heartbreaks, Drake does more than just sing and rap; his perfectionist ways (his impeccable ear for what sounds right and his endless hours in the studio) contribute to his witty lines and angelic melodies. Through his lyrics he is able to convey those situations that everyone goes through in life, love, and work but are difficult to articulate. His message is to be real by sharing life experiences with the world. For the past few months Drake and his team have been on tour. He has performed to audiences from coast to coast in the U.S. and he, of course, did not forget to put on a show for his fans at home. His show at Toronto’s Sound Academy had over 2,500 people in attendance, most of which sang and rapped along word-by-word.

11

With all the chaos that is going on, Drake always has his mother, Sandi Graham, to keep him grounded. She has been supportive of him from as early as his days on the T.V. show, ‘Degrassi’. It is obvious that she is more than excited for his up and coming success in the music industry. “I’ve always been proud of my sons work ethic,” she explains. “He approaches everything passionately, even as a young boy. He started writing music when he was ten years old and he brought to my attention that what makes his work different is that he writes his own lyrics; thats an incredible gift.” She continues to say, “his success doesn’t surprise me because if you work hard it always leads you down a positive path. His success is as overwhelming for me as it is for him.”

“People have this perception that he came from a privileged background. Certainly he had a lot of support but when other kids had computers we were going to the library. The reality is he worked very, very hard. Nothing is magic.” I asked Sandi how she feels about her only child travelling in and out of the country all the time and how it has affected her relationship with him and her life as a whole. “Oh my gosh, I miss him a lot,” she replies. “I’m used to having an incredibly close relationship with my son. As a single parent, he’s been with me all these years so, undoubtedly, we’ve shared a lot in an open relationship. Consequently, to not have him around to share things with me is a very different situation but what I’ve realized is what he’s off doing is every parent’s dream.”

“When he’s away he’ll send me texts at 4 in the morning saying ‘I love you, mom.’”

You know Drake is making waves in the media when he’s been rumoured to be involved with Rihanna and recently, Teyana Taylor. What is more, hip hop geniuses Jay-Z and Kanye West have paid homage to Drake’s “Les-bi-honest” line in his verse for Lil’ Wayne’s Every Girl hit. But this does not lead Drake to any sense of arrogance; he always remains humble. He speaks directly to his fans through his blog at www.octobersveryown. blogspot.com and never holds back from thanking his fans for their love and support. He is also loyal to the people around him. His producers, Noah ‘40’ Shebib and Boi-1da, have been recognized as the backbone of So Far Gone. Drake remains focussed on his future plans of what he wants to bring to the hip hop game. In his immediate future he has an album on the way, titled Thank Me Later. It’s not all about the money and success but about creating something that will be a classic. Will this album stand the test of time? That’s the real challenge and Toronto confidently stands behind him.

Fashion Flourishes and gets hotter with the Summer Sun! Hopefully everyone’s awake from my last Article, and dealing with those sleepy and puffy eyes that are coming out of hibernation. I shared some pretty useful tips and tricks! Well I hope everyone is conquering those issues because the Season is springing to life in full force my friends, and everyone is starting to look alive! Fashion Weeks – getting inspired! Everyone most definitely had his or her spirits high for this year’s various Fashion weeks around the world. And as we all looked on while the “Fashion Gods” presented their Spring/ Summer collections on the World’s Runways, the weather was sure taking great shape in Toronto! With a couple early warm days and my passion for fashion strongly rooted, I managed to conjure up some Fabulous photo shoots,

Fashion&Beauty withtrishislandbesos

with medallion like pieces attached at the neck and waist areas. He then phased into hot pinks, reds hints of blue, and more rich colors with the same sort of beautiful big accessories and hot pink and silver stilettos, with exuded the heat of summer. This brings me to the results of my Spring into Summer Makeup Creations! The Results of My Inspiration The Beautiful and highly talented Miss Kim Davis sat in my Makeup chair and posed as my canvas. With her tracks burning up the airwaves in various cities and her amazing energy it was quite easy to produce my look. Using a Combination of Gold and soft Pink eye shadows I started of with a “sweet” Spring look, and later added a darker blue on the ends creating a Smokey effect but with a quite controlled shape according to the shape of the eye. The picture on the side shows the results!!

where I created my own makeup looks drawing inspiration from my favorite Runway show from all of the Fashion weeks. John Galliano’s Spring/Summer Runway show in Paris! I was without a doubt stunned by his collection (I expected nothing less). His usage of colors such as Lime green, soft pinks for his Spring collection were beautiful, accented by Gold and Silver hanging chains

15

For the Face this Spring and Summer and both day and night, “Mineralized Skin Finishes” are and amazing for applying over your foundation, or even on your bare cheeks and just the bridge of your nose to give you that healthy shimmery glow. I recommend Mineralized Skin Finishes from MAC Cosmetics. You can find one that suits your skin tone and they’re quite easy to choose from! It’s most definitely an item worth purchasing this year in my opinion. I tossed in one of my creative looks for your viewing pleasure as well. Using Greens, Pinks and Oranges from my 88 colour palette from “Coastal Scents” I achieved this Funky Fresh Season runway look. Sharply cutting the crease of my eye with green, I was able to add that dramatic effect I was going for and I lightly accented with scattered yellow dots, which also came from my “Costal Scents” 88 Colour Palette.

Ending with Killer Products & Props! • www.KimDavisOnline.com Toronto’s own Diva. Thank you Kim for being my Model • “Mineralized Skin Finishes” from MAC Cosmetics as I said before is a MUST HAVE!!! This will last you all year round! And even add to your glow in the winter (which comes way to fast in Toronto) • Color Palettes from “Costal Scents” they have new palettes that include blushes alongside the eye shadows and a brand new 120 color palette! www.costalscents.com Trust me on this one, great purchase! • Be sure to check out the “Naked Honey Collection” containing some great earth toned and warm colors to get our tan on! DaTruooth

The Inquisition of Da Truooth: Truooth or False | By: Allison Ramdial Who is your biggest inspiration? My biggest inspiration is my ambitious mentality. You have an avid interest with Tupac Shakur, what attracted you to his work? I’m empathetic towards the life he led; because I lead the same life. I’m real to the core, and I feel like a lot of rappers rap for the wrong reason. Instead of delivering the message to encourage and elevate, they’re infatuated with the lifestyle of the rich and famous; it’s like they sell their souls for it! So, I feel like it’s my fate to expose the world to Da Truooth- just like Pac. how would you classify your music? I feel like my music can be classified as a Picasso or Salvador Dali painting. I paint you a picture through words so you can feel it- I try to spark your brain to make your soul move. In your opinion, who is the most influential person of the 20th century? God. He’s always there, you can depend on Him, He keeps it real with you, and He shows you who you’re born to be. And its our choice to be the person he created us to be or go against the grain. What was your major influence that brought you to the entertainment industry? Liars! Liars like Plies for example and many more. It’s like when you’re in the hood, and its dark in your house and you turn on the lights and you see this big ass roach and it freezes, as if it’s been caught and doesn’t know what dothat’s what these “characters” are, they’re like roaches and I’m like the light who exposes them. They are my major influence. Is there anyone in particular that you are looking forward to working with in the future? If so, who and why? That’s a hard question. I feel like there are too many real N.I double G.A’s (niggas) and females who are still in this game: Snoop Dogg, Outlawz, Tech-9, Trick Daddy, Jadakiss, Rick Ross, Twista, Andre 3000, Gorilla Zoe, Jeezy, Dr.Dre, Cool N’ Dre, Keisha Cole, Mary J, Jill Scott, and Ciera. If I had to choose out of all these individuals, I would choose Snoop Dogg.

17

What is your ultimate goal in regards to your career? My ultimate goal is to mentally plant a seed of elevation. Too many people are entertained by lies, so by planting this seed, I can get into the brains of the real people like myself. They can help bring a lot more light to the darkness. ther than working on you music career, is there organizations, charities or events that you avidly participate in? I’ve been in the judicial system more than a dozen times, so there comes a time in your life when change is needed. The charity that I would choose to be more involved in is going to different prisons speaking to young males who are living the lifestyle I once did. I believe it’s important that you can tell your story to someone who feels that they are the main character in the story that I’m telling as they listen: People will not listen to someone who has not walked in their shoes. What words of inspiration do you have for your fans and other artists? Know who you are. Be a ridah. When I say “be a ridah,” I’m saying ride or die for what you truly believe in. is there anyone that you would like to thank? God! Because he allowed me to go through so much to shape and mold me into the man I am today and he ain’t done yet!

ACROSSTHEGLOBE

BeenieMan – Lisa Persaud

I had the opportunity to sit down with the King of the Dancehall Beenie Man while he was in Toronto shooting his video Gimmi Gimmi with Lil X. Twenty-eight years later, the ‘Doctor’ is still going strong in the Dancehall world; He’s become one of the leading music sensations of our time. From recording tracks, to significant movie roles, headlining papers with personal & music integrated controversies to working independently on his own albums; he still continues to strive to stay ahead of the game. LP: You have been around for a long time, starting back from 1981. In your opinion, what has kept you relevant? BM: I been recording since 81 but mi been an artist since ‘77. It is definitely is the fans that kept me going all these years.

LP: You have had your fair share of controversies and hardships to overcome. Has there been anything in particular that has kept you going though your career? BM: I am a positive person. Mi never let people stir me away from my work. Why would I fight people who wan fuh fight and discriminate? Dem ah the people who make me realize we need to get higher level and not to let dem bring me down. LP: You have seen music change…how has it evolved? BM: In the 60s and 70s, bare lovers rock and reggae was on di radio. Dancehall was the outdoor music, strictly for the clubs. Bob Marley came with the badness and got that more onto the

radio. LP: What do you think of the current state of dancehall music, and do you have any idea where it is going? BM: Now everything ah craze. If culture the craze den it ago play pon di radio for 6mths Then dancing chune become di craze, that den play for 6mths. Back den there was no craze. Everything industrial now (laughs) LP: Music has definitely taken a downturn with Internet sharing and now economical issues, what is your take on the situation? BM: Downloading and di Internet is bad for companies then bad for artists cause less ah dem money goes into production and den dem lose money from lack ah sales.. LP: This obviously affects those wanting to get into the business… How is this hurting new artists wanting to get into the music industry? BM: Its hard for all new and current artists. Contracts are ridiculous. You do more now and work with the label to help with di rest. You got to have money to make the album and then earning can take up to years. What labels don’t realize is that yuh need to show ya artist dem loyality to keep dem. Show dem love and respect like yuh a dem mother or father. Mi just did mi own video and the new album that’s being released later this month. I just finished my contract with Virgin Records – I feel I make enough on my own to do my own thing. LP: That’s impressive but of course not all artists have that kind of money to invest in themselves… BM: You really need to find a way to invest in yourself, make it out there and get a proper network. LP: You mentioned you just finished working on your new album. Tell us about it! Why should we buy it and not just download it? (Both Laugh) BM: Yes please buy it! Don’t download! Well it’s called Legend Return, it drops sometime the end of June to early July. It has Busta Rhymes, Akon, and

Jeezy and a few other artists on the album. I do think it’s one of my best. LP: And I’m sure it consists of your new track ‘Gimmi Gimmi’ which you just shot the video for here in Toronto with Lil X. How was your experience shooting your video with X? BM: I’ve been doing videos with X since Girl Dem Sugah – King ah di dancehall and Dude were also X Videos. LP: The difference between Jamaican and North American cultures is obvious, Why has Jamaican music and culture translated so well into the rest of America & Canada? BM: There are more dancehall fans in Canada than the USA LP: I ALWAYS tell people that!!! (Both Laugh) LP: Americans in general are more on a Hip Hop Tip BM: Yes True. No disrespect to America! I do feel there are more dancehall fans In Canada and definitely hip hop is the main thing in the US. LP: You have your Canadian tour coming up correct? BM: Yes in September I have my Canadian tour. I will definitely be back in Toronto. Possibly even for Caribana in August.. LP: What’s next for you? Are you just going to keep on doing your thing in dancehall, or do you see yourself doing anything outside of music? BM: Artists always have alternative plans but music come first to me. I do love doing movies and do have new projects coming up. I am also working on a new track with Busta Rhymes. LP: Finally, what advice would you give those aspiring to be a music legend like yourself? BM: It depends on who I am giving advice to. I had no choice but music; I been taking care of mi parents since I been 10. Others get married, have kids then look fuh music as a way out (laughs) You must dedicate your life and sacrifice. This business becomes your life Thank you so much!

Summer of questions FOR THE toronto raptors?

- James Borbath: daily writer in the Dino Nation Blog that is part of The Score Sports Federation. When the Raptors tip it up next season it will be the 15th season for the franchise. That is cause to celebrate the fact NBA basketball has been in Toronto and not just survived but thrived in that time. But given the state of the Raptors at the moment there is not much of a party mood in the fan base. After a season that fans expected to be exciting and have a playoff run they got far from it. Chris Bosh was one of only 3 players in the league to average 20 and 10. The other 2 players were Chris Paul and Dwight Howard. Both those guys made it to the playoffs. Bosh of course did not and has a contract that if nothing changes is set to expire at the end of the upcoming season. That is the cloud that hangs over the Raptors Franchise. Fans still remember the Vince Carter trade that was one of the worst in NBA history. In NBA circles most outside of Toronto say that Chris Bosh will test free agency and leave Toronto when his contract ends. Some more loud than others. Jalen Rose has been on the record that not just Bosh but Lebron James will end up in New York as Knicks. You also had Stephen A Smith who has now has had his time at ESPN come to an end, he said that Bosh has already told the Raptors he is gone. Something that both Bosh and Bryan Colangelo would deny. The future of Chris is going to be the major topic of the off-season and if he is not traded will be the story of next season as well. I think Bosh will indeed be back to start the 09/10 season in Toronto. Nothing is for certain but I can not see Colangelo making a deal for Bosh over the summer. People in sports will all way say that if Wayne Gretzky can be traded anyone can be. The basketball version of that would be Shaq who has been traded a few times in his hall of fame NBA Career. When you look back on the history of guys making exits from Toronto most times they have been bitter and ugly

21

divorces in many cases. Toronto once loved Vince Carter and that now has turned to hate for a majority of folks. Damon Stoudamire the first true star the team had he left with bitter feelings as well. It is hard to imagine that Bosh will leave the same way. He has been a fixture out in the community and has a place as perhaps the biggest star in a town that is owned by the hockey team. He is a spokesman for Boys and Girls club and his charity foundation has done tons of good for children in the city of Toronto and surrounding areas. In short Bosh is a good guy. Not even the story of his ex-girlfriend suing him for child support could tear town the solid reputation that he has built. When that all plays out I am confident Bosh will look every bit the good guy people have believed him to be. We could get into all of the nasty details but let me just say that when someone wants 14.4 million dollars to raise a child personally I question the motivations of the person. It was a rough year on and off the floor for Chris Bosh though. But all that being said he still produced solid numbers and he was not the reason this basketball team was a failure on the floor. In being the leader of the team and the face of the franchise does he share in the blame though? Yes he does but in terms of numbers and performance he was playing at the All Star level we have come to expect from him. When you get beyond Bosh there are a number of other issues to deal with. Jay Triano will be back as the coach. I am not sure about that. It will be interesting to see the staff he builds around him. However in talking to all the people that cover the team in the media they all seem confident that Jay is going to be the guy and think he deserves that chance. Hard to argue that he was not put in an impossible situation in a lot of ways. Taking over in the middle of the season having his point guard Jose Calderon battling through injuries. Having a major trade made that sent the Raptors big off-season move least year to Miami for Shawn Marion. Jay is a Canadian as well and even though I personally would have looked elsewhere, I still hope the best for him if he indeed is going to be the man moving forward. He will have a training camp and a chance to put his stamp on the Raptors for this upcoming season. Who he has in that camp is another group of questions. Shawn Marion tops the list of people the Raptors will need to make choices about. Marion being a free agent can also just leave. It is really not clear if Shawn wants to stay. It may come down to money. Marion does like the city and I

know this first hand. Back in the days of Vince Carter he use to host a charity game in the city in the summer. I got a chance to meet Shawn Marion in covering that event one year. He loved the city and after the game itself I would head to a club that Carter owned and Shawn Marion was there having a good time. He is always a guy that seems to do that and anytime there is an event where the players are out and about Marion is usually front and center. So if Shawn Marion does not return to T.O it will have nothing to do with not be happy in the city. In this bad economy Shawn Marion and other free agents could be in for a shock. The money that will be offered for guys like Marion and other high end free agents this off-season likely will be far lower than they would like. The combination of the bad economics and teams saving up for the expected free agent frenzy in 2010 that would have a list that could be topped by Lebron James, will lead to less money being spent this off-season. So if Shawn is going to take a serious pay cut it may make sense he would just want to go to a team that offers him the best chance to win. Bryan Colangelo is still going to explore the idea of a sign and trade for Marion if he indeed can not come to terms with Marion on contract to remain in Toronto. Want a guy that could also be out there and could fill Marion’s locker and shoes for the Raptors? How bout Ron Artest. He has been huge in the Rockets and Lakers series that is going on as I am writing this. Colangelo said in his post season press conference that the Raptors were to nice and lacked toughness. Ron Artest is tough rough and raw. He is one of the more talented defenders in the NBA. He can score and has a tremendous skill set. He is also a bit nuts but that may not be such a bad thing for a team that lacks fire and is full of nice guys. I have no idea if Artest would consider Toronto but if anyone out there thinks they can predict what Ron Ron is going to do please feel free to step up and let us know. He is perhaps the most unpredictable figure in the NBA since Dennis Rodman. He would be the ultimate risk if you brought him here but Houston with ex-Raptor T-Mac could never get out of round 1. Ron Artest on board in Houston and they do. So the Rockets may be the first to tell you it is a risk worth taking. There is also a number of others to deal with contract wise. Anthony Parker, Joey Graham, Pops Mensah-Bonsu and a number of others have deals that are coming to an end. Parker is willing to be back and even as a back-up. He loves the city and would like to remain. Graham and MensahBonsu have also expressed a desire to stay. But given the way the season went not everyone is going to be invited or wanted back. Pops would be at the top of my list to bring back. What the Raptors decide to do with Marion will have an impact on what happens with everyone else. If you want questions though the NBA Draft is full of them. About the only thing all the experts seem to agree on is that

Blake Griffin of Oklahoma will be selected with the number 1 pick. The NBA Lottery on the 19th of May has set the draft order. Trouble is when I am writing this it is not yet the 19th of May. But playing the odds the Raptors chances of getting into the top 3 are very slim. If they have been that lucky they would have 3 guys to look at. Griffin is going number 1 unless we have a major shock. The next 2 on my list would be Ricky Rubio the Spanish youngster that was stealing minutes from Jose Calderon in the Olympics last year. The other is a large massive Hassem Thabeet. He is a huge guy from the standpoint of height. He was a huge force for the UConn Huskies and is a defensive force. He perhaps could be the best player in this draft. He needs to bulk up but I am impressed with the kid. Raptors would be selecting around 9 or 10 depending on those lotto results if the Raptors did not win. Lots of options at that point and none a sure thing. Bryan Colangelo has said he will be searching for a second first round draft pick. So maybe we will get more deep into the draft in the next issue. However the bottom line of the draft for the Raptors is walk away with a player that can contribute right away. They need a player regardless of position they just need a player. However the obvious need is the SG or SF spots for the Raps. For as much as I have just wrote that is only scratching the surface of things on what will be going on this off season. The Raptors will look much different for the 09/10. Given the way the 08/09 season they better be at least.

THEREBIRTH:

LILWAYNE

regards to copyrights on some of the sampling used on the album.

By Joel Persaud

One of the greatest hot steps in the music industry will be once again hitting up the world with a new flavour that will ROCK you! Historically known as one of the members of the Hot Boys in the 90’s, Cash Money/ Universal Motown Records own Lil Wayne, also known as Weezy ‘F’ Baby, is on the verge of releasing his seventh album. Selling over 6 million albums in his thirteen year career and 2.5 million copies going multi platinum with his latest album ‘Tha Carter III’ Wayne is back to hit up the industry with another epidemic.

Lil Wayne is known for his hard work and has embraced his talents to travel into a totally new innovative route aiming to hit a higher artistic level. The release will bring Wayne’s music career into an evolution of new genres: The album is titled ‘Rebirth’. The album was thought to be released in the beginning of April, but it was then postponed until late May and once again pushed again to the final date June 21 2009. What’s up with the delay? The main reason cited is that the contents on various tracks are still not fully processed with

‘Rebirth’ has been called a “different” album for Wayne, as it will be Wayne’s first fully fledged ROCK album. ROCK!? Many people may be saying WTF?, but according to Wayne “It’s just me maturing...expressing me in a whole new form”. In an interview with Baby (Co-CEO of Cash Money Records) he confronts the issue saying that, “When you speak about a rock record, you think ‘he’s got a guitar and everything’, but it’s not that. It’s going to be some of those types of beats, but it’s just great music. I don’t think any artist can do what he’s about to get done. My son is a rock star.” The release of ‘Prom Queen’ in January (the first leaked track from Rebirth) was a teaser to the fans and the billboards, which responded fairly well. The first buzz single reached #15 on the billboard hot 100 charts followed by another leaked single ‘Hot Revolver’ at #33. In a recent interview at MuchMusic with Young Money’s affiliate Drake, he addresses the genres in the album ‘Rebirth’ as “something different, in just that whole 808’s and heartbreaks, just throwing off individuals”. This may seem typical in the eyes of consumers, with the auto tone effect enhancing his voice into a robotic melody, but with Wayne on it this is going to be ecstatic! “Rebirth” will have several different features on the album such as Avril Lavigne, Aubrey “Drake” Graham, Fall Out Boy and Lenny Kravitz. The album will also feature production from DJ Infamous and Drew Correa, Cool & Dre and Develop with various other rock samples. From Dre’s producer prespective, heinsists that “There’s some rock records on the album, but there’s also some records where he’s rapping. It’s a Lil Wayne album. It’s what you expect from Lil Wayne, he’s expressing himself musically.” In addition to Rebirth, Wayne is still working on ‘Tha Carter IV’, the Hot Boys reunion LP and an album featuring all the artists on his Young Money label, including Mack Maine, Jae Millz, Kid Kid, Nicki Minaj and Drake. With out any further adieu, if you want in on this revolution, the album drops midAugust 2009.

s i h getting T e z y l Ana to know

D’TELFON Let’s start with how did the name D Teflon come about? Well the truth is that the name came about as sort of a joke one night sitting in a hotel room with Ja Rule shortly when I nearly lost my eye in a situation protecting him on the job and the fact that in the incident I sustained a dozen stitches in my eye it didn’t stop me from being on the job the next day he basically said your built like Teflon. At first the people who I was in the room laughed but as time went on and I took a look at all the things I have been thru over the years from being stabbed nearly to death on the job losing my home at one point in a fire to overcoming numerous health issues even from birth to be here and the fact that it seemed no matter what curve ball was thrown at me in my life people always used to say where do u get the strength from to keep going and a lot of times I would say I just don’t know its my inner strength but eventually one day I took a good long look and said hey Ja may be on to something I must be made of Teflon and have that sort of protector around me that keeps me safe not only from being able to endure amounts of pain to my body but more of in the mind from breaking down in an industry of entertainment where only the strong survive if you want to make something out of nothing and for me I had taken along time to build my company to the level where it is at now. I realized that the Alliance Entertainment company was about the people around me in my circle in building my empire I couldn’t have done it alone but I needed something that was symbolizing not just a nick name but who I am inside and also to recognize and separate the work and individual accomplishments I have done in my life and also the people I want around me to relate to that we all who fall in this world of entertainment

25

who put there bodies thru hell not just for us but for the love of what we do but for the people who depend on us for that source of entertainment we are all whether your in the film industry or sports industry there is a lot of sacrifices that we go thru if you want to be the best and give out the best possible product and I strongly believe and I felt that if you can find that inner Teflon within yourself you can get thru anything and pretty much the name caught on thru Hollywood cause people saw my work ethic that I just kept going and going and thru marketing it thru my publicist it just sort of took off and the rest was history pretty much is a given once your in the biz every artist talent always wants to separate there persona and Brand a name for me I look at the name now more of a lifestyle... I noticed you made a statement saying ‘’ In this country, you gotta make the money first. Then when you get the money, you get the Respect. Then when you get the respect you get the power, then when you get the Power then you get the women.” What is the personal life of mister Teflon like...with the money, power & respect given to you? Well my personal life is far different from my professional life people who know me know that on the personal level no that I keep it pretty real.... As peers and the industry may put me in the category as a celeb me myself have never looked at myself in anyway that more of an individual who wanted things that much more then maybe the next person and was willing to do whatever it took to get to the top with-

out screwing people over in the process to get there...I always try to stay true to me and not really worry too much about what people have to say or think about me just because people will always have something to say negative and positive but for me my motto is if they are gonna talk give them something to talk about...and for me I work hard and play hard but at the end of the day to me its just a job...I try to keep my private life exactly that, people assume when u have success thrown your way or that when your in the entertainment biz your life consist of partying all night but for me maybe when I was younger but now I pretty stay pretty under the radar when I’m not working, I’m staying in a lot more these days I’m an avid cook being a former chef I like to spend a lot of time in the kitchen if I am not doing that I write a lot of poetry and on a nice day I love going down to the park and just clearing my head feeding the ducks in the pond... yeah I know what you’re gonna say but something about ducks I have always had this kind of love for. You mentioned David Fralick as your mentor who inspired you to get into acting…how exactly was he an inspiration to you? Well there are actually 3 people that I

consider my biggest inspirations but the first one is a funny story in itself in the early 90’s I got hooked on the soap opera the young and the restless where David played the character Larry Warton and not only was a fan favourite because of his bad boy persona but he became a reflection later in his character on a guy who didn’t have the silver spoon handed to him in his mouth made some mistakes along the way was down on his luck didn’t really have people he could turn to that put him in situations where he found himself in a lot of trouble did his time then decided after he wanted to make something of himself but was quickly judged because of the past and people not wanting to give someone a chance cause feeling like they weren’t worth a damn...and to be honest myself and a lot of people out there can related being in a situation where people judge u but don’t even know u and eventually in his character on the show he was proof that if you work hard and you take the negatives people throw at you as motivation to prove them wrong you will do just that. And over the years I watched him in various films and TV shows that his on camera presence was something that I respected but to later many years after watching him for so long we some how connected to find out the man David Shark in many ways was no different then the character a true bad ass mofo but a guy who truly worked his ass off and keeps it real. I respect him so much and he has been a great friend and a very important influence on me in such a positive way He is truly one of the people in this biz that many people should be inspired to be like as a person in the shady world of show biz its so hard to find real people and he is one of those people... The 2nd influence would have to be most definitely too me one of the greatest actors to ever step onto the screen and I don’t mean Al Pacino or Robert Denerio who yes are great actors but to me if you were to ask me the best by far is Kiefer Sutherland, JACK Bauer himself. From his days to lost boys to now I was hooked and I knew this guy would go onto be one of the best but another guy who I admire

and to me is the one goal I have left in this biz is to one day meet and work with him. He is another guy who yes has made some poor choices but bounces back always and has that Teflon to keep pushing on...and the 3rd would have to be may he RIP a man who guided me when I first came to L.A was the legendary director producer actor Syndey Pollack a man who I was so honoured to know there will never be another one like him to me he will always be pops...cause he was sort of like a father figure Who are some of your favorite Celebrities you have worked with and why? Well I have worked pretty much with everyone and they are all great and some so so but the ones that stand out I guess for me who I always just felt at ease with and also you work with some people who you feel as just your another body and there are others who truly appreciate that your willing to put it all on the line for who you really relate to on a personal level would have to be Ja Rule LL & Morgan Freeman as top 3 Ja for just being straight up the realest cat and his take no crap mentality is what I love about working with him and we really bonded like brothers the first time we linked and he just knows how to enjoy life LL who to me is called the greatest of all time for many reasons he is probaly the most humble person who is an international icon and sex symbol world wide is probaly one of the most intelligent and postive people you will ever eet and never takes anything for granted and is always everyday appreciative of what he has takes time to always show that if you stay focused anything is possible and the man the myth the legend Morgan freeman to me is on the top of that list and truly one of the funniest men in the biz who off and on camera is always a joy to work with and he makes going to work when were on projects that much enjoyable he was sort of like the dad i never had even though I owe alot of my determnation from my father Morgan gave good advice to me on numerous times so Im greatful to have had the honour to work for him. Did you ever think you would get this far

in the entertainment business and the life that you’re living now? To be honest I don’t try to think about it I think there is mainly alot of luck involved in this biz but you have to be very passionate to make a career of it and also make a living off it too...how many people you see in this biz are on top the next are gone and forgotten within minutes I vowed when I was done that would not be me I just go out there and try to do what I gotta do and no that I am satisfied at the end of the day with the job I’ve done...I don’t ask for handouts no will I take them I believe in letting your own work show the reward my life trust me has been no picnic but I am just thankful to have the opportunity to work with so many great people and yes the life can be a bit of a rollercoaster and at times I wake up and wonder how I got myself into this.. lol but to me I didn’t do this for fame I didn’t do this for money I did this because one day I woke up and said I

don’t want to be remembered as nothing or give the haters who doubted me the chance to say I told u so...So I mainly do this for 3 reason my father who made me the man I am today and who gives me the strength to be able to live a life to be able one day to take care of my loved ones and most important to give back to the ones who don’t have the opportunity to reach there dreams because of the poverty or environment there in. How do you do what you do with such continued success? Well I dont look at what I do as a success story I look at it more as progress story success to me is something you have when your finished and you can look back on what you have done and smile knowing that you accomplished all you wanted for me if I didnt go thru the things I have gone thru in my life I dont think I would have even have made it this far staying grounded and not getting worried too much about the downside I spend time focusing more on the postive trying

27

to just do what I do better then anyone else for me I look at life is a reflection on what you have done overtime and the key is to not to take the negativity seriously as a friend once said to me it is show biz and it is a buisness people will say one thing to your face and do another behind your back so if you spend time worry about peoples actions and motives you will never get to where you want so I just try to everyday think as if and that for me takes the pressures off u think as if you have already finished the race and you are in first place and everyone else is trying to catch up so as long as u stay one head of the game and stay true to you that to me is the true way to maintain the progress to turn it into success. The Key is not to think too far ahead but always have a plan but take one day at time find something your good at and find that passion to make it work and something u can do better then anyone else some people do this biz for a job an others do it for money and others do it because of passion ..If you come into the biz only thinking about how much millions your gonna make u most likely wont survive a year but if you coming into it with a passion and keep it humble u are most likelyy to succeed...I lost my home a few years back in a fire and I never thought I would be able to recover from that but if i cant worrying about the things I couldn’t control I never would have been able to move fwd and its the same in biz your gonna have set backs but its about taking those setbacks as a lesson to be smarter in doing buisness deals later. Reflecting back to your early years, is there anything you would have done different decisions you would have made differently to contribute to your current success?

I probably would have taken more time to not be so trusting to people that I should have but I have no regrets I think making mistakes is a part of life my father always said make as many mistakes as long as you learn never to make the same mistake twice....So i take everything good and bad as a contribution to reaching success because you really wont be able to test what you can handle if you didn’t have those mistakes but like I always say greatness in this biz isn’t what you accomplish in your life its what you overcome that matters. Keeping it short...last but not least based on your experiences I would like to ask what words or wisdom and encouragement can you can share with our readers? You are what you are in this World either your a Somebody or a Nobody. There are 3 types of people in this world...Those who Chase Dreams… Those who Fear Them.. award coverage

DJ of the year: ILL KIDZ

My peoples at the Industry Mag invited us to do a interview regarding our recent sucess and on winning the Stylus Toronto Dj of the Year Award.. I suggested that they give me the opportunity to conduct the interview myself (Ricochet) with my partner Juice and they actually agreed... (What were you guys thinking?) With that said me and the homie Juice kicked back with some of that good ‘ol stuff and strarted talking

Ricochet: In your words tell me who are the ILL KIDZ Juice: The ILL Kidz are the DJ equilivelent of the Thunder Cats.. Each member offers their own special set of skills and delivers it with authority.. When we come together we are a force that cannot be stopped.. The only difference is we can’t physically Fly... YET!! We are basically the dj versions of Super Heroes.. You know like Batman and shit!!

Ricohet: Wow...that’s a new one.. Juice: Ya damn skippy it is...

Ricochet: How did “The ILL KIDZ” come to be And who are the members? Juice: We started out in the game around ‘93 with 3 original members Myself ( Juice), You (Ricochet), and our manager at that time AZ. Around that time me and you had started to dabble with the idea of being DJ’s. Our childhood friend AZ had moved out of the hood and was already a Dj working with other cats playing house parties in Malton and Rexdale. Since we were all doing the same thing and were friends since we were little bad ass kidz we decided that we would pool our efforts and create a “soundcrew”.. As time passed AZ went on to pursue other opportunities. The crew now consists of you (Ricochet), myself (Juice), our latest addition to the sound B Ware a MTL native who relocated to Toronto in 2006, and our business side which includes members Sho and Lenny S

Ricochet: Explain to the readers how the Ill Kidz name came about Juice: After we decided to go ahead with the whole sound thing the task of choosing a name was upon us..a couple of weeks had passed by and all the names we had come up with were just not cutting it.. After a day of messing around the hood indulging ourselves with the local “Kazooba” (which is basically ill kid terminology for “that good shit”) the name ILL KIDZ popped up.. Right away we knew that was the name that best described us then and continues to describe us now.. them ILL KIDZ Ricochet: Give a break down about some of our early influences Juice: Early on in our career we were heavily influenced by pioneers such as Mastermind, Dj Grouch, Elite Squad, Kid Capri, Ron G, and Baby Blue.. Im sure you remember the night at Lord G Ross Park in Toronto’s north end when we went to party at one of the biggest Blocko’s I had ever seen in my life..We are talking nearly 3000 people jammed in a public park lined with a huge stage and some serious sound. Me and you were high as kite’s and witnessed our bigger brothers pave the way by dropping dub after dub of straight heatery.. From then on we knew that was the route we we’re meant to follow Ricochet: Ummmm not to get off topic.. But you think you can pass the kazoooba brah Juice: Just coooool nuh Ricochet: Lol...Fucker.. Ricochet: Getting back on topic.. In your words what makes us the ILL KIDZ Juice: Very simple mang!! A Pack of smokes, a bottle of henny, 2 Red Bulls, 2 turntables, a cordless mic, a club waiting to be shut down, the simple idea to party like rockstars, and a slogan that Vancity Promoters Gman & Rizk passed on to us at a yonge age.. “Have fun while you do what you do and the rest will fall in place..” Ricochet: What was your first reaction when you found out that we were nominated for Toronto DJ of the Year? Juice: To be honest we were not really suprised. In fact extreamly greatfull to be nominated amongst some of the greatest Dj’s in the world... It is always a good feeling to know that what you do is respected and appreicated especially when it’s coming from your peers.

Ricochet: How did you feel when you heard our name called as the winners of that Toronto DJ of the Year? Juice: I felt love my dude.. The brotherly love that me and you share.. To know that everything that we went through, the struggles, the ups, the downs, the arguing, the partying, that shit all paid off.. Walking to the stage all I could think of were memorable flashbacks through our career that led us to this point. Ricochet; I fell you on that one. Ricochet: Share with the readers what some of our aspirations are for the future? Juice: We are at that point in our career where we are focusing on sharing our brand with the world.. Taking what we do to every corner of the earth and giving people an opportunity to share in our adventures. In other words WORLD DOMINATION.....Yuh zee it! Ricochet: I see it!! lol.... female DJ of the year: lissa monet How long have you been DJing? I’ve been DJ’ing in the basement since 2002 but professionally since 2008. How did you get stated? I just hung around a lot of DJs during college. I would always know the music no matter what it was - old school, soca, retro, hip hop r&b, until one day my boy kapm kirk from 4 Korners said, “why dont you just learn to mix?’ and he taught me and the rest is history =] What unique elements do you feel that you bring as an artist? I just play for the people really, and i get behind the parties that I am spinning at. I just want to let everyone know where I am playing at so they can come out and expeirence different concepts and events that I spin at. Who are your artistic inspirations? Definitely Jay-Z and Mary J Blige. I was a HUGE fan of 90s hip hop and r&b growing up and they were definately my influences. I am a huge fan of Claude Monet the painter hence the DJ name *wink*. I just like to ‘paint a picture’ ,create a story and build a vibe when im spinning. Is there any specific genre that you prefer to stick too when you are spinning? It really depends on the party but I love to play everything - hip hop, r&b, house, electro, old new it doesnt matter, if it sounds good I’ll play it! Are you currently working with any artists? If so, who? I just finished a mixtape with Andreena Mill called ‘Ready To Fly’ which is on the net for download. I’m also currently working on a mixtape project called ‘Unheard Of’ that features unheard of

artists making a buzz in their city. The goal is to get listeners to become fans of artists that they have never heard of before. What big events do you have coming up? I just got hired to DJ at an Idris Elba party on June 30th and I will be spinning at Wayne Warner’s All White Wear Affair in July. Of course Caribana is jam packed too! What was your first reaction when you found out that you were nominated for Female DJ of the Year? I was honored then I was ready to get back to work =] How did you feel when you heard your name called as the winner of Female DJ of the Year? I cant lie my stomach dropped. My speech was kin dof lame but I made sure I thinked the people who brought me to where I am right now. Thats important. What are your aspiration for the upcoming year? To keep making mixtapes. My blog readers really seem to like them, so the goal is to do more this year than i did last year. Any final thoughts? Just for everyone to check out http://lissamonet.com/blog =] Anyone you want to shout out? Yes! I want to shout out my fam: Joanne from Real Mark Global Group, Jester from Smash Squad DJs (another Stylus winner), DJ Wristpect, my boy JDiggz who just shot a music video for his new single ‘What Cha Sippin On’ and thats it! *smile*

Eminem has confirmed that he is planning to reunite his Detroit crew, D12, and release the first new album from the group in five years. Eminem told BET’s “Rap City: The Relapse” special on Friday that D12 are planning to hit the studio soon to begin work on the disc. The yet-unnamed album from the crew will be their first since the death of member Proof three years ago, a death that Eminem has

said caused him to go into a depressive spiral of drugs. “Me and the guys, we got a bond, it’s special,” Em said of the group, which also includes Bizarre, Kon Artis, Kuniva and Swifty. “It’s like, as far as the future of D12, we’re gonna be back in the studio soon.” Part of the reason Eminem said he decided to reform the group for a third album was because of his respect and love for Proof, who was his best friend and one of his biggest supporters when the then-unknown D-Town MC was trying to make a name for himself. “Right now, my music would probably be the same if Proof was still alive,” Em said in the “Rap City” interview. “I think this is what Proof always wanted, was for me to go crazy again. My life would be different because I would still have him.” IRV GOTTI SAYS EM ISN’T BETTER THAN JAY. Irv Gotti recently told Mtv that he didn’t agree with their top rappers’ list. He took exception to Eminem ranking in the top spot. “I got a thing with Eminem,” Gotti said. “This has nothing to do with the beef. I don’t really feel like I have beef with Eminem. This has no hatred or nothing. This is just my opinion on it. Vibe did a thing, and they had him as the #1 rapper. Shit, like that kinda pisses me off. You know why? Because let’s take Eminem’s records. Watch my analogy. Eminem is a great artist, no doubt. He puts words together, he’s witty, a smart lyricist, a great lyricist. But how can we say the guy is the best rapper alive? Look at Hov. He makes real records. Every one of Eminem’s first singles is some clown shit. He’s clowning. Is that the #1? That’s not my #1 rapper, man.” Gotti said he also factored in the battle element in deciding that Jay-Z is better than Em. He said that back in the day, Slim Shady wouldn’t have a chance against a young Jay or DMX and Ja Rule, for that matter. “No disrespect, you’re a great lyricist, but I come from a school. I know they ‘battled’ in ‘8 Mile’ but I come from where they battled on the streets with guns out,” the head of Murder Inc. said. “They would have put you under pressure. All that ‘off the top,’ they would have put you under pressure. I been to battles with X, Jay and Ja, that was some real shit. Homie, you wouldn’t been able to survive. These niggas was going with written shit. In your grill. X would say, ‘I don’t walk, I stalk, living foul.’ Saying some shit you wouldn’t been able to withstand.” You would have been like, ‘My name is Em and I eat M&Ms. I eat you.’

What?” Irv laughed. He said the Detroit legend would have been greeted with three harsh words: “ ‘Shut the fuck up!’ It would have been a ‘shut the fuck up’ moment off the top. Dame Dash would have been like, ‘Look at him. He’s crunchy! He’s wack!’ Then I look at the singles he put out. They’re all good, but they only work for him. I say take Eminem, and let him say ‘Hard Knock Life.’ Still hot. Now let’s have Jay-Z say the ‘We Made You’ song. They would laugh him out the fucking building. ... It would be over.” Irv finished by saying the best rapper alive has to be Jay-Z or Lil Wayne. KANYE BACK IN THE LAB Kanye West is back in the lab, and there’s only word to describe his new rhymes: “awes-mazing”, He told MTV. “I kill that rap shit, that’s what I do,” he said of his upcoming opus. “Lyrics right now, they’re awes-mazing. They’re basically untouchable. I’m about to take it to a whole ‘nother level. I’d be scared if I was not me.” Kanye said he’s always making an album, because he comes up with lyrics just by having conversations with people. He still doesn’t write his rhymes down and hasn’t in six years. The composing process is obviously working out for him. “As far as rapping goes, how can I say this? Jordan, Michael Jackson — it’s what I do,” West told us recently comparing his greatness on the mic to what the Mikes do in their respective arenas. “It’s time for me to bust another rap album.” BLACK EYED PEAS ARE #1. Black Eyed Peas’ “The E.N.D.” bows at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling 304,000 -- the hip-pop act’s best sales week ever. It’s also the first No. 1 album for the group, which had previously gone as high as No. 2. Its last set, 2005’s “Monkey Business,” bowed in the runner-up slot with a then-best 291,000. It had the unfortunate luck to come out the same week as Coldplay’s “X&Y,” which kept the Peas’ at bay when it started at No. 1 with 737,000. THE GAME GOES HOUSE ARREST. The Game is set to star in the new movie “House Arrest” with actress Stacey Dash. Dash will star as a “high maintenance girl who meets a quick money scheming man.” The new “dramedy” will be directed by Billy Washington and produced by Cassius Verson Weathersby who’s worked on such films as “You Got Served,” “The Great White Hope” and “D.C. Cab.”

DMX SAYS HE’S READY. DMX says he’s ready to get back into the game. In a new interview with Vibe-- DMX says, “I’m working on the album right now-- Getting this sh*t done. I got a few more songs to go. I got a crazy joint with Sean Kingston. F*cking sick, yo. Fire. And I got some sh*t with Swizz that’s ridiculous… I just hit Kanye West the other day for some beats. Also, the same people that I been f*cking with, like Dame Grease. I’ve been working on this project for so long, I forgot who else gave me f*cking beats… I wanna shut n*ggas the f*ck up! I’m still on probation, so it is what it is. I’m just working man. That’s where my focus is, work… Hopefully the album comes out this year. I’m just getting it done. The release will be in the hands of the powers that be.” LLOYD SAYS HE’S DONE WITH THE INC. After three albums with Irv Gotti’s The Inc., R&B singer Lloyd is ready for a change of scenery. “I’m ready for a change,” says Lloyd. “There’s no bad blood. I just feel I need to take more control over my career and get a fresh start. Hopefully Irv can understand my position.” The 23year-old singer/songwriter says there’s “no bad blood” between him and The Inc. but stressed that he feels his relationship with the label has “run its course.” Lloyd is currently working on a new mixtape and finalizing plans for his yet untitled fourth album. “We have plans to get in the studio with Jim Jonsin, The Runners, Cool & Dre, Rodney Jerkins and others,” he says. “In the future, I still hope to work with Irv as a producer as well.” Lloyd noted he is eager to explore opportunities that will allow him to take his career to the next level and offer a vehicle for him to supply his fans with more great music. Commenting on Lloyd’s relationship with The Inc., Lloyd’s manager, Henry “Noonie” Lee, said, “We find ourselves in limbo for the second time in three years. It’s frustrating to know that opportunities to advance Lloyd’s career are out there but we can’t exploit them due to our current situation. Even though Lloyd is appreciative of the opportunity that has been afforded him by The Inc., he feels it’s time for him to move on and seek opportunities that will allow him to build and enhance his brand.” Founded by music executive Irv Gotti and formerly known as Murder Inc., The Inc. last month announced the release of singer Ashanti from her contract. The label has also ended its three-year joint venture with Universal Records and has yet to partner with another major label.
