A relationship exists between instructor behaviors and student performance.

Students learn in different ways and have different readiness levels.

The focus should be on ability, not disability: achievement, not errors.

Multiple methods of instruction, including “learn by doing” results in higher levels of student performance.

Effective instructional methods can be learned and developed.

Star Babies (Parent/ Child) For ages 6 months to 3 years old, this class introduces young children and their parents to water experiences in a fun and safe manner. Parents and children explore pre-swimming activities though songs and games in a group setting. This class is for children who aren’t quite ready to be in an independent preschool swim.

Preschool Swim Lessons For ages 3 to 5 years, children in the Preschool level begin to learn basic swimming without parent assistance. Children will play a variety of in-water activities and games to learn how to blow bubbles and submerge their heads under water. This level leads the student to become more independent in the water.

Youth Group Lessons

Elk Grove Park District swim lessons follow the Starfish Swim School curriculum. The curriculum consists of six achievement levels after our preschool lessons. Each level uses various lead-up water skills to achieve benchmarks which are to be reached in order to pass to the next level.

Diving Lessons This class teaches the basic skills involved in diving from the side of the pool, from starting blocks, and off of a one meter diving board.

Private Lessons-Ask about adult lessons! Student receives one-on-one instruction to help improve their skills. Private Lessons are recommended for students having difficulty mastering skills in a group setting and for those that prefer one-onone instruction. All sessions will be booked at the time of registration. Private lessons will be based on facility and instructor availability.

Aquatics Registration Start Dates: R: Aug 7 /NR: Aug 12 Please register online and at the Pavilion Customer Service desk, Pavilion Aquatics Center or Al Hattendorf Center for all aquatics programs.

soccer House soccer is the introductory level of soccer offered by the Elk Grove Park District and the Soccer Advisory Board, with the help of volunteer coaches. The league offers 1 clinic per week for all House players run by its professional trainers. Volunteer coaches coach 1 game a week, typically on Saturday, and 1 practice a week. Typically games are played against other teams from Elk Grove in the same age group. General Information Warning of Risk

Services for the Disabled

Recreational activities/programs are intended to challenge and engage the physical, mental, and emotional resources of each participant. Despite careful and proper preparation, instruction, medical advice, conditioning, and equipment, there is still a risk of serious injury when participating in any recreational activity/program. Understandably, not all hazards and dangers can be foreseen. Depending on the particular activity, participants must understand that certain risks, dangers, and injuries due to inclement weather, slipping, falling, poor skill level or conditioning, carelessness, horseplay, unsportsmanlike conduct, premises defects, inadequate or defective equipment, inadequate supervision, instruction or officiating, and all other circumstances inherent to indoor and outdoor recreational activities/programs exist. In this regard, it must be recognized that it is impossible for the Elk Grove Park District to guarantee absolute safety.

The Elk Grove Park District does not limit participation in programs due to a disabling condition. Customers with special needs are asked to contact Customer Service at (847) 437-9494 to make us aware of your special needs so we may contact NWSRA for assistance.

Accident Insurance The Park District does not carry medical or accident insurance for program participants. Participants should review their personal insurance before registering for Park District programs to be certain of adequate coverage.

Facilities All facilities participants are expected to follow the rules of the facilities. Specialty areas of the facilities (example: Pavilion Fitness and the Aquatics Center pools) have posted signs stating special rules specific to that area. Disregard or abuse of facility rules may result in removal by staff or police from the facility for a designated length of time or permanently.

Smoking All Park District indoor facilities, including spectator/viewing areas are designated as non-smoking areas including e-cigarettes. In addition, Village Ordinance no. 3074 is in full force and effect. This Ordinance states that it will be unlawful to smoke in unenclosed public places, including all parks, playgrounds, school grounds, public sidewalks within 10 -15 feet (per the State of IL law) of a public entrance, and the public right-of-way (sidewalk to sidewalk) along the routes of special events. Thank you for your cooperation.

Observers Observers of programs are also expected to behave appropriately. Parents, friends, and any other observers are held to the same standards of behavior as participants. If inappropriate behavior of a program observer is reported or observed by a staff person, the observer will be asked to leave by staff or police if necessary.

Warning: Lightning and Severe Weather Lightning is a hazard that must be viewed seriously. Players, coaches and spectators should stop play and immediately seek shelter any time they believe lightning or severe weather threatens them, even if a warning has not been issued. Thor Guard Lightning Prediction systems are installed at many locations throughout Elk Grove Village to aid in determining dangerous conditions. These systems normally monitor conditions from about April through October and are deactivated during the other months. Each location may have horns and a strobe light or just a strobe light. When lightning warning signals are issued, all players, coaches and spectators should immediately leave the fields and seek shelter in large buildings, appropriate shelters, automobiles or trucks. You should proceed to a known Severe Weather Shelter or other appropriate shelter if tornado sirens have also been activated or other severe weather conditions exist or are expected. The Thor Guard Lightning Prediction System will notify you as follows: Lightning imminent: One prolonged 15-second horn blast and strobe lights begin flashing. Reduced danger: Three 5-second horn blasts and strobe lights turn off. The Thor Guard systems help you assess lightning danger but they are not intended to guarantee safe conditions. The systems warn of potential lightning in the immediate area, usually within about 2 miles, and may not activate locally when lightning can be seen farther off in the distance. If you suspect the lightning prediction equipment located at your local Elk Grove Village park or facility is not working properly, please contact the Parks and Planning Department at (847) 437-9494.

Criminal Record Check Criminal record checks are completed for all employees. Checks are also completed for all volunteers and coaches working with children and/or seniors.

Code of Conduct Users shall abide by all rules and regulations and shall conduct themselves in a safe, considerate, and reasonable manner so as not to cause disturbance or to damage equipment or property. Users will display respect, consideration and courtesy to all members, participants, staff, and Park District property. The Park District reserves the right to discontinue an individual’s use or membership because of disruptive or unsafe behavior.

Help Protect Your Community! In an effort to reduce and eliminate senseless damage caused by arson, the Elk Grove Park District encourages you to report any information you have about individuals causing fire damage to Park District property. If the information you provide leads to the arrest of the arson perpetrator or conspirator, you may be eligible for a reward of up to $500. All communication between the arson tipster and the Park District are strictly confidential. The Elk Grove Park District will not release or disclose any information furnished by the arson tipster without the tipster’s explicit consent and approval. To provide a tip or get more information contact (847) 228-3499.

Vandalism Alert The Elk Grove Park District has experienced vandalism within several of its parks and facilities. We need your help to stop these criminal acts. If you witness anything suspicious, please immediately call 911. If you notice graffiti and property damage in the parks or District facilities, please call the Elk Grove Park District hotline at (847) 228-3502. You may also make a report on the comment area of our website, www. elkgroveparks.org. Any assistance from our residents is greatly appreciated in reporting and putting an end to these crimes. Please know that the Elk Grove Park District will prosecute perpetrators to the fullest extent of the law.

Healthy and Safe Parks Along with many other Park Districts, the Elk Grove Park District has adopted a reduced chemical policy when maintaining the lawn areas in our parks. However, for a short time each spring, you may see a few dandelions in our parks. These dandelions are sign that the Elk Grove Park District has limited the use of chemicals that are typically sprayed to control weeds. This is done in an effort to minimize the impact on our environment. We mow regularly to keep weeds down. According to natural lawn care basics, we try to keep our grass three to four inches high. This allows the roots to grow strong and access water deep in the ground. As a result, the taller grass naturally shades out some weeds. But, because we have reduced the use of chemical weed killers, dandelion flowers grow back quickly, oftentimes overnight. So, when you see a dandelion, just remember the grass is healthy and safe for you and your family. The Elk Grove Park District encourages all residents to use natural lawn care techniques. It’s a simple and cost-effective method of maintaining your green spaces.

Park / School Facility Use Through cooperative agreements the facilities of School Districts 54, 59 and 214 are made available for Park District programs. We thank these school districts for making their buildings available. If you need more information about policies and procedures, please contact us.

Residency

All Elk Grove Village residents may not be residents of the Elk Grove Park District. Residents that support Elk Grove Park District through property taxes are defined as Elk Grove Park District residents. The Elk Grove Park District is not a part of the Village of Elk Grove Government. The Elk Grove Park District is a stand-alone tax supported agency. You may have an Elk Grove Village address, but not pay taxes to the Elk Grove Park District. The quickest way to determine your Park District resident status is to check your resident tax bill. The park district you pay taxes to will be listed. If you reside in Elk Grove Village, but do not pay taxes to the Elk Grove Park District, you are eligible for the Non-Resident Household Membership. (See definition below) District residents will have priority registration as the dates of registration are listed in the seasonal brochures. Resident and non-resident fees are listed with the program information. When establishing a new household account with the Elk Grove Park District, and including an online account, each resident is required to prove residency in person. This is a matter of data verification to make sure we have the most updated information in our new system. Once completed, we will activate the online portion. Please bring one of the following items for each household member with you to set up your account: Adults (Over 18)

Dependent Children under 26

• Current resident utility bill within the last month • Property tax bill • Current drivers’ license or government issued ID • Passport

• Birth certificate • Health insurance card listing the minors • Passport

Non-Resident Household Membership

Elk Grove Village residents living outside the Elk Grove Park District boundaries (Bluejay, Cardinal, Cutter, Dierking, Doral, Fox Run Drive, Galleon, Gibson Drive #1500-1571, Greensboro Court, Hawk, Inverness, Lee, Longboat, Oriole, Pebble Beach Circle, Red Fox, Richard, Roppolo, Sara Court, Schooner, Sell, University, Vera, Vermont Drive 4 digit numbers, and Yale) and employees of Elk Grove businesses have the opportunity to receive resident rates. *Proof is required. The annual membership is $70 per family. To register for the Non-Resident Household Membership, please visit the customer service desk at the Pavilion or the Al Hattendorf Center.

Business Owner Rate Elk Grove Business owners, who reside outside the Elk Grove Park District, but who pay Elk Grove Park District taxes, are eligible to receive a discounted business rate on Park District programs. The business owner rate is equivalent to the listed resident rate, and business owners may register during the resident registration period. However, the participant is still considered a non-resident in terms of residency status. Business owners must prove ownership prior to registration.

Waiver and Release Form

A Waiver and Release of All Claims Form must be signed when registering yourself or your minor child for Elk Grove Park District programs. Your registration is not valid without a signed waiver. To ensure enrollment, please use our online or in person registration options.

Registration Registration Deadline

Don’t let a good class cancel! A good class might be canceled if you wait until the last minute to sign up. At some point we must make a decision as to whether a program or activity will take place. If that class has not registered a minimum number of participants it will be cancelled. So remember, save a class and register by the program registration deadline. Please refer to the Elk Grove Park District brochure for program registration deadlines.

Waitlist Class Confirmation

The registration office will contact you in case of a waitlist. If you do not receive a waitlist notice, your registration has been processed as requested. For registration inquiries, please call (847) 437-9494.

Withdrawal/Refund Policy

In order to receive a full refund, notification to withdraw from a program must be received by the registration deadline date. Please refer to the brochure for specific program registration deadlines. After the registration deadline, notification to withdraw from any program is initiated by completing a “Withdrawal/Refund Request Form” available at the Pavilion and Al Hattendorf Center customer service counters and online. Withdrawal/ refund requests made after the registration deadline may be assessed a 10% (minimum $5, maximum $25) service fee per program based on the total program cost. These requests must be initiated by completing a refund request form. After the class start date, withdrawals may be given on a pro-rated basis from the date of the submitted refund request, less the service fee. Withdrawals/refunds will not be issued after the class has been completed. A make-up class and/or refund will be arranged if a scheduled class is cancelled. Tickets are non-refundable. Individual programs may have specific refund policies. These programs include, but may not be limited to, Kid’s Club, Preschool, Athletic Associations, Adult Leagues and Swim Team. Please refer to these programs for their specific policies. Due to the demand for participation in Park District programs and the limited number of spaces available, refunds will not be issued for classes that participants are unable to attend.

Trip Withdrawal/Refund Policy

Notification to withdraw from a trip is initiated by completing a “Trip Refund Request Form,” available at the Pavilion and Al Hattendorf Center customer service counters. Refunds will not be issued on or after the registration deadline unless the ticket is resold to another patron or the trip is cancelled.

Customer Satisfaction

Your satisfaction is our goal. We’d like to hear about your experiences with Elk Grove Park District programs and services. Share your comments with us online at www. elkgroveparks.org by clicking on “Contact Us” at the bottom of the page.

Brochure Changes/Errors Disclaimer

Thank you for your patience and understanding when these situations arise.

Photo/Video Disclaimer Photographs and videos are periodically taken of people participating in Elk Grove Park District programs and activities. All persons participating in Park District programs/activities or using Park District property thereby agree that any photograph or video taken by the Park District of yourself and/or your child/ ward may be used by the Park District without limitation for the promotional purposes including, but not limited to, posting the photograph/video on the Park District’s website, and/or its promotional videos, brochures, fliers, and other publications without additional prior notice or permission, and without compensation to the participant. Such productions may be copied, copyrighted, edited, and distributed by the Elk Grove Park District in the manner described above. Objections must be made in writing and filed with the Elk Grove Park District. Written objections may be submitted to: Elk Grove Park District, Administration Building, 499 Biesterfield Road, Elk Grove Village, IL 60007, and should include your and/or your child/ward’s name, address, phone number, your signature and the date and current photo of the individual who objects to being photograped or videotaped.
