But on the other hand, that means you don’t have that many competitors and it’s a good chance for you to become well-known in design.

Sure, but it’s better when you have rivals. It’s a good challenge, it makes me feel more enthusiastic and purposeful.

What is your education?

I am an architect, I was studying at university in Astana for 5 years. That was a great, exciting experience. I learned a lot, especially about how to think constructively - not just about design but also about life in general.

was born in Almaty (Kazakhstan) and says it’s a city where you have to travel just once to understand that it’s impossible not to come there back again.

Where do you live at the moment?

I’ve been living in Astana for the last 14 years. It has been evolved from the small city to the big administrative center, full of incredible skyscrapers. Somebody calls it a soulless city but I can’t agree with that. Nowadays there are some conjectures about Kazakhstan in the world. However, it is the center of Eurasian continent, it’s full of ancient history, unique traditions, mineral wealth. Our folk is ordinary but sincere and friendly.

Talking about Kazakhstan, how do people treat design there?

Creative sphere has just started developing here.

We have several famous graphic companies, artists, illustrators, architects, who deserve attention. Their works have been published and honored abroad. But there is still a lack of persevering people in Kazakhstan.

Have you been working after graduation?

I worked in an architectural bureau, trying to implement knowledge gained at uni. But I had bounded working conditions there, so I couldn’t use all force I had. And I quit. After that I was making magazines during some time. We published them together with my friend and spread it out for free in cooperation with restaurants, cafes and clubs. That was a successful project but later we decided to suspend it and move on.

And after that you’ve been studying in London, haven’t you?

Exactly. I’ve been to Central Saint Martins taking a course of applied imagination in the creative industries. It perfectly supplemented my knowledge in design sphere. Now I’m used to think beyond the bounds and nothing seems impossible for me in the world anymore. It’s worth risking and doing totally unpredictable things – that’s what I learned there.

Do you feel lack of something in your city after you came back home?

Let me think. I wish we had creative workshops here. Also, qualitative book stores, galleries, exhibitions. I’m not an expert in art but I love it. I like to scrutinize art works of people who were making huge effort to create something really good.

What else is interesting for you?

I’m really keen on architecture in general. I was working within various spheres but architecture still remains a part of me, it’s inside my DNA. In a way, it was bringing me up, and I would love to be back to that business.

ere are the last of my pictures H from Antwerp in Belgium – do take a scroll own to see what it’s all about! We discovered this shop called the Chocolate Box near the Cathedral and, well, how could I not stop for photos?! The shop had just expanded to accommodate a seating area and I adored the colour scheme.

A very sweet and helpful old lady helped me choose my choccies (I had to, I was in Belgium!)

The weather was lovely so I wore lots of airy, thin layers including my latest splurge, this H&M lace jacket and breezy New Look vest top which I wore as a “dress” to fashion week, much to all my friend’s disgust/bewilderment! My accessories of choice are also presents to myself, ASOS sunnies for a bit of fun and my New Look clutch in a colour I just can’t get enough of paired with pink! Below are some other cute places I discovered on my walks around the city. There was an adorable cupcake shop and a sweet cafe that we only got time to pose outside of! I can definitely advise visiting Antwerp, us Bloggers loved it!

Sonya (19) is totally unpredictable hurricane-girl. She is a child of the world, who is trying to find herself and therefore acting absolutely spontaneous. Sonya told us about her way of making a self-discovery.

Normally, young people are going straight to University after they finish high school. Why didn’t you do the same?

I love studying, but I wanted to learn more about life in general. I felt I needed to see the world, to put myself in different occasions to know what I am able to do and what not. University is very important part of every person’s life but you have to be ready for that. I was not.

I needed a break from being part of a system.

How did you imagine your future at THAT moment?

Could you to it at all?

To be honest I did not care much. I was looking for an escape from reality.

And what did you do to “check” yourself and your skills/abilities? You were travelling, right?

As soon as I finished high school, I started working for Disneyland in Paris.After 2 months of living abroad with my friend, I came back to Tallinn to take my things and then moved back to Paris. The salary was way enough for such an easy-going person as me, so I had enough money to spend on travelling as well. My favorite trip was probably to Egypt, where I learned a lot. But nothing teaches you more than streets and suburbs of Paris.

So was the most incredible thing you learned in Paris?

What influenced you the most?

The mix of different cultures trapped in one city of a

great illusion. Just imagine: native African people dancing to their music and Muslims sharing their native food, and on the other part of the street you will see a stylish French couple, who just dined delicious food and are about to take a ride on a bike to their flat in the centre.

You can meet artists and musicians just on the streets and there is no barrier between, this is amazing.

It’s the city of contrasts, isn’t it? and love!

But still you decided to move out from there and go back home…

Indeed, after some time I realized that everything I was escaping came back to me, though it was Paris. As I like to say “my honeymoon with a city is over”, so I had to come back. For good, I can always come back, but first I would like to have my feet on the ground! In Paris that would be almost impossible. I guess I have to learn how to speak French first :) So, what are you going to do next? Can you see your future now?

For me it is very important to be in the right place at the right moment. I still think globally while being in a place where I can be REALLY useful. It is very important right now to be together with my family, get into university and move into my own flat. I know it’s a hard work of getting back on track but I still believe in what I am

doing. It’s like with Peter the Great and Saint Petersburg, you know, somebody has to bring some enlightement from Europe, haha. With a little help of my friends and music I want to make my home-country better.

What inspires you the most at the moment?

People have always been a greatest inspiration for me.

I am really lucky to have an amazing relationship with artists and musicians all around the world, and especially with nowadays abilities of Internet. I can just check my friends twitter, soundcloud, tumblr or whatever to feel them.

Where do you want to study next year?

Though I have been sewing for 7 years already, I don’t mind having a greater degree in that.but as an option I really want to try myself in cinema and learn more about film making and media.

I visited Amsterdam and Berlin couple of times during this year. Also, while travelling to Egypt I stayed in Athenes for a while.

I love fashion! Yves Saint Laurent, Jean Paul Gautier, Armani, Michael Kors, Calvin Klein were always the highest standard for me. But now it’s time to form my own view, so if I make a research I would rather watch some native tribe costume or history book of costumes, than fall winter 2012. I just dont have enough time for that now!

The Belpaese (Beautiful Country) is one of the single greatest repositories of sensorial pleasures on earth.

From art to food, from stunning and varied countryside to flamboyant fashion, Italy has it all. This is the country that brought us Slow Food, devoted to the promotion of fresh products and fine traditional, cooking. What started as a local protest against fast food has become a worldwide movement.

With 44 sites, Italy has more Unesco World Heritage sites than any other country on earth. Its great citta d’arte (cities of art), like Rome, Venice and Florence, have been attracting visitors for centuries, and with good reason.

At times, it seems like the country rests on its artistic laurels. This is not entirely true. Milan, the country’s financial hub, has created one of Europe’s biggest and most modern trade fairs and is planning a major residential development, the CityLife complex, in the heart of the city. Venice is possibly the city that has, in appearance, changed least down the decades but it has recently opened a sleek new bridge over the Grand Canal and a spectacular contemporary art space at the Punta della Dogana.

Alongside Italy’s art treasures, you’ll find plenty to keep you busy in the countryside. You can ski in the Alps, hike the Dolomites or dive off Sardinia’s golden coast. Adrenalin junkies can catch fireworks on Sicily’s volatile volcanoes. But as much as all of this, a trip to Italy is about lapping up the lifestyle. It’s about idling over a coffee at a streetside cafe or lingering over a long lunch in the hot Mediterranean sun.

Lemonade obsession

John Daly Lemonade is a refreshing drink enjoyed by people of all ages across the world. It is prepared with lemon, water and sugar and is very simple to prepare. One can relish various types of this lemon drink in different countries. In some places, it is available as a carbonated drink, while in other places it is made in plain water.

Lemons are said to have been first found in North India, China and Burma, and was introduced in Persia, Arab countries, Iraq and Egypt in around 700 AD. Lemon was the main ingredient of various dishes and therefore, the beverage would have been introduced in a country where lemons were found. However, the first written evidence of its existence is found in Egyptian writings and so we have a reason to believe that it originated in Egypt. It is said that the peasants there, drank a wine made from lemon, date and honey. Some also believe that it was first introduced in France during the 16th century.

In Cairo, lemon drinks were not only favorites among the locals but were also exported during the 13th century.

Today, one can find different types of ready-made lemon drinks in the market. There are three basic types are clear, cloudy and fizzy. The clear variety is made in carbonated soda or in plain water without adding sugar.

This used to be a popular beverage in the European countries, however, in recent times, sweet versions are also available. The cloudy variety is a traditional drink made with plain water, lemon and sugar and is mostly found in India, USA and Canada. Fizzy lemon beverage is made of soda, using either natural or artificial lemon flavor and is also referred to as ‘sweet carbonated soft drink’.

PINK LEMONADE

Another variety is pink lemonade which is popular in the US. It is usually made out of beet juice and is sweeter in taste. There are a few funny stories about the creation of this drink. It is said that few drops of pink dye dripped from a horse rider’s tights, at a circus in new Jersey, into the lemonade made by Henry Griffith. As he did not have time to make it again, this was given to the customers and it became a huge hit. Another story says that pink lemonade was introduced by Henry. E. Allot, when he dropped a cinnamon candy in it by mistake. Although we are unsure about the way it was introduced, it is a drink loved by most people. These days, people make this drink by adding natural juices of grapes, cherries, red grapes and strawberries.

Today, it is preferred not only as an individual drink but is even mixed with various cocktails as well as hard drinks. Children in the US put up lemonade stands in their neighborhoods to make money during summers.

Nastya (19) was planning to become a doctor.

She was Master of Sports in wu shu and studied phylosophy. Now she has 3 jobs and none of them is connected with something mentioned before.

What are you doing at the moment?

I am working as administrator in theatre, as art-director in gallery and sometimes work up as a guide. These are not like office jobs, where you have to be punctual and live according some schedule. That’s why I like them, I have time for everything.

Did you study somewhere before?

I applied to university but didn’t even finish 1st semester of my Phylosophy faculty. I wasn’t really interested in that, I’m more into art, painting, photography. I decided to quit and now I don’t regret about it. My job makes me happy. I’m just 19 but I’ve already got so much experience! Creative people inspire me, I cannot imagine myself in any other business.

Is art really popular in Kiev?

Its popularity is on a quite high level. Young people are coming to our gallery to see what’s going on and we are constantly organizing lectures, workshop, other events for them. We are glad to see them and give some knowledge while they are happy to learn smth new. It’s like never ending feedback – we communicate this way.

There are still some people who don’t admit art and some kinds of artistic self-expression. They believe that art is something that everyone have to understand.

And if you can’t do it – there’s something wrong with the idea. It’s hard to change their minds. We are trying, though.

How do you see your future?

Honestly, some time ago I was planning to become a doctor, I even studied in medical college for some time.

I was also Master of Sports in wu shu. Pretty disconnected interests I had, huh? My parents didn’t try to cultivate any certain role model for me, they didn’t actually care about cultural heritage. In a way, I was raising myself on my own, following my heart. And now I want to get education within my competence - art. But I would prefer to get it abroad, in Europe. Just to see how it’s working there.

What inspires you the most?

Kiev. I was born here, I love the rhytm of the city, I love metro, motion, huge amount of people. I couldn’t live in a non-populous place. Kiev is really cosy city, people love to hang out together in lovely places, to talk, to visit exhibitions. To spend time wisely but chilling at the same time. And I adore Ukranian designers. We have lovely stores of our local fashionistas, with quite available prices. It’s popular here to wear this kind of exclusive clothes.

Seems like it’s worth visiting Kiev..

For sure. You should come, especially in May, when everything is blooming. It looks fantastic!
