Info center The Info Center can be consulted by IBE-BVI members for questions about: • legislation and standardization, • contacts between producers and suppliers, • technical studies, etc.

And we try very hard to help our members immediately!

Sectoral Operator in the field of Standardization IBE-BVI/SO has been recognized by the Belgian Bureau for Standardization (NBN) as a sectoral Operator (SO) for standardization activities at European and international level regarding packaging.

IBE-BVI/SO functions as the Belgian secretariat for the packaging sector (users and producers), more specifically regarding the work of CEN/TC 120-261 and ISO/TC 51-52-122.

IBE-BVI is also actively involved in several international CEN and ISO working groups defending the needs and interests of our members on a neutral basis with technical background support.

FAQ 1: Why is it important to have a certain knowledge of packaging?

A corrugated cardboard box is not just a simple box and a bottle is not just a recipient used to contain your drinks or chemicals! They were designed with care to optimize the material used (recycled, partly recycled or virgin) as well as its dimensions, its number of layers and thus its strength according to the product that will be packed in it, so that the product reaches the consumer in perfect condition.

Today, it is important to make well-considered choices, so it is important to know the basic characteristics of each material in order to make the best possible choice of adequate material and packaging concept for every single product.

It is therefore also useful to understand the interactions between product and packaging especially in the case of food or chemicals. Also, it is important to be aware of the legislation currently in force.

One of IBE-BVI’s important roles is knowledge-transfer regarding packaging. This is achieved through means of articles, single-day educational events or longer training courses. The IBE-BVI training courses are perfectly suited to meeting industry’s need for packaging knowledge. This can be achieved either through open training or through tailor-made, in-company formulas.

Experts from industry and government are welcome to participate in the standardization activities.

Packaging exhibitions IBE-BVI is a partner of Easyfairs. The mission of Easyfairs is to create the ultimate meeting place and thus inspire packaging professionals. The Easyfairs trade fairs are organized in the context of specific sectors, which for the packaging sector is the EMPACK fair.

IBE-BVI always gives lectures at Empack on the testing and analysis of packaging and packaging systems.

Every year, IBE-BVI is happy to guide visitors through the exhibition and answer all their questions about packaging and their testing, both in Belgium and in the Netherlands

With over 30 years’ experience, IBE-BVI specializes in: 1. Research and feasibility studies 2. Identification and preparation of projects and programs 3. Training and education 4. Establishment and/or reactivation of laboratories and packaging services 5. Technical and evaluation audit/reporting.

FAQ 2: I have a question regarding a material, a packaging, a test, a legislation or a standard, can I contact IBE-BVI? On the IBE-BVI website you can find an information request that you can use to send your question to the suitable person.

IBE-BVI member companies will be helped as soon as possible. Non-members can also contact IBEBVI with their requests. Depending on the kind of information required, the information will be forwarded, possibly subject to invoicing according to prior quotation.

One of IBE-BVI’s important roles is knowledge-transfer regarding packaging. This is achieved through means of articles, single-day educational events or longer training courses. The IBE-BVI training courses are perfectly suited to meeting industry’s need for packaging knowledge. This can be achieved either through open training or through tailor-made, in-company formulas.

Experts from industry and government are welcome to participate in the standardization activities.

Packaging exhibitions IBE-BVI is a partner of Easyfairs. The mission of Easyfairs is to create the ultimate meeting place and thus inspire packaging professionals. The Easyfairs trade fairs are organized in the context of specific sectors, which for the packaging sector is the EMPACK fair.

IBE-BVI always gives lectures at Empack on the testing and analysis of packaging and packaging systems.

Every year, IBE-BVI is happy to guide visitors through the exhibition and answer all their questions about packaging and their testing, both in Belgium and in the Netherlands

International Packaging Partner Services (IPP’s) IBE-BVI is a knowledge center that can assist companies in the start-up and development of packaging projects in and outside Belgium.

With over 30 years’ experience, IBE-BVI specializes in: 1. Research and feasibility studies 2. Identification and preparation of projects and programs 3. Training and education 4. Establishment and/or reactivation of laboratories and packaging services 5. Technical and evaluation audit/reporting.

FAQ 2: I have a question regarding a material, a packaging, a test, a legislation or a standard, can I contact IBE-BVI? On the IBE-BVI website you can find an information request that you can use to send your question to the suitable person.

IBE-BVI member companies will be helped as soon as possible. Non-members can also contact IBEBVI with their requests. Depending on the kind of information required, the information will be forwarded, possibly subject to invoicing according to prior quotation.

The holder of the certificate that is mentioned in the certificate is responsible for the validity of the certificate.

FAQ 6: Where are the Belgian & Dutch certificates valid?

The Belgian & Dutch UN- certificates may be used worldwide and can be used for the transport of dangerous goods for all modes of transport as long as the different transport regulations allow the use of the specific UN packaging. Companies all over the world may use the services and facilities of the IBE-BVI Group to obtain an UN-certificate. The only condition is the development and implementation of a quality management system including production and verification controls in accordance with the Quality Assurance Programme applicable in Belgium and the Netherlands.

FAQ 7: Which conditions must be fulfilled before packagings may be offered for testing and before the test report and UN certificate are received?

In addition to the documents that must be completed to be able to perform the required tests and certify the packagings, a signed document must be received from the company applying for an UN -certificate confirming that a quality management system will be developed and implemented in accordance with the above mentioned Quality Assurance Programme issued as TDG 38 in Belgium and as Guidelines in the Netherlands. By signing these documents a company does not only agree to comply with the conditions of the Quality Assurance Programme; it also agrees to comply with the administrative requirements including the organisation of the audit, invoicing etc.
