Preparing Children to Lead Thriving Lives
Parents choose Elmwood Franklin School for many reasons, but there's one thing that's true among all of them: they know that Elmwood Franklin is the very best place for their children to learn and grow.
The Pre-K to Eighth Grade Model
From our three-year-old program through eighth grade, we provide an enriched and nurturing environment devoted solely to the needs— and the potentials—of young children and adolescents. Every facet of our program is carefully planned and implemented to provide our students with an educational experience that is simply unmatched.
Discover Your Child’s Strengths
Elmwood Franklin School students are given opportunities that others may not have until high school or beyond—to be a leader, to perform on stage, to travel to another country, to study advanced algebra, to go skiing, to exhibit artwork, to learn another language, to play on a sports team, to learn an instrument, to rough it in the great outdoors.
We believe that childhood is the time to explore, and we provide our students with an enriched environment in which they do just that—Upper School students can join a sports team and take part in a play and learn to code on the robotics team. The result is confident, well-rounded individuals who have a keen sense of their interests and strengths.
Academic Rigor and Achievement
Elmwood Franklin features an accelerated curriculum in which most students perform well above grade level. We give bright and eager students the chance to excel by setting high academic standards and then giving them the support necessary to meet those expectations.
Core skills and traditional subject matter are introduced early and developed sequentially, and good study habits are continually reinforced so that all of our children have outstanding preparation for subsequent learning.

Because of my experiences at Elmwood Franklin, I was not afraid to chase my dreams or try new things. As a result, I became a successful journalist, social activist, and artist, and I was one of the first woman sports writers in the United States.

An Exceptional Setting
We believe that the physical environment is an integral part of the total learning experience. We're proud of all that our beautiful campus has to offer—from our professional-grade theater, to our modern library resource center, to our music center with separate band and chorus rooms, to our bright, spacious dining room, to our outdoor playing field, full-scale gymnasium with climbing wall, and playground.
And with continual updates to our facilities to meet changing times, we are committed to making sure that our teachers and our students can work together in well-equipped spaces that meet their needs and inspire their minds.
Whole Child Approach
Responsibility, cooperation, and compassion aren't just buzzwords here—these qualities are a part of who we are as a school. Character education has been a hallmark of Elmwood Franklin since our founding.
Through partnerships with non-profit community organizations, service learning projects that teach values along with relevant subject matter, and school-wide recognition of good deeds and model behavior, our students learn to care about and to care for the world around them.
The Proven Value of Pre-K–Eight
A big part of what makes Elmwood Franklin so different, and so special, is our configuration—incorporating children from preschool through eighth grade in a single, stable environment.
Numerous studies show the benefits this model provides at critical stages of development. Our Prep division (three-year-old program, preschool, and kindergarten), Lower School (grades 1 to 4), and Upper School (grades 5 to 8) have faculty, programming, and amenities tailored specifically to each of their distinct age groups, while still fostering cohesion and unity throughout the student body.
Authentic Partnerships
Elmwood Franklin has a reputation as a safe, nurturing place for a reason—it is. We help our students succeed in every way possible, through academic support, social-emotional learning, faculty guidance, and the encouragement of a safe and secure atmosphere.
And we support our parents, too, with a host of services to make life less complicated, including options for early arrival, afterschool care, and summer camp—and the assurance that your questions and interests will be addressed.

EFS provided me with a range of opportunities that allowed me to be a confident leader, global citizen, and to develop my love for learning. Without the strong foundation I had at EFS for 10 years, I would not be the student or leader I am today.

“
Without a doubt, the best part about EFS is that they are more than just academics. At Elmwood Franklin, I formed relationships with my teachers that I have yet to match in my high school and college career. It was a real community there, which I am forever grateful for.
– KATHERINE HERER, CLASS OF 2010A Cohesive Community
