The Impact of Service with Elon Volunteers! Through EV!, I realized that service is learning. This connection between learning and service helped me understand that “the act of helping” is not the sole definition of service, and that service work is a pluralistic activity exemplified through action.

With EV!, many moments were filled with intense joy and a sense of innovation and breakthrough. Some moments came with frustration, brick walls, and burnout. It was part of the cycle. Yet, there was one all-encompassing feeling that remained consistent through both ups and downs: community.

MATHEW GOLDBERG ‘14 EV! encourages students to explore visions and ideas and reflect on the purpose, sustainability, and impact of their work. My time with EV! taught me to embrace vulnerability and think critically about how I engage with the world around me every day.

EV! provided a welcoming community on campus and also allowed me to become part of the community outside the walls of Elon. My experience with EV! developed my passion for social change and encouraged me to pursue service in Alamance County after graduation.

JOSH KAUFMANN ‘15 EV! is full of people who recognize the importance of inclusivity and diversity of thought and identity. We engage with difference head-on to even out the playing field for all.
