CAN TWO MAKE The other day, I was talking to a friend of mine, very talented photographer IT from London. We were passionately chatting about editorials and telling stories with pictures, creating something meaningful and then - suddenly -WORK? he expressed the thought which I didn‘t agree with. He said, that he would need to put together a complete team of people, to be able to compose something amazing. Something worth publishing. Makeup artists, directors, stylists, hair technicians, experienced models, lighting assistants, photographer‘s assistants and preferably a retoucher as well. But that is not how it works. That is not how it should work. At least not in my eyes. Of course with a great, big team of talented people, there is a big chance of generating stunning pictures - technically perfect with flawless makeup, with hair on point and mindblowing outfits. But there is also a big chance that pictures will be... empty. Yes, empty. Because even the greatest of teams can do only so much. If there is no emotion, there is no soul. I will forever remember what my mentor advised me, back in 2004: „The technically imperfect picture with great emotion is always better than the flawless shiny one with no soul.“ No need for the team, when you want to tell the story. Our cover picture and the story „In the woods“ was created by only two people the photographer and the model. And I still think it has a great emotion in it. No matter how many people were there to help to make it work. The idea is what matters. The story, the way you portray it, the emotions you want to convey with it. To wrap up this little introduction to our very first issue (which I am indescribably proud and at the same time nervous about) I would like to tell you a little secret. It will maybe prove my point. There is no big team behind this magazine either. ELOQUE is run by only two people. How is it possible? Can only two make it work? Well, we had the idea and the will to work on it. Go see for yourself, if we did well. Enjoy!
