The Importance of Community Media
On November 2004, three Puerto Ricans came together to establish El Sol Latino Since our first edition, published in the now-defunct Star Press in Holyoke, we are known for bringing to the front page stories, opinions, voices, and news reflecting the linguistic, cultural, and social diversity that defines the Puerto Rican and Latinxs communities in the area.
For the past 19 years we have continued to be an independent media organozation with a journalistic voice, mission, and content that are not found in other regional media outlets. Since its creation, Holyoke Public Media has been a valuable and trusted news media partner. We share a common vision of working together to make Holyoke into a city that offers economic, educational, cultural and political opportunities for all.

In an alliance with the Holyoke Media, we launched a new community media initiative. In January 2020, we started El Sol Latino Podcast 413, a successful partnership between our newspaper and Holyoke Media. In this podcast co-hosted with Natalia Muñoz, Director of News of Holyoke Media we have interviewed over 70 local and national personalities including artists, scholars, local community leaders, and others.
Some of the guests that have appeared in our Podcast include
• Mónica Vélez and Luis Rivera - Los Jibaritos Sports Club
