PAKISTAN'S RESOLUTION DAY 23 MARCH 1940 RD
Pakistan is a country of over 170 million people determined tosafeguard their freedom, integrity and sovereignty, who shall never give in to the forces of evil.Pakistan is bound to triumph over its predicaments. No one should have any doubt or miss perception on this count.
I
t was 23rd March 1940 when the Pakistan Resolution was passed that is also known as Lahore Resolution. This day holds a special importance in the heart of every Pakistani owing to the fact that on this day the concept of a separate Islamic Republic of Pakistan was presented at the location where Minar-e-Pakistan stands today and it was until 14th August 1947 when this dream took a practical form. This resolution was proposed by Maulvi Fazal ul Haq. Parade reminds us the ideology which set new trend of life of the Muslims of subcontinent. Parade was initiated on 23rd March 1956 on Polo Ground Karachi. The Military parade was held in Islamabad after seven years, last military parade took place on March 23, 2008 during the tenure of Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf as a civilian president. 23rd March Parade Pakistan Air Force 2015. Salutes from horse-riders, Mechanized Infantry Unit, Light Infantry Commando Battalion squad, Pakistan Army Aviation helicopters, MI17s, Cobra gunship helicopters are part of the parade. Pakistan army's missiles Ra'ad, Nasr, Tank Al Zarrar and Al-Khalid was also be part of the p a r a d e .
The flute reflecting cultures of all four provinces of Pakistan, local dance and cultural tunes. President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain have oversee the parade as Supreme Commander. President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain delivered a speech to the participants of the parade in which he paid tribute to those who had lost their lives in the Taliban attack on Army Public School on December 16, 2014. While at one side we celebrate this day it is also thinkable that are we celebrating that Pakistan which was founded by Mr Muhammad Ali Jinnah? Isn't today's Pakistan different from the one that was left for us by those who made great sacrifices for it? This day is not just meant for observing a holiday and watching songs and shows played on Television. It is indeed not just a matter of yet another holiday to stay at home and enjoy. Rather this day is meant to remind all the Pakistanis that this country is the outcome of loads of sacrifices and efforts and if we don't do anything to improve the current situation Pakistan is going through, it will show that we aren't aware of the true essence of Pakistan's Resolution Day. This year 23rd March has come at such a time that is very crucial to the future of our country.

NASA STUDY PREDICTS DEVASTATING DROUGHTS DURING THE LAST HALF OF THE CENTURY
A
new NASA study is predicting the occurrence of severe "megadroughts" across the United States in the second half of this century, that are set to be more extreme and prolonged than any droughts that have taken place in the region for the past 1,000 years. According to the study, one of the key driving forces behind the devastating droughts will be the prolific creation of human-produced greenhouse gasses. The study made use of several climate models including one spearheaded by NASA, and is the first of its kind to use historical data stretching back as far as 1,000 years. Most modern drought indicators only use data from around 100 years in the past, however NASA's most recent study was able to draw on environmental conditions prevailing in the distant past by making use of a well-established tree-ring database. Using this wealth of natural information, the team were able to pinpoint drought events by observing the spaces between rings in tree trunks, a process known as dendrochronology. Some trees grow significantly more during years with prevalent rainfall, producing wider spacing between the rings, and have stunted growth during periods of drought, creating closer rings. By observing ring patterns in the same species of tree during modern droughts, the study was able to produce accurate drought maps for the last 1,000 years. This allowed climate scientists to examine the big picture, taking into account drought cycles in a much longer context. "Natural droughts like the 1930s Dust Bowl and the
current drought in the Southwest have historically lasted maybe a decade or a little less," states Ben Cook, lead author of the study and climate scientist at NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies and the LamontDoherty Earth Observatory at Columbia University, New York. "What these results are saying is we're going to get a drought similar to those events, but it is probably going to last at least 30 to 35 years." According to the study, the severity of future droughts will be determined by humanity's approach to carbon emissions in the coming years. Cook and his team state that with the current levels of greenhouse gasses in Earth's atmosphere, the possibility of a drought lasting around 30 years sits at around 12 percent. If carbon emissions level off around 2050, this figure rises to 60 percent. In the event of man-made carbon emissions continuing to rise at the current pace, there is a harrowing 80 percent chance of a megadrought engulfing the Southwest and Central Plains from 2050 to 2099

ROLLING WORLD CLOCK HOPS
BETWEEN TIME Z ONES WITH A S IMPLE N UDGE
A
smartphone app, an internet search or even some quick calculations are all effective enough ways of working out the time in other locations around the world, but perhaps aren't as elegant as the World Clock from Korean design firm Elevenplus. This stylish timepiece can quickly show you the time in 24 different time zones, needing only a little push in the right direction. Powered by a single AA battery, the pocket-sized World Clock measures 85 mm (3.3 in) in diameter and weighs 144 g (5 oz), so was seemingly designed with the country-hopping traveler in mind. In and of itself, it's an impressive enough device, but it a nifty built-in rolling
mechanism is what gives the World Clock a point of difference. Engraved at intervals around its cylindrical body are 24 different time zones. With the time set for the user's current location, a user can roll the clock so that the time zone they seek aligns with the traditional 12 o'clock position. But because the hands spin freely of the clock face, they remain in the same position while the numbers rotate with the body, displaying the time in that particular location. Releasing the clock will see it roll back to your time zone.

EGG FACE MASK
SPRING FACE MASK Eggs, the symbol of spring and new beginnings, have been used by women for centuries in order to cure dry skin. They are packed with protein and lecithin, which is a natural lubricant for the skin. Adding a bit of sour cream to the mix will help slough off any dead skin cells, too. INGREDIENTS: 1 raw egg 1 tablespoon of honey 1 tablespoon of sour cream DIRECTIONS: Mix together all the ingredients and slather over your face and neck. Let the mask sit for 15-20 minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water. 26
AVOCADO MASK
EMAL MaGazine This is a great mask for dry, peeling and scaling skin. The avocado and coconut oil provide replenishing moisture, while the honey helps to heal any chafed or raw areas. INGREDIENTS: 1/2 a very ripe avocado 2 tablespoons honey 1/2 teaspoon coconut oil DIRECTIONS:
STRAWBERRY MASK
Mash or puree the avocado until it's smooth and creamy, and then blend in the rest of the ingredients. Apply to your face, avoiding your eyes, and leave it on for 10-15 minutes. Wipe your skin clean with a damp, warm cloth, or rinse your face with warm water in the shower.
Imagine this mask as a smoothie for your face: strawberries contain salicylic acid (which is great for acne-prone skin), while lemon juice helps to tighten pores and remove old, dead skin cells. Yogurt and honey have antibiotic properties, and this entire blend is as good for your outsides as it is in a drink.
INGREDIENTS: 1/4 cup mashed strawberries 2 tablespoons lemon juice 1 tablespoon yogurt 1 tablespoon honey
DIRECTIONS: Mash all of the ingredients together, but do not puree in a blender: you want this to be spreadable, not a liquid. Apply evenly all over your face and let sit 810 minutes. Wipe off with a warm, damp facecloth and then rinse with cool water. Pat dry.

pring is a collection of a great many tales about people and events, centred on a single season in a year. A perfect spring day is when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing, and the lawn mower is broken. Spring has sprung, though the weather may suggest otherwise, today marks the first day of spring and let's be honest, it couldn't have come soon enough, In honour of the soon to come April showers and May flowers, we rounded up a selection of brightly-coloured floral fashion editorials featuring some of our favourite springtime beauties. LARRY FOGG TRIP TO BATAM ISLAND, INDONESIA
EMAL MaGazine
I
had been told that many people from Singapore go to Batam Island, Indonesia for short weekend trips and I decided to also visit Batam Island during my trip to Asia. Since I already had airline tickets to Bangkok, I continued on from Bangkok to Singapore. Batam Island is approximately 12 miles south of Singapore and easily accessible by ferry. The island of Batam is a part of the Riau Islands Province of Indonesia, and is one of 3,200 islands in the province. Since Batam became part of a Special Economic Zone with Singapore in 2006, it has experienced high population growth rates. As a free trade zone, Batam has also become a major harbor and industrial zone and is the site of many factories operated by foreign companies. In addition, as a free trade zone, Batam also attracts tourists who are interested shopping for bargain prices. On Sunday afternoon, I took the Batam Ferry from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal in Singapore to the NongsaPura International Ferry Terminal at Batam Island, Indonesia. After disembarking from the ferry, I saw a man who was a 41
EMAL MaGazine representative of the Batam Bay View Resort. Since I had a reservation for that hotel, I approached him and gave him my confirmed reservation voucher. Although he was there to meet another couple, he immediately volunteered to assist me with my visa on arrival and then transported us to the hotel in the hotel courtesy bus.
about travel in general and about sights to see while at Batam. He told me that the resort is normally crowed only on the weekends. He also said that most of the tourists come from Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, and South Korea. In addition, he said that most tourists come to Batam for a weekend of duty-free shopping and playing golf. I told him that I normally hire a car and driver for local sightseeing, and he said that he thought it would be possible to hire a taxi for a day once I figured out where I wanted to go and that he would accompany me as a guide. We exchanged mobile phone numbers and I booked a local city tour for the following day to get a closer look at Batam Island.
Batam Bay View Resort is situated at a point with views across a bay toward Nagoya city to the west and across the Singapore Strait to Singapore. Nearly every room in the hotel has an ocean view. Although the resort location is close to the Nongsa International Ferry Terminal, it is more than 30 minutes by taxi to Nogoya, the largest city on Batam. There are other resorts and several very The city tour was primarily a tour nice golf courses nearby. for tourist shopping and some After I settled into my room, I limited local sightseeing. There were not many consisted of a spice store, several people at the resort, and I outlet stores, and a large enjoyed the scenery and the view shopping mall. Sightseeing stops across the strait to the Singapore included the MahaVihara Duta skyline. Later I stopped by the Maitreya Temple, the Batam Go Concierge Desk where I met Mr. Kart Center, and Batam Miniature Harrys Munandar. We talked House Indonesia. In addition, we
42
EMAL MaGazine ate lunch at the Golden Prawn restaurant. The MahaVihara Duta Maitreya Temple is one of the largest Buddhist temples in Southeast Asia and is reported to be the number one tourist attraction in Batam. It is located in the Batam Center area of Batam. The main chamber consists of statues of Buddha, and the side chambers feature Goddess of Mercy (Guan Yin) and Guan Gong deities. The temple was beautiful and had unique white statues in the large area in front of the temple. A young couple on my tour wanted to drive Go Karts at the Batam Go Kart Center. After watching them beginning to drive the go karts, I noticed a poster advertising Batam Miniature House Indonesia. The tour guide said that it was very close and I went there while the folks continued to drive the go karts. Batam Miniature House Indonesia is a park that features replicas of 33 traditional houses from 33 provinces in Indonesia. The park has a long winding path with the 33 houses spread out at many places. The houses are made from cement and have a height of around 1.5 meters. They come from various provinces starting from Ache, Bali, Bangka-Belitung, and continuing until Maluka and Papua. 43
EMAL MaGazine I was really impressed with this park and would rate it as a must visit place when traveling to Batam Island. We stopped for lunch at the Golden Prawn Restaurant which is advertised as one of the best seafood restaurants on Batam. We enjoyed a large multi-course seafood lunch before continuing our tour. The restaurant was huge and was not at all crowded. Although the food was good, I believe that the Amazon Restaurant adjacent to the Nongsa International Ferry Terminal served better seafood. After returning to the hotel, I met with Harrys and we discussed a day of Batam Island sightseeing. Harrys said that he would rent a car and would drive me as well as be my guide for a full day trip. Since Harrys was a long time resident of Batam and had spent much of his life there, I knew that this arrangement would be perfect. Harrys met me at the hotel with a late model rental SUV for our sightseeing day trip at about 9 AM. I left the itinerary 45
EMAL MaGazine of where we would visit up to him and he made sure that I re c e i v e d a v e ry comprehensive sightseeing tour of Batam.
Our next stop was at the Toa Bek Kong Bio old Chinese temple. This is also a very picturesque temple and well worth a visit. Continuing on to the Nagoya business center, we stopped at the Yong Kee Istimewa Restaurant for lunch. Mr. Harrys said that this is the best local restaurant in Batam to get Batam noodles for lunch. We both had the Batam noodles, which were delicious.
We drove first to the Kabil Industrial Park and then past the LNG Power Grid facility to the Telaga-Bunggur domestic port where he pointed out the Port Master Building. We continued on to the nearby picturesque KampungTua – Old Chinese Village, where we observed the Navy Post, a Chinese temple, and the Landlord's After lunch, we drove past a Christian church with a gold House. dome that looked like it We continued on to the very could be a mosque from a large and beautiful Mesjid distance. Bridge No. 3 connects Nipah and Setoko Islands. Bridge No. 4 connects Setoko and Rempang Islands. Bridge No. 5 connects Rempang and Galang Islands. Bridge No. 6 connects Galang and GalangBaru Islands. The high pylons of the TengkuFisabilillahbridge came into view above the hills well before we arrived at the entrance to the bridge. As we crossed the bridge it reminded me a little of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California, USA. We stopped on Bridge No. 2 to take some photos of t h e TengkuFisabilillahbridge before continuing the drive South.
South of Batam are several small islands that are connected by a chain of six bridges that are collectively called Barelang Bridge. In addition, “Barelang” refers to the islands themselves. EMAL MaGazine visited the Galang Refugee Camp. The Galang Refugee Camp accommodated Indochinese refugees from 1979 until 1996. Approximately 250,000 refugees passed through this camp. The camp had two sections: Camp One and Camp Two. Camp One was for newly arrived refugees, those who had not yet been approved for resettlement in the United Stares or another third country settlement. After approval, refugees were transferred to Camp Two where they received instructions in English as well as cultural information regarding life in the main resettlement countries. Camp Two also housed Cambodians who had been camped and approved in Thailand. Policing was done by the Indonesian Police, while caseworkers and legal officers from participating countries and the United Nations came in as needed.
afternoon. The sign at the entrance to the Galang Refugee Camp refers to the camp as Camp Vietnam Galang Island. As we drove through the camp I was amazed at the large area encompassed by Camp Vietnam. In addition to the buildings and a refugee graveyard, some of the boats used to transport refugees were on display. There is also a small museum in one of the administration buildings. We arrived at the museum just as it was about to close and the caretakers kept it open for us to tour the museum. This is an interesting place to visit, and I wished that I had more time to walk around the camp.
Instead of going on to Bridge No. 6, we drove west across large hills to the Mirota Resort located on a beach to watch the sunset. Mr. Harrys said that before a change in the governing officials, this After crossing Bridge No. 5, area was to become home we arrived at the refugee to a large casino, which is camp during the late why the resort was built. 48

It isn't easy to get away with being brutally honest here in bollywood especially when relationships are at stake. Jaya Bachchan might easily have termed Happy New Year as a nonsensical film but father and son Bachchans knew that the SRK and Bachchan family friendship is never going to be the same after this and that's why they decided to clean up after her! Apparently, Amitabh Bachchan apologizing on the same issue and then Abhi and Ash too, later, went over to the Khans' abode just to apologize to him in person. After all, Happy New Year did get Abhishek Bachchan higher up on his career chart‌didn't it? We don't know if this is true but, from what the sources say, Shah Rukh Khan couldn't meet them as he was not available when they came home! Looks like King Khan doesn't forgive all that easily.
