OMAR MANSOOR’S 10TH COLLECTION AT LFW Omar Mansoor returns with his 10th collection at LFW featuring evening wear, depicting the context of Russian Revolution. In Russian history the fashion revolutions always coincided with the greatest political changes: from Peter the Great to the Revolution of 1917 to Gorbachev's Perestroika. The Revolution of 1917 made the Russian fashion adjust to the new Communist norms, which condemned everything "bourgeois" and extraordinary. The collection is constructed with hues of white and ivory depicting the peace post revolution. The pre revolution Tsarist Autocracy is shown with Faberge imperial eggsinspired motifs, while the rise of revolution is communicated with military insignia and caps, the end of revolution peace is shown with white and gold silk flowers. The diffusion line includes both knee and full length dresses along jumpsuits constructed using a range of fabrics from silk jersey, crepes to lace blended with Lycra.

CHARGEABLE SITGO FOLDING ELECTRIC BIKE ANOTHER PROGRESS FOR MANKIND

T

he SitGo e-bike has taken the comfort on the next level. The latest e-bike to enter the folding bike fold is the SitGo, which, like other models, can be packed down into a more compact package for storage or carrying on public transport or in a car. But in addition to regular household outlets, the SitGo can also be recharged through a car cigarette lighter socket. At a glance, there's nothing particularly special about the 20-kg (44-lb) SitGo folding e-bike, other than perhaps appearing more peculiar than other folding bikes. Its 102-cm (40-in) tall, 98-cm (39-in) long frame can be squashed down into a 75 x 64 cm (30 x 25 in) package to be placed in car trunks or on crowded trains. Arguably, it resembles more an electric scooter than bike, by way of a pair of foldout pegs in place of conventional pedals and a chain. This means the vehicle is propelled entirely by a 180 W brushless hub motor and a 36 V lithium battery, with a claimed top speed of 25 km/h (15 mph) and range of 35 to 40 km (21.7 to 25 mi). When it comes time to recharge, users can plug the SitGo directly into a regular wall socket at their home or office, or from the 12 V cigarette lighter socket of their car if they're out and about, with charging time rated at three to five hours. Other thoughtful features include a 360-degree rotating smartphone holder mounted on the handlebars, a USB port for charging mobile devices, and LED headlights and taillights. SitGo is currently the subject of a Kickstarter campaign, where its creators are looking to raise funds for commercial production.

TRAVEL & TOURISM www.emalmag.com

LARRY FOGG TRIP TO SEATTLE

A

fter we arrived at the Johnston Ridge Observatory, we were able to view portions of the summit of Mount St. Helens as the clouds were passing by. Inside the visitor center we watched the video of the eruption and the continuing reforestation of the area. Normally after the video, they open the curtains behind the projection screen to expose a dazzling view of Mount St. Helens, but the clouds obscured our view of the mountain. The view below the clouds gave us a view of Spirit Lake in the distance. The clouds rapidly moved in and completely enveloped the visitor center as we were leaving. We were grateful that we had been able to see portions of Mount St. Helens on our drive from the Forest Learning Center to Johnson Ridge. During our return drive on SR 504 we finally descended below the clouds and visited Coldwater Lake which was formed after the eruption. We attempted to also visit the Science Learning Center but it was in the process of closing for the day just as we arrived. We continued westbound on SR 504 to northbound SR 505 as a shortcut to Interstate 5 and our return to Federal Way, Washington. On Tuesday, David and Doreen drove us to visit the Bass Pro Shop, which is a very large sporting goods store, in Tacoma. The store included a restaurant and the Fish Bowl, a bowling alley decorated in an underwater theme. Our next stop in Tacoma was to visit Wright Park, which had beautiful flowers and gardens. We continued north adjacent to Puget Sound from Wright Park to Point Defiance Park via Ruston Way and the five-mile drive

through the park. Point Defiance Park is very beautiful and we passed raccoons at three different locations beside the road. At one viewpoint we were able to see the Tacoma Narrows Bridge before arriving at Fort Nisaqually. Two of the fort’s original structures were relocated to the present site during the 1930s. The remainder of the fort has been reconstructed to reflect how Fort Nisqually appeared during the 1850s. The fort is now a living history museum and was in the process of closing when we arrived. Our next stop was at the Pagoda, a 1914 streetcar station, across from an Asian garden in Point Defiance Park. We returned to downtown Tacoma for dinner before returning to Federal Way. On Wednesday, John and Diane drove us to the Emerald Queen Hotel & Casino in Fife, Washington, where we enjoyed a buffet brunch before going to the hotel lobby to review tourism brochures. Although we found many attractions to be considered for a return trip, we were intrigued by the brochures for the Pacific Rim Bonsai Museum and the Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden which are located in Federal Way. Since both of them were on our way, we decided to stop for a visit. They are both situated next to each other; there is an admission fee for the Botanical Garden while the Bonsai Museum is free. We visited the Bonsai Museum first and were amazed at the very extensive collection of beautiful bonsai creations. Some bonsai pieces were constructed entirely out of metal wires. The collection of traditional living bonsai trees and shrubs was absolutely amazing. We also visited the Botanical

28

EMAL MaGazine

www.emalmag.com

Garden, which encompasses 22 acres of woodland gardens, features over 600 rhododendron species, and is advertised as the largest collection of its kind in the world. The gardens were magnificent and the Himalayan Blue Poppy Meadow was in full bloom. Many of the rhododendrons had already bloomed but there were ample varieties of other flowering plants to make these gardens picture perfect. Anyone visiting the Seattle area who enjoys

beautiful gardens should definitely visit the Bonsai Museum and the Botanical Garden in Federal Way. We flew home to Los Angeles on Thursday, and are already looking forward to returning to the Pacific Northwest on some future trips.

C H I C WAY TO KEEP WARM BUT

FASHIONABLE Overlay It Winter jackets, UGGs and snow boots are all fine and dandy but how to keep warm and fashionable in times when you can't pull out your bulky jacket or a pair of favorite CAT boots? Layer your clothes! It's easy, it's simple, it will keep you warm and enable you to wear even a thin, fancy coat and feel like you're wearing the warmest of ski jackets. I'm talking thick tights, undershirts, long tops that can be tucked in etc. Even your clothes can be layered in so many ways which, of course, allows you to create a better, more interesting look and use even thinner garments you wouldn't have even dreamed of wearing in winter!

Don't Forget Wraps Nope, don't even dare to forget them! Wraps, shawls, ponchos and all the warm, cozy variations of these are my ultimate winter wardrobe! Wear them as a practical accessory when the weather is not cold enough for a jacket, or throw a coat over them during the harsh winter. A stylish wrap or a poncho can be worn in tons of different ways and will even help you use clothes that are not warm enough for winter, making your outfits more interesting and your list of possible outfit choices much longer!

Say “Yes” to Hats Big hats, small hats, vintage hats, knit hats and fur hats – there are tons of amazing, super trendy hats you can opt for this winter! Protect your hair and head from the cold with a lady-like cloche hat that has made a comeback this year, opt for a Russian-style fur hat, statement hat or a supertrendy knitted one! So many wonderful choices, so many hassle-free ways to beat the cold and never have to wonder how to keep warm but fashionable again!

Cashmere and Mohair Are Your Friends Cozy, warm and totally sexy – fabrics like cashmere, angora and mohair will never cease to be stylish! And they will never fail to keep you warm either! Furthermore, once you have a few top quality sweaters in your closet, putting together a warm and fashionable outfit is as easy as breathing! Think about it this way – for every two synthetic sweaters (that won't do anything but make you sweat more), you could buy a really nice, comfortably warm one!

BEAUTY DUTY www.emalmag.com

WINTER BEAUTY MISTAKES LINGERING IN A HOT SHOWER When it's ten below outside, it's tempting to turn your morning shower into a half-hour steam-a-thon. But after about 15 minutes, all that heat begins to compromise your skin's lipid layer, a complex of fatty acids that holds in precious moisture. Turn down the heat as much as you can or at least shorten your shower time.

THE WRONG LIP BALM It's no secret that your lips get more chapped in the winter, but not all balms are created equal: The most important thing is to use one that is viscous, not waxy, so the ingredients penetrate fissures. Stay away from anything with lanolin (especially if you have eczema or supersensitive skin), and, since fragrance is the number-one skin allergen, avoid anything that's heavily scented or tastes like your favorite candy.

THE WRONG CLEANSER No foundation, no matter how great the formula, looks good on dry skin—in fact, it will just highlight trouble. To keep the skin smooth, exfoliate regularly with a scrub containing gentle beads, and switch to (or add) a rich night cream. Then choose a moisturizing foundation with a dewy or satin (rather than matte) finish—avoid anything powdery. We like Chanel Lift Lumière Firming and Smoothing Fluid Makeup SPF 15 and Maybelline New York Dream Liquid Mousse Foundation. Another great option is tinted moisturizer, because it's so sheer and never looks caked-on. Elizabeth Arden Sheer Lights Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer has illuminating particles that give skin an extra boost.

THE WRONG CLEANSER Since drying soap lather is even worse for your lipid barrier than hot water, avoid soap-based facial cleansers. In the winter, when there isn't as much moisture in the air, absolutely everyone needs a nonfoaming cleanser.

SKIPPING SPF "The sun's rays still exist in winter—your skin will still absorb them and be slowly damaged over time," says New York City dermatologists . "Even if you're only outside for a total of 30 minutes, five times per week—such as walking to work or taking a lunch break—over a year, that adds up to 7,800 minutes in the sun." To make sun protection easy, choose a daytime moisturizer with broad-spectrum protection (UVA and UVB) and at least SPF 30.

33

EMAL MaGazine

www.emalmag.com

NEGLECTING YOUR HANDS Antibacterial hand soaps can be drying, use a mild, creamy one instead, rinse well with lukewarm water, and reapply hand cream every time. Once a week, rub cuticle oil into and around nails to keep them hydrated. Try Softsoap Rich Moisturizing Shea Butter Hand Soap, Neutrogena Age Shield Hand Cream SPF 30, and CND Essentials SolarOil Nail & Cuticle Conditioner.

FROSTY LIDS The weather may be frosty—but your eyelids shouldn't be. This time of year, frosted shadow can make your skin look washed-out (or make you look like an ice princess, and not in a good way). Instead, makeup artist suggests metallic periwinkle blue and bronze shades as surprising winter choices. Try Shiseido Makeup Luminizing Satin Eye Colors in Blue Stone and Pyrite Sun.

ROUGH FEET Sandpaper feet don't exactly say, "Let's cuddle." Not to mention that neglecting your feet all winter just makes it more difficult to whip them into shape for spring. As maintenance, get a pedicure at least every six weeks—or even better, follow this foot-softening routine once a week: Soak your feet in warm, soapy water for 15 minutes, then buff the soles with a foot file such as Tweezerman Pedro Callus Stone. To soften and help seal cracks, slick on an ointment, such as Aquaphor Advanced Therapy Healing Ointment or Lubriderm Intense Skin Repair Ointment; then wear cotton socks while you sleep.

NOT WATERPROOFING MAKEUP Waterproof formulas may seem like a summer-only thing, but when it's particularly windy or biting outside, regular eye makeup can end up running down your cheeks if you tear up. Switch to waterproof mascara and eyeliner, such as Maybelline New York Define-A-Lash Lengthening Waterproof Mascara and Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil, and use a cream shadow topped with a powder of the same color. And if you find that your foundation or blush tends to rub off on your coat or scarf, set it with a little translucent pressed powder before you head out the door. Try Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Talc-Free Mineral Face Powder in Translucent.

HO-HUM LIPS Dark lipstick isn't mandatory the second the temperature dips. The new bright lip colors for spring happen to look great in the winter, as long as you choose a sheer formula. For medium to dark skin, try a stop-sign red like Yves Saint Laurent Gloss Volupte Stick in #3 or a coral shade such as L'Oréal Paris Colour Riche Lipcolour in Volcanic. If you have fair skin, try a blue-red like Maybelline New York Moisture Extreme Lipcolor in Cherry Rain or a hot pink hue like Dior Addict High Shine Lipstick in Backstage Pink.

YOUNIS KHAN BECOMES FIRST PAKISTAN BATSMAN TO REACH 9000 TEST RUNS

Y

et another feather has been added into Younis Khan's cap in Tests. Younis became the first Pakistan batsman to reach 9000 Test runs. He recently became Pakistan's leading run-scorer in Tests by overtaking Javed Miandad's long-standing mark of 8832 runs. (Scorecard). Playing in his 103rd Test match, Younis has grown from strength to strength in the last one year. He got to the landmark just after tea, when he pushed England's legspinner Adil Rashid for a single, to bring up the landmark. (Younis Khan Surpasses Javed Miandad as Pakistan's Highest Test Scorer) His achievements continue his golden run in the longer format of the game. Earlier, he was involved in a 67-run partnership with Mohammad Hafeez (51) in the second innings to put Pakistan on top after bowling out England for 242 in Dubai. Younis holds several records for Pakistan in Tests. He is the only Pakistani batsman to have gotten a century against all Test playing nations.

Younis Khan already holds several records for Pakistan in Tests and on Saturday, during the second Test against England in Dubai, he became the first Pakistan batsman to reach 9000 Test runs.

At one point, he was the only player to have an average of fifty-plus in all innings of a Test match. He has scored the most centuries (five) batting in the fourth innings and has the best average in the modern era in the fourth innings with 60.59. The 37-yearold also holds the record for most hundreds by a Pakistani in Test cricket - 30 tons. His last one year has been prolific. During the two-Test series against Australia in October 2014, Younis slammed 468 runs at an average of 156, including a magnificent 213 in Abu Dhabi. In the recent series against Sri Lanka, Younis slammed 171 as Pakistan chased down 382, their highest-ever chase in Test history to seal a brilliant 2-1 series win.
