ince its debut in 2012, Nescafe Basementhas discovered some of the most promising music talent of the country and provided musicians an amazing platform and opportunity to become successful artists. While the show has undoubtedly established a huge following, which keeps growing with each season, there are a few artists in particular who have shined the brightest. From releasing their own music videos, performing at top commercial and corporate gigs, receiving critical appraise and international awards, some impressive participants stayed in the public eye even after the seasons ended. Here are a few of the many success stories the popular youth show has produced: Soch: The Lahore based band, which just recently collaborated with former Vital Signs vocalist Junaid Jamshed, has set the bar high for the show's participants. Soch performed their original song 'Awari' in the first season of Nescafe Basement. The song was later taken up by Indian director Mohit Suri for his movie Ek Villain in 2014, which went on to become a global hit. The band has been nominated for the 'Best Composer' category for Ek Villain alongside Mithoon and Ankit Tiwari at various prestigious international awards including IIFA (International Indian Film Academy Awards), Filmfare and GIMA (Global Indian Music Academy Awards). The boys also brought home the Life Ok Screen Award trophy. In addition, Soch has contributed to the OST of Asad-UlHaq's directorial debut Dekh Magar Pyaar Se with the tracks Kabhi Kabhi, Tumhein Dillagi, Kaala Doriya and Neray Neray Vas. “Being a part of Nescafe Basement has been an experience of a lifetime” - Soch
Parizae Azhar:The youngest performer to feature on the show so far, Parizae was just 15 years old when she was discovered by mentor Xulfi. She has been a part of the second and third seasons of the show, and her covers of Adam Lambert's What Do You Want From Me, Nazia Hassan's Boom Boom and Ed Sheraan's Give Me Love remain to be some of the most popular tracks ever produced by Nescafe Basement. Parizae has recently been spotted being interviewed on top-notch TV shows, and is also regularly performing at concerts nationwide. She now plans on writing and composing her own music. “Nescafe Basement has been a life changing experience. I was a shy girl with very little confidence as I was the youngest out of everyone. The show helped me gain experience in singing with a proper band and I also got the chance to do backing vocals. I plan on making my original songs now. I'd love to pursue music as a full time career” Parizae Bilawal Lahooti: The Karachi based drummer has been featured in the second and third seasons of Nescafe Basement since being discovered by the show. Besides being a part of his own band Overdose, Bilawal is also currently performing as a session player for mainstream live acts such as RoXen and Call. He has also had a chance to perform drum duets with Gumby, the pioneer drummer of Pakistan. With auditions for Nescafe BasementSeason 4 just coming to an end and Xulfihaving finalized the talent for the upcoming season, viewers can rest assured, based on the discovery of artists from previous seasons, that once again an immensely talented bunch of aspiring musicians will aim to be featured on the show. DRONE TAKES TO THE AIR DOWN ON THE FARM
T
hey may not capture the imagination in the same way as say, drones that deliver items in 30 minutes or shoot stunning 4K video, but drones stand to have a big impact on agriculture. Crop dusting and seeding has been carried out by aircraft for more than a century, but we are starting to see their autonomous and agile younger cousins emerge as highly suitable tools for the job. This is of course not lost on the world's biggest drone maker DJI, which has just a launched a drone for farmers that can be programmed to cover acres of farmland in pesticides every hour. JI's MG-1 is an eight-rotor drone that is water-, dust- and corrosion-resistant and can carry a payload of up to 10 kg (22 lb). It is billed as a safer and more efficient approach to crop-dusting, with DJI claiming it can cover seven to 10 acres (2.8 to 4 ha) of plantation every hour with 40 times the efficiency of manual spraying. Under the drone's body is a tank for carrying chemicals, which are fed through four downward-facing nozzles via a pressure sprayer system. The system uses a wave radar to zoom over the crops at a consistent altitude so as to better facilitate an even spray. The MG-1 can be flown in automatic, semi-automatic and manual modes and the spray speed can be adjusted to accomodate various chemicals. The Wall Street Journal reports that the tank can hold 2.6 gal (10 L) of chemicals and the drone can fly for about 12 minutes at a time. This is a far cry from the hundreds of gallons and lengthy flight times of conventional crop-dusting planes, so the MG-1 mightn't be suitable for famers operating in flat, wide-open areas with much ground to cover.

LARRY FOGG TRIP TO TAIWAN DinTaiFung
I
met Sunny at Sanliurfa, Turkey, in June 2012. She was from Taiwan and was traveling by herself in Turkey. We took several day trips together with Mustafa from Sanliurfa before she went to Van, Turkey, and I returned home. We kept in touch via email and were able to meet up again for one day of sightseeing at Jiayuguan, China, in April 2014. I sent an email to her with a photo of my recent trip to Mount Huangshan, China, and she said that we should try to meet up again somewhere later this year. I replied that I could probably arrange to travel to Taiwan sometime in July, and she said that she would love to show me some of Taiwan. She also said that I should plan to spend at least ten days, and then she planned a complete Taiwan travel itinerary that included traveling with her family and friends. I arrived at Taipei, Taiwan, on Friday, 10 July 2015 at about 6:30 PM. After clearing immigration, I located the car that my hotel had arranged in advance. I called Sunny to let her know that I was in route to my hotel and she was waiting in the hotel lobby when I arrived. Sunny assisted me with checking into the hotel. After I deposited my luggage in my room, we took a taxi to the Taipei 101 Mall where we met up with Jessie, a co-worker of Sunny’s, for dinner. The Taipei 101 Building was the tallest building in the world from 2004 until 2010 when it was eclipsed by the Burj Khalifa in the UAE. In 2011, Taipei 101 was awarded the LEED platinum certification and became the tallest and largest green building in the world. Dinner was at DinTaiFung, one of Taipei’s most popular restaurants, and it was wonderful. I had previously met
ssie when she and Sunny met up with me for one day of sightseeing at Jiayuguan, China, in April 2014. It is always nice to have dinner with friends when I am traveling. After dinner, I took a taxi back to my hotel and arranged to meet Sunny at my hotel the following morning. I met Sunny in the hotel lobby on Saturday morning, 11 July, for some local Taiwan sightseeing. Sunny gave me a prepaid metro card and we took the metro to visit old town Taipei. We walked from the Daqiaotou Metro Station to the Taipei Bridge to view the Tamsui River Taipei 101 Mall and then walked through the old town area of Taipei. In addition to enjoying the architecture and small business shops, we visited the Cisheng Temple, the former building of the Ren-an Hospital, and the Xiahai City God Temple. The Renan Hospital was a modern westernized hospital set up by the Taiwanese during an era when Taiwan was still ruled by Japan. The Xiahai City God Temple is a century-old temple that has statues of the City God, his wife, the Chinese Cupid (Matchmaker God), and 200 other Old Town Taipei deities. Tradition has it that if the statue of the Chinese Cupid is standing, he is eager to find a good marriage for people. We ate a wonderful lunch at a small restaurant that had a long queue of people eager to eat lunch. After lunch, we continued walking and went to a shop that served shaved ice desserts which were very refreshing on this hot Taipei day. Cisheng Temple After exploring old town Taipei, we took the metro to the Guting Metro Station and walked to the Wisteria Tea House which occupies a central position in the political culture of Taipei. During the 1950s, Professor Chou Te-wei and a group of leading academics met here regularly to discuss, study, and promote

I took a taxi from my hotel to the high speed train station early Sunday morning, 12 July, and met up with Sunny to travel to Hsinchu. The train to Hsinchu took about thirty minutes. We met up with Sunny’s mother, Sunny’s cousin, Alice, and Alice’s boyfriend, Alex, at the Hsinchu station where Sunny rented a car for us to visit the aboriginal villages of Smangus and Cinsbu in the mountains. We stopped at the Yu lao Viewpoint en route to Smangus for a photo opportunity. The roads became increasingly narrower as we continued driving deeper into the mountains. Sunny had pre-arranged our permits to enter the area and, after obtaining the permit at the checkpoint, we continued on to Smangus. The road to Smangus was quite narrow with many switchbacks, and we stopped at the Sima Kushi Bridge over the Taigang Stream for another photo opportunity. Smangus is one of Taiwan’s most remote villages; it only received electricity in 1979, and the road to Smangus was not completed until 1995. Atayal is the local language spoken in Smangus. Smangus was completely cut off from civilization prior to the discovery of the giant Chamaecyparis trees about 5.2 kilometers from the village. The biggest tree is 20.5 meters in circumference and the giant trees became a large tourist draw which prompted the building of the road to Smangus. Wisteria Tea House

western liberalism in Taiwan. The building was first turned into a tea house in 1981 and named Wisteria Tea House after the old wisteria vines growing along the eaves of the building. The tea house was designated as a city historic site in 1997. Joyce, another of Sunny’s co-workers, met us at the tea house to enjoy a genuine Taipei tea house experience. It was my first real tea house experience. After departing the tea house, we took the metro to the Longshan Temple Metro Station to visit the Longshan Temple. The temple has been declared a Secondary National Heritage Site and houses hundreds of Buddhist, Taoist and Confucian deities. It was very beautiful as we arrived at sunset. In front of the temple, there was a very beautiful dragon fountain on one side and a large waterfall fountain on the opposite side. Our next stop was the Hua Xi Night Market where we ate dinner and then strolled through the market area. We agreed to meet up in the morning at the high speed train station to go to Hsinchu. Since it was getting late, I said goodbye to Sunny and took a taxi back to my hotel. It was a wonderful day of local sightseeing.

Red lipstick doesn't sound all that revolutionary, but when it goes away for a few seasons in favor of clear balms and nude tints, then makes its comeback in big, notso-expected ways on the fall runways, well, it's what we needed to get us excited about the makeup bag staple all over again. At 3.1 Philip Lim (left), makeup artist Francelle Daly looked to her '90sera Doc Martens to inspire the brick-red shade, while Dolce & Gabbana and Marchesa went moodier than usual with their takes on the trend. Think black liner is boring? Ha. From the scribble marks at Fendi and Proenza Schouler to the half-stars at Anthony Vaccarello to the double-winged lines at Mugler and everything in between, we walked away from the season with 99 new ways to rim our eyes. But if classic is more your thing, Roberto Cavalli (left) showed just how gorgeous simple and smudgy Dior khol pencil will always be.

In a season rife with '90s references, it only follows that Oscar de la Renta goth lips would emerge as a trend. But something about pairing almost-black lipstick with soft, beachy waves (at Emanuel Ungaro, left), casual buns and stud-free clothing made them a whole lot less intimidating to try.

HOMEMADE SCRUBS
FOR WINTERS
I
n most cases, this skin care stays restricted to the face. Most women completely forget to look after the skin on the rest of the body. This leads to dull and lifeless skin and the signs of ageing are soon to follow. Having beautiful and healthy skin means taking care of your entire body, and not just the face. As with any other exfoliating treatments, these should be used two to three times a week, not every day. These are easy to prepare and inexpensive. Also, these scrubs are extremely effective in helping to rejuvenate the skin while making it smooth. In addition to all this, they also help to leaving the pores clean.
And keep in mind that when trying a new skin care product (or in this case, recipe), test it out before you go to bed. That way, if you have an adverse reaction, you can give your skin time to recover while you sleep.
Baking Soda Scrub The range of what baking soda can do just seems to be getting wider and wider. The grains in baking soda are just the right size to act as a gentle exfoliant, and many claim that it has helped clear up acne. Ingredients: Ÿ
Baking soda
Ÿ
Facial cleanser
Ÿ
Water
Directions: 1.
Mix baking soda to your facial cleanser to make it an exfoliating cleanser.
2.
Scrub Coffee is another fantastic natural exfoliant. It contains caffeic acid, which has anti-inflammatory effects and can boost collagen production. We already know that coconut oil is like the 8th wonder of the world. We covered its stretch mark amazing-ness here. Ingredients: Ÿ 1/4 cup plain yogurt Ÿ 2 tablespoons coffee grounds (the fresher the better) Ÿ 1 tablespoon coconut oil (If needed, heat for a few seconds to liquify. Obviously you don’t want it too hot though.) Ÿ Juice from ½ a lemon
Optionally you can make a paste of just baking soda and water.
3.
Invigorating Coffee
Gently rub it onto your skin and leave it on for 5 to 10 minutes before rinsing off.
32

Directions: 1. To make the scrub, combine 2 tablespoon of ground coffee with 1/4 cup of yogurt, 1 tablespoon coconut oil and juice from ½ a lemon. 2. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Rinse in the shower, exfoliating the skin very gently while you remove the mask.

JAPANESE FRIED CHICKEN METHOD: Take a cooking pan add 1-2 tbsp of oil add 4-5 finely chopped garlic cloves, ½ kg of chicken (Julian cut), fry the chicken then add 2 tbsp of tomato paste, ½ cup of mushroom (slices), 1 carrot (slices), 1 zucchini (slices)mix it well and fry then add 1 tbsp of chicken powder. At last add ½ tsp of sesame seed oil mix it or take it out in a serving platter and serve it. INGREDIENTS Caster sugar ½ cup Cocoa powder 3 tbsp Corn flour 1/4 cup Salt a pinch Milk 2-3/4 cups Butter 2 tbsp Vanilla essence 1 tsp
CHOCOLATE PUDDING METHOD : In a saucepan, stir together sugar, cocoa, cornstarch and salt. Place over medium heat, and stir in milk. Bring to a boil, and cook, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens enough to coat the back of a metal spoon. Remove from heat, and stir in butter and vanilla. Let cool briefly, and serve warm, or chill in refrigerator until serving.
INGREDIENTS: ½ cup milk ½ cup water 3 Tbsp butter, diced 2 tsp granulated sugar 1/4 + 1/8 tsp salt ½ tsp vanilla extract 1 cup all-purpose flour vegetable oil, for frying Cinnamon Sugar Coating ½ cup granulated sugar 2 tsp ground cinnamon
CHURRO BITES METHOD: Heat 1 ½ inches of oil in a heavy bottom pot over medium heat to 360 degrees (Keep a close eye on the temp while you prepare the churro dough, you don't want it to become too hot, so you may have to reduce the temp or remove the pot from the burner for a moment). In a medium saucepan combine milk, water, butter, 2 tsp sugar, and salt and bring mixture just to a boil. Once it reaches a boil, remove from heat and immediately stir in vanilla and flour. Stir mixture with a silicone spatula while running dough along bottom of saucepan to smooth any lumps and stir until mixture comes together and is smooth. Transfer to a piping bag fitted with a large open star tip and carefully pipe about 1 to 1 ½ inches of dough out over oil and using clean scissors, cut dough at top to allow dough to drop into oil (to make it faster I'd pipe about 2 - 3 inches out at time and would cut 2 at once then pipe more and repeat). Work in fairly small batches being careful not to overcrowd (which will reduce oil temperature too much. You want the oil to remain close to 350). Allow churros to fry until golden brown (stirring occasionally near the beginning of frying will help keep them from sticking to each other) and remove with a wire skimmer and drain on a plate or baking sheet lined with several layers of paper towels. In a small mixing bowl, whisk together ½ cup granulated sugar and cinnamon. Toss warm, drained churros into sugar mixture to evenly coat. For best results serve warm with chocolate sauce if desired.
