He also surprised guests with his generosity when he decided to be the first bidder at the charity's balloon sale, where a donation of £500 supports one year's education for a medical student in Pakistan. In his speech at the event Fawad said: “It's amazing to be associated with an organisation that is so multi-faceted in its outreach. Providing support towards education of medical students and midwives is a vital and critical step. Additionally, providing a self sustainable supply of portable water, medical aid and treatment for the underprivileged makes the charity amongst the top contributors to the welfare of the needy in Pakistan. Kudos to to the team for working so hard towards it, and I pray it only grows from strength to strength.” RakshiMemon, UK Association of Medical Aid to Pakistan said: “We are thrilled at the generosity of our guests tonight, the money raised will positively impact the lives of many who are in dire need of our support”.

NOW DRONE IS DESIGNED TO CARRY A SINGLE HUMAN PASSENGER, AUTONOMOUSLY FLYING THEM FROM ONE LOCATION TO ANOTHER.
t was expected, there were a lot of drones on display this week at CES. Almost all of them have one thing in common, however: people can't ride in them. We say "almost all," as
there is one exception. Ehang's 184 AAV (Autonomous Aerial Vehicle) is designed to carry a single human passenger, autonomously flying them from one location to another. Ehang CEO Huazhi Hu began designing the one-seater electric drone a couple of years ago, after two of his pilot friends were killed in plane crashes. He decided that people needed a form of short-to-medium-distance personal air transport that didn't require them to have a pilot's license, and that took much of the danger out of low-altitude flight. The idea behind the Chinese-built 184 is that users will simply get in, power it up, select their destination using a 12-inch touchscreen tablet display, then press the "take-off" button. The drone's automated flight systems will take over from there, managing tasks such as communication with air traffic control
fiber/epoxy composite body, an aerial aluminum alloy frame, and eight motors putting out 142 hp/106 kW to eight propellers – those props are divided into four groups of two, each pair located on the top and bottom of one of four arms. Those arms can fold up when the drone is parked on the ground, allowing it to take up less space. Charging of its 14.4-kWh battery pack takes four hours in trickle mode or two hours in fast-charge, with a full charge reportedly being sufficient to keep one passenger airborne for up to 23 minutes at sea level. The whole thing weighs 440 lb (200 kg), can carry up to 264 lb (120 kg), has a maximum speed of 62 mph (100 km/h) and can reach a maximum altitude of 11,480 ft (3,499 m). And yes, it also has a trunk for storing things like a backpack or delivery items. Other features include full interior and exterior lighting, air conditioning, a 4G internet connection, and gull-wing doors.

THE 70 KG FLY NANO ELECTRIC MICROLIGHT
F
innish aeronautical engineer Aki Suokas launched a remarkable new single-seat aircraft this week at Aero Friedrichshafen. The FlyNano is made entirely of carbon fiber composite, lands and takes off on water, and weighs just 70 kilograms ready to fly. Three variants are available: a 20kW electric-only version, and petrol-engined 24 bhp and 35 bhp models, the latter proposed as a racing version. The Flynano tops out at over 140 km/h, with a service ceiling of 3 km. If you think that's remarkable, the most expensive of the three variants ex-factory and exVAT is just EUR 27,000 (US$39,000) and deliveries begin three months from now. The FlyNano's wingspan is nearly five meters, it has a maximum take off weight of 200 kg and it has a speed range of 70 km/h to 140 km/h. FlyNano's true airspeed is about 140 km/h at 75% power with a theoretical operational distance of 70 kilometers. The almost exclusive use of carbon fiber has enabled the Flynano to come in at under the magic 70 kg weight limit which determines how a new plane is legally classified. In this class in most jurisdictions, there's no license required and a minimum of red tape. Of course there's no passenger and no luggage, but it already rates as a breakthrough in aviation cost-performance.

LARRY FOGG TRIP TO BUCHAREST
I
arrived at Bucharest, Romania, during the afternoon of Friday. After clearing Romanian Immigration, I found an ATM and procured some Romanian new Lie to pay for expenses in Bucharest. The weather was partly cloudy and cold with lots of snow on the ground. I took a taxi from the airport to my hotel and rested up after my long flights from Los Angeles before leaving the hotel in the evening to explore the local neighborhood. I stayed at the Hotel Venezia which faces the Piata Mihail Kogalniceanu in central Bucharest about one km from the main downtown intersection at piata December 1989. It was cold and dark when I left the hotel and I was amazed to find that the sidewalks were covered with snow and ice which made walking difficult – nearly everyone was slipping and sliding as they walked along the sidewalks. I walked to the Piara December 1989 and explored the University subway station and admired the architecture of the buildings. I returned to my hotel and made a list of the tourist attractions that I most wanted to see the following day. After breakfast on Saturday, I got a tourist map and directions to the nearest subway station from the hotel front desk and braved the snow and ice covered sidewalks to the subway. I purchased a ten trip subway ticket and headed off to Piata Romana (Romana Square) to see the 5th Century B.C. bronze Lupa Capitolina (Capitoline Wolf) statue that was cast in the Tiber Valley. It is approximately life-size and depicts the she-wolf suckling a pair of infant human boys, representing the legendary founders of the city of Rome, Romulus, and Remus. I located the 331 Bus and made my way to the 27 meter tall Arcul de Triumf (Arch of Triumph). The first wooden triumphal arch was hurriedly built after Romania had gained its independence in 1878 so the victorious troops could march under it. Another temporary arch, built on the same site in 1922 after World War 1, was demolished in 1935 to make way for the current triumphal arch which was inaugurated in September 1936. After walking around the intersection at the arch, I took the bus back to Piata Romana and then took the subway to Piata December 1989. I admired the statue of Michael the Brave and, with some help from a bus ticket salesperson, I took another bus to the 42 meter tall Foisorul du Foc (Fire Observation Tower). It was used by the firefighters until 1935 when it became ineffective as more high buildings were being erected in Bucharest and the telephone reduced the need for a watchtower. It was turned into a Firefighters' Museum in 1963. I walked from the Fire Observation Tower to the Templul Elen (Hellenic Temple) which is also known as the Greek Church. It was built between 1893 and 1900 by the Greek Government for the Greek diplomatic representation in Romania. Since there was no nearby bus stop, I continued walking back toward city center and
28
came to Piata Pache Protopopescu which had an interesting statue, presumably of Mr. Protopopescu. I continued walking until I reached a bus stop and took the bus back to Piata December 1989 and admired the Bucharest National Theater. I walked past the Sutu Palace and decided to walk along I. O. Bratianu toward Piata Unirii. I passed Piata St. Gheorghe and the beautiful church Bis. Ort. St. Gheorghe. I also passed the Roman Catholic church Bis. Rom.-Cat. Baratiei en route to the historical monument Templul Coral (Coral Temple) built in 1866, 1932 and 1945. When I arrived at the Coral Temple, it was once again undergoing renovation. As I continued on toward Curtea Veche (Old Princely Court) I came across a wonderful tiny church, Bis. Ort. St. Ioan, situated near Piata Uniril. The weather was deteriorating and snow grains were in the air as I arrived at Curtea Veche. Curtea Veche was reportedly built as a place of residence during the rule of Vlad the Devil in the 15th century. It is now an archeological site and operates as a museum which I decided to tour. A portion of the museum consists of underground excavations and the caretaker accompanied me as a guide. EMAL MaGazine
www.emalmag.com
After visiting the museum, I took the subway from Piata Uniril to the Izvor subway station at Parcul Izvor to explore the area of the historical old city that was demolished by Nicolae Ceausescu to make room for the Parliament Palace which is the world's second largest building (after the US Pentagon) and formally named “Casa Poporudu” (People's House). One-ninth of Bucharest was reconstructed to accommodate “Casa Poporudu” and its surroundings. Casa Poporudu, which was built in 1984 by Nicolae Ceausescu, spans 12 stories, has 3100 rooms, and covers 330,000 sq meters. The building has a vast collection of marble rooms, with 100 percent of the marble and all of the original decorations coming from Romania. As I walked along B-dul Libertatii to Casa Poporudu the weather continued to deteriorate into blowing snow flurries. Casa Poporudu is so large that I had to cross over to Piata Constutiei in order to squeeze it into a single photograph. B-dul Unril is an enormous street that runs from Piata Constutiei eastward
29
EMAL MaGazine
www.emalmag.com
through Piata Unirii and beyond. I could only imagine how beautiful Casa Poporudu would be on a clear summer day as viewed from Bdul Unril during the afternoon when the sun would be shining on it. Since the weather continued to deteriorate, I walked back to my hotel and decided to try to visit several museums on Sunday. Unfortunately, the snow increased into near blizzard conditions during the evening and heavy snow was still falling on Sunday morning. After breakfast, I decided to brave the weather and I walked through heavy snow to the Izvor subway station and took the subway to the University Station to go to Bucharest Municipal Museum in Palatul Sutu (Sutu Palace). Palatu Sutu was built between 1833 and 1834 in the Neogothic architectural style. The interior dÊcor was very beautiful with a massive staircase to the second floor and a huge mirror behind the landing midway up the stairway. As one stands in front of the stairway from both the ground level and the second story, a clock has a prominent position on the reflection in the mirror – the clock runs backward and has a backward dial face so the reflection in the mirror depicts the correct time. The museum had quite a few objects relating to the history of Bucharest as well as some objects from prehistoric times. As I departed from the museum, heavy snow was still falling with a strong wind blowing. I decided that it was not prudent for me to take long walks on the treacherous sidewalks to the other buildings and museums that I had planned to visit, so I returned to my hotel. That evening I requested a very early wakeup call and arranged for a 3:00 a.m. taxi to the international airport to catch my 5:40 a.m. flight to Frankfurt, Germany. The taxi was on time and the snow continued falling. As we departed the hotel, the taxi nearly became stuck in the snow on one of the narrow streets. After regaining traction and successfully making it to a main street, we continued to the airport as fleets of snowplows were busy plowing snow. Large equipment was also being used to scoop up piles of snow and to load it into large trucks for transport to someplace away from the streets of Bucharest. Upon arriving at the airport, I was glad my journey through the snowstorm had been successful and that I was able to see most of my high priority sights during my long weekend at Bucharest. After checking into my flight, I actually looked forward to the long flights home.

NATURAL SCRUBS TO GET RID OF YOUR
FACIAL HAIR LEMON JUICE AND HONEY As we know, honey is useful for our skin, as it contains anti-inflammatory property and reduces the signs of aging. It cleanses, lightens the scars, and brightens your skin. Lemon juice removes the dead skin and acts on acne pores. To prepare this scrub: mix one portion of lemon juice with four parts of honey. Apply the paste on face and wait for 15 to 20 minutes. Then wash your face with lukewarm water. This scrub removes facial hair in 3 to 4 weeks. For better results, use the scrub thrice a week.
M ILK AND T URMERIC Milk has an exfoliating property. It removes dead skin. While turmeric helps in getting rid of acne, burns, stretch marks, heel cracks and wrinkles. To prepare the scrub: mix milk, chickpea powder and turmeric in a container until it forms a paste. Now, apply this on the face and wait for 20 minutes. Then wash your face with cold water by slightly massaging over. The scrub has a long lasting effect on facial hair and brings a glow on your face. Use the scrub at least 3 times in a week.
WHEAT SCURB For this, you can try using a wheat flour or gram flour with some milk. Apply all over the face and let it dry naturally. Then using some almond or olive oil, scrub the area well. It particularly works for teens because the hair roots are not very deep. It hurts a little bit but sure provides awesome results. A pumice stone or loofah can be used for gentle exfoliation of hair too.
O RANGE – L EMON P EEL S CRUB Orange peel has been used in the traditional skin care recipes to cleanse the skin. It has high vitamin C content just like lemon peels. Combine these citrus peels to naturally bleach the facial hair. When you combine them with natural exfoliating agents, you can effectively get rid of unwanted facial hair. To prepare the scrub: combine equal quantities of powdered dry orange peel and lemon peel (1 tsp), almond powder (1 tsp), oatmeal (1 tsp), olive oil (1 tsp) and rose water (1 Tsp) to form a paste. Rub this mixture gently on your face in circular strokes for about 5 to 10 minutes. Wash with water and repeat the process 3 times in a week.
34
EGG, CORN FLOUR AND SUGAR Egg helps in removing whiteheads. It also tightens your face reducing wrinkles. Corn flour makes your face extremely soft and radiant. Sugar removes the dead skin and acts on acne. To prepare the scrub, take one whole egg white, one spoon of sugar and half spoon of corn flour. Make a paste by mixing all the ingredients together. Apply the blend on your face and wait until it dries. It forms a mask when it dries. Peel off the mask. Use this scrub thrice a week. Facial hair will also be tweezed along with the mask.

S UGAR AND L EMON Sugar and lemon together make an excellent scrub. Take the juice of one full lemon and mix it with one spoon of sugar dissolved in little amount of water. This mixture must be applied on your face. Let it remain for 15 to 20 minutes and then wash your face with cold water. Repeat this remedy for 3 to 4 times a week and you will notice considerable reduction in facial hair.
F ENUGREEK AND G REEN G RAM If you want to remove the facial hair, you can use fenugreek in the scrub form. To make the scrub, combine equal parts of green gram powder and fenugreek powder and mix it with water to form a paste. Apply the paste evenly on your face and allow it to dry for 15 minutes. Once dried, gently rub the skin using soft dry cloth, so that the paste is removed from your facial skin. By regularly using this scrub, you can get rid of your facial hair.
B ANANA AND O ATMEAL S CRUB Banana is a natural ingredient that can be used to remove hair from the face when mixed with a roughening ingredient like oatmeal that will help in exfoliating your skin. The banana will help in making your skin soft and supple and oatmeal will act as the cleanser for your skin. Both combine to give unique and effective results. Make paste of a banana. Add one or two teaspoons of oatmeal and mix it well. Apply generous amount of this paste and then rub it in circular motion. Allow this paste to sit for 15 to 20 minutes and then wash it off with water to remove the paste completely. Repeat this process two times in a week.
A PRICOT -H ONEY SCRUB Apricots are loaded with minerals and vitamins. It also contains lycopene, which is a wonderful antioxidant. Now, scrub gently in circular strokes for about 15 minutes. Wash your face with lukewarm water. Make sure, that you repeat this remedy at least 2 times a week.
L ENTIL AND P OTATOES Potatoes when combined with yellow lentil will help in effectively removing unwanted hair. Potatoes have natural bleach properties in them. The combination of these two items will help in making the hair color lighter. It is an Ayurvedic process to get rid of the hair on the face. To make the scrub: one potato, a bowl of yellow lentil, one tablespoon of honey, 4 tablespoons of lemon juice and Sieve or cloth. Yellow lentil in water overnight. Peeled potato crush it. Take it in a bowl. Remove all the water from the lentil and grind it to make a paste. Extract the juice from the crushed potato and add it to the yellow lentil paste squeezed lemon juice and honey and mix well. Apply this mixture on your face. Leave it until the paste completely dries out. Now remove the paste from the a-plied area by rubbing your fingers over the paste. You need to repeat this process two to three times in a week.
B ARLEY S CRUB Mild scrubbing agents are not helpful in removing the deep-rooted hair on the face. In such cases, you can use barley as a scrub, which will not only remove the facial hair, but leaves your skin glowing and smooth. Mix equal quantities of barley powder, limejuice and milk to form a paste. Apply the paste to your face and leave for about 30 minutes. Once the paste dries, wash with tepid water. Repeat this remedy 3-4 times in a week.
