ERNA SOLBERG "PRIME MINISTER OF NORWAY" THANKED HER FACEBOOK FRIENDS & FOLLOWERS

Ambassador Javed Malik Organized the First & The Largest Pakistan Business Opportunities Conference possibly the largest in Gulf region in Bahrain. Commerce Ministers H.E Khurram Dastagir Khan from Pakistan and H.E Zayed Al Zayani from Bahrain, Presidents of FPCCI & BCCI joined 400+ delegates keen to expand Pakistan's Economic ties with Bahrain & GCC ties on the upswing.

THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION JUST FINALIZED A RULE THAT GAVE ADDITIONAL PAID SICK LEAVE TO 1,1 MILLION FEDERAL CONTRACTORS, INCLUDING NEARLY 600,0000 EMPLOYEES WHO DONT CURRENTLY HAVE A SINGLE DAY

Dear Facebook friends and followers! Thank you so much for big commitment on my side too in the summer scorcher. I appreciate all the contributions and comments you come out with. Even though I don't manage to answer everything, are also among those who I spend a lot of time on social media and read the vast majority who written to me. This direct contact with people is valuable: it gives me an indication of what many think, at the same time as you can share thoughts on government policy or the development of society. Big and small things. A Prime Minister can obviously never log off completely, but I'm coming to prioritize time for the people closest to me, a couple of good books, music in my ear, some soling and maybe a little swimming.

The United States is the only industrialized country in the world where employees aren't guaranteed the right to take a paid sick day off of work. As a result, there are some 44 million workers in the private sector without paid leave who are incentivized to show up to their job even if they or their child has the flu. It's a sad state of affairs—one that won't drastically change as long as conservatives, who tend to oppose mandating workplace benefits, control Capitol Hill and so many state legislatures. On Thursday, however, the Obama administration is announcing a new regulation that will make a small but symbolic difference. The Department of Labor has finalized a rule requiring businesses to provide paid sick leave to employees working on contracts with the federal government. Individuals will be able to earn up to seven paid sick days in a year. The administration says the regulation will extend the benefit to almost 600,000 workers who currently lack it.

NISSAN GT-R GETS THE NISMO TREATMENT FOR NEW TRACK EDITION

Nissan has unveiled a new Track Edition of its flagship GT-R model. Based on the car's 2017 vintage, which premiered in March, it has been engineered by the marque's NISMO racing division, which has squeezed in a few more horses under the hood and added some stiffness and stability to the ride. The Track Edition has the same hand-assembled 3.8-l twinturbo V6 engine as the 2017 model, but kicks out 570 PS (562 hp/419 kW) compared to 565 PS (557 hp/415 kW) and 637 Nm (470 lb.ft) of torque compared to 633 Nm (467 lb.ft). To make the most of this extra power on the track, the exterior is more aerodynamically refined and Nissan has sought to increase both straight-line and cornering stability. Among the hardware additions aimed at aiding track performance are bespoke Bilstein Damptronic suspension and a new anti-roll bar, the latter having been brought in to stiffen things up but to keep weight down. There are also new NISMO Racing Black forged 20-in aluminum wheels and a wider front bumper. Despite seeking to limit weight in other areas, Nissan hasn't opted for a stripped down interior. In fact, it's gone premium, with an 8-in touchscreen infotainment system and a Bose soundsystem. Elsewhere, there are a few aspects of the GT-R Track Edition that are market-specific. Carbon-backed Recaro seats are standard in Germany, for example, but black and red GT-R Black Edition seats are standard in France and the UK. There's also a carbon rear spoiler as standard in France and the UK that is only optional in Germany. When all's said and done, the tweaks made don't trouble the GT-R NISMO, which sits at the top of the GT-R pecking order, but they do slot the Track Edition in above the Premium, Prestige and Black Editions.

10 EMAL MaGazine

If you want to get your hands on one, you'll be looking at â‚Ź118,900 (about US$134,000), with deliveries scheduled to begin from November. Nissan tells New Atlas that the GT-R Track Edition release will focus on Germany, France and the UK, but that the car will be available to suitors elsewhere, too.

iPhone 7 Plus review: Incremental and imposing

W

ecouldalmostreviewtheiPhone7Plusby pointing to our iPhone 7 review and saying "That. But bigger." There is at least one key difference, though, between Apple's standard and phablet flagships this year. Let's take a look at our experience with the bigger of the two: It's NewAtlas'iPhone7Plusreview. As Emily much more eloquently stated in her review of the 4.7-inch model, the new iPhones do enough to maintain Apple's status as the designer brand of smartphones. They don't pack in the most eyepopping feature lists or spec sheets and they certainly don't reinvent the wheel. But if you want a top-notch experiencethat, formanypeople, getsthefitandfinish just right – while delivering a small but notable step forward from last year's models – then one of the iPhone 7 pair may be your best bet for the foreseeable future. The list of identical features shared between the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus could fill a long piece of parchment. The list includes (among other things) design, build, processor, storage, software, water resistance and a headphone jack that's now sleeping withthefishes. But what's different? And is there any reason other thanyourpersonalsizepreferencetopickoneoverthe other? The biggest point where the two phones veer off is the rear camera. Or, in the Plus' case, cameras. This new pluralityarrivescourtesyofthesecondrearcameraon thephabletthatgivesyou2xopticalzoom.

12 EMAL MaGazine

www.emalmag.com

In case you're confused, thinking "I've been able to zoom in with every smartphone I've owned – what's so special about this?" then consider how those zoomed-in shots looked. Probably like something taken with a Moto Razr flip phone, circa 2006. That's because digital zoom is nothing more than a crop that happens before you take the pic. You could have held the phone at the same angle, snappedashotwithzerozoomand, upon cropping after the fact, gotten the exact same shot as if you'd used digital zoom. The iPhone 7 Plus' second camera is permanently fixed at 2x the zoom of the main camera, giving you a shot that looks like you held the phone much closer than you really did – with no drop in resolution or quality. That also means that digital zoom beyond 2x will look much better than digital zoom at the same level on the iPhone7oranyotherphone. It only takes a tap of an onscreen button to switch between the two cameras, and two optical zoom distances. The process works brilliantly from start to finish. If you don't mind using a big honkin' phone and you can afford to pay an extra US$120, the telephoto camera alone could make the 7 Plusthebetterbuy. Later this year Apple will launch a portrait mode camera feature that will be exclusive to the 7 Plus, which uses both cameras to simulate the bokeh (blurred background) effect that you'd get from an somehow improve its algorithms expensive DSLR or mirrorless camera enough to work near-flawlessly most of withwide-aperturelens. the time, this will be one less reason for your casual-hobbyist photographer to The feature isn't available yet, though, buyanexpensivecamera. and the version that you can try in the iOS 10.1 developer beta shows that it's still a We'll revisit portrait mode in a separate little rough around the edges. We aren't too jazzed about the questionable removal of the headphone jack, we weren't blown away by battery life, and some changes in iOS 10 feel very much like they're trying: things like oft-confusing 3D Touch features being pushed harder on users and cluttering up the Messages app with silly featuresaimedatSnapchatting15-year-olds. DISPLAY A GREAT COLLECTION ON A DINING ROOM TABLE

In the living room of an Atlanta house by designer Beth Webb, an elm plank table from Clubcu, which often doubles as a dining table, dramatically displays a collection of Chinese porcelains. "The pieces don't have to match, but they do have to play together well".

HANG AN INTERIOR CURTAIN In the kitchen of the same Atlanta house, a linen curtain runs on a track spanning the room and can be pulled "to conceal the mess of preparation". Steel-and-glass casements frame views of the pool and garden.

MIX AND MATCH YOUR BEDDING "We call this 'the sailor room,' because we went all out with the nautical theme," designer Ken Fulk says of a bedroom in his Massachusetts vacation house. "The mixand-match nature of the patterns and faded batik prints make it feel like it's a collection of old textiles brought back from a journey at sea." John Robshaw bedding. This Kansas City house's dining room, a former loggia, is "light, bright, and airy," homeowner and designer Zim Loy says. "I accomplished that with lots of white paint." She bought a beatup old $60 table at an estate sale and gave it a fresh new look by the painting the base high-gloss white. Its curves echo the arms of the Barbara Cosgrove chandelier.

DRESS UP HALLWAYS WITH TURKISH RUNNERS In the second-floor hallway of a California house, designer Betsy Burnham overlaps Turkish runners from Rugs & Art, drawing the eye to a Moroccan-inspired reading nook. The vintage carpets "can transform a plain hallway into a decorated space," Burnham says. "A really faded, tattered rug is instantly Bohemian." The window seat is covered in Tibet woven silk from S. LARRY FOGG TRIP TO CHINA-CHONGQING

J

an and I booked an October 2016 Roof of the World China Tour by Viking River Cruises which included visiting Shanghai, a Yangtze River cruise from Wuhan to Chongqing, visiting Tibet, visiting the Terra Cotta Soldiers at Xi’an, and visiting Beijing. During July, Jan’s doctor told her that she could not go to Tibet due to the high altitude. Instead of cancelling the tour, we decided that we would visit with my friends in Chongqing while the tour visited Tibet and then re-join the tour at Xi’an. We arrived at Chongqing early Thursday morning on 29 October. After saying good-bye to our friends on the Viking River tour, we disembarked from the Emerald Viking cruise ship and took a taxi to the Chongqing Crown Plaza Hotel. Later my friends – Summer, Peng, and Peng’s husband, Thong – picked us up at the hotel. Summer and Peng are Air China flight attendants, and Thong is an Air China mechanic. They took us to visit the Three Gorges Museum and the People’s Auditorium, which are both situated on the People’s Square. I had visited both in 2013, but I wanted Jan to see them. Unfortunately, the Three Gorges exhibit hall was closed, but the remainder of the museum had wonderful exhibits. The People’s Auditorium is directly across the square from the Three Gorges Museum. Both the museum and auditorium are detailed during my April 2013 trip to China. Our next stop was at the Hongya Cave Folk-Custom Scene Area where we ate lunch and walked through multiple floors of small shops and a rooftop patio. Our last stop of the day was Ciqikou (Porcelain Village), an ancient village situated on the bank of the Jailing River where we ate dinner and explored the village. The history of Ciqikou can be traced back more than 1,700 years and provides some insight into what Chongqing looked like in the distant past. On Friday, 30 October, Jan and I took a tour with a

private English-speaking guide to the Dazu Rock Carvings that Peng had arranged for us in advance. The tour included a stop at the Dazu Haitangxiangguo Style Historical and Cultural Center and lunch at the China Dazu Best Kitchen Culture Museum before actually visiting the rock carvings. Haitangxiangguo is best described as a modern-day replica of an ancient town, and the Kitchen Culture Museum was a knife store with some statues on the lawn in front of the store. Dazu is famous for the Dazu Rock Carvings that were carved in the late Tang Dynasty (618-907 CE) and early Song dynasty (960-1279 CE) and were included on the World Cultural Heritage List in 1999. I had visited multiple sites of Dazu Rock Carvings in April 2013 by private car and driver, but the Goddess of Mercy statue at Baoding Mountain was closed at that time. The Baoding Mountain Cliff Carving is located in a U-shaped valley surrounded by cliffs on three sides with a 500-meter long religious art gallery carved on the cliffs. Marvelous statues are carved along the mountain with one giant niche

beside another. Our English-speaking guide provided comprehensive explanations of the different statues to Jan as we strolled among the several thousand different carvings. The statue of the Goddess of Mercy with 1,000 hands and 1,000 eyes is vividly and delicately carved. Her 1,007 hands fan out on an 88 square-meter cliff just like the tail of a peacock. She is truly a breathtakingly beautiful sight to see, and I was very happy to see her this trip. On the way back to Chongqing, the traffic was so bad that our guide suggested that we get off of the bus and walk to the nearest train station. We rode the train to a station near our hotel and took a taxi from there to our hotel. Anyone who wants to visit the Dazu Rock Carvings should consider hiring an English speaking guide who can also arrange for a private car or taxi instead of booking the group bus tour.

Peng and Summer picked us up early Saturday morning, 31 October, to go to the Chongqing Zoo to see the Red and Giant Pandas. Summer continued on to a family gathering while we walked around the zoo admiring the pandas and other animals. Peng had never been to the zoo, and she decided that she will bring her baby boy there as soon as he is a little bit older. Since 31 October was also Buddha’s birthday, we went to the Huayan Temple, the largest Buddhist temple in Chongqing. We ate lunch at a local noodle restaurant across the road from the temple. There were throngs of people visiting the temple with offerings, and it was an amazing sight to experience. We explored the temple grounds and later Summer joined us. That evening, Summer and Peng took us to the Dezhuang Meimeimei Hot Pot restaurant for traditional Chongqing hot pot. The hot pot dinner was superb and, after dinner, we all said good-bye at our hotel. Our visit with my friends in Chongqing was wonderful, and we hope that they can come to Los Angeles to visit with us in the near future. We flew to Xi’an on Monday, 1 November, to re-join our Viking River tour group.

MENTRENDS www.emalmag.com

Menswear Trends for Fall/Winter

2016-2017

With luxurious furs, a neo-Seven es revival and Bordeaux-based pale es, Winter 2015 is set to be stylish. A Bri sh fashion movement that plays with genres and ignores the conven onal male uniform has ďŹ nally found its way to the great Italian and French fashion houses. Take a look back at the 15 menswear trends we spo ed for Fall/Winter 2016-2017.

FUR

VELVET A staple of the preppy look, whether it's trousers or a jacket, velvet is making a comeback. We have our eye on the XXL Fendi corduroy trousers, Bo ega Veneta's casual spin on the look and this velvet suit by Alexander McQueen.

38 EMAL MaGazine

Fur for men had a surprisingly strong presence on the runways, bringing a deluge of ostenta ous and opulent styles. Stepping out of the discreet shadow cast by cropped fur are more luxurious, showstopping styles. We'll be wearing it in black, brown, to the thigh, to the knee, 3/4 and, always oversized.

www.emalmag.com

BURGUNDY With an appearance in all of the biggest shows, burgundy is the clear frontrunner for color of the season. Winter calls for warm, comfor ng tones such as the wine or purple shades showcased by Lanvin, Dior Homme, Va l e n n o , B e r l u a n d Alexander McQueen.

THE BAGGY

TROUSER

Baggy trousers are overtaking straight-legged or skinny cuts this winter, with the loose ďŹ t crea ng a whole new silhoue e favored by Lanvin, Margiela and Wooyoungmi.

THE OVERSIZED

COAT

The best way to stay warm in the peak of winter in 2015 is to swap your parka for an oversized coat in double-layered cashmere, padded or alpaca wool.

39 EMAL MaGazine

www.emalmag.com

THE LONG SCARF A long scarf with a slightly aristocra c air is the favored companion of a reďŹ ned look this winter, whether it's ed around the neck or hidden under the shirt, cowboy-style.

BROWN Brown and its many shades are making a remarkable comeback and dus ng o their fusty image, with burgundy emerging as the color of the season.

THE THREE-QUARTER LENGTH COAT The optimum length for the season, your Fall/Winter coat should reach just below the knee for a sharp, distinct allure as demonstrated by Dior, Lanvin, Dries Van Noten and Wooyoungmi.

BEAUT Y & CARE www.emalmag.com

OH THAT SMILE! By Cecily Whiteside

N

othing says health and beauty like a sparkling smile. The eyes may be the window to the soul, but our teeth are what others notice about us first. While heredity limits some of what we can do to have a galvanizing grin, there are a few simple ways to make the most of your own sexy smile. Caring for your most distinguishing facial feature should be the first thing you do each morning and the last thing each night.

POORLY ALIGNED BITES CAN GET ROTATION OF THE TEETH The other major components that can interfere with a stellar smile are mechanical in nature. "We call them occlusal issues," Dr. Gall explains. "If your bite is poorly aligned you can get rotation of the teeth. If you have bad habits like grinding or nail biting, this can be destructive to your teeth. With these issues I see cracks, fractures and bad wear patterns. They can cause gum recession and bone loss, which can eventually lead to tooth loss as well." Some of these issues can be addressed by orthodontia or occlusal guards. A more permanent solution may be recontouring of the biting surface to align the teeth better.

42 EMAL MaGazine

TWO PRIMARY CAUSES OF DENTAL DISEASE ."The two primary causes of dental disease are bacteria and function or mechanical issues," says Andrew Gall, DDS. "To prevent decay and gum disease from bacterial causes, the best preventative measures are brushing and flossing at least twice a day." There has been a recent flurry of anti-flossing media attention, but Dr. Gall is not changing his stance. "Bristles from your toothbrush can reach three of the five surfaces of your tooth; the gum side, the tongue side and the biting surface. Two sides contact each other between the teeth and if you leave those uncleaned, bacteria will colonize those surfaces. The majority of decay I see is between the teeth." While fluoride rinses and waterpiks can help, Dr. Gall calls these things a good adjunct to flossing, not a replacement. "Floss stirs up the bacteria between the teeth, so using a rinse after flossing can help clean that out and reduce its growth, but a rinse will not actually kill the bacteria. If you don't clear it [by flossing] you are setting yourself up for periodontal disease."

www.emalmag.com

NO ILL EFFECTS FROM DISCOLOURATION Tooth health is often associated with a white smile. While Dr. Gall has seen no ill effects from discolouration, he is a proponent of bleaching for those who want to brighten their smile. "There is very little downside to bleaching your teeth," he says. "You may have some transient cold sensitivity or gum irritation from the bleach, but there are no long-term ill effects." He suggests going to a dentist for bleach. "It will cost around $300 for the trays and bleach solution, but your teeth will stay white for about seven years. The bleaching toothpaste you can buy over the counter has no effect. It's just too diluted." Another alternative is porcelain veneers, but at $1200 per tooth, and permanent alteration to the teeth, bleaching seems a wiser choice. When asked what makes a beautiful smile, Dr. Gall's response is immediate: "The person it's attached to!" Take care of your teeth for the long term benefits, and remember, smile and the world smiles with you. You're beautiful that way. Here are few homemade tips that take care of your teeth health.

BAKING SODA AND LEMON JUICE PASTE - Several teaspoons of baking soda - Enough lemon juice or water to form a paste - A toothbrush Directions Mix several teaspoons of baking soda with enough fresh lemon juice (or water) to make a paste. Wipe your teeth and any extra saliva off of them with a paper towel. Put a good amount of paste onto your toothbrush and apply. Leave the paste on for 1 minute, then rinse, so as to avoid the acid effecting enamel. If you are using just water you can leave it on for up to 3 minutes. Do this twice a month not more then that.

STRAWBERRY, SALT & BAKING SODA SCRUB - 1-3 large strawberries - A pinch of seat salt - 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda (optional)

COCONUT OIL RINSE -About a tablespoon of coconut oil Directions In the morning, before you brush your teeth, scoop out a tablespoon or a little less (depending on the size of your mouth) of coconut oil. You can either soften it, or just put it in your mouth (I usually do the latter, and just let it soften.) Push, swish, and "pull" the oil through and around your teeth for 10-15 minutes, then spit it out, rinse with water, and brush your teeth. You can use either of the pastes after you have brushed your teeth at night if you prefer. Are these remedies going to guarantee ridiculously white teeth within a week? No. You may start to see a difference, but it won't be as instant as the commercial products. In the end, will your teeth be so white people squint when you open your mouth? No. And I like it better that way. Your mouth overall feels healthier. We live in a world where photo-shopped faces (and teeth) and make-up covered celebrities set the standard for how we look, which makes life hard for people who like, well, real people. As a result we seem to forget what's good for ourselves, and spend a ton of money just to look like the ideal. By going natural here, you can feel better about yourself, and have a healthier mouth (and health is what, in the end, creates real beauty.)
