DEMOCRATS LOOKING TO SET UP EXPERT PANEL ON DONALD TRUMP'S MENTAL HEALTH Democratic members of Congress are planning something unusual for politicians in the United States: Meeting with a psychiatrist to talk about forming an expert panel to consider the mental health of the President. Since his unexpected rise to being arguably the most powerful man in the world, Donald Trump’s unusual style has raised eyebrows from concerned citizens who wonder if he may be exhibiting symptoms of dangerous mental illness. So, the p o l i t i c i a n s a re b r i n g i n g i n a psychiatrist at the Yale School of Medicine to help get to the bottom of things. Yale’s Bandy Lee will meet with three legislators and heir staff, and a former member of Congress, to discuss how the congressmen might assemble mental health professionals “to review the

The Democrats are remaining anonymous for now president’s mental health, and review it on a periodic basis,” according to STAT News. The three legislators have decided to remain anonymous for now, but expect to have a meeting with Ms Lee in a closed meeting in September. access to important details. Mr Trump has released no personal medical records, aside from a one-page letter from his family doctor. That letter, released before the election, claimed Mr Trump would be the “healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency.” But, forming opinions on someone a psychiatrist has never met may pose ethical problems as well.

NORWAY TO BAN THE USE OF OIL FOR HEATING BUILDINGS BY 2020 Norway is set to become the first country in the entire world to ban the use of gas to heat buildings. The Scandinavian country, which is the world's largest producer of oil and natural gas outside the Middle East, will wholly stop the use of both oil and paraffin to warm buildings from 2020 onwards. The country, which hopes to ban the sale of all fossil fuel-based cars by 2025, has made a concerted effort to introduce policies which shrink domestic emission of greenhouse gases. Vidar Helgesenlaid, the nation’s Environment Minister, laid out the plans in a statement, saying: “Those using fossil oil for heating must find other options by 2020.” The country advises its citizens to research alternatives to oil such as heat pumps, hydroelectricity, and even special stoves that burn wood chips. By some stage, the legislation

'Those using fossil oil for heating must find other options by 2020,' says country's Environment Minister could be widened to include restrictions on using natural gas to heat buildings. The Ministry of Climate and Environment said the ban would apply to both new and old buildings and cover both private homes and the public space

of businesses and state-owned facilities. The ministry says the plans are expected to lessen Norway's emissions of heattrapping greenhouse gases by an estimated 340,000 tonnes per year, compared to overall national emissions of 53.9 million tonnes in 2015.

MOHAMMED BIN RASHID APPROVES NEW BUILDING PERMIT PROCEDURES DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum approved the new strategy for Building Permit Procedures Development in Dubai. The strategy is built upon three pillars, first developing & streamlining building permit procedures, then unifying systems & requirement, while the last one provides a “one stop shop” where all the procedures and building permits processes in Dubai can be completed. The three pillars represent a comprehensive scheme that will ensure speeding the process of acquiring permits in all its stages. Assistant Director General of Dubai Municipality of Engineering and Planning, and Head of the Committee Daoud AbdulRahman Al Hajri said that the new strategy reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, aiming to enhance customers’ happiness & save them time & efforts to create a stimulating environment that promotes Dubai’s infamous investment climate. As for the strategy preparation process, Al Hajri noted that since its formation in February 2017, the Committee held several meetings & workshops with the concerned stakeholders to discuss the various details of acquiring building permits. The Committee also formed four teams to conduct detailed researches & studies, where the first team works on developing the new building regulations based on the feedback gathered from customers, contractors and consultancies. The second team’s scope of work includes licensing the consultancy & contracting companies based on standards that will ensure considering the permit’s conditions and requirements, while the third team is concerned with selecting building materials to study its

12 EMAL MaGazine

Only five steps to obtain building permits in Dubai technical specifications and ensure its compliance with the standard specifications then register them. The fourth team will study & analyze the bids submitted by IT companies to develop the intended electronic payment system. M P S T The first pillar of the strategy aims to minimize the required time to acquire permits through a new set of integrated steps. the committee has simplified the procedure to just five steps, through which the involved public authorities can conduct all the inspection tasks through unified teams, while all the concerted departments are required to reply to all the submitted applications within three days for each of the five steps if the consultant & the contactor meet all the requirements. This is a record time to complete the permit procedures, which will provide a unique customer-service. U B S R In order to provide a set of aligned procedures that will be a pillar for the process of acquiring permits during the next stage, the Committee is currently working on putting a unified building regulation for Dubai to provide a comprehensive guideline for the customers. The Committee will also register the contracting and consulting companies, after the meeting that it held with the

key stakeholders to discuss the features of the new strategy and the benefits it provides to the building and construction sector. O S S A P P The strategy focuses on digital & electronic advancement to develop the permitting process though keeping up to date with the smart transformation in all D u b a i G o v e r n m e n t ’s e n t i t i e s & departments. Therefore, it will develop a set of smart electronic systems to build a central unified scheme to provide smart services through one window and on the phone, where customers (consultants, contractors, owners and developers) to follow up on the status of their permit request, pay fees and insurance and book appointments. The one stop shop will be linked to Dubai Building Permit System, which will be developed to include the requirements of all the authorities involved in the permitting process in Dubai. The Committee includes Dubai Municipality, Roads & Transport Authority, Dubai Electricity & Water Authority, The Department of Economic Development, Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Directorate General of Civil Defence-Dubai, Investment Corporation of Dubai, Meraas Holding, Etisalat, Du, Dubai International Financial Centre, Dubai Creative Clusters Authority, Ports, and Customs and Free Zone Corporation.

SAMSUNG'S 88-INCH MONSTER IS THE WORLD'S LARGEST QLED TV

The latest 88-inch offering from Samsung is the largest QLED TV to hit the market

hereas cathode ray tube technology used to limit TV size, the move to flat screen technologies has seen the creation of some monster panels. Although it's not quite as impressive as the 262-in (6.65-m) TV, the latest 88inch offering from Samsung is the largest QLED TV to hit the market.

bigger display area than four 43-inch panels arranged in a rectangle. For readers who are smartphone obsessed, that's equivalent to the display area of 200 S8s. Make sure you have enough wall space before purchase, then. That enormous screen offers a 240 Hz refresh rate and 3840 x 2160 UHD resolution along with a 10-bit HDR system. Connectivity is provided by four HDMI ports, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Rather than forcing buyers to hide cabling within their walls or – shock, horror – having messy wires dangling beneath their TV, there's a transparent optical cable in the box for a nearinvisible connections to peripherals.

Before we jump into the 88-inch Q9 specifically, here's a refresher on what QLED actually means. In quantum dot televisions, there's a thin layer of semiconducting crystals wedged between the backlight and LCD screen. In QLED televisions, those little dots are made with a metal alloy designed to reproduce color and contrast that rivals OLED panels. Samsung claims the Like the rest of the Samsung QLED te c h n o l o g y a l l o w s i t s Q - S e r i e s televisions to recreate the DCI-P3 color space – most naturally occurring colors – with 100 percent accuracy, something no other brand has managed. Of course, you'll need to wrap your head around the sheer size of the Q9 before you're able to actually enjoy that picture. The latest Samsung television is 197.9 cm (78 in) wide, and has a

range, the 88-inch screen has been designed with thin bezels and a very thin profile. Combined with the dedicated wall mounting system, it sits flush against the wall. As you might expect, this big-screen unit isn't cheap. You'll pay US$20,000 for the privilege of mounting this massive monument to "Peak TV" on your wall. Samsung also offers QLED sets in 55-, 65- and 75-inch sizes, with the 55-inch Q7F QLED TV going for a far more palatable $2,500. Then again, that is pocket change compared to the aforementioned C Seed 4K panel measuring 262-in. It's worth a cool US$549,000 before installation.

NEW STUDY OFFERS INSIGHTS INTO HOW WE CAN LEARN WHILE WE SLEEP

R

esearch from a team in Paris has fo u n d t h a t n e w a u d i t o r y memories can be formed while we sleep, as long as they are delivered during the right sleep phase. The idea we can form new memories while we slumber has been a topic of great debate among scientists in recent years and this new study demonstrates that the brain can indeed learn new information in a sleeping state. The realm of "sleep learning" has sat precariously on the fringes of pseudoscience for decades. Subliminal sleep brain training is popular in the self-help world, but science has struggled to clearly show whether or not we do actually have a capacity to take in new information while we sleep. The connection between sleep and memory has been the subject of much research, and the process of sleeping has been shown to play an important part in how we retain new information. This process is generally referred to as memory consolidation, where we essentially sort all the information gathered during our waking day and file it into higher cortical centers. Exactly what information is consolidated during different sleep phases is still the subject of some debate, but the general view is that emotional memories are consolidated during REM sleep, while declarative memories such as facts and figures are

18 EMAL MaGazine

A new sleep learning study has found subjects can remember auditory information delivered to them while asleep consolidated during slow wave, or deep unlearned, if subsequently played sleep. through the N3 phase. In this new study, researchers exposed sleeping subjects to white noise that incorporated repeated patterns of tones. The goal was to study how their brains responded to those sounds at different stages of sleep under electroencephalographic analysis, and also to see if the subjects had greater recognition of these sounds upon waking, which would indicate their brains had learned the sound patterns while sleeping.

This fascinating result further adds weight to reconciling the two seemingly contradictory theories on sleep's function in memory. The inability for subjects to imprint new memories during N3 deep sleep indicates this is most likely when the brain is effectively discarding unnecessary information. Whereas the more active N2 and REM phases indicate times when the s l e e p i n g b ra i n c a n st i l l a c c e p t information. Hence, sleep can act as both memory consolidation and Interestingly, according to both the "memory dump" depending on the analysis of the EEG results and through phase. behavioral responses after waking, all subjects seemed to display evidence of Ultimately, this new study makes it learning the sound patterns if they clear that our brains are certainly able were heard in REM sleep phases. to remember auditory signals heard Learning characteristics were also while asleep as long at the sounds are displayed when subjects were in the N2 delivered during the correct phase. sleep phase, which occurs right before Further investigation needs to be done entering the slow-wave (N3) deep sleep to see if this phenomenon translates into more complex auditory learning, phase. such as words, but the big takeaway Conversely, the opposite effect was here is that you better time those sleep seen in when the sounds were played to learning tapes to the right sleep phase subjects across the deep sleep (N3) otherwise you may be sending all that phase. SCULPTURAL ISLAND Ashley Whittaker gutted a New York apartment's kitchen, replacing the dark cabinetry and terra-cotta tiles with white cupboards and Carrara marble. "The room now feels twice as big," she says. The slim table provides extra counter space and doubles as a breakfast nook. Rather than recessed lighting, she chose a birdcage lantern from the HomePort Collections. "It's whimsical," she explains. "When you're working with a small apartment, why not make the kitchen feel like another decorated room?"

LARRY FOGG TRIP TO PACIFIC NORTHWEST

J

an and I wanted to visit friends on Orcas Island, Washington, in the San Juan Islands and in the vicinity of Seattle, Washington. In addition, we wanted to visit Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia (BC), Canada. We booked a repositioning cruise from San Diego to Vancouver aboard the Holland America ship, MAASDAM. The cruise itinerary included a stop at Victoria, BC. This would be a repeat of the same repositioning cruise that we took in May 2015. We took the Amtrak train from Los Angeles to San Diego and boarded the MAASDAM on Wednesday, 18 May, and settled into our cabin. The ship departed San Diego that evening and began the journey to Vancouver. After open-ocean sailing for the next three days, we arrived at Victoria, BC, during late afternoon on Saturday, 21 May. The ship arrived at Victoria several hours late due to some time lost when we encountered rough seas west of San Francisco. Since the weather at Victoria was overcast with misting rain showers when we arrived, we opted to take a short walk along the Unity Wall and Breakwater adjacent to the cruise ship port. We set sail at midnight for the short voyage from Victoria to Vancouver and disembarked at Canada Place pier on Sunday, 22 May at about 9:30 AM. After checking into our hotel, we took a taxi to visit the University of British Columbia (UBC) Botanical Garden and the UBC Museum of Anthropology. The UBC Botanical Garden is situated in one of Vancouver’s Coastal Rainforests. In addition to viewing the beautiful flower gardens, we also took the Greenheart Canopy Walkway within a portion of the forest. The canopy walkway is a series of suspended walkways and tree platforms high above the forest floor. We took a UBC campus bus from the main botanical garden area to the Nitobe Memorial Garden, which is also part of the UBC Botanical Garden. It is a Traditional Japanese Tea and Stroll Garden that is ranked in the top five Japanese Gardens in North America. It was small and very beautiful, with another party taking wedding photos. We walked from the Nitobe Memorial Garden to the UBC Museum of Anthropology. This museum was magnificent and should not be missed when visiting Vancouver. In addition, this museum had a special exhibition of the Contemporary Art of the Sepik River, Papua New Guinea. We visited the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park located in North Vancouver on Monday, 23 May. I had purchased tickets in advance on the Internet, and we were able to catch a special Capilano Bus near our hotel that took us directly to the park. The park is named after a suspension footbridge

42 EMAL MaGazine

450 feet long and 230 feet high across the Capilano River Canyon. The park has been attracting tourists since 1889. In addition to the suspension bridge, the park has a rainforest with paths and boardwalks, a Cliffwalk, and a Treetops Adventure. The Cliffwalk is a structure attached to the face of the cliff on one side of the canyon for visitors to walk along the face of the cliff, examine the geology of the cliff, and enjoy exhilarating views of the canyon below. Raptors Ridge is a path and boardwalk through the rainforest. The Treetops Adventure is a system of tree-friendly platforms and suspension bridges that allow pedestrians to walk the treetop canopy. After we returned to our hotel, we decided to use the Downtown Vancouver Official Walking Map to walk to the Chinatown district and visit the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Garden. The map was a godsend and easy to follow, but the museum was closed when we arrived. We continued walking to the Gastown district on our way back to the hotel. The following day, we continued walking in Vancouver. During our walk we visited the Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art, a private museum displaying many of the works of Bill Reid. It was a

34 www.emalmag.com

very impressive museum and we were glad we stopped to have a look inside. We also visited the Christ Church Cathedral, Harbour Green Park, the Digital Orca sculpture, the Vancouver Convention Centre, the Steam Clock, the Gassy Jack Statue, the Chinatown Milenniun Gate, and finally the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Garden. The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Garden is the first of its kind built outside of China. Fifty-three master craftsmen came from China with 950 crates of material and constructed the Garden using traditional methods – no glue, screws, or power tools were used. It is modeled after the highest standards of private classical gardens in the city of Suzhou during the Ming Dynasty (13681644). Construction began in March 1985 and cost 5.3 million dollars. It was officially opened in 1986. Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Park is a public park adjacent to the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Garden. On Wednesday, 25 May, we took the BC Ferries Connector service from Vancouver to Victoria, which is located on Vancouver Island. I had advance purchased tickets and we were picked up at our hotel by a shuttle bus that transferred us to a large bus that drove us to the ferry. The bus boarded the ferry and then delivered us to downtown Victoria. It was the perfect way to travel from

Vancouver to Victoria and exceeded all of our expectations. Upon arrival at Victoria, we walked to our hotel and waited to meet up with Tom and Leslie, our friends from Orcas Island. They had taken the ferry from Orcas Island to Victoria to meet up with us. That evening, we ate dinner at the Fish Hook Restaurant where Leslie had made reservations weeks in advance. Leslie said that it was rated the best restaurant in Victoria. It was casual, very small, the food was superb, and it certainly lived up to its reputation. After dinner, we all walked around old town Victoria and along the Inner Harbour. The Legislature Building was illuminated with lights very similar to the way the Palace at Mysore, India, is illuminated after dark – very beautiful indeed! The following morning, Tom and Leslie drove us to the worldfamous Butchart Gardens. It was a beautiful sunny day with perfect weather to stroll leisurely through the magnificent gardens. There were so many beautiful landscapes that included the Sunken Garden, Rose Garden, Japanese Garden, Star Pond, Italian Garden, Piazza, and Mediterranean Garden. Butchart Gardens covers more than 55 acres of a 130 acre estate and has attracted visitors since

43 EMAL MaGazine

www.emalmag.com

the 1920s. We were in awe and amazement throughout our visit. We also visited the Victoria Butterfly Gardens, which is located near the Butchart Gardens. It was also an amazing place to visit with at least twenty-five different species of butterflies, many rainforest plants, parrots, flamingos, turtles, and a large Iguana lizard. The butterflies would land on the visitors and people needed to check to make sure that they weren’t wearing any butterflies when they exited the enclosure. We returned to downtown Victoria and ate a late afternoon lunch at a classic pub before continuing to walk around the old town area and inner harbor that afternoon. During our walks, we stopped to admire the collection of totem poles on the grounds of the Royal BC Museum. On Friday, 27 May, we drove to the ferry terminal at Sydney, BC, where we cleared US Customs and boarded the ferry to San Juan Island. After disembarking the ferry, we drove to the San Juan Island Sculpture Park where we strolled among acres of interesting sculptures, all of which were for sale. We returned to the ferry queue and ate lunch at a quaint local pub while waiting for the time to board the ferry to Orcas Island. It was a short ferry ride to Orcas Island and we drove home with Tom and Leslie where we visited until Tuesday, 31 May. I continued daily hikes during our stay on Orcas Island and Leslie prepared some wonderful meals that we thoroughly enjoyed. On Tuesday, 31 May, Tom and Leslie drove us to the Orcas Island Ferry Terminal. En route to the terminal, we stopped at the two barns painted by the high school senior class with each painting over the work of the prior years’ class. The old barn was last painted by the Class of 2014, and the new barn was painted by the Class of 2016. The old barn continues to be on the verge of collapse. We boarded the ferry to Anacortes, Washington, and then caught the BelAir Airporter Shuttle bus to the SEA/TAC International Airport. Our friends, John and Diane, from Federal Way, Washington, met us at the airport. We spent the next five days visiting with them and their son, David, and his wife, Doreen, who live in Tacoma, Washington. On Wednesday, 1 June, John and Diane drove us to the Flying Heritage Collection at Paine Field near Everett, WA. This is the collection established by Paul Allen in the 1990s and houses a unique assemblage of rare aircraft and vehicles from the World War II era. Not only does each artifact appear exactly as it did in combat, most are fully functional. These vintage planes also take to the skies on scheduled Fly Days. On Thursday, we visited the Soos Creek Botanical Garden in Auburn, WA. It occupies 22 acres of beautifully designed gardens and woodland. We strolled through the gardens and woodland admiring the landscaping and blooming flowers that were in season.

44 EMAL MaGazine

There is no charge to visit the garden and different plants bloom at different months during the year. John and Diane plan to return during different times of the year. David and Doreen drove all of us to Mt. Rainier National Park on Friday, 3 June. We drove southbound on Route 410 to the park and entered at the White River Entrance en route to the Sunrise Visitor Center at 6,400 feet elevation. Since it was still early in the season for visiting the park, the road was only open to the White River Campground at an elevation of 4,400 ft. We backtracked and continued on Route 410 where we transitioned to Route 123 and entered the park at the Stevens Canyon Entrance. We continued on the Stevens Canyon Road to Henry M. Jackson Memorial Visitor Center at an elevation of 5,400 feet. We continued on along the Nisqually River until we exited the park at the Nisqually Entrance where the road continued westward as Route 706. We stopped in Elbe, WA, at the Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad Depot where we ate dinner before returning to Federal Way. It was another beautiful sunny day and we saw some spectacular views of Mt. Rainier, which, at an elevation of 14,410 feet, dominates the surrounding landscapes. On Saturday, 4 June, we went to the 10th Annual Pacific Northwest Evergreen Eggfest. It is an event sponsored by the manufacturers and distributors of the Big Green Egg barbeques. People make advance reservations to attend and are able to sample different barbeque recipes cooked on many Big Green Egg demonstration barbeques. Beverages are provided as part of the admission and people also sign up in advance to purchase the demonstration Big Green Eggs. There were literally more than 100 different barbeque foods being offered for people to sample. In addition, there was a live band as well as recorded music. Everyone in attendance appeared to have a good time and nobody left hungry. On Sunday, David and Doreen drove us all to Olympia, WA, where we took a guided tour of the Washington State Capital. It was completed in 1928 and has one of the tallest masonry domes in the world, rising 287 feet high. It also has one of the world’s largest collections of chandeliers and decorative lighting fixtures made by the famous Tiffany Studios of New York. We walked past the Executive Mansion, which is the official home of the Governor, en route to the Olympia Visitor Information Center where we obtained a walking map of Olympia. We decided to continue walking in Olympia and visited the Old Capital Building that was built in 1862 and now houses some Government offices. It is across the street from Sylvester Park, which was the location where the Oregon Trail ended. Our next stop was at Percival Landing, where we toured the classic tugboat SAND MAN. It was commissioned in 1908 and built by the Crawford & Reid shipyard in Old Town Tacoma. We continued walking northbound on the Boardwalk along the Deschutes Waterway toward the Port of Olympia. We observed some interesting sculptures as we walked along the boardwalk. About halfway to the port, we stopped for lunch at a restaurant overlooking the waterway. We flew home to Los Angeles on Monday, 6 June, and are looking forward to returning to the Pacific Northwest on future trips.

CHOOSING MOISTURIZER

ACCORDING TO YOUR SKIN TYPE

C

hoosing the right moisturizer should be easy. You go to your local drugstore read what the labels say and choose the one that claims to do what your skin needs the most. Anyway, in real life choosing the right moisturizer isn’t that simple. First of all, there are numberless brands to choose from. Second, every moisturizer isn’t working in the same way for everybody. In addition, your skin

NORMAL SKIN

changes with time, and depending on the season. Altogether the visit to your local drugstore might easily turn into a frustration. Since this is a topic that every woman can relate, I wanted to further explain couple things and narrow down your choices for moisturizer according to your skin type.

People with oily skin usually have larger pores. Large pores need cleaning on a regular basis because they tend to appear even larger if you don’t take proper care. Another problem with large pores is that they produce more oil (sebum). If you are oily you need a moisturizer that is going to control the production of sebum. Lotions are the best type of moisturizer if you have oily skin. There are few words that you want to see on the label: oilfree, noncomedogenic (won’t clog your pores) and lightweight formula. These types of lotions have the ability to balance the production of sebum and provide the needed hydration for your skin.

DRY SKIN It’s a true blessing to have this type of skin! You are not too oily, nor too dry. This is the dream isn’t in? Most of the moisturizers labeled for normal skin will work just fine for you. The only thing you need to keep in mind is to look for water-based creams. They provide the right amount of hydration and they are not too heavy for your skin.

OILY SKIN

46 EMAL MaGazine

Dry skin tends to get itchy, red and flaky. If you have very dry skin you probably will need a proper facial cleanser to gently exfoliate and remove the layers of dead skin cells. The number one thing that a dry skin requires is an intensive hydration. That is why you need to reach for moisturizers rich in essential oils. These type of moisturizers have a thicker formula that soothes your skin and locks in the moisture. Additionally, you might want to take ointments into consideration. These are thick moisturizers suitable for ultra-dry skin. Winter months are the worst for dry skin and

www.emalmag.com

that is when you might want to reach for ointments instead of regular creams.

COMBINATION SKIN

This is the worst type of all! Part of your skin is oily (usually the T-zone) and the rest of your skin is normal. The worst case scenario is that the rest of your skin is dry. I have combination to normal skin and one moisturizer simply isn’t working for all year long. During the winter months, combination skin needs more hydration. You need to use creams during the winter and lotions during the summer. Creams are a bit heavier than lotions and they provide the dry parts of your skin with the proper hydration. In the summer combination skin gets oilier and creams might cause breakouts. Light weight lotions are your best bet for this time of the year because the rest of your face normalizes and you will most likely just need to control the oil production. The struggle with combination skin is that sometimes you need tons of other products to balance between the oily and the normal/dry part of your face. Finding a proper skin care routine for combination skin might result in buying numberless products that don’t work until you find the ones that do. I am sorry to disappoint you, but combination skin is so versatile and sometimes this is the only way to find out what really works for you.

SENSITIVE SKIN

48 EMAL MaGazine

Sensitive skin is acne prone or prone to other skin irritations. Be mindful about your choices of moisturizers and consult a doctor if you feel that your skin condition is out of control. Skin with active acne might need moisturizers that are prescribed by a professional. If you have sensitive skin, look for moisturizers that are labeled as hypoallergenic. Don’t experiment much with your skin care routine and always read the labels prior to buying certain moisturizer. Make sure that the products you use are oil-free and paraben-free. Always look for creams with gentle but effective and with natural based formulas.

HOW TO APPLY MOISTURIZER PROPERLY Always clean your skin prior to applying moisturizer. Moisturizers are for everyday use and If you feel that you need extra hydration during the night, reach for a heavier night cream. Regardless the moisturizer you use, the best way to apply it is on damp skin. Think about your skin as sponge that is dried out. If you try to put moisturizer on it, the moisturizer won’t go anywhere. Your skin works in the same way. If your skin is damp, the moisturizer can reach deeper in your skin cells. Facial mists and toners are a great option to damp your skin. The best way to use them is to spray the product on a cotton pad and wipe the cotton pad around your face. Toners are designed to clean any cleanser residue or chemicals from tap water. After you cleaned your skin and applied toner, your skin is ready for the moisturizer. I totally understand that choosing the right moisturizer might easily turn into a nightmare. But that is not an excuse to keep using products that don’t work for your skin just because you bought them. Determine what your skin needs the most in the moment and keep these simple bits of advice in mind. Additionally, change your skin care routine if your skin signals that what seemed to work in the past isn’t working anymore. Always listen to your skin and choose your products wisely. Good Luck!

THE HOTTEST SHOE TRENDS FOR 2017 Step into the new season with the latest footwear news

ALL WRAPPED UP These shoes put the emphasis—and the accoutrement—on the ankle. From ruffles at Saint Laurent to buckles at Attico, wrap it up.

KITSCHY DETAILS Nothing says summer like daisies, rainbows, and pineapple details, am I right? Take Manolo Blahnik, for example, who went southwest with a Cactus-inspired stiletto. Or Christian Louboutin who doubled down on cherries. And not to be outdone Charlotte Olympia took it one step further with a Carmen Miranda heel, putting the chic in "Chica Chica Boom Chic." Designers are getting very summer on us and we're here for it.

HELLO, KITTY The kitten heel has never been cooler, with sleek versions of the ladylike staple from Phoebe Philo at Celine, a logo-ed version at Dior and a party shoe from Miu Miu.

PRINCESS SATIN Satin is making a comeback this season—we've seen it on blouses, dainty bags, and now, footwear. The great thing about this luxurious style is that it's surprisingly versatile. Platforms in Marie-Antoinettepink work for a summer wedding, while dainty mules bedazzled with crystals are a chic counter to ripped jeans. Stock up on a few pairs to rotate over the next few months.

VARSITY TEAM The athletic inspired boot is one of Spring's most unexpected footwear options, from boxer boots at Dior and Versace and built in socks at DKNY they're this season's answer to the sneaker trend.

NEXT-LEVEL BLOCK HEELS The block heel trend is still going strong, something we're sure you feet will thank you for. But instead of sticking to basic suede versions, go with more interesting styles (metallics, brights, and plaids) that can take you from day to night.

GOOD (FLAT) FORM And just like that, flatforms are back. Consider it all the height, none of the pitch, with wooden takes, sporty iterations and Teva inspiration.

LOGO POOL SLIDES Those shoes that were so popular in middle school? Yeah, they're back with a high-end designer spin. Gucci, Chanel, and Vuitton have offered up their take on the trend, but if those aren't your style, classic brands like Fila and Adidas are holding it down on the affordable front.

LOW-KEY STATEMENTS Ready to make a statement, but only down for a tame one? Try a minimalist shoe that just happens to have a major detail. At first glance they are deceptively simple, but these pairs have a little extra oomph that will set you apart from the crowd.

FANCY FLATS Thanks to the rise of formal mules and fancy flats, you'll never have to struggle through a beach wedding or outdoor party in stilettos again.

The Dark Tower Actor Idris Elba: My Father Wasn’t Happy With Me Becoming An Actor

Idris Elba has said his dad did not want him to be an actor. The 44-year-old star says his first love was music and his father felt his original dream to be a DJ would be a more steady source of income than having to audition for parts, reported Contactmusic. “I was inspired by Robert De Niro after skipping school one afternoon when I was 16 to go and see Once Upon a Time in America. My acting teacher in school told me that one day I’d be a great actor. My father wasn’t that happy. He was worried that I’d starve and he told me to keep working as a DJ so I could earn a living. But my mother supported me,” Elba said. Idris Elba has been involved in the acting business since 1995 but he got his first starring role only in 2002. His claim to fame was HBO’s crime drama The Wire in 2002 in which he played the role of a drug lord Stringer Bell in the American city of Baltimore. Although he had a typical British accent, he was praised by critics for his street American accent and also for his performance which made him a star in the United States.
