MELANIA TRUMP TO TEND THE WHITE HOUSE GARDEN FRIDAY Melania Trump will, weather permitting, have her first event at the White House Kitchen Garden on Friday, eight months into her role as first lady. In October of last year, Michelle Obama quite literally cemented the garden's position as a fixture of her own tenure, holding a ceremony to unveil a more permanent structure around the garden. A dedication etched in stone reads: "White House Kitchen Garden, established in 2009 by First Lady Michelle Obama with the hope of growing a healthier nation for our children." A new seating area and wooden structure were also added then. In remarks at the unveiling, Obama sent a hopeful message to whomever followed in her place. "I take great pride in knowing that this little garden will live on as a symbol of the hopes and dreams we all hold of growing a healthier nation for our children. I am hopeful that future first families will cherish this garden like we have," Obama had said. It appears Melania Trump will be doing just that. The first lady will
host "a local children's group" at a garden event Friday at noon, East Wing communications director Stephanie Grisham told CNN. Trump and members of the National Park Service -- which oversees the grounds of the White House -- will plant and harvest vegetables alongside the youngsters. A lush and productive plot of land deep on the South Lawn grounds, the garden was the pet project of the former first lady, who planted it in 2009, just prior to announcing her platform of helping to prevent childhood obesity and promote healthy eating. During Obama's time at the White House, vegetables, fruits and herbs from
the garden were often used in food preparation for events there, including official State Dinners; much of the bounty was also distributed to local food banks. In February, one of Trump's senior advisers, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, confirmed to CNN that the first lady had no intention of ignoring the garden, and would keep it up, as her predecessor had done. "As a mother and as the first lady of this country, Mrs. Trump is committed to the preservation and continuation of the White House Gardens, specifically the First Lady's Kitchen Garden and the Rose Garden," said Wolkoff at the time.

"Together, we must acknowledge that all too often it is the weakest, most innocent and vulnerable among us -- our children -- who ultimately suffer the most from the challenges that plague our societies," the first lady said. "Whether it is drug addiction, b u l l y i n g , p o v e r t y, d i s e a s e , trafficking, illiteracy, or hunger, it is the children who are hit first and

Shaikh Mohammad toured the arena where he was briefed on the latest projects showcased by real estate companies and property developers at the exhibition. He was accompanied by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates airline and Group, and other senior officials. Shaikh Mohammad expressed his delight over the growing turnout by both exhibitors and visitors to the exhibition. “The UAE economy will remain strong and resilient thanks to the absolute trust placed by international visitors in its markets,” he said.
He expressed his satisfaction with opening the door to investors and developers who want to sell and purchase properties during the threeday event. “This move will encourage investors and property developers to participate and showcase their projects, thereby contributing to stimulating the real estate sector and help it thrive locally, regionally and globally,” Shaikh Mohammad said. He then visited Falcon City’s stand before heading to the stands of Nakheel Properties, Meraas Holding, and Dubai World Central, which is currently involved in implementing a mammoth
project on the Expo 2020 Site, including the expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport. Shaikh Mohammad also visited the stand of Expo 2020 Dubai where he was briefed on the Premium lifestyle development, which is set for completion before Expo 2020. He also visited the stalls of Deyaar, Dubai Lands Department, and Abu Dhabi based Emkan Company, among others. Shaikh Mohammad visited Bahrain’s pavilion where he was briefed on major development projects implemented in the Kingdom and investment opportunities available.
ERNA SOLBERG REELECTED AS NORWEGIAN PRIME MINISTER Norway's Prime Minister Erna Solberg has won a mandate for a further four years in government after a tense election night victory over Labour leader Jonas Gahr Støre. Erna Solberg has held her majority, Labour and Jonas Gahr Støre have underperformed, the Progress Party has stabilised and the agrarian Centre Party are the night's biggest success story. THE SEGWAY MINILITE TARGETED AT CHILDREN OVER SIX YEARS IS ONE OF THE NEW PRODUCTS ANNOUNCED AT A LAUNCH EVENT IN SEOUL
A
t an event in Seoul, Korea, Segway has launched four new products destined for Asia Pacific markets. While not taking things as far as the One S1, two of the new models continue the self-balancing scooter downsizing trend that Segway embraced with the miniPRO, and include the lightest Segway yet. They appear alongside a Ninebot-branded kids' bike and kickscooter. The new Segway miniPLUS and miniLITE models share a similar handsfree form factor to the aforementioned miniPRO that launched in mid-2016. The miniPLUS is the bulkier of the new additions and includes intelligent following, one key call, scalable pan-tiltzoom (PTZ) cameras and LED lights. It

also boasts a larger mat area to plant your feet and a larger capacity battery for greater range. The miniPLUS' little brother is the miniLITE, which at 11.5 kg (25 lb) is the lightest Segway ever (if you ignore the unicycle One S1) and has been designed specifically for children over six years of age. In keeping with the kiddie target market, the unit's rider detection has been lowered to 10 kg (22 lb) and the device can be customized with bumpy colored attachments. Segway's acquisition by Beijing-based robotics company Ninebot in May last year means the event also saw the launch of two products without the self-balancing technology the Segway name is associated with. The Ninebot
Kids Bike looks like your conventional kids' bike and comes in boys and girls frames that can accommodate 14- and 16-in wheels, while the Ninebot by Segway KickScooter looks similar to the ES1 and ES2 models recently announced for Europe. There is currently no further information on tech specs or release dates, but the four vehicles announced at the Asia Pacific product launch will be sold in Asia Pacific countries including Korea, Japan, Singapore, Australia, Thailand, Taiwan and China. It's unclear whether other markets will follow, but Segway has a press conference scheduled this week at IFA, so we'll find out more then.

W
e're a step closer to a future where snacks can be aird ro p p e d to u s w i t h i n minutes of ordering. While Amazon and other companies are busy navigating through the red tape required to get drones buzzing through the urban skies with their pizza payloads, the Icelandic city of Reykjavik has become the first in the world to be served by commercial delivery flights. The civil aviation authority in Iceland has granted permission for the flights to drone company Flytrex and the country's biggest online retailer, AHA. According to the companies, Reykjavik's sparse urban sprawl, numerous waterways and winding roads make delivering goods via trucks a fairly inefficient method, but drones can make the trip much faster as the crow flies. The runners of the operation will be Flytrex's Mule, an autonomous drone

that can carry 6.5 lb (2.9 kg) across a distance of 6 miles (10 km). While it's not a full door-to-door delivery system just yet, the Mule will fly between two parts of the city separated by a river, cutting ca trip that usually takes 25 minutes by road down to four minutes by air. Along with saving time, the company says the system will cut delivery costs by 60 percent.

Eventually, the companies hope to expand the service throughout the city and country, including dropping off goods right to consumers' homes.

hinese sustainable technology giant BYD added another major business to its portfolio on September 1 with the opening of SkyRail, the first implementation of the company's proprietary monorail transit solution. BYD is marketing SkyRail as a strategic solution to urban traffic congestion problems. It is a rail transit alternative with benefits including low capital cost, short construction period and low noise levels making it a short-term, cost-effective solution to traffic congestion. BYD claims SkyRail can be implemented at one-fifth the cost of a monorail system in one-third of the construction time. The first SkyRail implementation is in Yinchuan, China's most important "smart city," and the blueprint for the country's intelligent urban development initiative spanning more than 200 smart cities. population now lives in cities, up from 26 percent in 1990. Currently, 40,000 people a day move into Chinese cities. SkyRail is China's first straddle-type monorail system, and has been developed over the last five years at a cost of 5 billion yuan ($760 million). Though SkyRail can run at speeds of 80 km/h (50 mph), it is so quiet in operation that it can be routed through buildings. The initial SkyRail system in Yinchuan covers a 5.7 km (3.5 mi) route encompassing eight stations, though Yinchuan plans to extend the monorail network to more than 300 km (190 mi) over the next few years. Construction of the Yinchuan SkyRail began in April and was completed in just four months at a cost of about 600 million yuan ($92 million). Since the announcement of the SkyRail system last October (2016), BYD has
conducted feasibility studies in more than than 100 cities, including the city of Iloilo in the Philippines, and has entered into strategic partnerships with 20 cities in China, including Yinchuan, Guilin, Shantou, Guang'an and Bengbu. Construction of SkyRail lines is expected to begin in 20 Chinese cities in 2018, with the 20 km (12.5 mi) Iloilo, Philippines SkyRail system due to go into service in 2019.

LARRY FOGG TRIP TO PACIFIC NORTHWEST
J
an and I wanted to visit friends on Orcas Island, Washington, in the San Juan Islands and in the vicinity of Seattle, Washington. In addition, we wanted to visit Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia (BC), Canada. We booked a repositioning cruise from San Diego to Vancouver aboard the Holland America ship, MAASDAM. The cruise itinerary included a stop at Victoria, BC. This would be a repeat of the same repositioning cruise that we took in May 2015. We took the Amtrak train from Los Angeles to San Diego and boarded the MAASDAM on Wednesday, 18 May, and settled into our cabin. The ship departed San Diego that evening and began the journey to Vancouver. After open-ocean sailing for the next three days, we arrived at Victoria, BC, during late afternoon on Saturday, 21 May. The ship arrived at Victoria several hours late due to some time lost when we encountered rough seas west of San Francisco. Since the weather at Victoria was overcast with misting rain showers when we arrived, we opted to take a short walk along the Unity Wall and Breakwater adjacent to the cruise ship port. We set sail at midnight for the short voyage from Victoria to Vancouver and disembarked at Canada Place pier on Sunday, 22 May at about 9:30 AM. After checking into our hotel, we took a taxi to visit the University of British Columbia (UBC) Botanical Garden and the UBC Museum of Anthropology. The UBC Botanical Garden is situated in one of Vancouver’s Coastal Rainforests. In addition to viewing the beautiful flower gardens, we also took the Greenheart Canopy Walkway within a portion of the forest. The canopy walkway is a series of suspended walkways and tree platforms high above the forest floor. We took a UBC campus bus from the main botanical garden area to the Nitobe Memorial Garden, which is also part of the UBC Botanical Garden. It is a Traditional Japanese Tea and Stroll Garden that is ranked in the top five Japanese Gardens in North America. It was small and very beautiful, with another party taking wedding photos. We walked from the Nitobe Memorial Garden to the UBC Museum of Anthropology. This museum was magnificent and should not be missed when visiting Vancouver. In addition, this museum had a special exhibition of the Contemporary Art of the Sepik River, Papua New Guinea. We visited the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park located in North Vancouver on Monday, 23 May. I had purchased tickets in advance on the Internet, and we were able to catch a special Capilano Bus near our hotel that took us directly to the park. The park is named after a suspension footbridge

450 feet long and 230 feet high across the Capilano River Canyon. The park has been attracting tourists since 1889. In addition to the suspension bridge, the park has a rainforest with paths and boardwalks, a Cliffwalk, and a Treetops Adventure. The Cliffwalk is a structure attached to the face of the cliff on one side of the canyon for visitors to walk along the face of the cliff, examine the geology of the cliff, and enjoy exhilarating views of the canyon below. Raptors Ridge is a path and boardwalk through the rainforest. The Treetops Adventure is a system of tree-friendly platforms and suspension bridges that allow pedestrians to walk the treetop canopy. After we returned to our hotel, we decided to use the Downtown Vancouver Official Walking Map to walk to the Chinatown district and visit the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Garden. The map was a godsend and easy to follow, but the museum was closed when we arrived. We continued walking to the Gastown district on our way back to the hotel. The following day, we continued walking in Vancouver. During our walk we visited the Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art, a private museum displaying many of the works of Bill Reid. It was a

very impressive museum and we were glad we stopped to have a look inside. We also visited the Christ Church Cathedral, Harbour Green Park, the Digital Orca sculpture, the Vancouver Convention Centre, the Steam Clock, the Gassy Jack Statue, the Chinatown Milenniun Gate, and finally the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Garden. The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Garden is the first of its kind built outside of China. Fifty-three master craftsmen came from China with 950 crates of material and constructed the Garden using traditional methods – no glue, screws, or power tools were used. It is modeled after the highest standards of private classical gardens in the city of Suzhou during the Ming Dynasty (13681644). Construction began in March 1985 and cost 5.3 million dollars. It was officially opened in 1986. Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Park is a public park adjacent to the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Garden. On Wednesday, 25 May, we took the BC Ferries Connector service from Vancouver to Victoria, which is located on Vancouver Island. I had advance purchased tickets and we were picked up at our hotel by a shuttle bus that transferred us to a large bus that drove us to the ferry. The bus boarded the ferry and then delivered us to downtown Victoria. It was the perfect way to travel from
Vancouver to Victoria and exceeded all of our expectations. Upon arrival at Victoria, we walked to our hotel and waited to meet up with Tom and Leslie, our friends from Orcas Island. They had taken the ferry from Orcas Island to Victoria to meet up with us. That evening, we ate dinner at the Fish Hook Restaurant where Leslie had made reservations weeks in advance. Leslie said that it was rated the best restaurant in Victoria. It was casual, very small, the food was superb, and it certainly lived up to its reputation. After dinner, we all walked around old town Victoria and along the Inner Harbour. The Legislature Building was illuminated with lights very similar to the way the Palace at Mysore, India, is illuminated after dark – very beautiful indeed! The following morning, Tom and Leslie drove us to the worldfamous Butchart Gardens. It was a beautiful sunny day with perfect weather to stroll leisurely through the magnificent gardens. There were so many beautiful landscapes that included the Sunken Garden, Rose Garden, Japanese Garden, Star Pond, Italian Garden, Piazza, and Mediterranean Garden. Butchart Gardens covers more than 55 acres of a 130 acre estate and has attracted visitors since

the 1920s. We were in awe and amazement throughout our visit. We also visited the Victoria Butterfly Gardens, which is located near the Butchart Gardens. It was also an amazing place to visit with at least twenty-five different species of butterflies, many rainforest plants, parrots, flamingos, turtles, and a large Iguana lizard. The butterflies would land on the visitors and people needed to check to make sure that they weren’t wearing any butterflies when they exited the enclosure. We returned to downtown Victoria and ate a late afternoon lunch at a classic pub before continuing to walk around the old town area and inner harbor that afternoon. During our walks, we stopped to admire the collection of totem poles on the grounds of the Royal BC Museum. On Friday, 27 May, we drove to the ferry terminal at Sydney, BC, where we cleared US Customs and boarded the ferry to San Juan Island. After disembarking the ferry, we drove to the San Juan Island Sculpture Park where we strolled among acres of interesting sculptures, all of which were for sale. We returned to the ferry queue and ate lunch at a quaint local pub while waiting for the time to board the ferry to Orcas Island. It was a short ferry ride to Orcas Island and we drove home with Tom and Leslie where we visited until Tuesday, 31 May. I continued daily hikes during our stay on Orcas Island and Leslie prepared some wonderful meals that we thoroughly enjoyed. On Tuesday, 31 May, Tom and Leslie drove us to the Orcas Island Ferry Terminal. En route to the terminal, we stopped at the two barns painted by the high school senior class with each painting over the work of the prior years’ class. The old barn was last painted by the Class of 2014, and the new barn was painted by the Class of 2016. The old barn continues to be on the verge of collapse. We boarded the ferry to Anacortes, Washington, and then caught the BelAir Airporter Shuttle bus to the SEA/TAC International Airport. Our friends, John and Diane, from Federal Way, Washington, met us at the airport. We spent the next five days visiting with them and their son, David, and his wife, Doreen, who live in Tacoma, Washington. On Wednesday, 1 June, John and Diane drove us to the Flying Heritage Collection at Paine Field near Everett, WA. This is the collection established by Paul Allen in the 1990s and houses a unique assemblage of rare aircraft and vehicles from the World War II era. Not only does each artifact appear exactly as it did in combat, most are fully functional. These vintage planes also take to the skies on scheduled Fly Days. On Thursday, we visited the Soos Creek Botanical Garden in Auburn, WA. It occupies 22 acres of beautifully designed gardens and woodland. We strolled through the gardens and woodland admiring the landscaping and blooming flowers that were in season.

There is no charge to visit the garden and different plants bloom at different months during the year. John and Diane plan to return during different times of the year. David and Doreen drove all of us to Mt. Rainier National Park on Friday, 3 June. We drove southbound on Route 410 to the park and entered at the White River Entrance en route to the Sunrise Visitor Center at 6,400 feet elevation. Since it was still early in the season for visiting the park, the road was only open to the White River Campground at an elevation of 4,400 ft. We backtracked and continued on Route 410 where we transitioned to Route 123 and entered the park at the Stevens Canyon Entrance. We continued on the Stevens Canyon Road to Henry M. Jackson Memorial Visitor Center at an elevation of 5,400 feet. We continued on along the Nisqually River until we exited the park at the Nisqually Entrance where the road continued westward as Route 706. We stopped in Elbe, WA, at the Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad Depot where we ate dinner before returning to Federal Way. It was another beautiful sunny day and we saw some spectacular views of Mt. Rainier, which, at an elevation of 14,410 feet, dominates the surrounding landscapes. On Saturday, 4 June, we went to the 10th Annual Pacific Northwest Evergreen Eggfest. It is an event sponsored by the manufacturers and distributors of the Big Green Egg barbeques. People make advance reservations to attend and are able to sample different barbeque recipes cooked on many Big Green Egg demonstration barbeques. Beverages are provided as part of the admission and people also sign up in advance to purchase the demonstration Big Green Eggs. There were literally more than 100 different barbeque foods being offered for people to sample. In addition, there was a live band as well as recorded music. Everyone in attendance appeared to have a good time and nobody left hungry. On Sunday, David and Doreen drove us all to Olympia, WA, where we took a guided tour of the Washington State Capital. It was completed in 1928 and has one of the tallest masonry domes in the world, rising 287 feet high. It also has one of the world’s largest collections of chandeliers and decorative lighting fixtures made by the famous Tiffany Studios of New York. We walked past the Executive Mansion, which is the official home of the Governor, en route to the Olympia Visitor Information Center where we obtained a walking map of Olympia. We decided to continue walking in Olympia and visited the Old Capital Building that was built in 1862 and now houses some Government offices. It is across the street from Sylvester Park, which was the location where the Oregon Trail ended. Our next stop was at Percival Landing, where we toured the classic tugboat SAND MAN. It was commissioned in 1908 and built by the Crawford & Reid shipyard in Old Town Tacoma. We continued walking northbound on the Boardwalk along the Deschutes Waterway toward the Port of Olympia. We observed some interesting sculptures as we walked along the boardwalk. About halfway to the port, we stopped for lunch at a restaurant overlooking the waterway. We flew home to Los Angeles on Monday, 6 June, and are looking forward to returning to the Pacific Northwest on future trips.

METHOD: In bowl, add ginger garlic paste, red chili powder, salt, whole spice powder, cumin, coriander seeds, green chili, lemon juice, red chili crushed, black pepper crushed, yogurt, oil and mix well. Add mutton front chops, mix well and marinate for 2 hours. In pot, add marinated chops and mix well, cover and cook until tender (35-40 minutes approx.) or cook until oil separates. Garnish with fried onion and serve.
GARLIC MARINATED STEAKS INGREDIENTS: Balsamic vinegar Soy sauce Minced garlic Honey Olive oil Ground black pepper Worcestershire sauce Onion powder Salt Liquid smoke flavoring Cayenne pepper Rib-eye steaks
1/2 cup 1/4 cup 3 tbs 2 tbs 2 tbs 2 tsp 1 tsp 1 tsp 1/2 tsp 1/2 tsp 1 pinch 2 (1/2 pound)
METHOD: In a medium bowl, mix the vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, honey, olive oil, ground black pepper, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, salt, liquid smoke, and cayenne pepper. Place steaks in a shallow glass dish with the marinade, and turn to coat. For optimum flavor, rub the liquid into the meat. Cover, and marinate in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 days. Preheat grill for medium-high to high heat. Lightly oil the grill grate. Grill steaks 7 minutes per side, or to desired doneness. Discard leftover marinade.

METHOD: Chopperize biscuits & add butter, mix well and press down form in a dish with hand/spoon or spatula in a dish and keep it in freezer for 10-15 mins. Set Aside. Whisk together Sugar, cocoa, Corn Flour, and salt in a pan. Gradually add cold milk a bit and turn on the heat. Now add remaining milk and keep whisking to combine and to avoid lumps. Whisk for 5-6 minutes more till thickens. Once thickens, remove from heat and add butter and Vanilla essence in it. Pour the mixture on pie/base and leave for 3-4 minutes. Sprinkle/garnish with chocolate shavings. Chill for 1-2 hours and enjoy.
FRENCH TOAST BALLS INGREDIENTS: Dry active yeast Lukewarm water Sugar All-purpose flour Salt Egg yolk Eggs Canola oil Cinnamon sugar Maple syrup

METHOD : Mix warm water, yeast and a teaspoon of sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes. Place remaining sugar, flour and salt in a stand mixer fitted with dough hook attachment. Slowly pour in eggs, yolk and oil and mix until you get a shaggy dough. Pour in the yeast mixture. Knead dough for 8 minutes and transfer to a well-oiled glass bowl. Cover with a damp tea towel and let rise for 1 to 2 hours until doubled in size. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface into a 1/4 inch thick round. Cut into circles using a 2-inch biscuit cutter. In a large Dutch oven filled with 4 inches of canola oil, fry the dough at 350 degrees or until golden on each side. Place on paper towel to drain for one minute. Roll in cinnamon sugar and drizzle with maple syrup while still warm.

The Academy Award-winning actor – who founded The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation in 1998 – has announced that the huge sum is to be spread across more than 100 organisations that are committed to environmental sustainability, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Speaking at a climate change conference at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, DiCaprio said, “We are proud to support the work of over 100 organisations at home and abroad.”These grantees are active on the ground, protecting our oceans, forests and endangered species for future generations and tackling the urgent, existential challenges of climate change.” The long-time environmentalist observed that investments in these organisations can help to build towards a “brighter future for all of us.” “There exists today many proven technologies in renewable energy, clean transportation, and sustainable agriculture, that we can begin to build a brighter future for all of us. “Our challenge is to find new ways to power our lives, employ millions of people and turn every individual into an advocate for clean air and drinkable water. We must demand that politicians accept climate science and make bold commitments before it is too late. DiCaprio, 42, also spoke out on the issue of climate change after he collected his Best Actor Oscar for his performance in “The Revenant”.On the work front, he is currently working on ‘Robin Hood’ as a producer. Actor Ali Fazal is happy that his Hollywood film ‘Victoria & Abdul’, in which he stars with Judi Dench, has had a good start at the UK box office. Many cinema managers had been counting the days until the release of ‘Victoria & Abdul‘, according to British daily The Guardian, which claims the film has begun with a decent 1.85 million pounds ($2.5 million) from 605 cinemas, grabbing the second spot on the box office list after ‘It’. Kirsten Dunst accidentally smoked a joint while filming Woodshock In her appearance on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live', Hollywood actor Kirsten Dunst said that she was almost empty stomach that day and went back to her room to rest. That was when she started to feel dizzy. She even felt the need to go to the hospital. Actor Kirsten Dunst said she once ended up smoking an entire joint when she was shooting on the sets of ‘Woodshock’. The 35-year-old actor, whose character Theresa smokes a lot of pot in the movie, said she had been doing several takes of a scene where she takes a whiff of the fake herbs which were provided on the set for the situation, reported E! News. In her appearance on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’, Dunst said that she was almost empty stomach that day and went back to her room to rest. That was when she started to feel dizzy. “I was losing my mind. I’m shaking. I’m hot. I’m just flipping out,” the actor said when she called the director to say that she needed to go to the hospital. It was after this episode that one of the producers came to check on Dunst and investigated her pot props, only to find that she had been smoking real pot. “Oh, you smoked a full blunt on one of the takes,” the actor recalled his words. Dunst then said, “And we’re talking about Humboldt weed, ok. I don’t smoke full joints.
