Sarah Schneider: Ausência de Presença Humana

While there’s nothing especially unusual or out of place in the still, unpeopled scenes of Sarah Schneider’s paintings, there’s undoubtedly something intriguing, disquieting even. Rendered in eerie stillness, it feels almost like the calm before the storm, each little soap dispenser, tissue or chair sitting idle, waiting for something to happen to it.

Mijn naam is Milou Trouwborst. In de zomer van 2016 ben ik afgestudeerd aan de Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Utrecht, in de richting illustratie.

Fernando Cobelo aka The Ordinary Young Man è un ragazzo che fa disegnini. Di quelli con la penna nera sul foglio bianco. Puliti, definiti, essenziali. Infantili anche, che parlano di sentimenti facili a provarsi ma difficili a spiegarsi. Quando le parole da definizione Zanichelli non esistono non rimane che provare con le metafore, come ci insegnano i poeti, o con i disegnini, come ci insegnano i bambini. Oppure, come Fernando Cobelo ci insegna, si può provare a farlo con disegnini metaforici. E allora ecco le farfalle nello stomaco, la testa tra le nuvole e il cuore, che come tutti sappiamo, è un gran macigno da portare.

I’ve been making a series of drawing, called “Moonassi” since 2008. Moonassi is my artist name, which means similar to the Buddhist term “Anatta”. From the beginning, I wanted to draw something I really know and something I really can speak about. It was my inner feelings and my intimate relations that give me various emotions. Daehyun Kim was born in 1980 in Seoul. He studied Oriental Painting at Hongik University in Seoul. After graduating from university, he started to draw his characteristic drawings, called “Moonassi series”. Daehyun also worked as a graphic designer, marketing manager, and art director at various companies for several years. Since he worked with New York Times as an illustrator, he some times collaborate with other artists and brands. Now he is working and living in Paju. Gyeonggi-do.

Her has been out for a few weeks now and has received lots of praise from critics. It collected five Academy Award nominations last week, including one for Best Picture, and it's a film that people are still talking about. What's most remarkable about the film is just how personal it feels and, as soon as I saw the movie, I couldn't help but think of it as a "response film" to Sofia Coppola's 2003 film Lost in Translation. I did not explore this thought at first because I did not want to take anything away from the movie itself. However, after watching Lost in Translation again and seeing other articles pop up that talk about their similarities, I felt I could no longer ignore this idea. This is not just about how similar one movie is to the other, although I do go over that in this article. These movies feel intrinsically connected. They explore a lot of the same ideas. This all makes sense since Spike Jonze and Sofia Coppola were married from 1999 to 2003 and had been together for many years before that. When you're with someone for that long, they will naturally have a huge

impact on your life, and it's incredibly difficult to forget about them. I think that's where Her comes from. Sofia Coppola had already made her big personal statement in regards to love and marriage right when the couple was on the verge of divorce; Her would be Spike Jonze's answer to those feelings. What makes it even more poignant is that Her never feels resentful or petty. It feels more like a legitimate apology. It's an acknowledgement that, in the end, some people aren't meant to be with each other in the long run. Some people do grow apart.
