Signatures, in collaboration with Dance4, is a platform that nurtures and supports undiscovered talent, by working with emerging dancers and choreographers and enabling them to realise their creative potential. The artists taking part in this showcase of new work have all been selected on the innovative strength of their concepts and their desire to succeed in the arts industry.

An intrepid performance by choreographer Giulio D’Anna and his father Stefano D’Anna. The father and son explore the differences between their generations, looking to the future and reminiscing about the past. But they also explore the elements that tie them together; the bonds of blood, their shared memories and histories, and their relationship, all of which are woven into a narrative of dance.

The Coull Quartet: A Russian Spring Friday 9 May at 7.30pm £15 / £12 / £5er Haydn Quartet in B minor Op 33 no 1; Shostakovich Quartet No 5 in B flat Op 92; Beethoven Quartet in C Op 59 No 3 ‘Rasumovsky’

The supreme master of the string quartet sometimes scorned his audiences for being moved to tears by his music, but the intensity of emotion found in his quartets has rarely been surpassed. His ‘Serioso’ quartet Op 95, is a highly personal work which was not intended for public performance, whilst the youthful D major quartet is full of optimism. The late C sharp minor quartet, Op 131 is one of his most profound utterances. www.coullquartet.com

Beethoven’s expansive Op 59 quartets bear the name of the enlightened Russian count who commissioned them in 1805, whilst Haydn’s ‘new and special’ Op 33 quartets were dedicated to the Grand Duke Paul of Russia. Life for a Soviet artist in the 1950’s, however, was rather tougher, and it wasn’t until well after Stalin’s death that Shostakovich allowed his autobiographical, yet forward looking fifth quartet to be performed. www.coullquartet.com

Local Music University of Leicester Sinfonia Fraser Noble Hall at 7.30pm £8 / £6 Saturday 1 March Conductor: Michael Sackin Leader: Elizabeth Murphy VOŘÍŠEK Symphony in D; SCHUBERT Symphony No.9 in C Voříšek (1791-1825) and Schubert (17971828) were probably close friends in Vienna, and Voříšek’s influence on Schubert’s piano miniatures seems clearly apparent. Likewise there are remarkable similarities between the first movements of the concert’s two symphonies. This is Voříšek’s only symphony and is very fine throughout. 1 hour, 45 minutes Saturday 3 May Conductor: Michael Sackin Leader: Elizabeth Murphy with Sara Humber (mezzo soprano) Strauss: Serenade for 13 Winds in Eb, Op.7; Four songs with orchestra: Morgen; Die heilige drei Könige; Wiegenlied; Zueignung. César Franck: Symphony in D. Strauss had a captivating way of capturing total contentment in many of his songs, and this is abundant in all four songs in the programme. A hard won positive mood finally triumphs in Franck’s only symphony. 1 hour, 45 minutes Sunday 29 June Conductor: Michael Sackin Leader: Elizabeth Murphy with Abigail Johnson (piano) J C Bach: Symphony in B flat, Op.18 No.2; Mozart: Piano Concerto No.27 in B flat major, K.595; Beethoven: Symphony No.2 in D J C Bach was Mozart’s musical daddy, probably much more so than his own

father was. Mozart is represented by his very last and probably most sublime piano concerto of them all. Beethoven’s second symphony provides considerable contrast. It’s easy to underestimate his first two symphonies in the light of the towering Eroica Symphony that followed as his Third Symphony. 1 hour, 50 minutes

She has become an in-demand writer and performer whilst still studying on the jazz course at London’s Trinity College of Music. Her debut album has received testimonials and support from some of the finest musicians on the scene and she writes deft, imaginative melodies that seem to encompass a depth and range of feeling. www.laurajurd.com 2 hours 30 minutes  laura.jurd.5 Leicester Jazz House presents
