Formed at the Royal Northern College of Music in 2006, The Sterling Trio has since established itself as an innovative and engaging chamber ensemble. Their commitment to new music includes collaborations with several composers, including Howard Blake, whose work is part of the programme for this concert. As well as formal recitals at such venues as St Martin-in-the-Fields, the Trio enjoys performing at arts festivals and education and community work in schools and hospitals. Member Sarah Atter began playing the flute at Launde Primary School in Oadby, and was principal flute of the Leicestershire Schools’ Symphony Orchestra and in the LSSO quintet.

Although only in his early 20s, Richard has had a glittering career so far, gaining distinctions in his music studies and winning many competitions.
Kathryn has performed as a soloist on the concert stage as well as in a number of choirs, including the CBSO Chorus.
Most recently he received first prize and the award for best performance of a work written since 1950 at the prestigious Haverhill Sinfonia Soloist Competition.

An(other) Story: Folk and tribal arts in India Monday 18 July – Friday 30 September
Even though artists in India have been practising their folk and tribal art for centuries, the world at large has only come to know about it in the last 50 years. Now their work is exhibited at major contemporary art galleries around the world. This exhibition explores the diversity of folk and tribal art styles and techniques which have been embraced for centuries throughout India, including Madhubani / Mithila, Gond, Warli, Patua scrolls and folk embroidery. An(other) Story was originally curated by David Schischka Thomas and Saleem Arif Quadri MBE for an exhibition at the New Art Exchange, Nottingham in 2009.
