Zac Posen is an American Fashion designer known for his striking dresses seen as big celebrity events. As part of my research, I wanted to look at a fashion designer that worked with large ballroom style dresses to fit the aesthetic of a Disney Princess. My thoughts are that I could use Zac Posen as a fashion designer for Disney Princess dresses and create a fashion show of all the modern Disney Princess dresses (Nast, 2021). After looking at Zac Posen I looked at the prodcution of the fashion show as a potencial final piece (Skov et al., 2009).
Fantasy within Fashion: Other designers have used the Princess/ fantasy as part as their fashion shows such as, Paolo Sebastian “Once Upon A Dream” SS18 Collection, Thom Browne Spring Summer 2020, Thom Browne Fall Winter 2020/2021, DOLCE & GABBANA Milano Autumn Winter 2014. They all use an alternate way in which they present their clothing on the catwalk which could be used for the project (Sebastian, 2018) (Browne, 2020) (Browne, 2021) (D&G, 2014). Fantasy within fashion shows are popular way in which to present ballgown dresses and link very closely to the Disney style setting. This shows that Disney’s influence towards fantasy is very predominant especillay is high fashion. Within High Fashion and Pop Fashion: The Symbolic Production of Fashion in Le Monde and The Guardian book, Bourdieu discusses that garments on the catwalk has a material production but also a symbolic production, meaning that the garment has a deeper meaning. Although Disney Princess dresses are a positive beauty statement it may have more realistic ideologies which may link to the realities of the British Royal Family (Rocamora, 2015).
