What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

I believe Bauer publishing would be the ideal company to publish my magazine as they are a company that appeals to a wide range of target audience meaning it will draw all age groups and different groups in society into my magazine.My magazine is targeted between the age range of 15­20 which is fairly similar to the age range of Kerrang (which is produced by Bauer Publishing), they have an age range of 15­24 but the mean age that reads the magazine is around 25, which means if Bauer publishing take on my magazine it will be hitting a wider varirty of audiences as they have over 80 influential magazine brands. Although this may make my magazine harder to sell from the wide range they are selling already, i believe that with the right advertising and right push towards the target audience my magazine will sell very well.

My magazine also relates very heavily to the magazine Kerrang, which is owned by Bauer Publishing. Kerrang has been around for 30 years and is one of the biggest music weekly magazines, gaining over 387,000 readers since starting in 1981. The main gender that reads this magazine is male with 54.7% but it is closely followed by females will around 45.3% reading it. I believe by adding my magazine to their collection it will increase the amount of females that read magazines to its company as my magazine is mainly sold towards a female target audience, which kerrang is not, this leaves a small gap in the market for my magazine to fill.

I would not like my magazine to be self published it would be very difficult to keep the magazine running as an average of 500 new magazine are produced each year and only 1 in 3 of these titles survive for more than 4 years, meaning that it would not be as successful. Comparing it to major publishing houses, who have figured their way around the industry and how to directly aim it at the right market for my magazine to be able to take off.

Even though this will mean losing slight control of the magazine itself, they will be able to get the right advertisements within the magazine to get it noticed by many different people.

I also have not ruled out for my magazine to be distributed over the internet for example on Google Play which has limited music magazines that are available on their store which means there is a gap in the market for my magazine to placed. ITunes is also another store that would be easily accessible for my target audience as they would mainly be using smart phones such as Samsung, HTC, Sony. But they will also be using many apple products such as IPhones and IPads which will help spread the variety in which they are sold

Over all, my magazine will not just focusing on having a hard copy available from the magazine publisher but also from the internet which is vastly taking over the way people view media.
