One Thing

a book about increasing positivity and understanding mental health

If you do one thing today...

ask someone how they are feeling today You might have some friends who are unhappy and aren’t telling you about it. This might be because they are embarrased or don’t want to be the only one feeling like this. You can let them know it’s okay to be unhappy sometimes and try and make them feel better.

make others feel welcome

Some people might not be feeling their best today and might be feeling alone. You can help these people by making them feel welcome and inviting them to join in with your activities.

give a friend a hug

Often, a hug can always make people feel better. If you notice that someone isn’t very happy or isn’t feeling their best, offering them a hug is a comforting and friendly way of showing that you are there for them.

be considerate of others around you

Some people might have things going on that are upsetting them that you don’t know about. You should try your best to be aware of this, and be friendly and happy towards these people to help them feel better.

remember that everybody is different Everybody is different and everybody has different feelings. What makes one person sad might not make you sad, and what makes a person happy might not make you happy. It is important to appreciate our differences and try and help others to feel as possitive as possible.

Pssst! Remember... Doing one thing to help is always better than nothing!

One Thing

The ‘One Thing’ campaign is all about raising awareness of mental health amongst people of all ages. This book is aimed at younger generations, and is an easy and accessible way of learning about what various issues there are and how to handle them. The idea of ‘One Thing’ ensures that if we all change one thing we do already, or try one new thing, we will gradually be able to make more of a difference, be able to offer more help, and overall, reduce the stigma often associated with mental health. The more we know, the more we can help!
